CHAPTER TWO : THE BLIND DATE

Getting up from my desk, I looked around to make sure Sir Ethan was still engrossed in his work. I then grabbed my bag and quickly left the company. Following Monica’s directions, I drove to the location she had specified.

When I arrived, I noticed her standing outside the coffee shop. She waved her hands to get my attention, and I didn’t hesitate to approach her. “Where is he?” I asked.

She glanced through the window. “I can’t see him. It’s a small, cozy shop with a rustic, old-fashioned feel. The coffee is roasted on-site, so it’s always fresh. There’s also a selection of delicious pastries, sandwiches, and other snacks.

“Let’s go in,” she suggested, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. We found a seat, and I followed her gaze to the man she was talking about. He was nothing like the mayor’s son. “Isn’t that him?”

I couldn’t help but growl. “Of course not! He may have dark hair and blue eyes, but he isn’t him. I showed you his picture.”

“I don’t think you’ll ever find him, Lacey,” Monica taunted me. I looked closely at the guy. He looked oddly familiar, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever seen anyone that attractive in my life. He had broad shoulders, blue eyes, dark short hair, and lips that one could describe as kissable. He turned to look in my direction, and our gazes met. I quickly averted my eyes when he raised his right brow.

“We should leave,” I suggested, trying to hide my embarrassment.

“My coffee, I just ordered. We can’t just leave like that,” Monica protested.

“Oh my God,” I muttered as I looked back at the attractive stranger. He was still staring at me, and I couldn’t help but feel his gaze. It was strange; he seemed to know who I was. Finally, he averted his eyes, picked up his ringing phone, and left.

“You like him,” Monica teased. “I guess missing work isn’t so bad.”

I sighed. “I was expecting to see the mayor’s son, Edwin, not someone I have no idea about.”

Monica shrugged. “I just thought it was him.”

“Edwin has blond hair, not black, and grey eyes not blue” I corrected her. “How could you forget that?”

“Have you thought about forgetting him?” Monica asked, her smile fading. “I know how you feel toward him, but he didn’t even believe you after what happened to you.”

“Monica,” I said, not wanting to discuss this any further.

” Yes, he traveled away for a year…..he has returned for over three years and counting but haven’t even bothered to call you…not even once ”

” I just need to find him and explain myself ”

“Yes, you tried, and he believed his personal assistant over you,” Monica insisted. ” I want you to meet other people, date other people.”

“Let’s not talk about this,” I said as the waiter brought our coffee. I took a sip and then looked out the window. I couldn’t imagine dating anyone other than Edwin.

“my dad set up a blind date ”

” Again?” She growl and I chuckle

” Yea, I Know right ”

” What do you plan on doing?”

” I have had enough of his dates, I don’t think I can handle anymore of it ” taking another sip from the coffee, I look outside my window.

My phone buzzed again, and I picked it up. It was a message from my father. *IF YOU DON’T ATTEND THE BLIND DATE TODAY, EVERYONE IN YOUR WORKPLACE WILL KNOW YOU ARE THE CHAIRMAN’S DAUGHTER.* It was a simple but effective threat. I couldn’t let him jeopardize everything I’d worked so hard for.

” I think I will have to go to this blind date ” she look at me confused ” looks like am not strong enough to disobey my father”

” What do you mean?” I show her the text message, she hiss ” that old man ” that was the only offensive thing she could say ” why is he so manipulative” I shrug ” and you, why do you keep hiding that you’re fucking rich”

“Personal reasons,” I replied.

Getting up, I grabbed my phone. “I should go. My boss might end up firing me today.”

“Sorry for that, Lacey. You know I love you,” Monica said, trying to make amends.

I chuckled. “Yeah, whatever.”

Arriving back at the company, I slumped at my desk. The moment I approached it, I was confronted by Ethan, who was sitting there. He asked me to follow him into his office, I did…the moment I shut my door, he begin.

“Is this what I pay you for?” he growled.

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled.

“What happened today? Wait, let me guess,” he said, getting closer. “Did your father die this time?”

I shook my head. “No, my uncle did.”

“Lacey!” he snapped. “If you’re sick of working here, give me your resignation letter. I don’t need such a worthless employee in my company.”

“I can’t leave,” I replied.

“Then get your act together,” Ethan said firmly. I attempted to take a step closer to him but accidentally stepped on a banana peel I hadn’t noticed. I lost my balance and fell into his arms, and he also ended up on the floor with me.

His hands were inadvertently on my backside, and my lips had brushed against his cheek. My face turned pale, and I quickly pulled away, feeling my body react to his touch.

I had been traumatized for years and couldn’t bear to let a man touch me.

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, getting up and avoiding his gaze. “Excuse me.” I left his office, wondering how I had ended up in such a situation.

I arrived at George’s apartment, but the sight of my uncle standing outside the door made me frown. “How did you know I would be here?” I asked, puzzled by his presence.

“I took a guess,” he mumbled, his dark hair mostly grey now.

“You’re too old for this, setting up dates for me,” I said as we entered the apartment and I closed the door. “You know me better; I will not attend such a thing.”

“That’s why I’ve brought a deal,” he replied.

“A deal?” I raised an eyebrow. “I’d like to hear that.”

“If you attend this date, I will give you half of my shares in the company,” he offered.

“I want all of it,” I pressed.

“It’s yours,” he agreed, and I couldn’t help but wonder why he was so interested in this young lady.

“Why didn’t you set this up with your son, Edwin?” I asked. “He’d be happy to do as you wish.”

“I have no issue with Edwin. He will get married without my help, but you, I have doubts,” he said.

“That’s not a very nice thing to say,” I replied.

“You deal with weapons, drugs, and assassination,” he pointed out. “You should at least get married before meeting your end.” His last sentence made me chuckle.

“Fine, I will attend this blind date, but no more afterward,” I conceded.

“Indeed,” he agreed. After our conversation, he left.

I looked at my schedule, which included the name of the restaurant where I was to meet this young lady. Clenching my hands, I thought about the girl from the coffee shop earlier. Did people stare at each other like that? I couldn’t help but wonder what she was plotting, perhaps to steal my phone. After spending years in Russia, I had become more cautious about such things.

I relaxed for a few minutes, showered, put on a black suit, and left the apartment around 8 pm.

Walking into the restaurant, I found an empty seat. After a few minutes, someone with blond hair sat down right across from me. I recognized her as the girl from the coffee shop earlier.

“It’s you,” she gasped, and I furrowed my brows. She had blond hair and green eyes, and she seemed really familiar. “You’re the one from the coffee shop?” I nodded.

“Nice to meet you,” I said, pulling out my business card and handing it to her while she do same.

“Morton Norman,” she mumbled. “A rather unsatisfying name.” I didn’t say much and just watched her ramble on. “Let’s be clear here; I have absolutely no desire to marry you.”

“This is just a date,” I said, furrowing my brows. “What made you think I would want to marry you?”

She looked speechless. “I just needed to put it on the table,” she said, then sipped her coffee. “Are we done here?”

“On the contrary,” I said. “To be fully honest, I can see you do not like the thought of seeing me again.” She nodded before biting her lower lip, which seemed to be an old habit but was something I found very provocative.

“Very well,” iagreed.

“Am I permitted to leave?” she asked, submissive in a way that intrigued me.

“No,” I said, placing my phone on the table. “I’d like to spend the whole evening with you.”

She furrowed her brows. “You mean, you want this to be a proper date?”

“Indeed,” I replied, leaning back in my chair and folding my hands. “I value my time, and since I have your attention for two hours, I plan to spend that time with you.”

She fake-laughed, ” you’re joking ” my phone fall off my hands, bending my head to pick it up, a glimpse of her underwear got my eyes, pink.

“I’m good at many things, but not lies,” I said with a smile after picking up my phone.

“You’re strange,” she said, frowning. “What would you like to know? How much my bag cost?”

“Hmm,” I said, looking at her. “No, how good you are in bed.” Her face turned pale.

she sipped her coffee three times before looking at me.”Have a good night, Mr. Morton, or should I say, asshole?”

Watching her leave, I smile at that, feisty. Picking up my phone, I proceeded to call George” you finished the damn yoghurt” that was his first word, ignoring that I proceed.

” They is someone I will like to fuck ” mumbling I stare at lacey slowly go, how her arse look so firm and soft in that dress ” I don’t care what you do, just get her in my trap, lastest tomorrow evening ”

” You mean miss lacey?” He mumble” consider her yours sir”

I grin ” excellent”

CHAPTER TWO: Revelations and Plans

NOTE: the male lead name is no longer Morton but ARTHUR.

“But sir, do you think you should go this far?” George mumbled, his concern evident. “As far as I can tell, I didn’t get any intel on this girl; she is as clean as a sheet.”

Sitting down on the couch, I looked at George. “It’s been two days, and you haven’t found anything?”

“The only thing I could dig up was this.” He handed over a file. Taking it, I scanned through the contents. “She was raped when she turned nineteen.”

“Raped?” I mumbled, my brows furrowing. It struck me that when I asked for her body count earlier, she turned pale and walked away. “By whom?”

“Edwin’s personal assistant,” George mumbled.

“He wasn’t arrested?”

“No. Intel has it that Edwin and Lacey were dating during that time, but when this occurred, he believed his assistant over his girlfriend.”

“And this happened before the bastard traveled out?”

“Yes, sir.”

Dropping the file, I frowned. How could my brother be this stupid? It was evident that she wasn’t lying. Picking his personal assistant’s side over Lacey was a terrible move. “I also found out where she works.”

“Excellent.” Getting up, I moved to my drawer, pulled out another cigarette, and lit it up. “Buy the company. I’ll head over there tomorrow as their new boss.”

“I thought you only wanted a one-night stand with her?”

“I did.” Blowing out smoke, I looked at George. “There’s something I want to know about her before I move forward. The fact that she was raped won’t allow me to do anything to her.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m pretty sure she despises physical touch now.” A frown crept onto my face. I might be a creep who sleeps with anyone wearing pink underwear, but I do have a little bit of heart. “I’ll let her warm up first before dealing with her. What I need you to do now is buy that company today.”

“Alright.” George frowned. “You really need to get your own apartment.”

“Then buy one for me. Put it in the list of things you need to do.” I mumbled. “And remember, buy the entire building. I won’t need neighbors.”

“I’ll get it.”

“Call Lacey’s father. Tell him I’m interested in getting married to his daughter.”

George choke on his coffee”Marriage?”

“Indeed.”

“Why is that?”

“There’s something I saw in that file that made me want her more.”

“What is it?” George looked at me with curiosity.

“You need not know.”

“Not fair, sir.”

“She is the girl.”

“You mean the little girl who thought you wanted to kill yourself?”

“Yes.” I smiled, dragging on the cigarette, feeling the burn inside me. “What a small world, right?”

“Are you sure?”

“I am.” Nodding, I pointed at the file. “In the file, it mentions her missing on that date and talks about her elder brother who committed suicide.”

“You’re right.”

“I know.” I clenched my hands, determined to eliminate the bastard who had touched her in such an ungodly way. “One more thing, George.”

“What is it?” George met my dead gaze, and he flinched. “Who are we killing?” he immediately asked, and a smile crept onto my face.

“Edwin’s personal assistant,” I mumbled. “In the process, beat up Edwin a little. It annoys me that he let that happen to a girl.”

” Consider It done,” George mumbled.

It felt like the day was repeating itself once more — the nightmares, the routine of showering, preparing for work, and the forced breakfast with my father.

“Good morning, Father,” I mumbled as I pulled out a chair.

“Morning,” he looked rather happy, an uncommon sight.

“You’re smiling,” I remarked, curious about the rare expression.

“This comes out because, for the first time, I’m proud of you.”

“What do you mean?” I dipped my coffee and looked at him, eager to understand what had pleased him.

“Arthur Norman called earlier, saying he would like to marry you,” he said with an air of finality.

“I don’t want that,” I protested.

“Do not start with your useless arguments. He is well-established, and his family is part of the major,” he explained.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“He is the major’s nephew — well-established and rich.”

“Father!” I exclaimed.

“Enough with all these,” he growled, standing up. “You will marry him, and it’s final.”

“This is why brother killed himself,” I yelled, standing up. “You are a good-for-nothing father, and I…” His slap across my face silenced me. Tears welled in my eyes.

“Do not bring your brother into your foolishness,” he said before leaving. I sat back on the chair, feeling horrible, my chest and cheek hurting. Anger flow in my body,Why was Arthur so interested in marrying me?

I was sure we didn’t start off on the right foot. So why?

To think he was Edwin’s cousin — I can’t be with him. Losing my appetite, I got up from the chair, grabbed my keys, and headed to work, hoping Sir Ethan wouldn’t fire me this time.

Grabbing two coffees and a sandwich on the way, I rushed to the company. Upon entering the elevator, I pressed the first floor after others dropped at their desired floors.

Getting out of the elevator, I moved towards my desk, dropped my coffee, and walked into his office. “I’m sorry I’m late I…” I stopped talking when I noticed who was sitting in Sir Ethan’s chair. “You?” I moved closer, dropping the coffee and sandwiches on the desk.

“I hate sandwiches,” he growled. “You should have gotten something better.”

“Mr. Arthur,” I placed my hands on my hips, “you can’t be in here.”

“Why not?” He questioned, looking completely clueless. “I’m putting on a suit, right?”

“You don’t work here.”

“I do now.”

“What?”furrowing my brows I stare at his smirk

“This is my company.”

“What?” I gasped.

“I bought it just to be able to talk to you each day.”I watch how he stand to his feet and move closer to me, standing three inches away, he repeat himself ” I bought it just to be able to talk to you each day, to see your beautiful face” hearing that from him made made me frown, usually I blush at silly things but this man is annoying.

“You called my father about marrying me?”

“I did.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Why? To marry you,” he stated plainly.

“You don’t even like me.”

“Do I have to?” He stepped closer, and I nodded.

“You can’t marry someone you know nothing about or even love.”

“Love, no. But we can start with like.” He smiled. “Love grows anyway.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

“Lacey.” He suddenly became serious. “Will you be happy if I say I’m obsessed with you?” My face flushed at that admission.

“Of course not!”

He shrugged. “Then I like your arse.” I watch how he slowly light up his cigarettes” am sure you are satisfied with that ”

” I have no plans of marrying you!”

” Why is that?” He step closer, blow the smoke right at my face ” you have someone you’re head over heels for?”

” Matter of fact, yes!”

” Hmm” He sat back in the chair. “Get back to work, Miss Lacey. And do bring my schedule for this day” His expression suddenly changed. I had desire to speak more but the look he gave me made other thoughts vanish

He can be scarry.

“Excuse me.”I mumble, getting agitated.
