MATILDA’S POV
I gave him the look of disgust as I felt a strong urge of tearing him apart rise in me but I had no option than to calm my nerves down and watch the court session till it ends.

His mom gave her words and was taken to a seat which was right behind Chris because it gave me the opportunity to stare at him as much as I want with him returning the stare.

I think I was blinded by john’s kindness to have fallen in love with him instead of Chris whom I’m sure he did all these because he loves me sincerely, It’s really hærd to go this far for a stranger.

I think love isn’t my thing because despite being deeply in love with John, I developed hatred for him in a flash. My heart didn’t consider the fact that it’s been long since he had john in it.

I was jolted out of thought when the judge asked the courtroom to be silent and every became silent just as he ordered. Some among the reporters directed their cameras at me, while some directed it at the judge as they all awaited the judge’s statement.

I hereby announce the closure of this case and the release of the accused in person of miss Matilda Robert. The government shall compensate her for all she’s done and the acclaimed victim’s children shall apologize to her publicly right after this court session. He said and I raised my hand for the cuffs in my hands to be taken off.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I rubbed the injury the cuff has done to my wrist. I stood up and walked out of my seat only to be welcomed by Anita who jumped on me, making me lose balance as we both ended up on the floor.

I’m sorry I had to make you fall, you must be very weak at the moment” she apologised and we looked at each other and smiled before hugging ourselves again. “Thank you for being there for me* I said

“Thanks for staying strong for us” she replied. *Ladies! It’s time to get out of here. People are waiting for you outside, you need to get an apology now! remember what the judge said” Chris said interrupting the moment of our rejoice.

I got up and jumped on him. “Thank you for being there for me, I owe you big” I said and cried again. “It’s nothing dear, you have a lot to do, let’s just get out of here first” he replied and started walking towards the entrance without putting me down.

“Put me down! there are people watching us” I said but he adjusted my position and carried me properly instead. He dropped me off at the front of the court where the press, the brothers, their parents and many other people were waiting for me.

Your apology can’t change what I feel towards you right now, I want you to bring in my settlement or I declare a strong war against you. Remember how much torture you gave me before handing me over to the cops, that scar can never leave my heart… I said and walked away.

I hugged our doctor, Desmond, Anita’s boss, the lawyer, Chris and Anita after thanking them sincerely. I would invite you all over to my place once I’m fully recovered. I really wanna thank you properly and find a way of repaying you all for what you did, so please do me a favor once again by accepting my invitation… I said

“I’m sorry for interrupting, but please i’d love to invite you over to my place first” Mrs Thompson said as she got to where we’re with her husband.

I’m sorry ma’am but I have a lot to do so I won’t be able to accept your invitation… I replied

I don’t mind you coming anytime, I want my children to regret what they did. I truly didn’t train them like that and I’m really disappointed in them, so that’s why I’m trying my best to make them know the consequence of what they did… She said

Alright ma’am! I replied perfunctorily. I understand the woman’s thought and the fact that she’s sorry, but I still can’t give her the attention she wants due to what her children did to me.

“She will contact you when she’s ready to meet you, we have to go now” Chris said.

Let’s head to my mall first, I need to see how my workers have been doing without me.. I said.

Gabriel asked them to shut it down so they haven’t been working for a while they started again few weeks ago and I’m sure they have been making progress.. Anita said and Desmond shot her a glare

I understand he did that because she isn’t supposed to tell me that in this situation because it’d make me angrier but I’m glad she did and j know she’d tell me no matter what.

“It’s fine, let’s just go” I said and we all departed. I see you now behave like your boss’s daughter since she doesn’t see you as her worker anymore now that you’ve become independent… I said to Anita who followed Chris and I to my Mall.

“I guess you said that because I followed you without being scared of her getting mad at me” she replied and I nodded.

We arrived at the mall and I must confess, I loved the way I met everyone doing their job perfectly and that brought joy to my heart and I couldn’t help but shed tears of joy.

My secretary who was busy supervising her colleagues s₱0tted me at the corner I stood and scre-med her lungs out which attracted her colleagues attention and before I knew it, they surrounded me and I took turns in hugging them.

Welcome back ma’am. We all knew you couldn’t have done that and waited patiently here for your arrival. It’s so good to see you again even though it’s not in a good state… One among them said and others nodded in assent.

I’m sorry you all had to see me in this condition too and I thank you all for being loyal to me. Thanks for taking care of my business in my absence. I promise to compensate you all once I’m fully back… I said

Please you really need to make those brothers suffer for hurting you, despite claiming to love you. All thanks is to Mr Chris who called us all to return to work, he really did a lot for you and we hope you’ll see him as an important person… Another person said

I was about talking when Anita walked in. Ma’am I must say,, you’ve got the best friend ever, this lady right here proved to everyone of us that she could die for you if there’s need to. I’m Sorry to say, but She has some pinch of craziness in her… My Secretary said and she blushed

“I’ll see you all some other time, I have to go now” I said and turned to leave.

“Alright ma’am! But please don’t ever forgive those guys” they all said in unison and I smiled. “She wouldn’t dare” Anita replied them and we left finally.

MATILDA’S POV
I don’t think I would be able to live in John’s house anymore, so can I stay at yours for a while? at least till I secure an apartment of my own. I said to Chris as we drove away from the Mall.

Of course you can, i would love it if you can just let go of everything you have in his house and let’s go for shopping. You need to change everything about you and have a fresh start… He replied

Nah! I’d rather pack everything. I don’t think any of my thing is safe in his house, who knows if he might take them one day and accuse me of stealing them? I said

You’re right! Let’s go now and take it once and for all, so you will have nothing to do with them again… Anita chirped in.

He drove to the front of the house and we all alighted from the car. The gatekeeper opened the gate for us as soon as he sighted us and we went in.

We entered only to meet the brothers standing at the door probably waiting for my arrival. “Excuse me, I have to pack my things. Do you still have them?” I we said.

Sure! They’re still in your room, but I need to talk to you so please could you spare me some of your time please? He said but i ignored him and proceeded to the room instead.

I guess guilt is eating you up already. I wouldn’t wanna sound rude, but isn’t it too dumb of you to have said that you wanna talk to her despite all you did to her? I mean do you even have the gut to look at her face not to talk of talking to her with much boldness? Anita replied and I scoffed after hearing her say that.

I know what we did was wrong and it’s unforgivable, I just want to apologise to her and I want you to help me talk to her. I’m really sorry for not believing or trusting her and I’m ready to receive any punishment from her… He said

I packed everything that belongs to me and dragged them with me and left the room, I got downstairs and met more people waiting for me.

Chris and Anita came to assist me with my baggages and we proceeded to the door. Let me go will you? I said to John who was blocking my path, only for him to go down on his knees to beg me.

I looked at everyone’s face and their parents gave me apologetic look. “Mat! I know we’ve wronged you really bad, but we really wanna apologise to you. I’m so sorry for all I did to you and my brother is sorry too” Gabriel said

I thought I begged you more than you’re doing right now, I literally pleaded to you to believe me, but you paid deaf ears and insisted in some crazy evidence. Of course you need to be forgiven, so i’ve forgiven you. I just want us all to stay apart and that’s gonna bring peace to our midst, I just pray you don’t forget what is expected of you to do… I said.

The next thing I did after leaving John house the other day was visiting the hospital where I was given series of injections and drips to get rid if every damn thing in me that could cause sickness. I decided to resume back to school to go cover up for everything I’ve missed.

“OMG! Matilda you’re back, you came back for real! I swear I’ve missed you” the female among my close colleagues said to me as soon as she sighed me lighting from the car.

“Yes I did and I missed you too” I replied. “I’m so sorry you had to go through all that, lots of people really hated you for what you did and they talked about you everyday and everywhere. I’m sure they’re regretting ever believing the news already and are gonna be shocked to see you in school now” she said.

I’m glad to hear that, all thanks to their parents who got my name cleared. I don’t know if i’d be able to survive the insults I would get from people if I hadn’t been vindicated… I replied

Well! That’s all in the past now, so please let’s get to the class already and you should start with your journey of covering up with all you’ve missed… She said

We walked past the hallway and students couldn’t help but stare at us (Me in particular as we walked). I waved and smiled at them to assist them in erasing the guilt they all felt.

Few hours later, I packed my things up and headed out to the parking lot where Chris said he would be waiting for me with my friends. I got there and couldn’t see any sign of Chris or his car, I was about dialing his number when I saw John walking towards my direction.

Hi! He said as he got to me. “I’m! I must be so lost in thought because the last time I checked, he was a bit distanced from me.

Hi! I replied, how may I help you? I asked.

“I came to pick you up, so I would be able to make it up to you” he said and the lady beside me let out a jeering laughter
