✍️ CHAPTER TITLE ✍️: LET HER LOVE FOR YOU COUNT.

“I came to the meeting later, and I apologized for not coming with you when you asked me to, is there any reason for you to still be upset?” Damien questioned Caleb, who had been ignoring his presence since they stepped into the car.

Damien knows that he offended Caleb again, even after he promised to mend his ways, days back. But having admitted and apologized, why was Caleb still being silent about him?

“You’re just tripping on your guilt, Damien. I’ve only been quiet because I wanted to think,” Caleb replied lazily.

His eyes had been glaring at the road, which was outside the moving car, and it did not blink for a second, or spare Damien any attention.

It was true that Caleb was upset with Damien’s act yesterday, but after sleeping over it, his mind had gotten over the anger which he had towards him.

Caleb might have been the son of the wicked woman- Crystal, but his instinct and everything about him never related to a single trait of his mother. Caleb is a righteous person.

After Damien’s father died and shared some parts of his properties to Caleb, while Damien got the largest part as expected, Caleb never cared about it.

Caleb only appreciated the man who took him away from the street and trained him like he was related to him and when it was time to depart from them, Mr Stewart gave him an adequate gift.

The man doesn’t even know that Caleb was his child, but he took care of him like one. Caleb will forever be grateful to their family for that. The parents’s good deeds are part of the reason why he couldn’t see Damien going through difficulty, he owes the family a lot.

“The princess,” Damien suddenly mentioned, earned a glare from Caleb, before he took his eyes away, ready to listen to whatever complaint Damien was going to give again.

“Is she your girlfriend?” Damien asked. He wanted to share everything that happened at the mansion with Caleb, since he wasn’t there to see it.

Damien had thought severally, about how he handled the situation over there. He could not believe that he would be calm like that and make peace with the butler too soon. Whatever he did in there, it was a surprise to him too.

“Really? Andromeda isn’t my girlfriend,” Caleb simply replied, not allowing Damien’s ignorance to bother him. His hand ran his hair all over before placing it back on his lap.

“She isn’t your girlfriend, and you visited her. Talking to each other for hours and you were so happy to be there,” Damien pointed out, thinking if Caleb thought that he was dump to see his display of affection over there.

“Next time, ask before assuming. I met her at the hill the last time I visited there,” Caleb started speaking. When Damien raised his brows in question and opened his mouth to speak, he didn’t stop him from doing so.

“The hill? You visited the hill?” He asked, surprised that Caleb had gone over there again.

He was aware that Caleb always visited the place whenever he wanted to think. But he goes there whenever he is worried, what has Caleb been worried about and he doesn’t know?

“I heard someone crying not long after I got there. When I went to check, it was the princess. I spoke to her and begged her to return back home, and even drove her there,” Caleb shared, regardless of Damien’s glare for not answering his previous question.

“I wanted to know how she was doing later, so I promised to visit her again. That was why I visited yesterday.” Caleb rounded up his words with a sigh.

Damien’s eyes narrowed after hearing, as he didn’t know why he felt happy, knowing there was nothing between Caleb and the Princess, yet.

“Have you met with her twin sister before?” Damien asked again. Instantly Caleb turned to look at him, wondering the reason why Damien had been disturbing his thoughts with random questions.

“I met her at the dinner party. But I can’t differentiate between them, as they are identical. Although, Andromeda told me that she had traveled to England. Why are you asking about that?” Caleb left a question for Damien to answer when he finished speaking.

Damien blinked away from Caleb in thought. If Andromeda told Caleb that Vera had gone to England, does that mean she didn’t know about it? Or does she want to give an excuse for her sister’s disappearance?

Could it have been possible that Vera didn’t inform her family about coming to his house? Did she lie to them for his sake? Damien thought in confusion.

“During the night, I found out that the butler is not a man, but a woman instead.” Damien shared. His eyes stayed stagnantly on Caleb’s face which showed confusion that he expected.

Caleb chuckled, then he asked, “Who told you that? How can he be a woman? He’s a man,” Caleb recited, not wanting what was affecting Damien to affect him too.

“That was what I thought too when Annabel told me. I didn’t believe it until I confirmed it myself,” Damien gave a fitted answer to all of his questions.

Caleb furrowed his brows, not believing what Damien was telling him.

“How can that be possible? The butler has been with us for a good three months. We would have found out about it earlier if he wasn’t a man,” He defended simultaneously.

“You’re right. Maybe I should admit that the princess is smarter than we thought, and that was why we didn’t find out anything,” Damien replied, happy to see the shocked expression on Caleb’s face.

“The princess? What do you mean?” He questioned, not understanding what Damien just told him.

“The butler is Vera, the twin sister of your assumed girlfriend,” Damien opened up and relaxed to enjoy the bewildered look on Caleb’s face.

“What are you saying, Damien? Why would she be the butler?” Caleb scoffed. Refusing to believe whatever Damien was saying and pretended like it was all a prank.

“Stop annoying me with your acts that are related to women. I would not suddenly sit down and come up with a false story,” Damien snapped, feeling offended by how Caleb kept on spitting rubbish.

Although when Annabel had told him, he also doubted it to be the truth. But the way Annabel was calm about him being dramatic, Damien couldn’t tolerate it from Caleb. He has started annoying Damien with every single reaction of him.

“Did you ask the butler then? Why would he do that!?” Caleb exclaimed again, making Damien roll his eyes.

“It’s a ‘she’ and not ‘he’.” Damien corrected, forgetting the fact that he was once like that hours back.

”If I didn’t ask, I wouldn’t have told you. And you should close up your mouth, it’s not a big deal.” Damien cautioned. Caleb was used to his sharp words, so he didn’t care about it right now. Why would he say this is not a big deal!? Damien is crazy.

“That was surprising, I must say. Did she come for revenge? I can remember you embarrassing her during the dinner party,” Caleb discussed, picturing the butler’s appearance on his head.

“It’s funny how everyone, aside from me that y’all claimed did it can’t remember anything,” Damien muttered. They all kept on pointing fingers at his actions when he didn’t remember when that happened.

When Annabel and Vera had told him earlier, Damien thought it was a lie. Now that Caleb also mentioned it, then it must have happened. But how could he have forgotten about it?

“Vera came here in disguise because she loves me and wants to be with me,” in a timid voice, Damien started sharing, while Caleb surprisingly listened.

“So, what do you have in mind to tell her? I still can’t believe it that the butler could be a woman and a princess at that,” Caleb said when Damien was done narrating everything to him.

“I don’t know. Do you have any idea what I should do?” Damien said, allowing Caleb to see his vulnerability.

Caleb sighed, happy to see that Damien had gotten new acts, aside his cold self that would have embarrassed the butler, and not seeking opinion, in order to speak with her later.

Even Caleb loves the butler’s presence in the house. He appreciated the fact that Annabel enjoys the butler’s company and that the butler herself is a kind person.

Something like this only happens in movies, Caleb had never heard of it happening anywhere before. For the princess to come closer to Damien when he was still very dangerous, it shows that she truly loves him.

Instead of Caleb being mad at the butler for deceiving all of them, he was sad about the sufferings that she put herself through.

Caleb wondered the reason why the princesses’s fate was like that. Andromeda was mourning over her heartbreak, the one she got for loving someone.

Vera is presently in the mansion, acting like a worker and enduring all pains, because she wants to be with a man that she loves. How painful could that be for the both of them?

“She must have loved you so much,” Caleb murmured, and without even knowing, Damien’s eyes softened on their own.

The car had stopped in the company park earlier, but none of them stepped out of the car. They wanted to take their time to solve the matter.

“What do you have in mind to tell her? I hope you are not planning on yelling at her?” Caleb, not liking the idea that Damien could hurt the butler asked.

“I would have done that earlier if I wanted to. She’s leaving tomorrow, so I know we will have to talk, that was why I told her to let us talk when I’m back,” Damien boredly said.

“When you found out the truth, was a part of you happy about it?” Caleb asked, waiting keenly for Damien’s reply.

Damien didn’t need to think twice before answering,
“I was surprised, but also happy. If I am to say the truth, I’ve always wished that the butler was a woman, and I don’t know why I even wished for that,” he truthfully shared.

Caleb smiled, a genuine smile, which showed his contentment, about Damien’s reply. No one would have realized it until now, that Damien has gotten a soft spot for the butler without knowing.

Caleb had noticed it, and he once brought it to Damien’s notice. Asking Damien if he had not become gay by having affection for the butler, because of his love for the butler’s touch on him.

If Caleb had known the truth earlier before Damien, he would have created many encounters that would have made Damien’s love for the butler grow rapidly. Caleb wants love to win over Damien’s coldness towards women.

“You must have gotten a soft spot and an affection for the butler. You just couldn’t agree with it earlier because you can’t see yourself falling for a man,” Caleb pointed out.

Caleb had hit the nail right on the spot where Damien was aiming at, which made him share the same opinion as Damien.

“Maybe you’re right. But what do you think I should do that?” Damien admitted, not wanting to hide anything from Caleb.

“First I would say that I’m glad you’re having a second thought over your hatred for women. I wasn’t expecting that from you soon,” Caleb said.

“The reason why I’m having a second thought is because the butler fell in the place. I would not have allowed those creature to trip on my emotion again,” Damien replied, his face hardened, and he earned a nod from Caleb.

“Are you also considering her sacrifice? You should be proud that a woman could do that for you,” Caleb expressed his mind. Remembering Damien of the same thing Annabel told to him.

“That is part of the reason why I could not see myself acting cold towards her. I would have given a severe punishment, if I found out that a worker deceived me like that,” He didn’t hide the cold expression that suddenly appeared on his face.

“Don’t go about glaring like that, else you will scare her,” Caleb warned, not happy with Damien’s cold expression.

“She would have left earlier if she had a problem with it. I don’t have it in mind to scared her.” He simply replied.

“Let’s do something about the meeting first. You may keep thinking about it, while I handle the things over there,” Caleb said, grabbing his briefcase with him.

“But Damien, no matter what, make sure your conclusion won’t render her effort useless. Let her love for you count when you’re making your final decision.” Caleb adviced, opening the car door while Damien silently nod his head.

Caleb walked away after he got down from the car, and leaving Damien alone with his thoughts.
