One hot afternoon in the streets of Johannesburg, a British industrialist, Mr. Browns and his son Peter ride into the neighborhood in their new black Volkswagen car.
Both men sat in back of the car looking moody and silent. They had both endured an exhausting trip from England and were picked up by their driver from the port to take them straight to their villa but before they could get there, Mr. Brown decided to have a conversation with his son.

Brown ➡ I can’t believe you… Why Peter? Why?
.

Peter ➡ Father… Please don’t start.. I’m really not in the mood.
.

Brown ➡ Watch your mouth boy!! Why can’t you just act like any normal man? Your friends are all married and are now having kids.. They’re even going to war to serve their country which is a great honor.. You on the other hand are a different story.
Susan would have the the perfect wife for any man, she’s beautiful lovely and obedient but despite all this qualities, you dump her just days to your wedding 👰, I couldn’t send you off to war because your mother wouldn’t forgive me if I did.. Tell me Peter, what do you to do with your life?

Peter ➡ Look father, Susan is a slag! I can’t marry a woman that is so common and too friendly with strange men and as for War I have no passion in it. War destroys things and brings unhappiness. Life has more meaning than just fighting.

Brown ➡ (sighs) Why are you so stubborn? This war is for survival not glory! And the men meeting with Susan are just her cousins.

Peter ➡ Cousins?? Really? Since when a French man become her cousin?
.

Brown ➡ What are you talking about?
..

Peter ➡ Before we planned for this trip.. I caught her in,side another man’s car and it turns out her companion is a French man. Father, I’m not a child and I’m also not stupid. I don’t care how beautiful she looks.. I will not marry her!
.

Brown ➡ What about the baby she’s carrying in her womb? It’s yours.
.

Peter ➡ NO!… I won’t be cheated. That offspring is not mine. She’s been hanging around with too many candidates.. I won’t father a child with I’m not even sure is mine.
.

Brown ➡ Your accusations and assumptions won’t change a thing.. Her parents demand you wed their daughter! They have proof that shows the child is really yours.
.

Peter ➡ It’s all fabrications and lie.. I won’t fall for such scam.. I won’t be forced to marry that b–tch.
.

Brown ➡ Peter!! You’re getting out of hand.. It’s time to listen to reason.
.

Peter ➡ I’ve had enough of this… DRIVER, STOP THE CAR!
.

In that same moment, The driver hits the brakes and stops the car and as soon as he does that, Peter gets out of the car and begins to walk away, His father calls him but he ignores him and keeps walking away.

After getting away from his annoying father, Peter roams through the streets of Johannesburg absentmindedly. His mind soon wanders off as he begins to think about his friends back home in England 🇬🇧, he misses everyone back at home but because of the pressure that was weighing on him, He does to vacate to his father’s villa here in South Africa to get away from all those issues and find some peace of mind.
Suddenly , Peter accidentally bumps into Marian who was carrying some vegetables in her basket. The load falls from her hands and scatters all over the ground.

Marian ➡ I’m so sorry sir… I didn’t mean to bump into you.
.

Peter ➡ No.. The fault is mine… I wasn’t watching where I was going.. Here let me help you.
.

Marian ➡ It’s okay.. I can manage.
.

Peter ➡ Please I insist.
.

Despite Marian’s objections, Peter lowers himself down and helps Marian put the vegetables into her basket and in the process of doing that, their hands touch one another and their eyes met.
Peter parts his mouth slightly as he stares at Marian with love and admiration, He didn’t care about her color, all he cared about was her beauty. Marian who was surprised that a white stranger was staring at her began to get a little scared and worried.

Marian ➡ Is everything okay sir?
.

Peter ➡ Huh.. Uh. Yes.. I… What’s your name?.
.

Marian ➡ Marian.
.

Peter ➡ Marian… My God, you’re beautiful.
.

Marian ➡ (shocked) WHAT?
.

Peter ➡ Uh.. I meant you’re fine and good looking… Pardon me please.. My name is Peter Brown. May I ask where you leave?
.

Marian ➡ I’m sorry sir.. I have to leave.. I’m in a bit of a hurry.
.

Peter ➡ By all means.. But can you tell me where you leave.. So that I can pay you a visit sometime.
.

Marian ➡ I’m sorry sir.. I’m afraid I can’t and you’re wasting your time on me.. Please forget about me. Good bye sir.
.

Peter ➡ Hey.. WAIT! MARIAN!
.

Despite calling out to her, Marian ignores him and walks away in a hurry without turning back. Peter stands and stare after her until she disappears out of sight, he smiles to himself and then walks away.
Peter knew in his heart that he had fallen for this African beauty and he would like to know more about her.

Meanwhile, Marian who was a few kilometers away home thought about her encounter with the white stranger she met. She needed nobody to tell her that she has an admirer but what surprised her was the words that was said to her.
She didn’t want to believe that her European admirer falling for her but the look on his face and the sincerity of his words proved his intentions. She too would love to get acquainted with him but she was afraid of being mocked and ridiculed plus she wouldn’t time to get hang out with her admirer due to her busy schedule as the head of the servant in the honey farm house. Just as Marian was a few steps from the farm house, She was rudely intercepted by one of her old rejects, Green snake Elias.

Green snake Elias is the son of greedy constable that got killed in the heat of War world 1 and he’s now following in his father’s footsteps.
Elias is widely known for his crooked behavior and manners. He’s a pathological liar, hypocrite and a renowned back stabber who always betrays people when things seem to get tense or out of control. Nobody trusts him not even the animals, the dogs always seem to bark at him whenever he passes towards their direction. Just like Luan’s friend Jeremiah, Elias hid himself so that he wouldn’t be forced to join the war and when the men were out in the fields fighting in blood and mud, Elias would use their absence as an opportunity to sleep with their women.
On a normal circ-mstances, The women wouldn’t bring themselves to sleep with an ape like Elias cause he was as ugly his as reputation but after being bribed heavily by the lecherous lout, they just couldn’t hesitate to open their legs for him.
Elias did have a good time but his ultimate target was Marian, not only did he lust for her but he was also madly in love with her. He had approached her many times often with gifts 🎁 but she had always him time and time again.
So after intercepting Marian, Elias stood in front of her smiling like an ape who had came across a heap of bananas ; his yellowish saliva sticky teeth was exposed and he had a hideous gape tooth. Despite how clean his constable attire was, his body wasn’t tidy. His hair was messed up and he had a small pimple puss coming out on the left side of his cheek, not to mention the stinky smell coming from him like someone that hadn’t bath for 2 days. After feasting his eyes on the lovely beauty in front of him, Elias cleared his throat and expressed himself.

Elias ➡ Marian.. You look fine.
.

Marian ➡ 😒 Constable.. What do you want?
.

Elias ➡ What’s with the cold reception? Don’t you know my name?
.

Marian ➡ No I don’t.
.

Elias ➡ Come on Marian… Don’t be like this huh? ( tries to touch her)
.

Marian ➡ Don’t even dare lay your filth hands on me.. DON’T!
.

Elias ➡ Why Marian? Why? Why ate you being so cold towards me? I’ve always been nice to you. Why can’t we just get along huh?
.

Marian ➡ Look Elias… I don’t want anything to do with you. It’s not a must that we must be talking to each other.
.

Elias ➡ Come on… Every other lady wants to be my friend.. Why can’t you?
.

Marian ➡ Well, I’m not like them.. I don’t want anything to do with you, I have important things to attend to rather than being with a man like you.
.

Elias ➡ (chuckles) Oh Marian… You’re just playing hærd to get.. Look, let me get straight to the point.. I love you.. You may not believe it but it’s true.. Be my woman and I’ll ease your burden in life.. I have money. You don’t need to work as a servant anymore.
.

Marian ➡ Listen to me fool ! I don’t care about your feelings towards me… I’d rather be a lonely for the rest of my life than be with a womanizer like you… I also don’t need your money.. Let me ask you a question.. Do I look like I’m in need of money or do I look like I’m suffering? I don’t need your rescuing, I’m happy with my life as a servant and I’m sure it’s going to be a wh0le lot better than the one you’re planning to have with me.. Better go and look for some cheap lady.. Your presence irks me.

Infuriated by Marian’s words, Elias grabs hold of her arm and begins to yell at her, but before things could get out of hand, Elizabeth comes to her servants rescue.

Elias ➡ You arrogant B–tch! Just because you’re enjoying your petty life under a colonialist doesn’t mean you can look down on me and talk to me any how. You think you’re special? You’re nothing but a black pig just like the rest of us.. Don’t worry.. Time is coming when the colonialist will be sent home to their lands.. Let’s see how you’re going to do with your empty life.

Elizabeth ➡ UNHAND THE LADY, BRUTE!
.

Marian ➡ Ms. Elizabeth!?
.

Elizabeth ➡ Is everything alright?
.

Elias ➡ Of course.. We’re just having a chat madam (let’s go of Marian)
.

Elizabeth ➡ Good! Turn around and walk away now.. As an officer, you should know that you’re trespassing on my property and you’re harassing my employee.. If I ever see you hear, I’ll make sure you’re dealt with.. Am I making myself clear?
.

Elias ➡ Absolutely madam.. I’ll be going now.
.

Feeling embarrassed and afraid, Elias walks away shamefully without looking back, and as soon as he was gone, Elizabeth and Marian began to talk.

Elizabeth ➡ What was that all about?
.

Marian ➡ Nothing ma.. He’s just bothering me.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Well, he won’t be bothering you anytime soon. I was worried when I realized you return early.
.

Marian ➡ I’m sorry ma.
.

Elizabeth ➡ It’s alright.. I want you into my room and iron my clothes that are laid out on the bed and I want you to prepare a little refreshment in this basket..

Marian ➡ What’s the occasion ma?
.

Elizabeth ➡ That’s none of your concern.. Just do as I tell you and if you see your brother, tell him not to be late.

🐞 LUAN 🐞

I’ve done many crazy things before but none of them could be compared to this one. Asking Ms. Elizabeth out on a date was definitely the most craziest thing I’ve ever done and the most surprising thing was that, she accepted.
There’s no doubt that I was in love in with her but I never dared in my mind to ask her out and the reason for this suicidal attempt was because of my friend Jeremiah.
Earlier that afternoon, we were both drinking and boasting about a lot of things when he made a statement that belittled my courage as a man. Jeremiah boasted that I wouldn’t be able to ask Ms. Elizabeth out and in my attempt to prove to him that I could, I made huge bet with him and went back to the farm house.
Just as I was about to reach there, I realized what I did and I began to regret my actions.. I could have canceled the idea but the bet I made with Jeremiah was too huge and there was no going back on it, so I decided to take the leap and ask the lovely Scottish out.
Elizabeth was sitting in her front porch when I showed up into the farm house, She was reading a novel and the dress she wore that afternoon made her look so divine. I stared at her in a trance gawking at her beauty when our eyes met, I quickly adjusted myself and decided to look for a suitable way of inviting her out on a date without getting rejected or fired.

Luan ➡ Good afternoon… Ms. Elizabeth, you look radiant as always.
.

Elizabeth ➡ (blushing) Thank you Luan! Come out of the sun. It’s quite bright today.
.

Luan ➡ Of course..
.

I went over to her place and sat opposite her on the porch, We said nothing after that, Elizabeth continued reading her book, while I sat thinking of a way to ask her out. The situation was making me feel so tense that I began to sweat, it was after a while I finally figured out how to ask the Scottish beauty out.

Luan ➡ What’s that book you’re reading?
.

Elizabeth ➡ Excuse me?
.

Luan. ➡ The book in your hand.. What’s its called?
.

Elizabeth ➡ Merchant of Venice. It’s a Shakespeare play.
.

Luan ➡ I see.. I too read Shakespeare plays..
.

Elizabeth ➡ Really? Which one.
.

Luan ➡ Hmm.. Let’s see. Othello.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Ahh.. Othello. I’ve read it too.. It’s a wonderful play.
.

Luan ➡ Yes.. It’s such a shame it ended in tears though.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Where did you read it?
.

Luan ➡ Mr. Toby read it to me when we were in the wars.. He always reads books to me.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Reading books can be quite fun.
.

Luan ➡ Yes.. But haven’t you done enough of that? I’ve noticed you’ve spent your time reading.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Well, that’s the only thing I can do to occupy my time.
.

Luan ➡ Well, I do know something that will keep you entertained.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Really? What is it?
.

Luan ➡ Well, there’s this place I know.. It’s lovely, you’ll love it.. With your permission I could take you there… You’re going to have quite a good time.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Are you asking me out?
.

Luan ➡ Well, let me just say I’m just trying to give you a good time.
.

Elizabeth ➡ That’s nice but I don’t go to pubs or night gatherings..
.

Luan ➡ Oh.. I wasn’t talking about pubs.. I would never take a woman there. This place I’m going to take you to is special. You’ll love it.
.

Elizabeth kept quiet and stared at me, it was like she was trying to understand my motives behind all this. I stood as calmly as I could hoping that this would all turn out well, and after a brief moment, Elizabeth gave her answer.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Okay Luan.. I’ll go with you. I just hope this place will be as good as you say it is.
.

Luan ➡ You won’t be disappointed Milady.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Alright when are we going to leave?
.

Luan ➡ 5:00 pm.
.

Elizabeth ➡ Okay then.. I’ll be waiting.. Don’t disappoint me.
.

Luan ➡ I won’t.
.

And that was it… All of this happen about 3 hours ago, I still couldn’t believe the fact that I was going to take Elizabeth out on a date… Honestly, I preferred going to the pub with her but I then remembered that the pub too a racial policy, Whites had their own section and the blacks too had their own section.
Going to the pub would have been a bad idea cause I wouldn’t be allowed to hang around the whites section. So since The Pub idea was out, I decided to take Elizabeth somewhere were we could both enjoy each other’s company and if things go smoothly, I might just have her around my strong arms.

So later that afternoon, here I was in Toby in our house trying out some clothes that would be suitable for my date with Elizabeth. Toby is a good dresser and he has quite a good taste in clothes, if anyone could get me ready for a date, it was him . So after an hour of trying on variety of clothes, I finally found the right outfit, it was a nice plain shirt and a coat together a with brown trouser and shoes to match.

Luan ➡ My goodness.. I look good, don’t I?
.

Toby ➡ Of course.. You look like those European chaps that shine shoes. (Laughs)
.

Luan ➡ Keeping laughing.. I’m the one going out on a date not you.
.

Toby ➡ I still can’t believe she agreed to go with you.
.

Luan ➡ You’d better believe it.
.

Toby ➡ Well.. Good luck my boy. Have a good time.
.

Luan ➡ I hope so.
.

Toby ➡ I’m sure you she’s married right?
.

Luan ➡ Yes so.?
.

Toby ➡ Well, you’ll never guess who her husband is
.

Luan ➡ Who is he?
.

Toby ➡ You’re going to be late for your date.
.

Luan ➡ I still have enough time.
.

Toby ➡ Well, have a seat.. What I’m about to tell you is going to shock you…
