If a hungry lion suddenly appeared, you’d be terrified. So terrified you’d probably run away. Great, fear is doing its job. But you might get so afraid that you lock up and can’t move. This would be very bad. Guilt is the same. It can prevent you from fixing the situation, make you feel so bad you can’t function at one hundred percent and even lead to more guilt-provoking bad behavior. Cynthia found herself in that position before she kicked the bucket. She followed the wrong path of life which ended her life anon.

She laid lifeless in her own pool of blood at the door of Mr Ejaka. Her death came like a surprise to all who stood in the living room, mourning silently. Even if she was bad to all, she was a human being so dear to Geb. Therefore, the old man bent down, picked the book found in Cynthia’s hand before her death. He glanced through the pages and shook his head.

“She needed the book to carry out power incantations with the ribbon.” He glanced back at Raina and Mr. and Mrs. Ejaka who has started shedding tears. “This simply means one thing; she was on her way to wherever the ribbon is.” the old man added.

“How can we know the place now?” Raina asked.

Immediately, a ringing cell phone came from Cynthia’s pocket. Raina rushed her, searched her to see the phone. When she saw the caller, she showed it to Geb who narrowed his vision to see the name ‘Jerry’. Ejaka stretched his neck to see the caller too.

I think I know who the person is. Cynthia had brought him here sometime ago.” he said.

Raina picked the call and put it on speaker.

“Babe, I’m still waiting. Just parked our luggage. Where are you?” Jerry asked on the phone.

“Come at my place, my father wants to see you.” Raina mimicked Cynthia’s voice immediately.

“But I thought you…” she hung up the call on him then silence trailed again. Only then did Geb remembered there was a dead body of his grandchild on the floor. So he stared at her bitterly saying, “I’m so sorry, Cynthia. All your bad behavior was really a request for love, attention, or validation which you never got from me. Maybe our decision led you to this cruel path of the world. Please, forgive me, please for..” he broke down in tears.

Raina held him sympathetically, leading him back to the cushion. The husband and wife of the house also sat down in shock.

“No doubt, those who she mingled with, killed her.” Ejaka broke the silence.

The wife crying voice trailed. “I warned Cynthia but she wouldn’t listen! She was so stubborn!! Now look at the outcome?!” she lamented.

Within some time, a knock came from the door. The man of the house rushed it, he opened it and dragged Jerry in then locked the door. The young boy saw the lifeless body of his girlfriend on the floor then wished he was having a nightmare. Before he could react, Ejaka had grabbed him, hit him on the wall.

“So you’ve been leading my daughter astray all this while!! Huh?!!” he nearly gave him a powerful punch if not interrupted by Geb’s voice.

“Ejaka!” he had called.

The man glared at Jerry, breathing hastily. Slowly, he released him while the boy rushed his girlfriend with a heavy heart. He wept internally, sniffed in and stood up, turning to the family. “Who did this to her?” he asked.

Raina stood up. “She came, while leaving, she was shot at the door.” she replied.

“I think I know who did it.”

“Deyo?” Raina took a step forward.

“How did you know him.”

“My last name is Nelson. Does that ring a bell?”

Jerry exhaled and swallowed hard. “Cynthia explained why she couldn’t kill you. Go thank Emmanuel, whosoever that motherfucker is.”

Raina’s voice gradually grew mean and high. As she was speaking, her steps drew closer to the young fine boy. “Deyo killed my father, he made an attempt to kill me. Now he has killed Cynthia, your girlfriend. That man has taken something very precious from us. It’s time to bring him down together.” she stepped at a very close range with Jerry, staring up into his eyes while silence and tension returned to the room.

“Please, no type of killing should be planned under my roof. I have had enough for today and for many years.” Ejaka broke the silence.

Geb stood up. “Young man” he called. “Is Cynthia’s bag at your place?” he asked.

“Yes.” Jerry replied.

“There’s something really precious she came back to Kenema with. I guess it must be inside her bag. Please, let Raina follow you to get it while we take care of my granddaughter’s body.”

Jerry nodded. He led the way while Raina followed briskly…..

However, at Adams, Margret seated on her bed with her two friends. All looked bored and sad regardless how beautiful they all seemed in the eyes of the beholder. They were not yet in their prime, but their bodies seemed to have reached there before them. Margret folded her arms as she listened to her friends.

Rose was always negative and arrogant. Her voice and choice of words tells it all. “The wood chopper deserves what he got. Can you imagine he killed Lucy!!! Gush! And Margret, you knew all this but you kept it from us! You were eating and dining with a devil, yet you did nothing about it! You’re pathetic!!”

Alice was just speechless, folding her hands too as Rose continued, “What actually did that boy give you? Why can’t you just let him go!? Is his dick so sweet that you wish to carry it around in your pussy?!”

“Rose, Crucifix is the only man I’ve known!” Margret found her voice.

“Fuck only man! Fuck your loss virginity! And fuck that mouth in which you used to say that! Crucifix murdered our friend for goodness sake!”

Margret hurried down from the bed as she said, “He did that because of me!!”

“Oh!” Rose also stepped down from the bed to attack her the more as both glared. “Crucifix killed Lucy because of you? So you’re indirectly involved too? Why did both of you kill her?”

“I did not kill Lucy, Rose!”

“Okay, Crucifix did it for you. Why?”

I don’t know but I have a feeling there’s a greater reason he did that!”

Rose raised a hand and slapped her. The sound brought tension inside the room, so Alice had to hurry down from the bed to calm the situation. But before she did, Rose angrily pointed a finger at Margret saying, “You’re very very stupid, Margret!! I’m out of here!” she hurried towards the door. Before she got there, Alice had run to block her.

“You’re going nowhere, Rose.” she said.

Meanwhile, Margret nurtured the pains of the slap with tears that had circulated her eyes. She just couldn’t believe it! Rose, laying hands on her?! Oh, she was so shocked. Though, she had the audacity to return the slap but didn’t know why she grew cold on her. Nevertheless, as Rose battled with Alice at the door, Margret’s broken voice came bitterly. “Rose, you slapped me because you think I’m stupid! You do not know the gravity of things, how delicate this issue is! There are more family stuff that you do not know! Crucifix loves me, no doubt, but…”

Rose turned aggressively. “That’s where you’re insane, Margret!” she interrupted.

“Allow me to speak, Rose!”

“You have nothing to say, Margret! Someone took a life for you and you call it love!?”

“That’s my point! It’s greater than love and I do not know what it is!”

“That’s my point too! You’re stupid for not knowing what it is! He is your boyfriend, isn’t he? You need to let that boy go.”

Alice interfered immediately, “They are separated already. Crucifix will be behind bars for ten years. There’s no way Margret can date a prisoner, isn’t that right, Margret?” she asked.

Margret didn’t reply that, rather went back to her bed, sniffing in tears and drying her tears..

Raina stepped into Jerry’s room to see it unkept. At the corner of the bed, she saw a female pant and bra then glanced at Jerry who read the meaning of that glance. So he quickly said, “Those were Cynthia’s.” he quickly took them away.

Raina ignored him, bent down before two black traveling bags. She carried one away and zipped the other one opened as Jerry stared at her.

“What exactly are you people looking for and how did you know that’s Cynthia’s bag?”

Raina responded without looking at him as her hands shuffled clothes out of the bad. “I know it’s hers because I have seen her with it before.” she looked up at Jerry. “At the airport.” she added and continued searching. She turned the bag upside down yet, they was no resemblance of any ribbon. Quickly, she grabbed Jerry’s bag.

“Take it easy, young girl. That’s my bag. There’s nothing in there.” he complained.

Raina ignored him again until she turned his bag upside down too, yet no ribbon. She searched the room, the kitchen and bathroom, yet, no ribbon. She exhaled.

“Well?” Jerry spread his hands.

“Can’t find anything.” she placed a hand on her waist still roaming her eyes. “How do we take Deyo down?” she asked.

“It isn’t gonna be easy. We need a plan.” Jerry began….

On a hoodie, Jerry matched into a warehouse to see Deyo; a huge muscular man with bears. He wore a black suit to look like a boss he was. Cartons of different sizes could be seen on top of another with young men carrying some out.

“Hey, boss!” Jerry bounced in.

Deyo turned. “Jerry, where have you been?”

“I actually came to see if Cynthia is back because I have a surprise for you.” he stopped before the man who gave him his full attention.

“What surprise?” he asked.

Jerry whispered into his ear. Quickly, the man rounded up, gave the last order and followed Jerry. His guards wanted to follow him but he prevented them. He drove alone with Jerry until they arrived to another lonely warehouse which Deyo was familiar with. When they stepped inside, Deyo saw Raina tied down on a chair with her mouth tied closed too.

“That’s Raina Nelson. I caught her in town.” Jerry boasted. “Have you heard from Cynthia because she has not been picking my call?”

The man shrugged and looked at Raina again. “Young, girl, your father was as stupid as you are.” he began while Jerry walked behind him, brought out a gun and said, “You’re the one stupid, Deyo.”

The man turned to see the gun seriously aimed at him. “Jerry, you gonna regret this.” he said.

“You killed Cynthia and you’re telling me I’m gonna regret this?!” The boy pulled the trigger twice on his two legs. Deyo screamed and fell on the floor. Meanwhile, Raina had stopped pretending, she untied herself and collected the gun from the boy.

“My father may have been stupid, but I’m not. I came all the way to this place to do this by myself.” she aimed the gun at the man’s stomach but her hands quivered. Jerry noticed it, so he gently held the particular hand like a teacher holding a child’s hand to correctly put down an alphabet on a book while he crossed the other hand on her shoulder. In her ear he whispered, “Pull the trigger slow and steady.”

As directed, the girl pulled the trigger and was shocked at the sound of the gun she fired on Deyo’s stomach.

“Again. Now, on the head” Jerry whispered for the second time.

Raina raised the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. For the second time, she startled at the sound of her own gunshot. Deyo died then she looked up beside her, staring at Jerry whose hands had not departed from her body. The tragic scenario turned to a romantic scene.

Both returned to Jerry’s house where they sat down quietly on the bed, turning their backs on each other.

“When are you going back to your place?” Jerry broke the silence as both never turned to look at each other.

“Immediately.” Raina replied.

“Okay.”

Silence returned again. Raina stood up. “I’m sorry about Cynthia.” She walked towards the door to see Jerry standing and opening it for her as both stared at each other. “You know, you can come over to join my father’s business. Just that ever since he was bursted, all his properties has been ceased by government. So we’re currently looking for a location to start cooking.” Raina added.

“You run your father’s product now?” Jerry was surprise.

“Looking down on me?”

He smiled. “Is your mother aware?”

“No”

“I think I know a place we can start cooking over there.”

“Then I’ll be anticipating to see you.” Raina smiled and walked out….

The stars in the sky, on their glory beautified the sky, shining so bright like the half moon they surrounded. Meanwhile, Geb and Raina had just returned from Kenema when the twinkle stars sarted twinkling. Both could be seen on the living room, sitting sadly and exhaustively. Obviously, they didn’t come back with the ribbon.

“Where could Cynthia keep the ribbon?” Geb asked rhetorically.

“I searched everywhere.” Raina wondered.

Both exhaled at the same time. “May be Cynthia wants to take her twin brother with her. She wants to fulfil her destiny by destroying her brother.” Geb shook his head.

“You’re not letting Crucifix down. You won’t allow him to die, will you?” Raina sat up.

“It’s very clear, Raina. Crucifix may not make it. It’s clear that he won’t marry Margret.” the old man hissed and placed a hand on his forehead.

Raina picked her phone and dialed Emmanuel’s number. “Hey, we just returned and we didn’t see the ribbon.” she said on the phone.

“That’s a very big problem.” Emmanuel replied.

“How close were you with Cynthia?”

“Were?”

“Cynthia is dead.”

“What?!”

Silence creeped in between them on the phone until Emmanuel spoke up sadly, “We were very close.”

“How close?”

“Intimacy close.”

Raina paused before she said, “What did you tell her that made her change her mind from killing me?”

“She wanted to kill you too?” Emmanuel exhaled. “I didn’t tell her anything. I only told her how Crucifix is better off.”

“Bye.” Raina hung up the call.

The next day, Margaret visited Crucifix in jail. In the visiting room were many round tables with prisoners and their visitors. On her jumpsuit, she placed her purse on the table and crossed her legs as she waited for Crucifix. Suddenly, she sighted him coming inside the room. Both eyes caught. Crucifix slowly sat down opposite her with bruises on his face and hands. Seeing that, Margret released her legs and exhaled. She swallowed hard as both stared at each other. All of a sudden, her legs began to quiver nervously. She tried to control it but she couldn’t because she couldn’t believe what she was about to do.

“Ease yoursey, Margret.” Crucifix began. “I’ve read your mind already. It’s fine. I understand why you want a breakup.”

Margret finally released the tears that she tried to hold. “I’m sorry, Crucifix. But before I go, tell me that which you’re holding back from me. Please, I beg you!”

Crucifix stood up. “I’m sorry, Margret.” he began to walk out of the room.

Margret stood up with the tears and said very loud and clear, “Crucifix, if you do not tell me, this would be the last time you’ll set your eyes on me!”

The boy turned. “I already know. Good luck, baby girl.” he finally walked out as Margret watched as he was being excurted back to his cell by a prison warden until he went out of sight. The poor girl left the premises for good and never returned….
