CHAPTER 43

The ambulance arrived shortly and the paramedics quickly placed him on a stretcher, he was taken into the ambulance, Sally sat with him in,side the ambulance

Philip helped crying Melanie up and further helped her into the car before driving behind the ambulance to the hospital

“Stella is at work, without doubt it’s her” Philip said during the drive

He decided to file a case against her instantly, he called the cops during the drive and reported, a case was filed against her immediately and she was declared wanted

For the fact that she even came to his office to threaten him, it’s enough evidence, she must be trying to get rid of them in order to get Robin

Wait…. Robin!

“Drive home!, Fast!” He ordered the driver

He reversed the car and drove crazily down the street, Melanie understood that move instantly

“My son” she said fearfully, they got home and they both literally jumped out of the car, the guards are still parading round the house

“Your son is safe sir” the leader of the guards said

They both heaved an heavy sigh before Philip held Melanie’s shoulder, “I’ll go to the hospital and stay with Sally, stay home with Rob ok?” He said

She nodded and hugged him shortly after which he got in the car and drove off to the hospital

Melanie went in , still sobbing silently, she got to Robin’s room and met him still sleeping silently, but one thing she noticed is that the way he breathes is not normal at all

“Why?” She wondered aloud and placed her finger at the entrance of his nose

His breath is so hot that she had to remove her hand quickly

“What’s happening?, Is he sick?” She wondered aloud again, that woke Robin up

” Mummy? ” He called, sitting up, Melanie hugged him immediately

“I’m glad you’re fine” she said, “mum did something go wrong?” Robin asked

” Dear, I know I shouldn’t be telling you this right now but I just want to, cos there’s no way you won’t find out” she said

” What? ” Robin asked anxiously

” Leo,.. Leo is fighting for his life in the hospital, he got affected badly in a blast” she said and that made Robin’s eyes almost pop out in horror

“What!, Mum will he be ok?, He won’t die right?” He said impatiently

Melanie hugged him again, ” let’s keep praying for him baby, he’ll be fine though it might take time” she replied

” And you… Are you ok?, Your breathing is not normal and it’s somehow hot” she said, breaking the hug

” Mum I’m ok, it’s as a result of heat” he replied

“Heat in spring?”

“That’s just my body nature” he replied, smiling innocently

” Just be ok for me ok? ” She said and Robin nodded

Almost immediately, she felt like puking, she held her mouth and rushed to the bathroom but she vomited nothing, yeah she has been feeling nauseous and morning sickness since three days ago but she counted it as nothing

“Mum are you ok?” Rob asked behind her

She looked at him and smiled, “mum is ok dear, come here” she said and drew him closer to give him a hug…

Philip and Sally paced up and down the reception, waiting for when the doctors will come out and say whatever it is

“Leo” Philip kept mouthing

Of all the people he can’t lose in this world, he’s one of the important ones

“I can’t lose you please fight for your life , fight the fight squarely and fiercely, Leo you can’t leave” he kept saying…

” Leo please, we still have a lot to do together, we still have places to go together and I still have a lot to tell you, Leo please you can’t leave” Sally lamented, still crying badly

The emergency ward door swung open and a doctor came out to them

“Doctor how’s it?, He’s ok right?, Huh?” Sally asked fast

” He hit a fragile part of his head but…

“But what?” Philip interrupted

“We got it fixed and it might take time for him to wake up, he’ll be fine”

Sally and Philip inhaled hærd at the same time, sigh of relief

“I’m glad, I’m glad” Sally muttered

“Can we go see him now?” Philip asked

“No sir, you can’t for now, we’ll only allow you to enter that ward when he’s stable, he’s not too stable for now” the doctor replied

” Ok doc, we gat that” Philip replied and the doctor left

The cops came to get their speeches and he stated it clear that Stella definitely came to his office to threaten him and therefore she’s the only suspect

Her wanted pictures were uploaded everywhere, “Please, you guys need to get her as fast as possible” Sally said

“Dmn!!!” Stella ranted as she watched the news

” I can’t believe it failed, I can’t believe all the efforts crumbled” Kat replied, taking off her gloves

It was actually her and Rico who went to plant the bomb

“It failed cos you guys are idiots!, How could you plant a time bomb behind a door?, How could you? ” Stella said disappointedly

” But we never knew it’ll result in this, calm down S-lady” Rico said

” I should calm down when I’m now wanted?, For f*ck sake I thought this mission will be just a piece of cake but you guys turned it to a rocky mission, eish!” She ranted

*There’ll always be another way so calm down” Kat said

” Don’t talk to me like that or I’ll wound you! ” Stella said, glaring dangerously at her

“Calm down Stella, don’t transfer your aggression on her” Rico said

Stella rolled eyes at him and Kat before leaving

“Don’t mind S-lady, she gets cranky when a mission fails” Rico said

” I joined this group because I wanted revenge, I never knew it’ll be as hærd as this” Kat said”

Rico moved closer to her and scanned her face till her toes

“You’re not bad I swear” he said, licking his l-ips

“Really? ” Kat said, getting excited

” Yeah, sxy than Stella” he replied and $panked her bum before leaving after winking

Valerie and Susan can be seen rushing into the hospital the next day

The blogs are full of recovery messages for Leo from fans, his Co workers at J-bliss are also present though no one has been allowed to see him

Melanie is present too with Robin in her arms, he insisted he’s not going to school, then Carolyn

The city is just full of what happened last night and nothing more

“Stella, that monkey has started striking, why must it be my HNP? ” Carolyn said sadly

” The cops has been searching everywhere for that devil since last night but she’s nowhere to be found, I just know she’ll be somewhere right now, hiding” Philip said behind her

” So the war is just beginning” Susan said

“But the strongest lives right?” Valerie replied

Sally just kept sobbing, that’s what she has been doing since last night…

Robin suddenly felt that sharp chest pain again and held his chest tight

“Robin” Melanie called with concern

“Mum I’m fine” he replied, still holding his chest

Michelle entered immediately with her dad

“Oh!, Good thing we met, Mr and Mrs Albert, Michelle told me something about Robin and I think you guys should know about it” Mr Jeremy said

Robin Started coughing incoherently

” Robin! ” Philip called, taking him from Melanie

“The thing is, he might be having heart problem, Michelle told me he has been experiencing chest pain for more than two months now” Mr Jeremy said

Another look at Robin, he’s already bleeding from the nose

“Robin!” Carolyn scre-med

Tears fell from Robin’s eyes as more blood fell from his nose, his eyes Started shutting and he went limp

“Robin!” Melanie scre-med, Philip ran all the way to the emergency ward with Robin in his arms, he was taken by doctors, he was told to stay out with Melanie though they did that with difficulty

“Not now, why will he keep something like that from us” Melanie said tearfully

” I dunno, Robin will never keep the smallest secret from us, I dunno why it’s like that this time” Philip said silently

” Nothing must happen to Robin, nothing must happen to my grandson” Carolyn kept lamenting as they all paced round the place

First it was Leo, and now little Robin?, How far will Stella’s badluck go? Philip thought sadly

Fifteen minutes later**

The doctors appeared but the look on their faces shows all’s not well

“How’s he doing?, He’s fine right?” Melanie asked impatiently

“He’d be fine, if only he gets a new heart in three days” the doctor replied

“Meaning?” Philip asked impatiently

“He has been living with coronary artery disease, also known as ischemic heart disease for the past three months”

“The supply of blood to his heart is narrowed, leading to chest pain, arrhythmias and heart failure, I’m sure he has been experiencing chest pain and arrhythmias…. The next stage is heart failure if a donor is not found within three days, and you know what happens when the heart fails” the doctor explained

Melanie slumped on a chair

” It is finished!!!!” She scre-med

“Some even find it hærd to find a donor within two weeks, but now three days? ” Philip said

” I’m sorry Mr Albert, three days or we’re gonna lose the child” the doctor said

” I can’t lose Robin! ” Carolyn said, crying for the first time since she came

“You won’t lose him” Susan said slowly, feeling the throat pain again…

CHAPTER 44

“What do we do?” Melanie said in tears

“We should hope for him to get a donor before three days time, that’s the only thing we can do.. hope” the doctor replied.

” Ok doctor” Philip said slowly, he’s broken to wrecks in,side but he’s trying to hide it

He sat dejectedly on the chair and started staring into space

“We’ll include his name in the list of donor recipients and the search for his donor will start immediately” the doctor stated before leaving

” What do we do?, I can’t lose my grandson” Carolyn said , wiping her tears

” Doctor told us to hope” Philip said slowly

“Robin, we can’t lose him” Valerie said slowly

The doctor who went in,side Leo’s ward the other time came out

“He’s stable now, you can go in but no noise please” he said

” Sure” Sally replied and is the first to go in while the others followed

Leo is lying on the bed with a bandaged head and Philip can’t help but feel guilty, he did this for him cos if not for him, he’d have died with Melanie

Sally sat beside him and rested her head on his side

“Please wake up soon” she said

“Buddy, you need to really wake up soon, you still have a lot to do please” Philip said

” HNP, a lot of horror novels collection are still waiting for you to read them, just wake up very soon” Carolyn said sadly..

They stayed with him quietly in the ward for a while before going into Robin’s ward, he’s lying helplessly on the bed and he’s unconscious, now a pipe of oxygen has been passed into his nose and he’s breathing with the aid of that

“My boy” Philip said and all the tears he has been hiding fell

This is the height of sadness, utter sadness

“Watching him down like this is kinda scary, you know..for a kid who’s a talkative” Melanie sniffed

” I can’t believe he has actually been hiding it since all these days, I can’t believe it” Philip said

” I was surprised when Michelle told me about it too, I got alarmed and had to rush down here” Mr Jeremy said

” He will be ok right?” Michelle asked childishly, looking at Robin on the bed with a worried face

“Yes he’ll be” Carolyn replied hopefully, all this while, Susan has been smiling

“If I die, I won’t die in vain” she thought…

They can suddenly hear footsteps coming in in the living room, before they can have time to think of pulling out, Stella came in with a dangerous look on her face

Rico quickly pulled out and pulled up his tr.ousers that’s beneath his legs

Kat covered her thing with her blouse

Stella smiled sternly before crossing her arms on her chest

“So… this is the help you came to offer huh?, Sharing what I eat with me, and you think you’ll go Scot free?, No dear” she said, dipping her hand into her bag

” S-lady you need to calm down, we were just… doing things” Rico said

” Of course you were doing things, and who says you can’t continue? But you can go meet her in heaven and continue” Stella said and pulled the trigger, she shot Kat down on the forehead

Rico looked at Kat’s body and smiled, “so you wasted her huh?’ he said, facing Stella again

” You should be following her but your luck is that you still have a lot of thing to do to me, but your punishment for this is still coming… dispose her off and meet me in my room” she said, going upstairs

” Dmn!” Rico ranted

“mummy Susan, Valerie, you guys should go home we’ll stay here” Philip said, facing them

” Go home when two lives are in danger?” Susan said

*Mum just listen to him, you need to rest cos you look tired, Valerie please take her home” Melanie said dryly

Susan inhaled before deciding to give in. “Ok daughter, I’ll make sure to come early tomorrow morning, take care” she replied as Valerie left with her

Everyone is in unconsolable sadness

“Valerie you forgot to shut the door” Susan said when they got home and she made to enter without shutting the door

“Oh, I’m sorry mummy” she replied and went to shut it

“When I’m gone, don’t make such mistakes, who knows who might come in?” Susan said

” Are you going somewhere?, You’ve been behaving strange these days” Valerie said

Susan smiled and went closer to her, ” I know Zayn will wake up soon, take care of your dad Valerie, take care of yourself too, be strong like Melanie, I’m sure she’ll overcome what she’s going through, she has always been victorious, and I hope your lost love will come back to you, I know you both will meet again, I’m wishing you a sweet wedding ahead…. and Melanie, I hope her wedding gets fruitful soon, I hope you’ll be able to live your life to the fullest and become a brilliant doctor like you’ve always dreamt of becoming” Susan said, looking intently at Valerie

“Mum…

Susan hugged her immediately

” Take care of yourself when I’m gone” she said

“Are you traveling?” Valerie asked confusedly

” Yes, I’m traveling” Susan replied

“Where to?’

” You’ll know tommorow” Susan replied

They went to bed after they both ate a slice of bread each though Susan barely touched hers, she kssed Valerie on the forehead before going into her room

She sat in front of the mirror and wiped her makeup with wipes, her pale face became revealed and her white eyes, as white as if she has no blood

Yeah, that’s how an untreated pancreatic cancer patient should look like, it’s really pancreatic cancer

When she went for test a month ago, she was told she has just a month to live cos it has passed the treatable stage, and since then, she has been preparing for death

She smiled at herself and eventually started crying silently

“My daughters” she lamented sadly

“Dwayne” Valerie thought as she sat still in the living room, kssing her bracelet

She kssed her bracelet countless times and found herself smiling but it soon turned to tears

Dwayne is gone, Leo is unconscious, Robin has just three days to find a donor, Melanie and Philip are sad, Stella is out there and no one knows what she might pull next

“I found out my son is in the hospital, we just have to find a way and plan to get him in the hospital” Stella said after several rounds with Rico as usual

“Really?, Then this time let’s plan carefully, it must not fail ” Rico replied

” I’ll just have to pay one of the interns to do the job, I know just what to do” Stella replied, lightening a cigar

” So what’s my punishment for banging Kat?” Rico asked

” You’ll get to know soon, trust me” she replied

Next morning**

Valerie entered Susan’s room and her eyes w¡dened at how her face looked like

“Mum your face!” She almost scre-med, kneeling beside her

Susan smiled faintly

“It’s fine, guide me to the living room”

“Mum you’re…

” Valerie, please obey” she replied, she gave her another glance before helping her up from the bed

She guided her to the living room and it’s only now she knows how much weight she lost, her sides feels thin a lot

She made her sit on the couch and stood in front of her

“Mum you don’t look ok” she said, holding her hand

“I’m ok, you don’t have to worry, just go in,side the kitchen and cook anything, I’m hungry” Susan said

” Mum you’ll eat my food?, Ion know how to cook” she replied confusedly

“Just make anything, even if it’s omelette” she replied, smiling wryly

Valerie rushed to the kitchen and made omelette, it’s ready in less than ten minutes, she dished it and placed it on the dinning table before going to help her up

She took her to the dinning room and made her sit before handing the fork to her, Susan’s hand is shaking as she took it

“Mum…

” Mum is fine, stop worrying” she interrupted and started eating slowly

” You know you and Melanie are the most pretty wonderful daughters one could ever ask for right?” She said

Valerie nodded, still in confusion

“So I want you both to get over me as soon as possible” she replied as she ate the third bite of the omelette

” What!”

” Yes Valerie, my time is up…but I won’t die in vain, my heart will be useful for Rob, always remember that…I love you both” she replied and the fork fell off her hand, small blood escaped the corner of her l-ips

She’d have fallen too but Valerie quickly caught her limp body as the blood flushed down her chin

“Mum!, Mum!!, Mummy!!!, Mummy please!!!” She scre-med in hot tears before remembering ambulance is still in existence

She dialled the emergency line and they came in a jiffy , she was taken away and Valerie followed the ambulance to the hospital, almost crying her eyes out in the hospital

“Mum!, Valerie what’s wrong with mum!, Mum!” Melanie scre-med as Susan was taken into the emergency unit again

” She’s… she’s….I dunno!” Valerie replied, sitting on the floor…

Melanie who was just stopping her tears Started crying again

“Not now!!!, Nothing should happen to mum!, Nothing should happen to her!’ she scre-med and it was Philip holding her though that seems Impossible cos she kept removing her hand from his grip and sitting on the floor

“No mum you have to live!!” She scre-med again

Over thirty minutes, the doctors are still in with her

Melanie’s phone suddenly rang but this is not the time to pick calls, it was Philip who picked it and after picking it, he sighed, not knowing weather to be happy or sad

“It’s from survivors hospitals… Melanie your dad is awake” he said

Melanie and Valerie spranged up and at the same time, the emergency unit door opened, the doctors came out with a sorry look on their faces

“I’m sorry” I’m of them said

“She has been battling with pancreatic cancer for more than six months now, it’d have been better if she treated it at the treatable stage before getting to the untreatable stage, her pancreas are damaged and….

“And what?, Just say it quick!” Melanie demanded impatiently

” You need to take heart madam and everyone cos….we lost her” the doctor said slowly..

Melanie felt as if all her bones were extracted from her limbs, she fell weakly and Philip quickly caught her

Valerie fell against the wall

“No!!!!, Mum!!!!!’ she scre-med loudly, holding her head

Melanie freed herself from Phil and rushed into the ward

Seeing the body covered with a white clothe, her body went cold as if dipped into the freezer

She slowly uncovered the face just to confirm and it’s really her mum, lying dead on the bed lifelessly

It felt like the air she breaths went into extinction and she feels out of air immediately, she fell heavily

“Bring my mother back!, Bring my mother back please!!”
