A LONG WALK TO NOTHING
Episode 13&14
Eddy so tired and gloomy gets to his apartment after a long delay in traffic… on trying to fix the keys to open the door, he realises the door is open, he doesn’t get it because he’s so sure he locked it properly, he stops and steps down, he walks to the back of the apartment where his bedroom is, he sees the light is on
“No….it is the last thing I need right now Lord” he murmurs as he walks back to the door, he stops and composes himself long enough to relax his nerves….he pushes open the door slowly and steps in,side. The little living room is beautifully arranged and food served on the table…he shakes his head unbelievably as he proceeds to the bedroom, he doesn’t need to knock first so he just pushes the door slightly and there she was, lying half unclad on the bed with her backside up and one th-gh raised slightly above in a sed-ctive way…..Eddy stands rooted in one place with his right hand still holding the door knob
“Heeeyy….welcome back”
“What are you doing here….I don’t remember calling you over” Eddy by this time now moves to his wardrobe opening it but before he can pick what he sets out for, Isabel gets up and walks over to him, she hugs him tightly from behind
“You smell so nice hmmmm”
“Let me go”
“Are you still mad at me over what happened the other time?” She still holds on to him
“I asked you a question Isabel” he moves away from her and s₱0ts her dress down on the floor next to the bed, he picks it up and hands it over to her
“Edmond”
“Put it on…..and leave” he is too forward and so fuming only that he doesn’t want to show it
“You didn’t say that right” he walks away from her and sits down but she’s not moved
“OK… Seems you don’t get it….”
“It’s you who doesn’t get it Eddy, for goodness sake…….I’m here to say I’m sorry for what happened and you’re here making it so hærd for me”
“I thought you were so clear about it, you were not interested in that way and I understood but now I can see this is something else” she walks to him and tries to sit next to him but he raises his hand up to stop her, she understands the language
“Don’t touch me….I can see the devil sent you both to come destroy my family” she’s confused
“What are you talking about”
“Leave!! I’m no longer comfortable with this friendsh¡p, if possible we should not try make this h-rder for us both because you won’t like how I get” she gets up and grabs her bag
“I can see I came at a wrong time, maybe I should call first the next time good night”
“Please take the food with you too, I don’t want it” she doesn’t say anything but walks out slamming his door, he tightens his fist, he just wants to get his anger out and box someone real hærd to get all the anger out of his system

“Liam…” Alexia calls knocking on the window of the car and he rolls the mirror down immediately
“Alexia” he calls and she looks back to see if someone is looking their direction or if someone around is looking at them
“You won’t feel comfortable as long as you remain peeping through the window” he says
“Then open the damn door….I don’t want people talking”
“It’s even open, you’re are so angry that’s why it’s not opening…let me help” he opens for her from in,side and she hops in
“How are you” he says
“Bad….should I really have to say that twice or you just wanted to hear it from me face to face”
“Maybe I wanted to see your l-ips say that but Whatever… I’m here now, I’ve been calling you since morning and you couldn’t even answer…why did you skip today…you kept me waiting up for you”
“I thought I said something about that over the phone”
“Yes, that was when I called because you failed to show up”
“Should we really talk about that? I thought I said I don’t want to do it anymore”
“Oh” he says and turns to face her
“OK I want to know something, Alexia, this isn’t the first time we have met, I consider you my friend that’s why I had to push other commitments aside and agree to take up on you personally , the best you can do right now is to putdown whatever you and your husband are going through Right now and come back to do the training and oh! by the way, it’s an order”
“What a nerve”
“You can call it nerve but I’m serious, I’m so disappointed in you Alexia”
“What’s that?” She asks turning to him surprised
“I was so excited about helping you get back on shape, I was so willing to do it not because your son asked me to but because of our friendsh¡p and the thought that you really wanted to do it but I can see I was damn wrong, it was always about your husband…how stupid of me” he slaps the steering wheel making Alexia confused
“Wait! I don’t understand your point Liam”
“How would you Alexia,…look, you’re my Friend and we are still getting to know each other, I know I have no right to ask about your private life but please be honest with me, are you and your husband having issues?…it’s normal” Alexia sighs
“Liam please I don’t want to talk about it”
“Trust me, just as I trusted you yesterday…. It’s not like I told you so you may also tell me but I mean no harm…. I also don’t want to judge you because I have no right but if there is anything I can do to help, let me please help you, I hate a beautiful marriage ending especially after a long time…believe me I do” Alexia tears up and begins to cry, Liam lets her fall on his chest and let it out, until she’s calm enough, she begins to narrate to him how she met Donald, how they have been all these years and up to this point, Liam understands
“I’m not going to judge you Alexia but at this point, you need to think about only you and your children , these tears for a man who doesn’t deserve you is not worth it”
“But I love him Liam, you don’t just get it…I love Donald”
“Love Alexia, should be reciprocated, as it is of now you can’t be the only one willing to make things work….are you going to kill yourself over it”
“You just don’t understand Liam” Alexia insists and Liam gets mad
“I just don’t even want to understand right now…..you need to read between the lines…the handwriting is very clear now….read between the lines”
“Which lines”
“I’m going to tell you the truth just as it is, I’m not going to lie about it or sugarcoat it….your husband has fallen out of love with you, that’s why he’s doing what he’s doing”
“What? You must be out of your mind Liam”
“Is it not you who said he told you that?”
“But I’m sure I can make him fall back in love with me”
“There you go wrong…if he can’t fall in love with you the way you’re right now, he’s not worth anything”
“He’s the father of my children and he loves me, he says so, he has always said so”
“Now he thinks otherwise….the earlier you accept it my friend, the better”
“I can’t live without him Liam… Don’t you get it…. He’s my life” she says in frustration again
“Why can’t you….he’s not your life, you should live without him because sometimes the people we can’t live without can actually live without us…he’s a living proof of that” she breaks down more
“What didn’t I do to him?”
“Don’t ask what and why, sometimes no matter how nice you’re, how kind you’re or how caring you’re it will not just be enough for other people….if you still think you can’t live without him, then try live a little, if you can’t do it do it for yourself at least do it for your children…think of the innocent girl who has no idea what her parents are going through…. no body hides pain better than a mother who is trying to remain strong for her children….” he touches her cheek adoringly
“I know you can do it, always feel happy you know why? Because you shouldn’t expect anything from anyone, expectations hurt….create your own happiness and you will be happy too…..” She sighs once again and rubs her eyes
“you go back in there with one thing in mind that you missed today’s exercise but tomorrow you’re coming, I’m not taking no for an answer. do 10 squats and 10 pushups before bed tonight, and take a hot cup of lemon and ginger water…you’ll have plenty of time to thank me”she smiles
“You just make a bad situation lighter” he smiles and raises one finger up smiling
“What are you doing?”she asks
“Put your finger here” he responds and she does
“We are friends and by this promise me that you’ll always trust me and talk to me when things are tight” he holds on to her finger but she hugs him instead
“You’re a true Friend, I’ll surely be there… Thank you Liam”
“Take care” she opens the door and jumps out waving at him……Liam watches until when she opens the gate and walks in, he then drives off in the busy streets……Alexia opens the entrance door to her house and walks in with her hands fixed in the pocket of her large hoodie, her eyes meet with her husband who is seated on the couch watching some game, she closes the door locking it up properly then she starts her journey upstairs to her room, she can’t understand what he is doing seated here because she is sure he was on his way up when she was on phone with Liam a while ago….
“Alexia” she had just put one leg on the first step when Donald calls, she stops and turns…he furiously walks to where she’s standing and grabs her hand roughly, she let out a painful scre-m
“Donald…. You’re hurting me…what is the meaning of this” she tries to remove her hands from him but he holds on to her tightly with a greeted teeth
“What sort of a mother are you huh”
“Let go of me….you’re hurting me” she says again
“If you don’t shut up, you will force me to do worse than this….” She tears up and surrenders to him wincing in pain
“I’m so disappointed in you……how could you of all things and all people decide to involve my son in our own problem….. A problem you created”
“I did not involve Eddy in anything…. He’s a grown up and he just understood you’re now a different Father… Totally different”
“Oh shut up! Shut the shit up before I lose it completely with you, you’ll not poison my children against me because if you try it, I’ll make sure you lose them both, you hear me”
“What are you planning on doing Donald… Let go of me” he doesn’t let her go
“I know what you’re up to Alexia, and you think by using your dirty little mind you’re going to have me back well you’re wrong……I’m more than convinced that we are done” her tears run down
“Why Donald? Why do you hate me so much….have I really not been a good wife to you? Why do you hate me so much all of a sudden”
“No….no no no I don’t hate you, I just can’t live with you as my wife anymore but I’m serious about my children…. Don’t involve them but whatsoever you think you can poison Eddy’s head with, you’re just wasting your time, he’s my son and no one will take that away from me” he finally let her hand down and he runs upstairs, Alexia falls down on the steps as she cries her heavy heart out……..to be continued

Episode 14
Donald the next morning walks into his office to find Cecilia seated with crossed legs, he’s not only shocked but also mad at her for being so careless with their little fling…. Just as he’s about to reprimand her, he sees her mood isn’t at it’s best too
“I know what that face means, I’m so sorry about last night, I had hoped I would go home grab a few things and come over but there was something that was beyond my control”
“That’s not why I’m here”
“I see…. what you came for must be urgent, I was about calling you too….why didn’t you pick your calls last night, I called you countless times without number”
“Donald” she gets up and walks to him
“What is wrong?”
“Have you had a talk with Eddy?” Donald shrugs his shoulder
“I see…..pretty little dreadlocks already ran to aunt Cecilia to report me right?”
“This is not a Joke…. Did you call me after you left my house yesterday”
“Yes….just as I was telling you, I called you but you couldn’t pick up”
“Between the time you left my home yesterday and coming to the office here”
“No” he quickly answers but stops abruptly
“Wait…..between the time I left your place and came back…no”
“That is it….you see you didn’t Right?”
“Eddy was here in my office, he asked about his Mum and i….. I think Alexia had informed him about our disagreement, we had our own share of father and son disagreement and I smacked him in the face”
“What? Why the hell did you do that, you have made this more complicated”
“I don’t understand your reaction”
“You will after I tell you what happened…. Eddy already found us out”
“You’re kidding me right?”
“Would I be here this early if I was only but joking”
“You were too careless…did you have to tell your niece about us just now?” He’s mad
“Before you get mad and react like this, you should at least sit down and hear what happened”
“No Cecilia, you just couldn’t shut up, simple logic”
“Shut up Donald…. It wasn’t me it was you the careless one, how did you keep your phone next to your son”
“Wait…..”
“Yes Donald Eddy called using your phone….so I’m still the careless one”
“What did you tell him” he demands as he violently shakes her
“Let go of me” she removes herself from his grip as they both breath profusely
“I didn’t tell him anything, but I did called to sweetheart when I picked up but I got no response”
“Then how did you come to conclusion that my son picked the call”
“Because when I tried to go see Alexia later”
“Wait…..are you telling me that even after I seriously warned you against you still defied my orders and went to see her”
“She’s still my friend at the end of the day… And I was still telling you, I met no one at home, I had knocks countless times but no one answered but Eddy all of a suddenly showed up and told me to my face that he knew about our affair and warned me to stay away from his mother” she’s panicking as she speaks and Donald has to hold her
“Calm down, easy….Eddy loves his mother too much and I don’t think he will want to hurt her the more by telling her about this”
“But we can’t be so sure about that”
“I know and that’s why I’m going to talk to him, I have to have a man to man talk with him…so chill” he k-sses her forehead and asks her to relax
“Why don’t you just relax your head, we will do lunch together today” she nods and he crosses to go sit down, there is a slight silence
“Cecilia” he calls her and she responds
“Can I ask you something”
“Anything”
“OK…has Alexia mentioned something to you about a friend of hers, perhaps a new friend and all that”
“Why the question”
“It’s nothing…. I’m just curious” he remembers her talking on phone when he got home last evening and staying out for a while, he didn’t hear much to determine if the person she was talking to on phone was male or female but he could tell the person was close by home so he lets the question stay as it is, Cecilia decides to also excuse herself to go because she has a photoshoot coming up on the next one hour bit she will be back to have lunch with him.

“Look who we have here…Ale”
“Good morning Liam… Can I talk to you” Alexia is straight forward to the point
“Then come with me to the office” despite the fact that Liam is all smiling and happy to see Alexia around, she’s not smiling back, they get to the office and he opens it
“I don’t know if it’s just me but don’t you think this attitude is really uncalled for?” Liam asks as he sits down and Alexia sits down to, she puts her hands on the table as she’s ready to talk but Liam jumps to his feet real quick
“What?” She asks
“Wait….” He comes and take her hand looking at the bruises that look red and painful
“Don’t tell me you had this when we met last night?” She doesn’t answer
“I’m talking to you Alexia”
“No…..I tripped in the kitchen this morning”
“Liar….this doesn’t look fresh…. Are you lying to me?” He asks concerned and now at this point, she doesn’t like his eyes to meet hers
“Did he do this?” She still doesn’t answer
“I’m talking to you Ale”
“I provoked him”
“That’s nonsense… Does it have anything to do with you coming out of the house last night by that time”
“No”
“Don’t lie to me….does it”
“No….it was because of Eddy but please, I don’t want to talk about it” Liam sighs and goes back to sit on his chair
“We are friends aren’t we” he asks and she nods
“Trust me….and tell me what is going on”
“Eddy had gone to speak with Donald after I told him about his father moving out of our room….”
“Wa wa wa waaaaait!……”
“Oh! I didn’t tell you… And yes Donald left our room saying he wants space, he doesn’t want to live under the same roof with me”
“That’s nonsense…. What is wrong with that man, what does he take you for”
“Well I don’t know…. He has never been like that”
“What difference does it make, you’re his children’s mother for goodness sake and he has no right treating you like that” she smiles
“That doesn’t count right”
“You can’t say that Alexia”
“So I told Eddy, he confronted his Father and Donald got mad at me that’s what happened”
“And he then decided to hurt you this way, does he even notice it”
“It’s nothing, i realised Eddy out of anger might has said something that angered him”
“Even so, he had no right to do this to you…you’re a woman, if he wants to go fight, he can do it with fellow men out there” there is another silence but one can tell Liam is still not satisfied with the talk, he remembers Richærd telling him just the other day that Donald is seeing another woman, he knows this has everything to do with it so he asks her
“Alexia…. Do you think your husbands latest behavior has anything to do with another woman in the picture? Does it mean he’s with another woman?”
“Where is that coming from…..No no no..Donald might be an assh-le right now but another woman Nay….that’s not him”
“Easy….take it easy” he takes her hands into his and looks at her
“Do you trust me?” He asks and smiles, she looks puzzled bit doesn’t say a word
“Alexia….do you trust me and consider me as your friend?” He asks again she nods.
“You’re my friend Liam”
“Then listen to me, like Bruno Mars says, if you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, I’ll sail the world to find you, if you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can’t see, I’ll be the light to guide you…….you can count on me like one two three I’ll be there and I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two, you’ll be there because that’s what friends are supposed to do”
“Ooh!”
“Can I count on you? Always”
“You don’t have to say it twice” she rubs his hands too smiling……
