She touched the doorknob and pushed it weakly,the door wasn’t locked so it slid open and she took a peek into it hoping to see someone in the room but no one was insight.
Could it be that he had left without her out of annoyance?
No,that isn’t true. If he’s gone the door would be locked.
So where’s he now?
She gulped h-rder this time and with another short prayer,took slow steady strides into the room but stopped Midway as she heard the dripping sound from the shower, just then Hale emerged from the bathroom with a white towel around his wa-ist,he was about taking a shower when he heard the door creak open.
“G-Good morning…..” She stammered, taking a step backwards as she notice the furious look on his face.
“Where are you coming from?” Hale inquired shoving his fingers into his black curls which fell over his forehead.
Eve rubbed her palms and gulped again.
How is she going to tell him that she spent the night in another man’s room, he’s going to kill her for good even though nothing happened between them.
A lie hovered in her mouth and she spat it out.” N-No where…” She lied and Hale knew it.
“You’re lying to me” he raised a brow and took just two steps towards while she backed up couples of steps.
“I_ I swear I’m not lying..” she said jerkily.
“Eve where are you coming from, I won’t ask you again..” he thundered and she flinched.
“I didn’t go anywhere..”she quiped.
“Enough Eve,I saw you go into that room who’s lodging there?” He persisted stubbornly.
“I_I don’t know what you’re talking about..”
He shot her an angry stare and increased his pace.
“Okay okay I’ll talk. I’ll talk…” Eve muttered as she felt her back touch the door.
“Go ahead,you got my ears… He beckoned.
“I_ i_was just scared and desperate, I didn’t know what to do so I ran into his room but at first I didn’t know the lodger was a man…” She explained,her body quivering with fear.
“So what happened.?”
“Nothing….”she replied and he gave her a sharp look.
“You’re judging me,you think something happened..”
“I’m not judging you but go ahead and tell me what happened..”
“Nothing happened..”
“You’re lying to me…”
“I’m not, I swear nothing happened. He wasn’t even in the room with me.”
“So you’d rather stay in another man’s room than to be with your own husband?”he questioned and she bowed lightly.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know what to do.” She uttered and he hissed,then turned and walked away but stopped and turn back to her. She bit her l-ips, silently praying that he doesn’t do anything to her.
“Are you just going to stand there or will you get unclad and Join me in the bathroom. We’re running late..” he questioned, then turned again and began to take strides heading to the bathroom but she didn’t budge.
“Uhmm, I’ll just wait till you’re done..”
Eve whinned and he stopped at his track and turned to her again.
“Did you say you’ll wait till I’m done?..” he raised an eyebrow.
“Yes I’ll just wait,go ahead and have your shower…” She replied feigning a smile.
He raised an eyebrow.”Why will you wait?”
“This is no big deal Hale, let’s shower in turns…” She shove a hand in her hair and moved them back.
“No I want you to bathe with me, you’re my wife…” He insisted but she persisted.
“I know but….”
“Enough of that play bitch, now get your ski-ny ass into the bathroom….” He barked out crudely, cutting her off..
“Hale….”she called, trying to make him keep his cool.
“Are you stupid?, didn’t you hear me? I said get into the bathroom”.. he ratted angrily.
“Okay,okay. I’ll do just as you say.”
“Better do…”Hale muttered under his breath as the lady drew close to the bed and began to strip herself.
“Very childish..”
He rolled his eyes as he notice moisture trickling down her cheeks,but she ignored him and dropped her nightshirt on the bed then walked past him, into the bathroom unclad.
Wiping off her tears with the back of her hand, Eve stretched her hand to the shower and turned it on.
She brush her hair backwards with her hands as the cold water from the shower ran down her unclad body,then so many thoughts found their way into her mind.
What kind of a man is he?
Is this how he’ll be ordering her around,when she gets to his house?
Why is he being so rude to her?
If he doesn’t like her,why then did he accept to marry her and rather push her around?
She jerked out of her thoughts as she felt firm hands on her wa-ist..
“Please….”Eve crooked as she turned and saw Hale standing unclad before her. She knew what was going to happen next.
“Don’t say a word…”
He said quietly, reaching for her, touching her cheek, moving his fingers to her neck,her shoulder.
He wanted to hold her,run his tongue over her l-ips.
“But….” She tried to hesitate but stopped as he glared at her…
“What is this, you’re playing hærd to get now,when I already had you few days ago..” he queried and she bit her l-ips,as if to hold in the tears that were already oozing out of her eyes.
“Please I’m not ready…”she murmured the words that seemed stucked in her throat.
“Look you’re my wife now,I own you. So I can do anything I want with you, anytime, anywhere and you have no right to hesitate. It doesn’t matter if you’re ready or not, your opinion doesn’t count. We clear.?”” He contoured and she nodded jerkily in agreement.
“Good…” he mumbled then lift her face to his..

Her breath hitched as soon as his mouth met hers.
This was no sweet k-ss,his hands were in her hair, lifting her head to his,his mouth opening to draw in her toungue. Urgent. Needful.
Eve hands couldn’t touch anything but his shoulder in this position,which was no good at all to him so he picked her up and made her wrap her legs tightly around his wa-ist, not taking his mouth from her,his hands never stopping. “Am I supposed to answer that,cause your face looks like you want to keep on talking?” He queried and Eve batt her damp lashes.
“It’s just a question…”
“Well, I don’t love you and we both know the reason we’re together. So let’s keep it like that. Don’t push it…” He said dryly but to hurt.
“But you sleep with me?”
“That’s another benefit of getting married to you,so get use to it cause very soon it won’t be something new…”
“Our time is coming..” she whimpered.
“And I’m waiting for it ..”He replied with a scoff,then hastened to add. “Come on let’s shower, we’re running late..”

At about 9 a.m,they were at the reception to hand in the card to their room.
“Ok,have a nice day..” the receptionist offered as she took the card from Hale.
“Thanks..” he replied without even taking a look at her,but took Eve’s right hand in his left hand and walked to the door which was already pulled open by a guard.
They had hærdly walked out of the hotel threshold when their limoseen pulled in.
“Good morning Sir, Good morning Madam, how was your night?” Came the respective duteous voice of the driver.
They both turned their face to him and nodded without uttering any word,so he alighted alertly and pulled open the back door for them to get in.
Eve took comfort of being chauffeur driven and dozed off immediately the car screeched out of the hotel’s gate.
She had been anxious most of the night and did not sleep well.
Whether the drive to the airport was a fluid one or not,she didn’t notice because of her deep nap in the forty minutes trip to where the international airport is.
She only became awake with a tap and call by Hale,when the limoseen had pulled into the departure parking lot.
“Wake up sleepy head, we’re here…”He called hoarsely amid tapping her roughly, Eve eyelashes flew open,then she stretched and yawned.
“It’s still morning,yet you’re sleeping like this..” he said hoarsely,then pulled out a handkerchief from his left slant pocket and handed it over to her.
“Thank you..” she murmured as she dabbed her face which despite that cold morning air was smeared with profuse droplet of sweat cascading from her forehead and temple.However they alighted and the driver got their cases from the trunk and let them into the departure lounge and soon all departure schedule announcement came alive.
All departure modalities were done by the airport officials and soon they were onboard.
“Wow this is amazing…..”
Eve gasped gazing through the window as the plain soared high, everything became smaller to her,houses looked more like boxes but it was really a nice scenerio to watch it made her forget her
present predicaments, even the pouring river and seas and also the beautiful-lush-veget­­­­­ation, undulating and intriguing landscape as it Swiftly ran past was another intriguing sight to her.
But she was withdrawned from the nice view by a nudge from Hale,she turned and saw a hostess in front of her.
“Uhmm…” Eve gulped nothing in particular as she stared up at her,she held a clipboard and fountain pen,her name tag read ” Alison” and a finick smile dangled at the corner of her l-ips..
“The hostess have been asking for your order” Hale pointed out.
“Oh, I’m sorry”
She mumbled adjusting the seatbelt which was around her wa-ist.
“Okay what can I offer you?”
The hostess said and she shook her head quickly.
“Nothing” she replied airily and turned her gaze back to the window.
“Nothing?” Hale quiped with an eyebrow raised.
“Yes nothing. I’m fine.”
Eve affirmed,not taking her eyes from the window.
“Okay, that’s fine” the hostess replied and moved to the next person,who sat behind them.
The rest of the journey was a short but fluid one. Airborne they were in Sacramento, California in less than no distant time, barely forty minutes.
Outside the airport, Hale led Eve into a Hummer Limo which was already in wait at the parking lot and from the intEr×¢tion between Hale and the man on the wheels, Eve figured the car belonged to Hale and the man on wheel was his driver.
“Is this your house?” She asked as the driver pulled into a Mansion.
The drive to the place was a short one.
“As you can see?” He shrugged.
“It’s nice….”she acknowledged wryly amid staring around the magnificent building.
“Thanks….” He replied nonchalantly as the driver pulled into the garage.
They alighted in silence,with no one willing to say a word to each other as they made their way into the building.

Hale walked into the living room and Eve couldn’t help but stare round the house in awe as she trailed behind him clutching their cases..
“Baby girl,daddy is back….”Hale called out stopping on his track, in front of the stairs.
“Huh?”
Eve wriggled her brows as a slim brunnet haired lady in a flimsy gown emerged from the top of the stairs.
“Oh my gosh…..”The brunnet scre-med elated,then raced down the stairs and jumped into the waiting arms of Hale.
“How are you?” Hale asked as they embraced.
“I’m fine, it’s been a while ..” she replied,still intertwined with him.
“Did you miss me..?”He said, then unembraced and k-ssed her on the l-ips.
“Oh baby I miss you so much,this house was really boring without you. Three days without you is like a century..”she teased and returned the k-ss deeply..
“And a day without you,is like forever…”
He teased back amid k-sses..
“You’re flattering me..” she gigled, unlocking from the k-ss.
“Am I?” He smiled.
Eve eyes grew wide as she kept staring at the two lovers, anyone would have hit her with a trucheon and she wouldn’t have reacted out of pure shock.

Eve moved a hand to her chest,as if to quiten a shocked heart,then she shut her eyes tightly, praying that what she witnessed should be a mirage, willing her to go away. She became dizzy as the air supplies to her lungs seemed to have been cut off. Wearily,she stretched out her free hand for support but non was forthcoming. The last thing she could remember was a hand forcing out the cases from her firm grip. She passed out as soon as she hit the floor.

She regained consciousness to find herself in one of the rooms in the Mansion.
She opened her eyes gradually,with another short prayer,willing the nightmare to go away. But when she finnaly opened them,there she was still wearing the same dress she had on earlier when she first saw her.
“Welcome back Eve. I’m happy you’re awake..”
Ashley said smiling down at her.
“Where’s Hale?” Eve forced a smile, ignoring the strange lady pleasantry.
Who is she?
Isn’t she the same lady she saw Hale snogging earlier with?
What is she doing here then.
Is she a friend,enemy or a frenemy?
She slammed her eyes tightly and opened them slowly praying that everything she saw earlier should be a dream.
“He went out,but he should be back by now. I don’t know what is keeping him,why did you ask..?”
Ashley replied nonchalantly as Eve helped herself to a sitting position.
“I had a bad dream, it’s about you and my husband..” she expounded with a wince..
“Oh,go ahead and tell me about it..” Ashley beckoned.
“In that dream it seemed you both were seeing each other,he k-ssed you right in front of me. God it looked so real. I pray I don’t dream such dreams again..” She gibbered,then ran her fingers through her untidy hair, her gaze on Ashley..
“you’re funny. Are you sure you had a dream?…”Ashley chuckle as she understood the reason for Eve’s trauma.
“Please tell me it was all a dream,tell me I didn’t see you k-ss him. Tell me you two are not together,tell me I’ve been dreaming”
Eve pleaded, slipping into an edge of hysteria.
“Don’t crack me up please….” Ashley slapped the air with her left hand, showing off her perfectly manicured nails.
“Crack you up?, I don’t understand you,do I look like a stand up comedian to you ?”Eve flustered, wondering the reason for the lady’s reaction.
She creased her brows.”Yes you do,infact you look worst than that. Damn you’re realy funny,wait so you think he is really your husband,are you kidding me? I thought this marriage was just one big set-up. Is there a reason for you to have an air of emotion towards your partner?”she stared at Eve through the corners of her eyes. Eve to her was a perfect archtype of blonde beauty,she was made too perfect by the creator that she didn’t bother to cudgel her brain for words to describe her. The most impressive of her finely cut features was perhaps her tappered physique,no less could be said of her well arranged dentine set, which immaculate nature with the snow was no compare. Or her smiles which were the kind that would take any Man a prisoner of morality and conscience,or merhap her doe blue eyes,the kinds that God gives to every beautiful woman. A hiss escaped Ashley’s l-ips as her eyes strolled down those flawless thighs. She was dangerously beautiful.
“What do you mean by that?we’re married,so who are you?” Eve countered and got up from the bed,she had been sitting on.
Ashley raised an eyebrow. “Are you really asking me that question? didn’t he tell you about me when you first met?”
“No,he didn’t..” Eve retorted her question.
“He did speak about me,you were just too stupid to realize he had a fiancée..” she chided, tauntingly.
“Huh..” Eve pursed her full pink l-ips as she tried to remember..
“Look,he might be screwing you already and I don’t give a hoot about that but let’s make something clear. Hale is my fiancé and I’m wearing his ring….”she waved and Eve made a wince as her eyes noticed the diamond ring on her finger, Ashley was satisfied so she went on.”We were about to be married when you suddenly popped out from nowhere and open up for him so don’t make me regret this decision I made because of the love we share.”
“Wait a minute…”Eve cut in realization dawning on her….”you mean…?’
“I mean every word I have said, however this is your room. Welcome to the family,I hope you enjoy your stay here.”
With a dour smile dangling around the corner of her l-ips,she arranged the drape of her dress and let herself out of the room leaving the bewildered lady gapping after her in total disbelief.
Ashley sauntered down the stairs and into the living room hissing continuously,what nonsense?
what madness was that bitch trying to display?

Ashley rolled her eyes and plunged into a sofa and glance at her phone, just then Hale walked in through the door and a gentle smile played on her crest fallen face.
“Babe…” Hale called as he walked up to her.
“Welcome hunny….” Answered the lady as he pecked her on her cheek amid sitting by her side.
“There’s no need asking how you’re doing cause you’re looking beautiful as always. I’m really doing a good job, it’s really showing on you..” Hale said teasingly and her face hit up.
“Awwn..thank you but why did you take so long?” She said feigning a frown.
“I’m sorry love,I went Into a terrible traffic..”. He explained, tugging on her sleek black hair.
“Alright,you look tired. Should I prepare you a bathe?” She asked looking him over.
“Baby that’s not what I want right now..”He shrugged.
“Okay what do you want?”she asked staring at the bright screen of her phone.
“Food,I’m famished. Infact I am extremely famished. What’s there for lunch?” Hale sniffed.
“There’s no food…” Ashley said operating her phone while replying to Him.
“What,no food…?” He frowned.
“Yes..”Ashley replied with an affirmative nod.
“You didn’t cook.?” Hale queried still frowning.
“Yes I didn’t….” She affirmed.
He raised a brow. Why? Didn’t I keep enough money for food?”
“Babe you did and I bought everything i needed but I just couldn’t cook, I just did my nails and I didn’t want to ruin them, so I didn’t cook. ” She explained in a pathetic voice.
“I think it’s high time I get a maid..” Hale wriggled his brows.
“Why?”she narrowed her eyes at him.
“To assist you..”he pressed his fingers into her shoulders.
“I don’t need a maid..” she persisted.
“But you need someone to assist you, don’t you..?”he asked skeptically.
“Yes but there’s no need for one, why would you need a maid when you got a wife?, what’s her use here?” Ashley said in a venom laced voice, accompanied by a malicious smile.
“You’re right,you know I didn’t think of that..”Hale muttered with a concurring nod.
“I Just made you do,so tell Eve to cook, she’s awake and I’m sure she’s a good cook..” she urged.
“She’s awake?” Hale asked giving her a sharp look.
“Yes…” Ashley said as a throwaway.
“Okay, I’ll go check on her,I’ll be back in a jiffy…”
Hale said airily and got up.
“Alright baby…” He heard behind him as he shot out of the living room like an arrow.

Eve stood,staring helplessly out of the window. Intense bitterness was clearly etched on her face as myraids of heinous thought coursed through her poor mind. What should she do? This was a painful situation indeed.
“Eve!! Eve !!…. Hale’s baritone cut into her thought but she didn’t budge let alone reply.
“Eve….” He called slowly amid opening the door..
No response.
“Eve…!!!..” she heard the foot steps but still didn’t answer, she was just another automation in front of the window,head hanging like an idiot.
“I see you’re awake..”
Hale whispered, wrapping his arms around her wa-ist, hoping to get some minutes of intimacy but Eve wriggled free.
“Leave me alone..” she yelled and backed away from him..
“What is it?” He frowned.
” I’m tired of all this. Go and be with your fiancee..” she thundered hysterically.
“Is that what this is about?” He asked with an eyeroll.
“Yes,go and be with her. I’m fade up already, just let me be…”she ragged.
“What has eaten into you.?”he asked in a hoarse voice.
“Nothing,I just grew up. I’m tired of being used by you, it’s like I sold my soul to the devil. When did I get into this mess?,I can’t believe I let you disrespect me this way…” She sounded with a finality in her tone.
“What nonsense are you talking about woman?” He raked his hair.
“How could you do this to me?” She chided..
“Eve….” He called and distinctively took few steps towards her but stopped as she backed up a couple of steps.
“Stay away from me..!!.. I hate you with so much passion I wish I could strangle you with my bare hands, you’re such a terrible being. So you see me as nothing but a s€×pot, you’re keeping another woman in your house…….” She trailed.
Reluctantly, Hale replied. “Stop it, just stop it. I told you about Ashley, she’s been here before I married you. It’s not like you haven’t heard about her…”
“If this is what marriage to you is like,then I regret it wholly. Oh God why are you not Philip, he is hundred percent better than you.” She reproached in a crabby voice.
“If he is that good,why did you leave him?” He retorted almost immediately.
“I didn’t leave him,he left me because I fell stupidly for you.
I was just being stupid,I got deceived by how hot you look. .” She countered.
“So you’d sleep with any man because of his good look, shame on you Eve. You’re a big disgrace to womanh-od, you’re nothing but a slut.” He admonished and she wince.
“How dare you judge me like that?, you’re a terrible man…” Her voice cracked as tears streamed down her regal cheeks.
“I’m just telling you what you really are, or are you not a slut.?” He said calmly,but to hurt.
“And you,what are you?, don’t worry I’ll tell you what you are. you’re nothing but a big phony,you hide your true self under a facade. When you’re just a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Shame on you Hale. Shame on you, you’re not a man..!!” She yelled in a sob.
“Stop talking..” he slammed his fist on the wall and she jerked but wouldn’t give up.
“I won’t stop,you disgust me.” She yelled, gaining in sharpness.
“I’m warning you,stop talking..” he drew close to her but she didn’t back away.
“You’re nothing but a brute” Eve pointed out still in the same spirit.
“Stop it right now else I’ll slap you so dirty that you’ll become retarded in a minute..” he threatened but she persisted.
“You’ll slap me, that’s nothing new. Go ahead and do it. Slap me Hale, slap me…”
She trailed as he backhanded her twice.
Hale backhanded her so hærd that she fell on her butt but quickly scrambled up to her feets.
“Are you sick?”he queried as she barked out a cry amid palming her cheek.
She was not sure which was more painful,the pain inflicted on her by the slap or those from the realization of what she had gotten herself into. But the pain was there,on the cheek, below the eyes, just by the ear side.
“This is the second time you’ve raised your hands on me, just in two days……” She whimpered.
“You’re the architect of your pains, that’s what you wroth..” He pointed out amid placing an arm akimbo. Then slowly he went.”You thought I came to apologise or explain things to you..”
“No,I knew you came to have a nice time with me. You see me as nothing but a s€×pot…” She sniffled loudly..
“Well you’re right….” He smirked,then hastened to add. “But my main reason for being here is to get you. Ashley wants you to fix dinner..” He uttered in contented airs.
Eve was incensed and scre-med.. “W-what? your girlfriend asked me to …..”
“Fiancee …” He corrected, cutting her off.
“I don’t care if she’s your girlfriend,fiancee whatever I’m not going anywhere. What an insult.!!” Eve sniffled a little.
“You’re joking right?” He frowned and she wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
“I’m serious Hale, I’m not doing anything. I’m tired just tell her to do it herself, she is your fiancee right,she should know how to cook” She shrugged.
“You’re my wife, it’s your duty to cook in this house and not Ashley’s. Now move to the kitchen!!” He seethed, irritated by the lady’s stubbornness.
” I hate you!!” She whimpered and walked out of the room,en route to the living room while Hale rolled his eyes and followed closely behind her.
On getting to the living room, Eve stopped on her track as she s₱0tted Ashley, sitting on one of the sofa operating her phone.
She bit her l-ips trying to console herself, a man she’s married to threat her this way while another woman enjoys and feels comfortable,in his house.

She never thought all this would happen.

“Seriously Eve,are you still here?” He asked nonchalantly, betraying no emotion.
Ashley raised an eyebrow.”We’re not acting a movie,or are we?”
“I’m waiting for you to show me where the kitchen is” Eve mumured, trying to blink back the tears that clouded her blue doe eyes but some wriggled free and trickled down her cheeks.
