Audrey was busy making her mum’s dinner when Deborah walked in with some groceries in her hand. “So how did you escape that witch?” she asked as she walked.
Audrey’s Pov👇
Deborah has been working with us for a very long time; she knows everything about my family and she also knows about Senior Dora. I guess I shouldn’t have told her I saw Dora in school today because she never want to hear about Dora and now she’s already aware that we are in the same university again. “Deborah, don’t worry I managed myself to get away from her” I said. “Audrey make sure to be safe, take care of yourself from that witch please” Deborah said to me. She has always been that caring and concerned about me; God knows that without her in this house I would have ended everything. “Of course I will take care of myself from her” I said with a smile. “So how is your new friend? Do you like her, and how is her attitude?” Deborah asked me, I knew she won’t let things go easily. “Deborah she is cool and friendly” I replied her trying to focus on what am cooking. “I’m so glad you made your first friendsh¡p, please be good” she said and gave me a warm hug. We both quickly released Each other from the hug to prepare dinner.
I set the dining table for my Dad even though he doesn’t eat what I cook. I took my mum’s food to her room. I was glad she sat down peacefully on her bed. She gave out a faint smile as usual. My Mum has gone through a lot; I don’t know if she’s been punished for choosing my dad, of course mum didn’t choose him; she was forced to marry him. All that matter is that I want her to stand back on her feet again; I really want her to leave this house with me, but on her feet. I know Dad won’t care if we leave the house for him; that is what he had wanted after all.
My mum is the reason why I’m living, if anything should happen to her, I don’t think I have anything left in this world then. I dropped the tray on her bed and then firstly gave her a warm hug, trying to make her sit comfortably. I was about feeding her when I felt her warm hands on my cheek. She smiled at me with tears running down her eyes; I dropped the spoon in the plate. “Mum why are you crying?” I asked, trying to hold back my own tears. “I understand how you feel mum, but we don’t have anyone; just you and i. I really want you to be strong for me; we can’t continue staying here forever. I want to leave here with you, I know you can’t leave now but one day you’ll stand on your feet and we will both leave here together; I love you mum” The tears I was trying to hold back streamed down, even though I promised myself not to cry in her presence anymore but not in this kind of situation. Even though she didn’t reply me she brought her hands to my face the second time, wiping my tears which were not ready to stop yet. I moved closer and gave her a tight hug, sobbing badly in her arms . . . .

I got back home after the club at around 11pm; as usual, I know Mr. Daniel will be waiting for me in the compound. I knew I had the fun today; I was surprised that Jay and his bf left already, he sent me a text message before leaving but I couldn’t see it then because I was busy. I and Kelvin left the club and I explained Jay’s message to him, we both planned to meet in school tomorrow before we left the club. I got down from my car and gave the car key to one of the boys to park the car at the garage. Mr. Daniel stared at me with his hands at his back, looking like those grumpy men. I gave him a big smile “I didn’t come late, so why are you giving me that strict face?” I said as I brushed passed him. I could sense him coming after me.
I met my Dad and mum in the living room cuddling each other. I don’t think they are aware that they are too old for this. . . “you can just go to your room” I said and threw myself on the soft sofa opposite them. “But this is my house, I can do what I want with my wife gentleman” My Dad said while I gave him a look of “are you kidding me”. He smiled back while my mum just stared at me. From the look on her face, I knew she had something to say to me. “Mum what?” I asked, taking out my phone from my pocket” You know you came back late” she said. “What! Mum are you kidding me right now, it’s just 11pm. . . . you know I don’t come back this early, if not for Mr. Daniel” I said and gave a quick glance at Mr. Daniel who sat at the dining table, ready to have his dinner probably, am sure he couldn’t eat because of me. “Prince! Your mum is right, the fact that you came back at 11pm doesn’t mean you came home early. You’re grown-up now, we can’t decide for you, but at least try to come home before or 10pm; yea 10 is ok” I don’t know if it’s my Dad really talking right now, he wants me to come back home by 10pm. like why would I do that? “For jeez sake I’m a grown-up man, Dad” I said on top of my voice. “Young man! Calm down, ok?” Dad called out “I’m not saying you’re not a grown-up man, but do you know Mama waited for you till 10pm and you know she’s not ok to stay up too long. You know her condition; she waited for you, your mum had to force her to go to sleep, and Daniel couldn’t eat dinner with us because of you. As you can see he is just eating. At least think about those who are waiting for you and try to be the best boy you are, I won’t say more than that” That is it! My dad knows how to get one soft with words. He stood up to go in; giving me a light pat at my back he walked in,side with my mum. I could feel the guilt rushing to me, is it the fact that I delayed Mr. Daniel, or mama sleeping late because of me? But I just want to have fun! I took a glance at Mr. Daniel who was busy eating his late dinner all because of me.
I stood up from the sofa and walked to the dining to have a seat with him. Dropping my phone on the table, I stared at him like a kid who just lost his favourite candy. He smiled at me and I had to return it immediately. He took a plate and got me some rice and stew, adding more stew I had to stop him from putting much of it. He got me some beefs in a different plate and we both ate in silence. I assisted him with the plates since the maids were asleep. He washed the dishes while I rinsed and cleaned them. After we finished everything, we both walked back to the living room, sitting beside each other. “You don’t need to feel guilty; at least you didn’t really return that late unlike before. I know you can do more than that” He said with a big grin on his face and I smiled back at him. I couldn’t stay any longer in the living room, since I am ready to sleep. I left him and went into my room but not without checking on Mama. Slowly, I opened her door and tiptoed in quietly; there she was sleeping peacefully. I knew she won’t spare me tomorrow morning. She is going to nag me for coming late, but I dare not sleep without seeing her face. Mama raised me from birth till now. She had been living with us before my mum gave birth to me; she is more than just a family; she is more of a blood. I gave her a soft k-ss on her cheek and walked out of her room quietly, closing the door without making any sound. I got back to my room, took off all my outfits to have a quick shower. I opened the water and let it through my dreadlocks for a while. Not long, I was done with my shower and came out of the bathroom unclad; I forgot to bring along my towel. I went to my wardrobe, took out a towel and dried myself. Then I quickly changed into one of my pajamas; I dare not t-rn on the AC because of Mama. I opened my window for fresh air and played a solemn song (Abyss by Jin) putting it on repeat; I can’t really sleep without music. Jumping into my bed without wasting any minute, I was drifted to dreamland . . . . .
My music was turned off and I wondered who could have the audacity to turn off the song, then it popped to my mind – Mama! Taking off the blanket from my face there she was, standing with her hands at akimbo; she won’t stop being adorable. “Who said you can give me a goodnight k-ss” Oh! so she saw me yesternight….funny her, I thought to myself. “Morning Mama” I said and tried covering myself with blanket but the blanket flew from me – it’s Mama again, disturbing my precious sleep. “Mama please. . . my lecture is 2pm and I really want to sleep, this is still 11am. Mama please, allow me get some more sleep, please?” I pleaded hoping she will just leave and allow me to sleep, but Mama doesn’t give up that easily. She stood there staring at me with my blanket in her hand; heaven knows I’m not safe this morning. I stood up from the bed, got closer to her and planted a short k-ss on her forehead. “Morning Love” I muttered and carried myself straight to the bathroom to wash up.

It’s been a week since I saw Dora last, and I’m trying my possible best to avoid her. Tina is not in school today and I don’t know why; we chatted last night on whatsapp and she didn’t say anything to me about not being in school today. I sat alone at a corner waiting for the next lecturer to walk in. Not long, a tall man walked in who I assumed to be the lecturer. He introduced himself and so the lecture began.

Kelvin and I stood at the front of the school gate waiting for Jay who went to use the lavatory. We would be going to a birthday party with my car. I wasn’t going to be the one to drive but Kelvin, so I just sat next to him while Jay was to sit at the back. It’s been five minutes and Jay is not yet back. Just then, a car passed by us and there she is – my ex girl, Nadia.
Nadia and I had started dating when I was in 200 level but we later broke up in my 300 level. Our relationsh¡p and breakup was known to our parents. I won’t deny the fact that I love her when we were dating. Nadia was my first love though, but one thing is she’s not submissive, over-protective and always wants to boss me around because she is two years older than I am, maybe that’s why she acted that way then. Everyone who knows about our relationsh¡p thought I was older than her,but only our parents and close friends knew about our real age difference. I couldn’t continue with her attitude. The worst part of it was that I caught my babe with another guy making out in the clubhouse, not just any guy but a middle age man. I lost my sanity that day; we broke up and ended things peacefully and I’m glad I was able to move on quickly, and she never bothers me. She saw us standing while Kelvin quickly pointed her to me, “look at Nadia” He said “I saw her already” I muttered. “Wait a minute….is Jay giving birth or what?” Kelvin said looking so frustrated; I’m sure when Jay comes back, they will fight on that again. “I will check on him” I said and left the car to check on him. . . .

The lecturer asked about Tina and I had to tell him that she wasn’t feeling ok. Tina later sent me a message that she was having a slight headache this morning and she couldn’t make it to school. I was on my way to the lecturer’s office when I saw Dora and her two friends coming my way. I was both shocked and terrified at the same time that I quickly turned back to leave. “Audrey” I heard her calling my name and running towards me. I won’t allow Dora do the same thing she did to me in secondary school again, and the only thing I can do is to avoid her. I hastened up my pace, running towards where I would take a cab home. Suddenly I bumped into something. . . . .not something but someone. Expecting my fall I quickly shut my eyes, but before I could even land, someone grabbed me by my wa-ist. It took me few seconds to regain myself. Raising my head up to see who it was I was dumbfounded.
