The pr-stitute 1 – end

The pr-stitute 1
……………………………………..
He knocked on the door two times and waited for an answer, but none came. He was about knocking again when the door opened. Nora sluggishly opened the door from the in,side. She was still clothed in her revealing nighties and her eyes were still sleepy. It was almost mid day, an odd time for an able bodied adult to be in bed. When she saw who her visitor was, she gave out a long hiss and moved back in,side, leaving the door open. Paul followed her into the apartment. Once in,side the one room self-contained apartment, Nora sat on the mattress on the floor with an angry face while Paul sat in a plastic armchair by the side of the mattress.
“I’ve told you that whatever you are playing at, I’m not interested. Take your whatever and leave me alone to do my business. If you need someone to talk to, there are many counsellors lazying around in government hospitals looking for whom would talk to them. Leave me alone, Mr man”, Nora said, almost shouting but with courtesy. Paul sat calmly with a broad smile across his face as he watched Nora rant. He seemed to be amused looking at her. When Nora was done with her angry speech, Paul spoke. “Good morning pretty Nora, how was your night?”, Paul asked calmly with traces smiles still on his face. With that response, Nora had mixed feelings. She was angered that all Paul could say after her outburst was asking how her night was. She was also surprised at how someone would remain so calm even when being yelled at by someone way below his league. Ultimately, she was briefly carried away by the bliss oozing out from Paul’s lovely smile. While she was still deciding how to proceed, Paul said why he’d come.
……..
Nora was a young, intelligent, smart and pretty girl in her mid twenties. She was a student in one of the tertiary institutions in the state. She was studying applied chemistry. In school, she kept a very small circle of acquaintances. She led a very private life even though she was one of the brightest students in her department. But aside being a student, Nora was a pr-stitute who operated in the night and on demand. Her area of operation was towards the part of the town where rich people lived. This was because unlike the poor, the rich paid more handsomely and didn’t have the mentality of sapping off all the juice in the s€× hawker in a bid to get maximum value for their money.
From the proceeds Nora made from her pr-stitution business, she took care of her schooling and paid other bills. She also made it a point of duty to regularly donate part of this money to orphanages and the less privileged people’s homes. She experienced the ugly effects of orphanhood firsthand.
During one of her night outs, Nora stood by the roadside and waited for potential clients when an exotic SUV pulled up in front of her. The front side window of the vehicle rolled down and the driver who was the single occup-nt of the car spoke to her. He looked late thirties. He looked angry and seemed to know the drill already. When he asked Nora how much it would cost to have her company for the night, she told him an exorbitant amount hoping for a bargain to ensue. But none came. The client accepted the amount without a bargain to Nora’s surprise. She was surprised and frightened as well. Reluctantly, she entered the vehicle and they drove off.
They arrived at the man’s house which was a fine duplex with a well furnished interior. in,side the house, Nora couldn’t relax. She was convinced in her mind that she’d come to the end of the road. She concluded that the kind of affluence showing all around the house was of illegitimate wealth, probably got through blood rituals. Subconsciously, she was waiting for when her host would order his boys to seize her and take her to the slaughter house. But that didn’t happen. Instead, her host urged her to feel free. She tried her best to do so but couldn’t. The environment alone was overwhelming for her.
Later in the night, when they had bathed, had dinner offered by her host and had retired to bed, her host left what they’d come to do for another thing. “I’m Paul, a business man in the city. I’m sorry to have wasted your time but I’ll pay you the agreed amount. I was very angered by a colleague and I thought having s€× would calm me. But now that I have bathed and eaten, I don’t think s€× is still necessary”, Paul said in a calm tone. Nora was surprised to see a man of his class according so much respect to a pr-stitute. She reciprocated the introduction and they started discussing. To Paul’s surprise, the w—e he picked on the road had plenty intelligence stored in her brain. He was marvelled. They discussed for a long time before Paul slept off. Early the next morning, Paul paid her the agreed amount and she left. Before she left, he got her number.
After that day, Paul started inviting Nora to his house at intervals. Whenever he needed to pick someone’s brain on something, he’d invite her. She’d come, they’d discuss and Paul would pay her without touching her. When he needed to attend functions, he’d invite her along and would pay her while dropping her off. Sometimes, he’d gift her some expensive items along with the payment. Gradually this became a practice and Nora was not okay with it. She confronted Paul about and threatened severally to stop honoring his invitations if he’d not take what he was paying for. She had always warned Paul that she was not interested in whatever he was playing at and that she was strictly out for business, and not seeking for sympathy or free money. If not that the pay was good, she’d have carried on with her threats sooner. But she didn’t.
Time went on and Paul insisted on this practice. To maintain her sanity over whatever Paul’s ‘stupidity’ was effecting in her mind, Nora severed her association with Paul. She started with not honoring his invitations and later proceeded to not taking his calls. He would call many times, text as well, but Nora will ignore all of them. She was bent on maintaining her code of business; money for s€× and nothing more. When Paul couldn’t reach her for a long time, he decided to look for her in the lodge where he always dropped her. With some directions from her neighbors, he located her room.
……………
“I have fallen in love with you, Nora. I don’t care who you are or how we met, but the woman I see in you is exactly who my heart yearns for. I’ve come here to tell you that and I hope you will accept me as your man”, Paul said to Nora’s surprise.
Should we end it here or continue the story?
The pr-stitute 2
……………………………………………..
Paul’s statement threw Nora completely off guard. She was having hints of Paul having other plans for her but she didn’t expect it to be so massive and confusing. She also didn’t expect that Paul would say such, she was rather expecting him to query why she’d not been taking his calls nor replying his texts. His revelation of his feelings for her was a wh0le new level for her. For a while, her mind couldn’t come up with any replies give. She only managed to say “I have nothing to say now, I’ll have to give it a thought”. Paul accepted the reply, stood up and made to leave. A few steps towards the door, he stopped and said “I’m glad to meet you in good health, please don’t spend so much time thinking”. After saying that, he left.
Immediately he left, Nora collapsed onto the bed and started thinking. She replayed all the things that had happened between her and Paul; from the moment of their meeting to how Paul had treated and how much respect he had for her. In her spirit, she was convinced that Paul truly loved her like he said. She also knew that she’d developed some feelings for him as well which was why she stayed away from him. She was about deciding on a positive reply to Paul’s request but a quick reality check didn’t allow her.
She weighed the reality on a balance and decided not to accept Paul’s proposal. She considered her background, who she was when Paul met her, he social class, what effect her chosen profession would have on whatever she’d have with Paul in the future and many other odds she thought were not in her favor. She compared what she was worth to who Paul was and was convinced that the impropriety was too much. With that, she made a decision to decline Paul’s proposal even though she had feelings for that gentleman who had treated her with so much respect.
About a week later, when she had made up her mind on what to say to Paul and summoned the courage to face him, she set out to Paul’s house. She met Paul in the sitting room where he was listening to the news. After they exchanged pleasantries, Nora sat awfully quiet as she contemplated on how best to deliver her ‘declination’ speech. Paul noticed her uneasiness and urged her to relax her nerves. He also assured her that he’d not get upset no matter what she would say. This assurance calmed Nora down a bit and she spoke.
“Paul, you’ve been kind to me since we met and you have accorded me the respect I didn’t deserve. I like you as a friend but can’t you see the gap? In another world, in another life, I would gladly grab at your proposal with both hands. Your are a good man. But in this life, we’re worlds apart. You met as a pr-stitute, a low life and that will forever ring a bell if we hold anything. I appreciate all you’ve done for me since we met but I think we’ve come to the end of whatever we have. Please don’t consider me an ingrate for turning down your proposal. We’re who we are and that’s it. I can’t date you”, Nora said while trying so hærd not to cry and to avoid Paul’s face as well. While she was speaking, Paul just listened with a light smile across his face. When she stopped talking, Paul stood up, went over to where she was and sat beside her.
He held her hands and said “Nora, I would say that meeting you was a pleasant coincidence but what I feel for you, what I ask of you is my deliberate heart desire. I’ve thought of all the reasons you gave which would make us not to be together before making this move. I know how I met you and I know who you have been since then. I don’t care what your past looks like, I started knowing you from the moment I met you. Who you were is immaterial to me as long as you will give room for a positive change. Our worlds would be the same if we agree to make them so. Please my dear, believe me when I say I love you, it’s not something I do easily”. He then looked directly into her eyes and asked “Now tell me sweetheart, coolval stories have you no feelings for me?” Nora pulled her hands away from Paul’s, shifted her gaze and was faintly saying “I do have feelings for you but you know…….. ” when Paul glued his l-ips to hers, giving her a very passionate k-ss.
Nora wanted to pull away but couldn’t. The feeling she was trying to suppress was overwhelming and she couldn’t fight anymore. Slowly, she reciprocated the k-ss and they proceeded to an intense rom-nce session. Soon afterwards, their clothes were off and Paul was already hitting hærd while Nora mo-ned pleasurably. For the first time since she started having s€×, she forgot to ask for c-ndom. After some long minutes of intense banging (Room 306), both of them reached o—-m and collapsed onto the couch. While they laid on the couch in their natural forms, Nora asked “now what?” “Officially, we’re now lovers”, Paul replied with so much excitement. From that day, they hit off a relationsh¡p in which both of them were very committed. It was a blissful thing.
During the course of their relationsh¡p, Nora told Paul everything about her life and how she ended up in the pr-stitution business. She told him about the loss of her parents at a tender age and how her relatives took turns in making her their slave. Ultimately, she told him how some rich kids raped her when she was hawking for one of her aunties and how she started using her body to make money since after the incidence. Her stories were heartbreaking and Paul cried while listening. Nora also cried while telling her stories. It was then that Paul discovered that all the tough fronts she was posing were just cover ups for the lots of pains she’d bottled in,side. He made her a promise to make sure she lacked nothing anymore. He also promised to do his best in helping her forget the ugly experiences she had in the past. He promised her love and protection.
Time went on and their relationsh¡p blossomed. They were madly in love with each other and there was no doubt they would make a good couple. Paul was convinced he’d found a wife and started making plans towards making her his. He org-nized a graduation party for her and planned on surprisingly popping the ‘will you marry me’ question at her with a ring when she least expected. He invited his friends and his younger brother to the party. Everything was set and the guests were waiting for the celebrant to make an entrance. Immediately she entered and was introduced by Paul as the love of his life, everyone was cheering and dishing out ‘congratulations’ except for Paul’s younger brother. He recognized Nora from their previous dealings. He quickly pulled Paul by the hand and led him to a quieter place.
“Bro, you can’t marry that girl. She is a pr-stitute, me and my friends have carried her a few times. You can’t marry her, bro”, Paul’s younger brother said immediately they were alone. Paul looked at him with a smile and said “I know she was a pr-stitute, but she is the woman I want to marry”, to his brother’s surprise. After saying that, Paul walked straight to Nora, brought out the ring, knelt before her and asked “will you spend your life with me, Nora?”
I will tell the next part of the story to my female friends only.
The pr-stitute 3 (the end)
……………………………………………..
The engagement happened and everyone was happy, except for Paul’s brother. Nora wasn’t entirely surprised by Paul’s proposal. She already knew how deeply Paul’s love for her ran and she’d had feelers of it through his body language. Nonetheless, she shed some tears of joy and gratitude as Paul slid the diamond ring onto her left middle finger. It was one of the most blissful moments of their relationsh¡p so far. While everyone was cheering and congratulating the love birds, Paul’s brother stepped aside and started making phone calls.
“Mom, Paul has gone completely mad. The girl he has been telling you about is a known w—e in the city and Paul is aware. I warned him just now yet he went ahead and engaged her”, Paul’s brother angrily related to their mother over the phone. Their mother got angry as well. “Why would my son engage a woman without first bringing her to meet his family? Is that what I taught him?”, their mother responded over the phone. She went ahead and calmed her son down and promised to deter Paul from marrying Nora if she didn’t meet their family’s standard. With that assurance, Paul’s brother calmed down a bit and joined the party halfheartedly. After the party, everyone went to their various homes and Paul was left alone with his new fiancee.
While they were relaxing in bed after having a round of mind-blowing s€×, Paul decided to prepare Nora for what laid ahead. “My love, I believe you saw when my brother pulled me aside. He recognized you from the previous encounters he had with you. He warned me not to go ahead with the engagement. I know him, he must have called my mom already to tell her that. I’m not worried about anything, I only need you to be strong in the midst of all the attacks they’d bring against us. We’re in this together”, Paul calmly told Nora while trying not to rattle her. When Nora heard that, she got up to a sitting position and signs of worries appeared on her face. She knew she’d face some challenges associated with their union but having to face her fiancee’s mother was not among what she envisaged. She felt afraid but the trust she had in Paul’s protection strengthened her mind. She laid back on the bed, rested her head on Paul’s chest and whispered “thank you, my love.”
Time went on and Paul’s family started tackling his union with Nora. His mother who was the captain of the army against Paul and Nora’s union would never let Paul rest. She would call him times without count and scold him for engaging a woman without his parents’ approval. She’d instruct him to severe every ties he had with the ‘pr-stitute’. Whenever she called concerning that issue, Paul would try to remind her that pr-stitutes and even criminals are still humans and need love as well. He would also remind her that most of the people engaging in such acts were led into them by circ-mstances they couldn’t control. Whenever Paul brought up this reasoning in defence for his fiancee, his mother would accuse Nora of having poisoned Paul’s mind through diabolic means. She would also swear to go to any length to destroy whatever charms Nora was using on her son. How far a mother is willing to go to protect her child.
Paul’s father also joined the struggle. Even though he was subtle in his approach and never believed Nora had any diabolic control over Paul, he would always give Paul reasons why his association with Nora would not be in the best interest of their family. He would always remind Paul that “onye ana ekiri ekiri adighi mma ikpo ntu (a public figure shouldn’t engage in a show of shame.” He begged Paul not to drag the name of their family in the mud just because of what he felt for a woman. Whenever Paul’s father gave these reasons, Paul would remind him that people need second chances in life and that life has always been unfair to many. The vehemence with which he always ass**ted this later part of his argument always baffled his father.
Time went on and the pressure on Paul to disassociate himself from Nora intensified. But Paul never let Nora feel any of the heat. He completely shielded her from his family’s scorn that Nora started believing that everything had become well. Little did she know that the man who swore to protect her had been taking fire from every angle but protected her from it. No wonder they said that without sacrifices, love is nothing. When the heat became unbearable, Paul decided to do the unthinkable. He asked Nora to esc-rt him to see a friend in another city, but he was actually taking her to see his parents unannounced.
They left in the afternoon and got to Paul’s parents’ house late in the evening. When they arrived, his parents and his younger brother were all at home. It was when they were already in,side the compound that Paul told Nora where they were. She became scared and cold-footed but Paul soothed her as usual. When they entered the house, Paul’s brother was seeing a movie in the sitting room while his parents were upstairs. Immediately Paul’s brother saw them, his countenance changed and he called their parents. From the staircase, Paul’s mother started shouting at Nora, accusing her of hypnotizing her son and asking her whether she thought her charms would work on the wh0le family. It took a great effort from Paul’s father to calm her down. When she was heaping the abuses and accusations on Nora, she (Nora) started crying and wanted to run out but Paul held her. When everyone seemed to have calmed down, Paul spoke.
“Mom, dad, this is Nora, the woman I want to spend my life with. She’s an orphan and a graduate of Applied Chemistry. She also pr-stituted to survive and see herself through school but that was in the past now”, Paul said. Immediately he said that, his mother flared up. “And of all the girls in the city, it is this w—e you want to marry?”, she retorted. Her snap angered Paul and he started talking with so much rage.
“And you think you raised saints, mom? Because there was plenty of money to take care of them and give them the best education and things in life? You think you raised saints because they never had to fend for themselves from a tender age, because they had all they needed, because their parents were alive to take care of them? Mom, have you thought about those who didn’t have such opportunities and care? Have you thought about the orphans, the girl children let out at tender ages to ply the dangerous streets for survival?”, Paul said with tears flowing down his cheeks. He dragged Nora by the hand, led her in front of his brother and continued. “Look at her very well Ben, do you recognize her?, Paul asked. Ben was surprised, he’d known her as Nora and nothing else. “Of course you won’t, but this was that little girl that was hawking banana we raped years ago. Yes, you and I, the rich kids that had everything they wanted. Do you now remember? What we did to her led her into pr-stitution and you sit here and tell me about moral values. I got to know because I listened to her stories. They are many of her”, Paul said still crying.
Everybody was surprised and dumbfounded, including Nora. Paul’s parents’ jaws dropped and Ben bent his head in shame. Nora ran out of the house and Paul ran after her. He got her by the gate and held her hand. With tears in her eyes she asked whether what he said in there was true and Paul answered “yes”. She asked when he found out and why he didn’t tell her. “I found out when you narrated the events of the rape to me. I couldn’t tell you because I didn’t want to lose you and I also didn’t want to open a healed wound. I am sorry and ashamed of what I did back then. I hope you can forgive me”, Paul replied in an apologetic tone. Nora left him and entered the car they came in. Paul entered the car as well and they drove off.
Their wedding took place months later.
Love has conquered again.
