CHAPTER SEVENTY FIVE: FAIRYTALE MOMENT

I looked at Jing, studying her more closely after waking up. She had lost a considerable amount of weight, and her pale complexion worried me. “How did I wake up?” I inquired, scanning the room.

Li-mu was kneeling at a distance, and Christina was nearby. Jing held my hand firmly, and her voice reassured me, “The key, I gave it back to you.”

I sat up abruptly. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”she mumble

But I couldn’t help my frustration. I turned to Li-mu, still bewildered by his actions. “I gave you one job, a simple job!”

Li-mu defended himself, “You were dying.”

My anger flared, “Why didn’t you let me die? What would have happened to Jing?”

“I am okay,” Jing interjected, her grip on my hand unyielding. She smiled reassuringly. “It’s all over now, I’m perfectly fine.”

I needed to know more. Turning to Christina, I inquired, “Tell me her state of mind. No lies, tell me exactly what happened.”

Christina spoke frankly, “She would have died if I had given you all of the key.”

“What do you mean?” Jing asked.

“You must have been feeling a slight pain in your chest, which is normal,” Christina explained. “Breaking the key in two would have meant that Muchen has half of his power, and you would still be alive. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.”

“Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?” Jing questioned.

“I wanted to see your reaction,” Christina admitted. “You two really love each other. Dying for one another is not something everyone can do. Some would call it surreal.”

“Thank you, Christina,” I responded with gratitude. “Thank you so much. I had no idea what I would have done if you left me.”

“I told you I’m not leaving you,” Jing reassured me. “You left me for a week.”

“Sorry,” I said, reaching to touch her cheek. “I’m never leaving you again.” Then, I turned to Li-mu, “Thank you.”

He smiled and stood up. “I hate to interrupt this loving gathering, but I have complaints about being Christina’s servant, so I will be leaving.”

I watched him go, a look of anger on Christina’s face. After some pressure, she used her magic to transport us back to the palace, to my chamber. Everybody was shocked by my return. Jing needed two days of rest, and she slept throughout.

Stepping into my chamber, I found Jing awake and reading a book. “You’re awake?”

“Yes,” she replied.

“What are you reading?” I asked, curious.

“How to kill my mother-in-law without consequences,” she quipped ” you know how queen dowager hate me? I just don’t get her….is it because I married her son ?”

” So what do you plan on doing? Divorce her son?”

” I think I will manage him for now ” she chuckle after dropping her book” I mean, he is just so wealthy ”

” You golddigger” I joke before tinkling her and just like that we are rolling in the bed, laughing….if anybody would have told me I will behave this way, I would have called them a huge lier.

” Stop it” she force the words out before Alexander barge into my chamber like some desperate hoe ” oh my god ” Jing gasp and I sit up

“What do you want, Alex?”

“Fang.”

“You mean your fiancée?”

“Indeed.”

“I completely forgot.”

“You bastard,” he growled, and I chuckled. “Take me to her.”

“Ask nicely, Alex.”

“Please,” he said, clenching his hands. I nodded.

“Alright.” I stood up and looked at Jing. “Would you like to see her?”

“No,” Jing smiled. “I’m better off if I don’t see her. I know why she acted that way.”

“Someone who has brains,” Alexander complimented, and I smiled.

“Very funny.” As I left my chamber, I pondered many things. Li-mu hadn’t returned to the palace, which only meant that Christina still held him captive. I wondered why she had chosen him. Was it simply to have someone to warm her bed? Either way, I should visit him soon.

I opened the door to the old castle, and there she was, seated calmly just like I had told her to. “No harm done to her, I’m not a monster…” But I was interrupted by Alexander rushing into Fang’s arms, and she cried. I smiled, realizing I wasn’t the only one in love.

“No, you aren’t,”I looked to the side and stared at Diamond. “I can no longer appear to Jing; she lost her powers.”

“Forgive me for that.”

She nodded. “Without magical fragrant in her, I have lost touch, but please, keep her alive.” Diamond pleaded, “Only then will I still have a lover.” With that, she vanished. I had no idea what she meant, but I was determined to keep Jing alive. There was no way I could live without her; she was everything to me.

Stepping back into my chamber, I watched as Jing’s eyes lit up. She is so beautiful and, more importantly, she is mine. “You do know this is my chamber, right?”

“Of course.”

“You’ve been sleeping here.” I feigned a frown, and she chuckled.

“I just like your scent,” she smiled before taking off her dress. “And surprising you.”

“I love surprises.” I didn’t need any more prompting. I took off my clothes, shut the door, and joined her on the bed.

EPILOGUE

“Oh no, don’t do that!” Jing yelled at the top of her voice. Being pregnant was not easy anymore, and she was tired of the constant nagging.

“If Alexander stopped being such an idiot, maybe this day would get better!” Muchen yelled in response. In the kitchen, I frowned. After becoming pregnant, I had asked Muchen to move us out of the palace. I didn’t want to spend this month surrounded by people who seemed determined to harm my child.

“Maybe you could just leave him in the living room and help me out here!” I retorted.

“Incoming!” Muchen yelled back, and I rolled my eyes. Fang stepped into the kitchen, and I smiled.

“I could help,” she offered.

“You shouldn’t,” I mumbled, looking at her. “You’re pregnant. Sorry I couldn’t come for your marriage.”

“It’s fine,” she smiled. Fang had always been kind and treated me like her older sister. “It’s not good to move with your pregnancy.”

“Thanks. You should wait outside; I’m almost done,” I told her. She nodded. “Tell the king to head over.”

“I will do,” she replied then chuckle.

Seconds later, Muchen entered, looking angry. Once again, Alexander must have angered him. They were like cat and rat.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing in particular,” he said as he shut the door. “I’d still prefer if you didn’t call them over for dinner.”

“But it’s Christmas,” I pouted. “Li-mu and Christina are running late.”

“I don’t complain about them,” Muchen admitted.

“Because you prefer Li-mu to Alex.”

“But you still invited them,” he frowned. I kissed his cheek, making him smile. “That can make everything be forgiven.” He leaned close and kissed my lips, pulling me closer. By the time he pulled away, he swore, “If these people weren’t here, I’m sure I would have ravished you.”

I blushed. “Don’t say that.”

“I mean it,” he replied, looking at me with unbroken eye contact. “You really look beautiful tonight.”

“Muchen…”

“I mean it.”

“I’m just fat.”

He frowned. “Don’t say that. You are beautiful and holding my baby. Obviously, you need to eat to keep him or her alive, and trust me,” his hand moved to my lower lip, “that makes you more beautiful.”

“And you’re handsome,” I smiled. He gave me one more kiss before the knock alerted us.

“Must be Li-mu. The food is ready.”

“Let me help.”

After dinner, we all sat down, laughing and talking about our lives. It was fun to see all of us happy again, no more complications, no sadness. We were just enjoying life. Li-mu tried to run away from Christina, but each time she kissed him, he reciprocated with kindness. What was he hiding?

My gaze moved to Muchen, who held my hand and pulled me out of the living room. They didn’t even notice. We walked into our chamber, shut the door, and moved toward the balcony.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I just remembered the first time you kissed me and woke me up from a deep slumber. I’m glad it was you, Jing. Everything we’ve been through was worth it,” he said as he touched my stomach.

“Muchen?”

“Listen, Jing,” he continued, stepping closer. “I will forever love you. I don’t think I can ever live without you.” He smiled as tears welled up in my eyes. “I love you.” He whistled, and a bird brought a rose. I smiled at the sight of it. “Just something small.”

“I love it,” I said, taking the rose and inhaling its scent. “I love you, Muchen. You’re my deepest obsession.”

“Merry Christmas, Jing,” he whispered.
