Poisoned Love

(The Break-up)

Episode 12

Michelle was restless. She walked endlessly

around the school, searching for him; searching

for Steven.

She looked like someone who was suffer from a

terrible illness as a result of the pale look on her

face.

Her name was ringing all over the school. The

news had spread around and people saw it as an

opportunity to jest at her.

Michelle couldn’t think of anything or anyone

else aside talking with Steven. She was trying to

reach him on phone but she couldn’t and he

didn’t seem to be anywhere in the school

building.

She decided to go over to his house and on her

way to her car, she ran into Lily who was

walking with her three companions.

“hello, Michelle. Wats up?” Lily said as she and

her friends stood in front of her.

“you seem to be in a hurry. Are you looking for

someone? Maybe, for Steven? Oh dear, but you

should know he’s never coming back”, Lily

paused and laughed.

Michelle stood still, starring at her with

distraught eyes.

“So, tell me Michelle, how does it feel? How does

it feel to be cheated? To be dumped? You took

Steven away from me and that’s one thing I’ll

never forgive you for. But, at least, now we’re in

the same shoes. He has also been taken from

you and now you can understand the pains I felt

when you did the same to me”.

Michelle was becoming tearful and she quickly

ignored Lily as she ran away into her car.

She arrived at Steven’s apartment and met him

by the pool when she got in.

Immediately he saw her, he got on his feet and

walked closer to her.

“Michelle, what’re you… ”

“Steven,” she called and embraced him tearfully.

“I’m… I’m sorry for what happened last night. I’m

so sorry for creating a scene. I… I was just

scared you didn’t love me anymore”.

Wasn’t that insane? He was the one who had

hurt her, but yet, she was the one apologizing.

“Michelle, listen to me” Steven said and held her

face tenderly. “let’s stop kidding each other,

okay? I’m sorry for the pains I might have put

you through. But, I don’t love you, Michelle”.

“no, Steven, don’t say that. You love me; I know

you do. Steven, please”.

“Michelle, listen, you’re a very pretty lady and

you deserve a better man in your life, not

someone like me who has nothing but fake love

to offer”.

“I don’t care! I’m ready for any kind of love

you’re willing to give to me. Just don’t leave me,

Steven. Please”.

“Michelle, you have to go. I can’t continue with

this anymore”.

“no, you’re the only man I want. Don’t do this to

me, Steven. Don’t. Please, don’t leave me”, she

cried.

Steven had to force himself away from her. He

left her on the floor and walked away, while

Michelle remained there, crying.

She wept and wept and after some time, she

hurried back to her car.

She turned on her ignition and scorched away,

not knowing exactly where she was headed.

She continued crying in her car and as a result,

her vision was blur.

There was so much pain; so much agony.

Soon she felt dizzy and the next thing she knew,

there was a blackout.

Steven sat in Sophia’s apartment while she laid

on the couch, her head placed on his legs.

They were both in the sitting room and Mrs Kate

had already left for work. A movie was being

played and they were both pretending to focus

on the movie, but they had many thoughts

running through their minds.

“Steven, have you seen Michelle lately?” Sophia

finally asked.

“yes, she came over to my house this morning

“replied Steven.

“she did? And what did you talk about?”

“I made it clear to her that our relationsh¡p was

over. I made her understand why I couldn’t go on

with her anymore”.

“and do you think she understands?”

“well, I’m sure she will. It might take some time,

but I’m sure she’ll definitely get to understand”.

“but, Steven I really feel bad for Michelle. Don’t

you think we might be hurting her feelings?”

“come on, Sophia. Do you prefer I go back to her

and pretend I love her?”

Immediately, a call came into Steven’s phone

and when he checked on the caller, he

discovered it was Michelle’s younger sister.

He picked the call after a slight hesitation.

“hello?” he said reluctantly on the phone. “…

What?… Okay, I’ll be right there”.

And the call ended.

“who was that? “Sophia asked, curiously.

“it was Natalie. I mean, Michelle’s younger

sister. She just called to inform me that Michelle

was involved in an accident this morning after

she left my place”, Steven replied as he got on

his feet.

“Oh, my God! So, where’s she?”

“she’s at the hospital. I’m going over there now”.

“I… I want to come with you”.

“no, Sophia. You can’t. I don’t think her parents

would appreciate your presence there. Don’t

worry, I’ll get back to you “, he replied as he

gave her a peck and left.

He hurried into the hospital building and met Mrs

Catherine, Michelle’s mom at the reception hall.

“good day, ma,” he greeted, trying to sound

polite.

Mrs Catherine kept a straight face as she starred

at him from head to toe.

“and what’re you doing here? “she asked, sternly.

” I’m… ”

“don’t tell me you’re here for Michelle. After

everything you’ve done to her, I can’t believe

you’d even have the guts to show up here.

You’re just lucky she’s not in a critical state,

else, I would have made you gone through hell

myself” she spoke disgruntled and walked away.

Steven almost felt abashed. The nurses were

just starring at him.

Just then, Natalie, who had been watching

everything, walked over to him looking

depressed.

“sorry about that”, she apologized to Steven.

“Oh, it’s nothing”, Steven replied, swallowing

down his anxiety.

“how’s she?” he asked.

“you don’t have to worry about her; she’s fine.

The accident wasn’t too fatal.”

“okay”, Steven sighed. “thank God it wasn’t

serious. Can I see her?”

“well, I’m guessing mom has gone over to the

room to stay with her and I’m pretty sure you

wouldn’t want to be under the same roof with

her – at least for now.

“but, what really happened, Steven? Are the

rumors true? The rumours of you breaking up

with her over another lady?”

Steven sighed again but this time around,

pathetically.

“it’s complicated, Natalie. I don’t think you can

understand. But, I just hope Michelle can forgive

me for the pains I’ve caused her.”he replied and

walked away.

He got to the decade of the building and

unexpectedly, he met Oliver walking in.

The two friends exchanged glances at each

other as they never thought of meeting at that

time.

“hi “Steven greeted and Oliver starred at him for

sometime before giving a reply.

” what’s up? What’re you doing here?” he replied

and asked.

“I came to see Michelle. And you?”

“I also heard about the incident and I decided to

pay her a visit”.

They both walked over to the flank of the

building and Oliver sat on the pavement while

Steven remained standing.

“by the way, Oliver, I’m sorry about last night. I…

”

“of course, you should be sorry”, Oliver ch¡pped

in and scoffed.

“come on, dude. You acted so unthoughtful. How

could you create such a scene at my party?

Because of what you did, the entire party was

ruined!” Oliver said in an upset tone.

“I know and I’ll I’m apologizing. I really didn’t

mean to disorg-nize your party”.

“well, you already did. You couldn’t even have

second thoughts about it”.

“come on, Oliver. I’m apologizing”.

“your apologizes are of no use to me. The

damage has already been done. You’ve always

wanted to have your desires at any cost so I

shouldn’t be surprised.”

“hold on, Oliver “Steven was startled. “are you

seriously angry with me over your birthday party

or you’re angry over something else?”

Oliver’s eyes were becoming furious.

“I need to check on Michelle “, he said and left in

a brisk.

Episode 13

Sophia was exiting one of her lecture halls when

she ran into Lily.

Lily, as usual, was with her group of friends and

they stood in front of Sophia.

“hello, lovely. Nice morning”, Lily greeted with a

smile and a wave.

“hi”, was all Sophia could say at the moment as

she pondered over the strange ladies.

While Lily did the talking, her three friends just

kept themselves busy by chewing some bubble

gums.

“I guess we haven’t met before. And I also heard

you were the new tenant of Steven’s heart.

Anyway, I’m Michelle and it’s a pleasure meeting

you. Seriously, I was happy when I heard you

were Steven’s girlfriend. I can’t imagine the joy

you feel right now – the joy of being Steven’s

first lady for the meantime. You know, I’ve also

been there and I know exactly how it feels”.

“please,” Sophia said, sounding pissed off. “I

need to be on my way. I don’t really have time

for this”.

“hey, chill, okay? I don’t plan on Standing here all

day either. You know, I’m sure you must feel

very lucky, but like I said before, you’re just like

a tenant in Steven’s heart. Steven doesn’t fall in

love. The only thing he loves is just the body of

ladies.

“think about this; just this year, I was his

girlfriend. And this same year, he dumped me

and went for Michelle. And now, he’s dumped

Michelle and has chosen you. So, practically, in

less than a year, he has hooked up three

girlfriend! And here you are, feeling special”.

Sophia couldn’t take anymore of Michelle’s

words. She decided to turn around and change

direction since July wouldn’t let her go ahead.

“I’m just trying to give you a piece of advice,

Sophia.” Lily said to her back and Sophia paused

to listen to her, although she didn’t turn around.

“Steven is a playboy and that’s what he’ll always

be. He acts like he cares, but he doesn’t. He

makes use of even the slightest opportunity and

once he’s gotten into that special angle of yours,

right between your legs, you’ll mean nothing to

him”.

At that point, Treasure arrived. She had sighted

them from a distance and guessed Lily was

inconveniencing Sophia.

“Lily, what’s going on? “she asked huskily as she

stood beside Soph

” nothing serious; just having a friendly chat. By

the way, I think you need to impact more wisdom

into this friend of yours. What’re friends for?” Lily

replied, and sauntered away.

“Sophia, are you alright?” Treasure asked, worried

over the depression on Sophia’s face.

“I’m fine”, Sophia hushed as she walked over to

a staircase and sat on it with Treasure.

“that Lily is really something else. She was

talking about Steven, wasn’t she? She’s just

lucky she didn’t lay a finger on you”, Treasure

said with a repugnant look.

Sophia didn’t say anything immediately, probably

cogitating over Lily’s words.

They seemed to have hurt her.

“Sophia, don’t tell me that crazy bitch got into

you. You don’t have to give a thought to

anything she said”.

Sophia starred at Treasure and took her eyes

away.

But, what if Lily was right?

“Treasure,” she called softly. “do you think I’m

doing something wrong? By giving my heart to

Steven?”

Treasure sighed and bleaked.

“Sophia,” she said. “I really don’t know what to

say. The truth is, I’m very scared for you.

Although, I know what Steven did for you at the

party was extraordinary, but he’s always been a

playboy and that’s why I can’t tell if he’s

changed or not. Nobody knows what he’s got up

his sleeves.”

“but… He told me I was his first crush and he

needed me to guide him through. Do you think

it’s possible he might be lying?”

“hmm” Treasure sighed again. “maybe you should

give him a chance. But one thing I must warn

you, you need to be very careful”.

And Sophia let out a faint smile.

Steven and Sophia sat next to each other by the

beach, her head relaxed on his shoulders.

They enjoyed the activities going on at the

beach – the children playing, the dances going on

and so many other activities.

Steven had suggested they went there.

Sophia had tried as hærd as possible to keep

enjoying the moment, but it seemed difficult for

her. The words of Lily kept driving in and she

couldn’t get it off her mind.

Could Steven ever betray her? Is she special to

him? Does she mean anything to him?

Confusing questions kept pouring on Sophia but

unfortunately, she couldn’t give any answer to

them.

“Sophia, are you alright?” Steven broke into her

thoughts. He was noticing how absent minded

she was.

“I’m fine “she sighed and replied.

Steven smiled and adjusted her head more

properly on his shoulder.

” Steven,” she called after a while. “do you really

love me?”

“of course, I do Sophia. Why do you even ask?”

he replied.

Sophia didn’t say any other thing as she took her

eyes back to the beach. There was a doubly pale

look on her face and Steven could notice it.

“Sophia, we really can’t go on like this. How do

you expect me to feel when you’re having

second thoughts about me? It surprises me to

know you’re questioning my love for you. Listen,

Sophia, I know I’ve lived a bad life, but please,

trust me when I say I love you. I really do,

Sophia”, Steven said with a depressed voice.

Sophia finally starred at him and smiled.

“I love you too, Steven” she said with a k-ss.
