We arrived at school, I stepped out of car ,walking towards the school building.

I was thinking about my life ,when Lucas voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

I stood still starring at him for a while, Lucas you know it’s too early to kill me laugh.

Hmm, Suzette !

He called my name, I turned to answer him ,I was surprised when he held my hand to his.

What are you doing Lucas ? I asked him felling a little bit nervous.
Just keep calm okay, at least I haven’t k-ssed you yet.

What are you talking about? Kim asked us walking faster to meet up with us.

Can’t you see that our complexion matches”. Lucas scoffed turning to Kimberly.

“Kim, just look at me and Suzette, don’t we look like a perfect couple!”.

Kimberly nodded slowly putting on a big smile. “Sure. Just pray your relationsh¡p will last.

I immediately yanked Lucas hand away from mine as Lucas laughed running off.

I smiled amused by everything because I knew he was just joking.

I glanced at Kimberly and saw something like water in her eyes.

Wait. Are those tears?

“Tell Lucas I’ve gone to class”. She muttered inaudibly before walking off.

I watch her with a confused expression on my face as she left looking dull all of a sudden.

What just happened?

“Hey!”. Lucas came back breathing heavily having ran around.

“Where’s Kim?”.

“She just left, she said I should tell you that she’s going to class”. I replied him pointing in the direction she left.

“Oh”. He frowned. “But I told her to wait for me. We were supposed to go to class together”.

Then almost immediately, the school bell rang signaling first period.

“Maybe she wanted to get to class before the bell”. I suggested but I knew that wasn’t the reason.

“Its true o. I forgot. We have English first period”. Lucas gasped. “I better start running before she gets there”.

I look at him confused. “Whats there if we have her first period?”.

I glanced at Lucas. ”

His parents are rich But he doesn’t act like someone whose parents are that wealthy.

“Miss Bella”.

I look forward to see Lucas already in the class as he prostrated in front of her.

I chuckle to myself.

This boy is really a jovial person.

“Good morning, ma”. I greeted politely as I stepped into the class.

Miss Bella nodded. “Head on to your seat”.

“What?”. Lucas fake gasped. “You just let her in like that?, if it was me, I’m sure you won’t do that”.

“Lucas, please go and sit.

I headed to my seat noticing that it was empty.

Which means Kingsley is not in school.

Which means Kingsley is not coming to school today.

I got to my seat and sat down placing my bag on the chair.

I glanced back and noticed Trevor staring at me. He quickly looked away as our eyes met. .

A small smile came on my l-ips as I turn forward.

“So class, I’m very tired and I won’t be teaching you today”. Miss Bella said and the class began jubilating.

“But .. “. She continued. ”

Hey thank God, Pearl shouted.

“Will you people let her finish?”. Kimberly lashed out on them. “Let her talk!! We all know you are happy with this news but try not to make it obvious, will you? And try having some sense too!”.

Silence ensued as Pearl frowned at her keeping quiet.

Kimberly ignored her expression and faced forward.

It was really obvious that she was angry.

But why?

“Thank you, Kimberly for helping me get this class quiet. So as I was saying, you all will work in groups of two and I’ll give each a group a topic to work on and it will be submitted I hope I am crystal clear?”.

“Yes, ma”. Everyone chorused.

“So your partner is your seat mate”. She concluded.

And then chatter rose, some were happy and some were not too happy with the arrangement.

“Well except Kimberly and Lucas”. Miss Bella continued.

The two of you will be working together..

“But ma, I’m okay working with Betty”.

“Well you won’t work with her. Betty will have to partner with Noah so that Kim can partner with you. Understood?”.

I notice a small smile linger on Betty’s face as she was obviously pleased with her new partner.

But not Kim.

“Miss Bella, I don’t want to work with Lucas. You just said, work with your seat partner, why are you changing your words ?”.

“Why ?”. Lucas spoke up. “Why don’t you want to work with me?”.

Miss Bella folded her arms. “If you can answer that question with a tangible reason then you can work with someone else”.

“Ugh!!!”. Kimberly gro-ned. “I don’t have an answer”.

“Then you are going to work with him, no more arguing”.

“If she wants another partner, then she can have another partner, its fine”. Lucas said with a hint of anger in his voice.

I raise my hand up wanting to ask a question.

“Yes? Trevor ?”.

I look back to see Trevor s hand was also up.

“I don’t have a partner!”. He said a little quietly.

“, Trevor, I’ll find a partner for you”. Miss Bella said before turning to me. “Suzette? You wanted to ask something? Your hand was up?”.

“Kingsley isn’t in school”. I told her.

Amber rolled her eyes scoffing. “Isn’t that obvious?”.

“Will you shut up or I’ll walk you out of this class?”.

“Sorry, ma”.

Miss Bella turned back to me. “I will give you his phone number so you can inform him about the of you upcoming project “.

“Or I can partner with Trevor?”. I ask suggesting.

“You want to work with him?”. She asked and then turned to him.

“Trevor! Are you okay with that?”.

“Yes, ma”. He replied not even looking at me.

“So Suzette, you and Trevor are partners? But what about Kingsley?”.

Pearl raised her hand. “I can be his partner!”.

“You already have a partner, pearl. I don’t want to see your hand up again”.

Miss’s why don’t we pair ,Suzette, Trevor and Kingsley in one group.

“That’s a great idea”. Miss Bella nodded. “Okay so, I’ve decided. Kingsley will partner with Trevor and Suzette”.

What?

“What?”. Trevor voiced out. “I thought its just Suzette and I. He’s supposed to be in Amber’s group”.

“Well he’s in your group now”. Miss Bella said. “And I’m sure you know how to contact him, right!”.

No response.

“Trevor? You know how to contact Kingsley, right?”.

“Yes, ma”.

“Good! So you, Kingsley and Suzette are in Group twenty”.
