MATILDA’S POV
Why would you just come into my house without knocking and tell the person you find to be burdensome so sudden to follow you home, is she some kind of toy to you? Chris replied to the words he uttered.

Chris I introduced he to you, remember? So I have the right to take her with me anytime I want. He replied. “because I’m some sort of toy right?” I chirped in. ”

Fine! I’m sorry I treated you that way” he apologized which made Chris and I look at each other before giving ourselves a high five. “it’s good you learnt your lessons, I’m glad I made you do that though. Treat her well bro, or I’ll be forced to take her from you forever… Chris warned and I saw John give him a middle finger.

Go wait for us outside, I need to help her pack up, we weren’t expecting you before… Chris added but he went to sit in one of the sofas instead and Chris and I laughed as we ran to my room upstairs.

“Make sure you call me if anything goes wrong in that house and I won’t hesitate to do as I’ve said” Chris said to me as we were about driving away and I nodded and thanked him for accommodating me so well… I replied.

So you adapted to his environment that easily when you find it hærd to adapt to mine? He said to me as we drove home. “well that’s because no one ever liked my presence there, I’m sure they’d be happier that I’m out of the picture” I replied

If only you knew they all missed your presence in the house” he said and my eyes w¡dened. “are you for real?” I asked and he nodded so let me so you that question I heard him ask when I entered. Tell me about about yourself… he said

I am Matilda and that’s what I can remember… I replied
I am john Thomas, a business man with a sad past I hate to be reminded of and talked about. I have a little brother whom you will be meeting soon.

I don’t think it’d be nice if you just remain in the house without having anything tangible you’re doing, so you’ll be working as my personal assistant at home, I have one that works for me at the office already… he said and my heart leaped in joy
Alright! I would appreciate that… I replied.

“Wow! Matilda is back, i don’t know why I’m suddenly happy by your presence.” The gatekeeper said as soon as I alighted and that put a slight smile on my face. At least I have someone who now appreciate my presence.

I got in and was only welcomed by a blazing eyes but I ignored that and greeted others that gave me welcome back smiles. I took another glance at her and still find her glaring at me, but all I could do was to saunter away.

What on earth is wrong with you, can’t you just stop being clumsy in your life? Do I have to keep teaching you how to do things‼! All the time? John yelled at me angrily at the mistake I made on not remembering to microwave hid meal before taking it to him. “I’m sorry sir” I apologized and ran out of the room to go correct my mistakes.

Is this what Anita is also going through? I asked myself as I got to the kitchen. “you haven’t seen anything yet” the stupid lady said as she entered the kitchen but I ignored her to avoid trouble.

I went back to my room after serving him. Isn’t it better being a beggar than working under someone receiving different insult everyday? I asked myself as I pondered over the issues I’ve been having. It’s still better than begging though, at least I have a roof over my head. All I have to do is just keep enduring… I said again and picked my phone to place a call across Anita

Days Later
“Bring those in,side” The boss said to me as he rushed out of the car as soon as we got to the compound after returning from the place we went.

“He must’ve really missed his brother” I said to the gatekeeper as he helped me offload the things in the car.

You can take them in yourself, I need to return to my duty post so he won’t get angry at me… He said

Thanks, I can help myself now… I replied

I got in,side and met two people I almost mistook for twins sitting beside each other chatting with joy written all over their faces.

“Good day” I greeted, by his brother only gave me a weird look which left me confused. “Wait! I think I’ve seen him somewhere” I thought as I stared at him for a while.

Who is she? He asked his brother.

That’s the lady I told you about. I’ve hired her as my personal assistant here at home since she’s got nothing to do… He replied

C’mon, I’ve told you to be more classy when choosing your workers. This lady right here shouldn’t be working with you, she’s not worth it… The boss’s brother replied

Excuse me, have we met before? Why the sudden hatred? And why did you judge me by my appearance? I said getting angry but trying my possible best to comport myself.

Wow! Is this who you call your worker? She has the gut to talk back at the boss’s brother, oh! Bro c’mon you don’t deserve this… He said to his brother but I left their presence before he could reply.

I was sitting in the living room watching a movie one day when the boss’s brother came to interrupt by obstructing my view. The boss isn’t around, so I know he has the authority to do anything with me since no one will stop him.

Excuse me sir, how may I help you? I asked after adjusting my sitting posture.

Take this, he said handling me an envelope filled with money. Leave here before my brother returns and never come back. I’m sure the money in the there would be sufficient enough for you if you spend it wisely… He said

And why would you tell me to leave when you’re not the one that employed me here, I’ll leave only if the boss returns and he support you… I replied

Hey Mia come over here… He called and she came running over.

“Go pack her things and bring them here this instant” he ordered her. Of course he knows she’s the only one that hates my gut and who would do anything to get rid of me.

“Alright sir, I’ll be right back” she replied with a slight bow and made to leave.

“Move an inch over there and get yourself paralyzed forever” I said coldly and she paused.

Me? She asked.

MATILDA’S POV
“What kind of stupid imagination is this” I thought as I brought myself back to reality. How I wish I could pull the idiot back and deal with her for having a hand in my elimination… I thought and glared hærd at her as she walked away.

Excuse me boss’s brother, I said rudely but trying to sound polite. I won’t leave this house until your brother returns and ask me to leave himself, so I’d like you to keep your money to yourself and spend it on something better… I replied him

Your braveness is one of the reasons why I detest you so much. A maid isn’t supposed to talk back at her boss or his relation, but that isn’t your case as you’ve chosen to be impolite, rude and stubborn.

“Leave now or you’ll forever be tormented in this house” he said and I scoffed. “If only you know how much of a torment I can cost you instead, you won’t be saying this” I thought.

“Here comes her baggages” the errand girl said as she brought my belongings. “Take them outside, she’ll follow up” he replied without taking his gaze off my face.

I decided to go spend sometime with the gatekeeper before the boss arrives, so I left the room and followed the fool carrying my things making him think I’ve obliged to his order.

I wore a sad look on my face as I dragged my feet to the gate where she dropped my things. “And where are you going to with your things?” The gatekeeper asked as soon as I got to his place.

“The boss’s brother asked her to evacuate this building before the boss returns, so open the gate for her so she’ll leave” Mia replied and I laughed slightly but quickly comport myself.

The gatekeeper tutted and gave her a pitiful look. I guess he saw what i did. “I can’t do that without the permission from my boss, so let her stay here and wait till he returns” he replied

What’s all these about, why are you here? The boss asked as soon as he got to the compound.

“I was asked to leave the house but begged to stay till you return so I’ll get the real order from you” I replied

Gabriel asked you to leave my house? He asked.

Not Gabriel, but your brother…I replied and he hissed before walking away. ‘Do you wanna tell me you don’t know that’s his brother’s name? and are you sure you lost your memory? Because you’re not different from the Matilda I once knew, I guess you’re only trying to pretend… Justin, the gatekeeper said.

Is it that obvious? I mean is my acting that bad? I asked and he nodded.
“Well! I did but I’ve regained it since a long time. And now that you’ve known, I swear if you rat me out, I’ll make you get sacked” I replied

You’re now like a sister to me, though I once hated you but I’ve grown to like you, so I’ve got no reason to rat you out. Just make sure you put more effort in your acting so you won’t get noticed… He replied and I put on a smile.

“I’ll get going now, I need to know my fate” I said and scurried away

“Go get your things back in,side” boss said immediately I entered and I saw his brother glare at me but who cares. I went further in,side and told Mia to go return my things back to my room as ordered by the boss though I’m the boss in my own.

WEEKS LATER
Everything’s been going on well lately and no one has ever been on my nerves again ever since the boss warned them not to. The mood got ruined when one of the boss’s doc-ments got missing and the blame was out on me.

Where did you put my doc-ment? He asked again but I remained adamant because I didn’t take anything.

“When have you ever lost anything so important in this house, and what do I know the doc-ment is meant for that I’d have to steal it? Ask someone to search the wh0le rooms if you’re that curious” I replied bravely

“Imma ask you for the very last time, where did you put my doc-ment? Look, if I lose this contract, I promise imma kill you” he yelled again but all I did was stand on my ground.

Search everyone’s room for me now!!! He yelled at his bodyguard and he ran off immediately while Gabriel followed. While I and other workers waited for their return as we were ordered to.

“We found it sir” Tom, his bodyguard said as he and Gabriel returned minutes later. “In Matilda’s bag” he added before the boss could even speak and all gazes was directed at me.

Explain how this got to your bag now, before I call the cops to come for you!!! He half yelled and I scoffed.

Why am I not surprised and even scared that I’m being set up? I said unfolding my folded arms. You can call on the cops for all I care, but if I ever receive punishment for what I didn’t do, I swear I’ll make life miserable for who so ever did this to me… I replied

“This is what you get for not answering me when I told you to let this lady go” Gabriel said as he took his seat.

I scoffed as I watched the boss call the cops. “Get on your knees and plead for his forgiveness” Gabrielle, one of we workers whispered to me.

“I want y’all to know I didn’t lose my memory, all I wanted was a shelter which I’ve been receiving untill now… I said and they looked at me again

What!!! The boss said obviously shocked at my sudden confession

“I’m sure you know who I am. I’ll be coming back for you all. You may send me back to the street when I return, but I’ll make sure I find the real culprit and hand him or her to the cops before leaving your house. I really don’t mind being a beggar once again” I said even though I’ll be sad to be one again.

What’s with this bluffing? Gabriel asked and I shot him a glare.

The cops arrived minutes later and cuffed my hands as they’ve been told to.

I followed them as instructed but not without taking a glance at my two suspects.

I was about turning after looking at them when the door opened. And what’s going on here, where do you think you’re taking her to? I heard the person say and I turned immediately on recognizing the voice.
