🌀 Ethan’s POV 🌀

We walked out of the office and went back to class

The bell soon ranged signifying end of classes
I took my bag and stood up to leave

“Ethan” Addisson called “Tomorrow’s weekend, will you be free?” She asked

“Yes, why?” I asked

“Remember you promised to go for lunch with me” she said and I nodded

“So tomorrow then?” She asked

“Yes” I replied

“Okay, I’ll call you when am coming”

“Okay” I said and she left

I went out of the school with James and I told him about the challenges

“Wow, man this is great, when you’ve won, you are definitely going to sit with me” he said

“How sure are you that am going to win?”

“Its obvious man, the odds are in your favor” he said

“I might win the quiz James and Jade will probably win the race since she choosed it but the 3rd challenge, am not sure if I can win it”

“Come on, it’s simple just make a friend with a pauper what’s hærd about that” he said

“Am sure it’s simple for you but not for me James, I’ve never make friends with people, I don’t know how to make friends”

“But you made friends with me and Addisson” he said

“I didn’t, you guys made the first move and I slowly started to respond, I’ve never made the first move and I don’t think I can”

“You’ll have to try Ethan” James said and I nodded

“I’ll try but I don’t think I can pull it off”

“But like seriously, how can you not know how to make friends, but as a backup, please tell me you are good in racing” he said and i shook my head

“Damn it man, is book the only thing you know?” He asked

“Maybe” I said with a shrug

🌀 Jade’s POV 🌀

I walked into the sitting room and Mom wasn’t there, where’s she?, She’s usually home before me

“Where’s Mom?” I asked a maid that was passing by

“In her room” the maid said and I nodded

I walked upstairs, changed my cloth and sat down on the bed

How am I going to win these challenge, Ethan will definitely win the quiz and I’ll make sure I win the race but the third challenge, how the hell am I gonna relate with a pauper, those poor stinky people, it’s totally impossible

But then again, I really don’t want Ethan to be my tutor
Lately, I’ve been having some kinda funny feeling when he’s around me and am not comfortable with it, so I’ll have to try my best

🌀 Ethan’s POV 🌀

I woke up and slowly stretched my arms
I saw Josh dressing up

“Where are you going?” I asked

“Just somewhere, and I won’t be back till tomorrow” he said and took a briefcase

“Is Dad aware?” I asked “And I never know you had a briefcase, what’s in it?”

“I’ve already told Dad and what’s in the briefcase is no concern of yours so just mind your business little brother” he said and left the room

What’s he up to now; I wondered

I stood up from the bed took my towel and went to the bathroom

I dressed in a casual wear and went to the kitchen to make breakfast

I met Sophie already in the kitchen and we cooked and ate together

I went back to my room and began to read through my books

An hour later, I received a text from Addisson saying she’s on her way

I stood up and looked at myself in the mirror, I look okay, I don’t think I need to change
Wait, why am even concerned about how I look

I took my phone and went to the sitting room

“Sophie, I’ll be going out, will you be able to stay at home alone?” I asked her

“Of course Ethan, this won’t be my first time of staying home alone but please buy something for when coming back” she said and I nodded

I walked out of the house and moments later, a car stopped in front of me and it was Addisson

🌀 Addisson’s POV 🌀

I stopped in front of Ethan and God, even in his simple dressing, he still looks so dashing

“Get in” I said as I unlocked the car door

He opened it and sat down

“Good morning Addisson” he greeted and I smiled

I drove into a classy restaurant and we went in

We sat on a table and took the menu

“Addisson” Ethan called and I looked up

“These are all too expensive, I don’t think I’ll be able to pay for any of it” he said and chuckled, this guy is just too innocent

“Don’t worry Ethan, I’ll pay” I said

“Really?, Thanks”

We ordered our food and we began to talk about random things while we ate

I just couldn’t keep my eyes off Ethan, does this guy know how amazing he is

We finished eating and I bought some foods as a takeaway to eat at home

We entered the car and I drove us back to Ethan’s house

He came down from the car
“Stay for a while before you leave” he said and I obliged

I got down from the car and we went in

We met his junior sister, Sophie in the sitting room

“Welcome back Ethan” she said as she hugged Ethan

“Addisson right?” She said and I smiled

“You remember my name” I said

“Of course, how can I forget my brother’s first friend” she said and I smiled again

🌀 Ethan’s POV 🌀

“You didn’t buy anything for me?” Sophie asked turning to me

It was then I remembered, I promised to get her something on my way back

“Sorry….” I couldn’t finish as Addisson interrupted me

“Of course we bought something for you Sophie, it’s in the car, should we go get it together?” She asked and Sophie nodded
Then they walked out of the house together

“Pheww” I sighed, Addisson just saved me from Sophie’s endless talk on how I forgot to buy something for her

The door opened and they came in
Sophie was holding a bag

“Ethan, it’s Hamburger and ice cream!!, Thanks for buying it” Sophie squealed

“It’s actually Addison that bought it Sophie, so you should thank her instead” I said

“Thank you so much Addisson” she said with a smile

“No problem, just call me Addy”

“You know what Addy?” Sophie said

“What” Addisson asked

“We are friends from today” Sophie squealed

“Why would you be friends with Addisson, she’s already my friend” I said to Sophie

“Come on Ethan, am okay with it” Addisson said and I smiled

This girl is Cool and Calm, unlike someone else I know

Addisson spent some time with us before she decided to go and I walked her to the car

“Thanks for everything” I said

“No problem Ethan” she said and she drove off

It’s Monday again, and I’ve already bathed

I took my uniform from the wardrobe and dressed up

I took my backpack and went off to school

I walked into the school and went off to my class

Addisson was in the class and we greeted and I went to my seat

Moments later, James walked in and came up to me

“Today’s the day for the quiz challenge right?” He asked

“Ohh right, I even forgot about it” I said

“Well, even if you read or not you’ll still win but we have to win the second challenge Ethan, that way there’ll no 3rd challenge” he said

“Why are you so interested in all this?” I asked

“Isn’t it obvious, I want you to be my seatmate” he said and I shook my head

Moments later, Jade came in and James quickly went to his seat, it’s obvious he’s still afraid of Jade

The bell rang for a break and the principal came into the class

“Jade, Ethan follow me” she said

Jade and I stood up and followed her to an empty class

“Am sure you guys still remember our deal right?” She asked and we nodded

“Good, now let’s make this snappy” she said and gave Jade and I a question paper

It was general questions, it contained questions from all the subjects

“Both of you have the same questions and you have 30 minutes, whoever scores the highest wins the first challenge” she said

I began to answer my questions and they weren’t really that hærd

We finished the paper and we both submitted to the principal

“I’ll get back to you before the school ends” she said and left

We also walked to our class and classes soon began

Hours later; it was already few minutes to closing hour then Mrs Logan came in

“Jade and Ethan, your presence are requested by the principal” she said and we stood up and went to the principal office

“I’ve marked both of your answers and I was actually surprised” she said and my heart leaped, did I not win?

“I was surprised at how poor you performed Jade, Ethan got all his questions but you were only able to get 3 questions” she said and I sighed in relief

“Ethan wins this challenge, the racing challenge will take place in the gym next tomorrow” she said

“Okay” Jade said

As soon as we left the office, the bell ranged for end of the school day

I walked to the class, took my backpack and went out of the school with James

“You won right?” James asked and I nodded

“When is the racing competition?” He asked

“Next tomorrow” I replied

“Oh no, we don’t have much time” he exclaimed

“Time for what?” I asked

“For me to train you for the race of course”

“I don’t need your training” I said

“You have no say in this Ethan, am going to train you so well that you’ll win this 2nd challenge and there won’t be any need for the pauper challenge before you’ll go f-ck up” he said

“I don’t think I can win the race” I said

“You will win Ethan, I’ll be your coach and trust me, am a perfect coach” he said with a smile and I scoffed

🌀 Jade’s POV 🌀

I stepped down from the car and walked into the school

Since my friends has been suspended, there’s nobody to wait for me at the gate anymore

Why did I even do that, I let Cole get expelled, Emma and Daisy get suspended all because of Ethan

I don’t even know what’s happening to me, that day that I hugged Ethan at his house, I felt something, I don’t know what but I felt something and I’ve been really feeling uncomfortable with Ethan lately
I need some distance from Ethan and the tutoring lessons aren’t helping, that’s why I need to win the challenges no matter what

I dropped my backpack in my locker and took my gym clothes, I don’t plan on attending classes today

I went to the gym and began practicing for the race, If I don’t win this then I’ll have no chance of winning again

🌀 Ethan’s POV 🌀

“Let’s go to the gym after school” James said and I nodded

We went to the cafeteria, had our lunch and went back to class

I wonder why Jade isn’t in school today, this is the first time she’s missing school, I hope there’s nothing wrong

The bell ranged for end of the school day

James and walked to the gym, went into the gym locker room and changed into our gym clothes

We came out to the gym and we saw Jade leaving the gym with her backpack

Was she in the gym all day, does she want to win so much?

“You see Man, Jade has been practicing, you’ve got to practice too” he said

“She’s gonna win James” I said

“Nope, don’t give up” he said and I nodded

I began training and I ran round the gym a few times

“You are running like a duck Ethan!” James yelled and I scoffed

“As if you could do better” I said

I ran some more and I got tired

“That’s it James, I don’t care what you say, am going home” I said and took my backpack

“Since you wanna loose, no problem, let’s go home” he said and I scoffed

We walked to the bus station and entered the bus and James kept blabbering about how I must win the race tomorrow

“Why are you so interested in this” I asked

“Isn’t obvious, it’s fun and I like anything fun” he said with a smile

🌀 Jade’s POV 🌀

I woke up, showered and dressed up for school

I walked to the dinning room and had my breakfast

“You know today’s the race right?” Mom asked

“Yes Mom” I said

I finished eating and left for school

I went to my locker and took my books and went straight to class

I miss my friends, now I have no one to talk to but strangely, I don’t regret reporting them

Ethan was already in class and I went to my seat quietly, why do I feel so uncomfortable around this boy recently

I’ll definitely have to win the challenges cause I’ll be more uncomfortable if Ethan continues being my tutor

🌀 Mrs Prescott’s POV 🌀

I drove into the school’s parking lot and parked my car

I’ve been busy preparing for the 3rd challenge
Am really counting on Jade winning today’s race

These challenges is not just about making Jade concentrate on Ethan’s tutoring, it’s about changing both Jade and Ethan to be the better version of themselves

Jade is rude and spoilt, she hates relating with poor people, Ethan is an extreme introvert, he doesn’t speak much that’s why he couldn’t defend himself before
This third task will be challenging for both of them, the rude Jade will have to relate with poor people that she despise and silent Ethan will have to learn how to make friends
I just hope my plan works

I checked my wristwatch and it was almost closing hour

I walked into the school and went to Jade’s class

The class greeted immediately I entered and I told Jade and Ethan to follow me to the gym

We went to the gym together and some people were there but I didn’t tell them to leave, I could use an audience

“Am sure you guys know today’s the race right” I said and they nodded

“Good, you guys should go change to your gym cloth” I said and they both went to their respective locker rooms

Few minutes later and they were back dressed in there gym cloth

“You guys know the rule, winner is the first person that cross the finish line, if Jade win, we move on to the next challenge but if Ethan’s win, I guess there’s no need for the next task” I said

Oh God, please let Jade win; I silently prayed

They both stood in front of the track and immediately I blew the whistle, they began to run

Jade was leading at first and I was very happy but moments later, Ethan started catching up to her

“Go Ethan, show them I trained you” I heard a boy shout from the little crowd that was watching

Ethan soon ran past Jade and my heart sank, Jade have to win for the third task to hold

Ethan was close to the finish line and I looked at Jade, she was increasing in speed and was catching up on Ethan
They were almost in the finish line and Jade ran past Ethan and crossed the line first

Yes!!, I almost shouted aloud

The third challenge will hold

I allowed them to freshen up first and asked them to meet me in my office when they are done

I walked to my office and sat on the chair

I just hope my plan will work and this third task will change both of them for the better

Minutes later, there was a knock on my door

“Come in” I said and Ethan and Jade came in

“Both of you can sit” I said and they sat down on the chair facing me

“Since Jade won the second task, we’ll be moving to the third task” I said and they nodded

“The third task is that you have to make friends with a pauper and the first person to make the friend wins. So tomorrow I’ll be taking you to the slum” I said and waited for Jade’s reaction. Slum is the place where really poor people live and am sure she’ll hate being there

“Slum!!!” Jade exclaimed and I smiled “I can’t go to such a filthy place Mom” she said

“Then that means you’ll be forfeiting to Ethan and he’ll automatically be the winner, is that what you want?” I asked and she slowly shook her head

“Good, as I was saying before, I’ll take both of you to the slum after school tomorrow and you’ll spend 3 hours there, I’ll assign a car to always take you guys there after school and the first person to make friends with any of the paupers there wins the challenge” I said and both of them nodded

“Remember, I’ve hired someone to follow you guys so am always watching. You guys can go now” I said and they left the office

I just hope this task really change them for the better

🌀 Ethan’s POV 🌀

I walked out of the office and met James waiting for me

“You were amazing man, even though I gave you some practice, I never really imagined you’ll run that well” he said

“But I still didn’t win” I said

“You still have a chance Ethan, there’s still the third challenge” he said

“But don’t you understand James, I don’t know how to make friends, I find it difficult to talk to people am not familiar with”

“You’ll have to try Ethan, it’s not over until it’s over” James said

We walked towards the gate and met Addisson, she looked sad

“What’s wrong Addisson?” I asked

“My cousin brother, he’s in the hospital, he was diagnosed with stroke” she said in a sad voice

“Sorry Addy, I hope he gets well soon” James said but I didn’t say anything

I really don’t know how to sympathize with people or make them feel better

“Are you going home now?” I asked

“No, am going to the hospital” she replied

“We’ll come with you” I said and James nodded in agreement

“Thanks guys, you can come with me in the car” she said and we went in,side the car with her
She sat down in the front seat so James and I sat in the back seat

The driver stopped in front of a big hospital and we stepped out of the car

We walked into the hospital and she lead us to the hospital room her cousin brother is in

She opened the door to the room and we saw two nurses moving a body from the room

“What’s going on Mom?” She asked a woman standing in tears

“He’s dead Addy, Dustin is dead” her Mom said amidst tears

“What, no, he can’t die” Addisson said as she ran out of the room in tears

James look at me and I understood what she meant, we should go after her

We went after Addisson and saw her sitting on a chair in the hallway of the hospital and I sat down by her side

“Addison” I called

“He was just like my brother Ethan, his parents died and he’s been living with us since I was a kid and now he’s dead too” she said and broke into tears

She’s really hurt, and it hurts me that there’s nothing I can do to help

“It’s gonna be okay” I said as i patted her back

She broke into tears again and this time, she hugged me while she was still crying

I stayed still, not knowing what to do, this is the second time she’s hugging me and it feels strange
