โœ๏ธ CHAPTER TITLE โœ๏ธ: NATURE CHEATED BY MAKING YOU A MAN.

“God doesn’t make everything equal and easy to detect the evils that lie in them. Some people exist in our lives because God assigned them into our lives to make the journey blossom,”

“Likewise, some are with us just to see and celebrate our downfall,” Vera spoke with pure intention.

Damien didn’t know what the butler was pointing at with his words, but he didn’t mind hearing him out.

“We have people who would be in our lives and wouldn’t add any value to it. Rather, they would snatch the value that we already possessed from us,”

“I know it’s painful to witness the source of your sadness and discomfort progressing. Because all that would be on your mind is to hurt them back, to make them feel your pain,”

“But master Damien, allowing hatred to rule your judgment towards them will not allow you to make the right decision,”

“You don’t have to be the worst version of your point before you would share their potion of wickedness with them, because while you are busily nurturing the hatred, the evil-doer would plan something bigger than their first attack.”

“And it’s not in all the cases that revenge works. Sometimes it backfires on us and makes us regret trying it,”

“Adjusting our space and setting things apart with them could even bring us a greater revenge.”

“Keeping a big distance between you and the enemy, or forgetting about their existence would be of help too because they wouldn’t stop being evil if you’re close to them,”

“I’m not close to her. I’ve trashed her existence since five years ago. All I want is to make her suffer and that will bring back happiness for me.” Damien had interrupted her words to say.

“I know you will feel at ease if you do that. But master Damien, your happiness lies in finding one for yourself and not by expecting it to come from your enemy’s downfall, because it may not happen soon,” Vera acknowledged.

“Annabel explained few things about the painful things that the ma’am did to your family but-,”

“Call her by her evil name. There was no need to respect her.” Damien reprimanded off again.

Vera sighed tiredly, but she continued her words anyway. All Damien’s reaction was expected.

“She’s feeling like a winner already because you possessing the hatred of women in you, would be like a win to her. Since her bad deeds succeeded in killing a sensitive part of you,” she noticed Damien’s shoulder dropping a little after he heard that from her.

He raised his eyebrows in thought, as everything the butler was saying kept on pointing to the errors that he had failed to realize by himself.

“The two genders that exist are equally evil. But some of them are pure and never want to hurt anyone,”

“Because she hurt you doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of the privilege and happiness that lies in other women, because they are not her.”

“She caused you pain, but it can be mended without you vacating their existence in your life. Even when it’s obvious that many of them would die for you,”

“But since you’ve vacated their presence, how would you heal and let any woman help you, master Damien?” She asked but he couldn’t reply.

Damien stayed mute. When she saw him not replying, she continued. “A villain would always get punished. So there was no reason to kill your sweet self because a sinner reaped you of some moment of joy,”

“People will judge you for doing wrong to yourself because it’s not everyone that will realize their mistakes. And you can’t ignore their misunderstanding because, in one way or the other, it would affect you.”

“You are the one to give yourself the best consolation after realizing your pain. You will help yourself heal from it. And during the process, you should give yourself the chance to move away from the memories that come along with the pain,” She paused to check if he wanted to say something, since his silence was starting to scare her, but his expression encouraged her to continue.

“I know you’re a good person, Master Damien,” Vera said and that was where he decided to speak.

“I’m a good person!? You’ve forgotten all the wrongs I did to you? I’m not a good person.” Damien outrightly said.

“You are a good person Master Damien. I’m sure you didn’t purposely do them. You did it to relieve yourself of the pain and the price you had to pay for being cold-hearted,” she replied to him, and by herself, she saw him nodding his head in agreement.

It was not a lie. Damien buried his instinct but they didn’t entirely die. He sometimes feels restless when he’s being cold to people.

There was a relief that comes to him, whenever he behaved out of his cold self.

“You gave way for your heart to satisfy your happiness just for the sake of revenge. It wasn’t worth it Master Damien, you could have handled it better than this,” she scolded him tenderly.

“The sweetest part of you is always there. It will gain you more trust than you will ever imagine if you give it the chance to.”

“Don’t embrace the voice that kept on whispering to your ears, that you should be cold-hearted, because it’s evil,”

“Listen to the sweet part of you that wants the human side of you, master Damien. Please have a change of mind about everything and embrace the best part of you, which is you being sweet and kind.”

“Your positive change would bring about happiness for everyone around you. Since Annabel and Master Caleb don’t want you to be cold-hearted, they would be happy to meet the positive you,”

“I’m sure you also missed the moments of you being everything good in life. That moment without hatred in your heart,”

“I’m pleading and requesting for you to allow that part of you to surface again and stay forever because I want everything to be in place before leaving,”

“I want to see Annabel feeling wholeheartedly happy. I want you to be happy. Hearing good news about you after I’ve gone would be a great thing for me,” Vera’s words kept on dropping one after another. She doesn’t mind how many words she has used and how long it’s taking for her to explain everything to him.

She just wants her words to be confusing enough for Damien to realize how sweet his life would be without the coldness in his heart.

“Please master Damien, you can solve all the problems while you’re in the best interest with yourself.” She pleaded with sincerity. Coughing lightly, because she had to make use of a male voice for a longer period and her throat had dried up.

Realizing that the butler had finished speaking, while he let his words sink into his reasoning.

The butler’s words did make him understand what he failed to realize about himself. They were confusing enough for him to see the Injustice he had done to himself by being cold.

Damien’s sanity was been shaken by the butler’s words. He was caught unaware by the butler’s request at the end of his words.

The butler mentions how everyone would be happy if he stopped being cold-hearted and that is true.

Disguise wanting to ensure that Annabel would be safe after he has gone showed how much affection he has for his sister. He truly holds Annabel close to his heart like she was his sister.

Disguise letting go of the pain and suffering Damien had inflicted on him, showed just how unfair Damien had been when it came to having a forgiving spirit.

Damien had hurt him severely, but he still chose to forgive him. The butler kept on rooting Damien for good and didn’t allow Damien’s past action to stop him from serving the family righteously.

Even though he could leave and stop bothering about their well-being, he still didn’t do that.

The butler’s action came as an example to back up all the points he had given to Damien. But no one can judge the other right, unless you’re in their shoes.

“You want me to stop being cold-hearted!?” Damien murmured, but Vera knew that it was a question for her to answer.

“Yes, master Damien.” Vera respectfully replied. Her eyes moved from Damien’s sight to see the driver’s back leaning on the car, where he stood outside the car.

“What should I do to myself if I stop being cold-hearted? Thinking about changing alone seems boring and unwanted because I can’t let Crystal go without receiving her punishment,” Damien expressed.

The butler had rubbed salt on his wound and it had pained him terribly. But if the salt could help it heal or not, can the butler ever understand what it means for your body to hold a scar forever???

Vera sighed, but she didn’t say anything. It wasn’t that she didn’t have an answer to his question, it was just that she feared Damien being mad at her.

“You don’t have anything to say? Was speaking what was on my mind after you gave me reasons why I should stop being cold offensive to you?” Damien questioned.

“I have no words to say about what you will do with yourself after you’ve changed master Damien. But I believe that the joy of seeing Annabel being pleased with your decision will give you the feeling that will satisfy you,” Vera simply replied and she didn’t fail to notice the softness that his eyes suddenly held.

Damien’s expression became soft. His eyes held so much emotion that he didn’t see himself fit enough to let out.

The butler knows the right word that he can use to get into him. Damien would do anything for Annabel. He might have forgotten about Crystal if she had hurt him and not Annabel.

No one aside from himself could understand the level of love that he has for Annabel. Annabel was a precious gift that came to him when he had thought that he would spend his life alone as the only child.

Damien had wished and hoped to have a sibling who was a girl. It was like his prayers left his mouth and went to God’s hearing because Annabel came into his life.

Forgiving the one who tried to snatch his bundle of joy away from him gave him the reason to be this cold-hearted and he never bothered about it. All through the years that Annabel was in a coma, that was the only way of getting consolation for himself.

The first time he regretted being cold-hearted, it was because he scared Annabel with it. He saw his world crumbling before him when Annabel had a seizure and it almost led her to being in a coma again.

It took a lot for him to get over that and he had adjusted his ways. He limited how he spoke and acted whenever Annabel was around.

Just that, it was difficult hiding a part of you that you’ve accommodated with you for years. He failed brutally in faking his kindness and made Annabel cry so much because of his cold heart again.

Damien felt incapable, but there was no how he could help himself. The hatred that always ignites the coldness would not leave his life if he hadn’t fulfilled his desire of watching Crystal die a miserable death.

Damien thought that everything would not feel right if he didn’t end Crystal’s life. He just couldn’t resist the anger when Smith played with his emotion by threatening to kidnap Annabel.

Damien’s anger went feral again, and he failed to alert Annabel about his cold heart.

Damien stared narrowly at the butler who was biting his lips like a lady, even when he wasn’t. He must have been feeling nervous about Damien’s silence.

“I’ve heard you. I will do something about it. Would we get to discuss this before you leave?” Damien stretched his arms as he waited for the butler to reply.

“Yes, master Damien. Thank you for listening to me,” Vera smiled brightly as she felt fulfilled. It wasn’t bad speaking with Damien like she thought that it would be.

“Okay. I don’t say this often, and you’re the first person aside from my family to get it from me.” Damien made mention of it, and she wondered what he was trying to say, when Damien suddenly said, “Thank you, Disguise.”

Vera felt her heart skip a beat and her cherks instantly turning red. She just got an intended appreciation from Damien.

Damien seeing the butler smiling caused him to also giggle softly. The sincere happiness on the butler’s face was something that he would also love to have on his face.

“You smiling brightly like that showed that all that you’ve told meant a lot to you,” Damien pointed out.

He was right. His listening and not getting upset with her was a good thing. Damien doesn’t give such an opportunity to anyone, or even people around him, so if he gave it to her, it was because he finds her special.

“Tell me about your family… Do you have a younger sister like me?” Damien asked. The question came when she wasn’t expecting, but it didn’t bring her guard down.

“They are doing well. I don’t have a younger sister, Master Damien,” Vera replied calmly. She can’t consider Annabel as a younger sister, because they both shared the same placenta for birth.

Damien furrowed his brows in wonderment, then he asked, “Are you the only child?”

Vera chuckled, and then she said, “No Master Damien. I’m a twin, but I have a twin sister,”

“Oh!” Damien mouthed, and then he smiled faintly. It seems like Damien was enjoying his discussion with the jovial butler.

“How’s your sister then? Is she beautiful too??” Damien asked, and although it was surprising, Vera didn’t react to it. Rather, she chooses to make the conversation interesting with it.

“Yes master Damien, she’s really beautiful. But not close to my beauty,” Vera joked and was pleased when Damien chuckled again. That too was a rare sight of him, but she brought it out.

“I see… So are you trying to compete with her now?” Damien played along with her.

“I don’t have to compete, master Damien, it was quite obvious.” Vera gladly boasted.

Damien raised his arms harmlessly, “I can’t say. I’ve never met her, but I think you’re lucky to have a sister you can admit that you are finer than,” Damien stated.

“I always have to accept it to Annabel against my wish most times, that I’m ugly, while she’s a beauty goddess,” Damien kept a funny face while saying, but he had to laugh when the butler started laughing, although in a moderate manner. His laughter wasn’t irritating to Damien’s hearing.

“I don’t have the right words to express my thoughts about that, master Damien.” Vera truthfully said and Damien simply nodded his head.

On the true analysis, Damien might have been a man, but his handsomeness isn’t something to play with. Damien is all shades of charm. But Annabel didn’t escape being a beaut either.

Vera doesn’t want to make things awkward, so she avoids the topic of dictating who is the finest among the two siblings. But truthfully, Damien would always beat Annabel to it.

“I should hope that you won’t forget about us when you finally return to your family, right?” Damien’s tone was heavy.

He didn’t even hide the sadness that was laced in his voice when he said that. He wondered why he was just realizing the butler’s sweet act, days before he would leave.

He has been with them for three months, and this is the only time he gave himself the chance to discuss freely with him. The butler is a sweet person.

“I don’t know who will be massaging my head if you leave… Caleb would rather knock it than care for it,” Damien smiled faintly.

“Annabel will be sober, and I may not be able to give her any consolation word, because I will also be sad,” He expressed with his eyes roaming around the car.

“I will have to start making my coffee all again by myself because the only person who gets it right for me is going to leave,” another memory that made Vera want to shed a tear, but she couldn’t.

“I will worry a lot about Annabel’s safety, because she doesn’t even want to see any of my guards in her sight, aside from you.” Damien’s lips formed a thin line after saying.

“I’m not happy about you leaving, your family also needs you. But I’m glad that your stay with us made an impact and changed a lot of wrong things,” Damien confessed.

If he was to be weak, tears would have started rolling down his cheeks as those heavy words left his mouth.

“My only wish which would never be fulfilled is to keep you with us forever, because I really would have done that,” he said softly,

“Maybe if you were not a man, you would have been the only woman that I could confide in and spend my life with,”

“If I want to stop being cold-hearted and ready to love a woman, I would choose someone whom my sister will be happy to always be with,”

“Annabel loves and admires your stay with us, but we can never make you a part of us, because you are a man who needs to start a family when you want to,”

“I would have asked to meet with your sister, but she may not be like you. What if Annabel doesn’t even want her??”

“What if she can’t address my cold attitude like you did? I won’t want things to get worst,”

“I’m sure you would not be happy to see your sister sad.” Damien raised his eyebrows at her.

”Maybe nature cheated on me by making you a man, because if you were to be a woman, I would have reconsider being with a woman who would be just like you.”

“But since that isn’t possible, I would cherish the moments of you being the sweetest butler I’ve ever had.” Damien expressed and the tears Vera had been holding rolled directly down her cheeks, for her to taste the salty liquid in her mouth.

This is what she has always wanted. For Damien to give her a special place in his life. For her to hold a meaning to him.

Now that she has achieved that, she couldn’t tell it to him because nobody knows what the outcome of the truth about her would be from Damien.

Would Damien ever accept or go feral after finding out about her true identity? Or would Damien consider being with the princess he doesn’t like?
