EPISODE 83

“I kept praying you wouldn’t see my sandals. God! I feel so embarr@ssed just thinking about that day now.” Kathleen said, covering her face in embarr@ssment while Pete hooted with laughter as he helped her get into the car after their dinner.

“I actually didn’t see it initially. Amanda was the one who pointed it out to me. But it’s not a big deal, it’s normal for footwears, especially sandals to cut.” Pete @ssured her as he took out his phone and started the voice recorder. He liked this talkative p@rt of her he was getting to see, even though he knew it was because she had had too much to drink. Because the wine had been sweet, she had kept drinking without realizing the alcohol content was a bit high, and he had deliberately chos£n not to tell her the wine was alcoholic.

“It’s only normal when it’s not your own sandals that got bad like that.” Kathleen said grudgingly, “I felt even more embarr@ssed when you gave Sharon money to get me a new one. I really wish you had just pretended not to see it.”

“And have Amanda nag my ears off? She wanted me to do something about it, and I couldn’t say no.” Pete explained.

“I see. It just made me feel like I’m always seeing you whenever I’m disorg-nized. I didn’t want you to start thinking I’m clumsy or something. Take the first time we met in your office for example… I didn’t even have my bath because I woke up late and I was in a hurry to meet up for the meeting.” Kathleen complained with a flu-shed face ma-king Pete chuckle as he started the car and drove off.

“Oh! I almost forgot about that. You barged into my office thinking you had missed the meeting.” Pete said with a grin as he remembered the surprise on her face when he had turned to look at her, “I remember how speechless you were when you saw my handsome face.” Pete teased, ma-king her snort.

“Speechless? I was just surprised because I wasn’t expecting someone like you. Although you looked very handsome and all the ladies in the office were talking about you. Who would have thought we would be hanging out like this weeks later?” Kathleen asked ma-king him smile.

“So you didn’t bathe yet you looked so beautiful? I wonder how many times you have come to the office without bathing.” Pete said thoughtfully ma-king her giggle.

“A couple of times actually. But that was when I was living in my former ap@rtment. Now I bathe everyday since I have my own bathroom and there is always water here.” Kathleen said with a yawn.

“That’s good to know. I was beginning to wonder if you had your bath before coming out with me today.” Pete teased.

Kathleen giggled as she hit his arm playfully, “Don’t be like that.”

“I’m glad you no longer live in that horrible ap@rtment though. I can’t imagine how you managed to stay there.” Pete said with a scowl.

Kathleen had a smile on her face as she rested her head on the window and tried not to doze off. It was few minutes to eleven alre-ady, and even though she was feeling very tired and wanted to take off her clothes and just sleep, she felt like she had just had the best outing of her life.

She had not only gotten to know more about him, it also felt like they had both ba-red their souls to each other, and somehow they now un-derstood each other more. She finally had to admit to herself that she had misjudged him a lot, and he was a lot more considerate and thoughtful than she had @ssumed, and she was beginning to respect the kind of person he was.

“It’s good we went out like this today. At least I know better now. I used to think you were like an Antichrist.” Kathleen said after sometime, ma-king Pete spare her a glance.

“Me? Antichrist? Why would you think that?”

“Since I started working for you I’ve been unable to go to church, and I don’t pray as much as before. Not to forget those unholy dreams I keep having about you.” Kathleen murmured.

“Unholy dreams?” Pete asked curiously.

“No. Don’t ask me. I don’t want to tell you about that. It’s too embarr@ssing.” Kathleen murmured ma-king Pete grin, since he could guess what she meant by unholy. So she was dreaming of him?

“Okay. I’m sure you’ll tell me about it when you’re re-ady.” Pete said with a broad smile.

“Don’t tell me you’re sleeping alre-ady.” Pete asked when she didn’t say anything after sometime.

“I’m trying not to sleep off.” She confessed drowsily.

“Why not sing? You said you’re a choirister, right?” Pete asked, not wanting her to sleep off.

“Yeah… Okay. Although I’m feeling kind of sleepy…”

“You’re actually feeling ti-psy not sleepy.” Pete corrected with a chuckle.

“ti-psy? Isn’t that how you feel when you take alcohol? But I didn’t take alcohol.” She said with a frown.

“You did. The wine you kept gulping down has alcohol in it.” Pete explained.

“Oh my! Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked as she turned wi-de accusing eyes to glare at him.

“And miss this show you’re putting up? No way! Don’t worry, just keep talking. Once we get home you can go to be-d.” Pete @ssured her.

“Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drun!ken also, that thou mayest look on their n-kedness!” Kathleen quoted.

“Why do I feel like you know a Bible verse for everything?” Pete asked with an amused smile, “Don’t worry though, I don’t have any plans of seeing you n-ked yet.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to see anything?” Kathleen asked, wiggling her brows at him suggestively.

Pete chuckled, he was certain she was going to die of embarr@ssment when she eventually listens to the voice note. He only wished he could make a video of her, but he was driving so he couldn’t, “I want to, but not yet.”

“Good. Because I’m not showing you anything.” Kathleen said with a yawn.

“Kat?”

“Hm?” She asked, turning in her seat to look at him again with droopy eyelids.

“I think I’m beginning to fall for you.” Pete confessed.
_______________

Ella who had spent the entire day with Tracy, shopping and seeing movies at the cinema, was very exhausted as she got out of her car and headed for the door. Tracy’s husband Ayo had left on a business trip, so she had had to keep Tracy company.

She sniffed the air as she took off her shoes and opened the door, “Where is that aroma coming from?” She asked Angela who had just rushed to the door when she heard the door open.

“It’s coming from the Kitchen. Uncle Ken is cooking.” Angela said excitedly ma-king Ella smile as she handed Angela her bag.

“Take my bag to the room, let me see what he is up to.” She said as she ti-ptoed to the kitchen.

“Don’t bother to sneak up on me, I can alre-ady perceive the scent of your perfume.” Ken warned in amusement.

“Good evening to you too. What are you doing here? I thought you said you were going to be busy all day with your clients in the mainland?” Ella asked as she walked over to stand beside him so she could see what he was preparing.

“I said all day, not all night. I got back around 8 PM and figured I st©p by to see you before heading home. I wanted to surprise you, but Angela said you were out with your best friend so I decided to wait. I got hungry while waiting and decided to fix myself something to eat while I wait for you.” Ken said with a shrug ma-king Ella scowl.

“So the food you’re cooking isn’t for me? Here I was thinking you were ma-king a ro-mantic dinner.” She said with a scoff.

“Eya. I thought you’d eat before coming back. Don’t worry though, the noodles I made will be enough to go round.” He @ssured her before pu-lling her close by the w@!st to k!ssher cheek.

“You could have just asked Angela to fix you something to eat. Besides there is soup and stew in the freezer.” Ella complained.

“I wanted you to walk into the kitchen and see me cooking. I heard some ladies get turned on when they watch their men cook.” Ken said with a wi-nk.

“Not me. I should get out of these clothes. I will join you soon as I freshen up.” Ella said as she headed for her room.

“Should I come and help you?” Ken called after her with a grin.

“I will let you know when I need your help.” Ella said with a giggle as she walked into her be-droom and quic-kly took off her clothes before walking into her en suite bathroom. She placed a shower cap over her head before turning on the shower.

Few minutes later she stepped out of her be-droom wearing a short Mickey mouse night go-wn and joined both Ken and Angela at the dining table.

“So how was your day?” Ken asked as he ate.

“It was fun. We saw a couple of movies, bought a lot of clothes and toys for our baby who isn’t even up to four months old in the wo-mb yet. Ate lots of sweet things, gossiped, etc. What about you?” She asked as she ate.

“The usual. Nothing fun about work, but I took my client and her kids out. It was good to see the kids smile.” Ken said with a shrug.

“Angela, do you mind taking your food to your room? I need to speak with him pri-vately.” Ella asked politely.

“Okay ma.” Angela said as she stood up and excused herself, leaving Ken who was now staring at Ella curiously.

“So I was thinking about something.” Ella started, and then cleared her throat, “Your brother… Won’t you like to find him?”

“No. I don’t want to.” Ken said with a shake of his head and continued eating again.

“I think you should. He was just a kid back then and….”

“Bella, No. Let’s not talk about this, plea-se. I really don’t want to.” Ken said ma-king Ella raise her hands in surrender.

“Fine. But just think about it.” Ella said with a small smile as she reached out to pat his hand which was resting on the dining table, “I wonder if my brother and Kat are back from their d@t£.” Ella said, changing the subject.

“It’s late, they should be back alre-ady.” Ken said as he glanced at his wristwatch.

“They look so good together. Did I show you their pictures?” Ella asked taking out her phone and going to her ph0to gallery. Chidi had s£nt her a couple of ph0tos he had sh0t them using his iPhone.

“Wow! This is Kathleen? She looks really different.” Ken asked in awe ma-king Ella raise a brow.

“Yeah, why? Are you regretting giving up your playboy lifestyle alre-ady? Do you want to go for her?” She asked dryly ma-king Ken chuckle.

“So I can’t admire a lady in peace again because I’m d@t!ngyou?”

“I’m the only lady you should admire. Or would you like me to start admiring other men too?” Ella asked, ma-king Ken scowl.

“That reminds me, I hope you’ve deleted Abel’s number from your phone?” Ken asked ma-king Ella laugh out loud.

“No. Why?”

“Delete it. I don’t like the way he was looking at you that day.” Ken said ma-king her laugh even more.

“I won’t. I need his number so I can call him whenever you feel ill.”

“Don’t worry, I will give you the number of a female doctor you can call.” Ken suggested.

“No. I don’t want a female doctor attending to you. I don’t want a female anything attending to you.” Ella said ma-king Ken sigh.

“Have you always been this jealous and possessive or is it a recent development?” Ken asked with mock surprise.

Before Ella could give an appropriate cl@p back, Ken’s phone started ringing and he glanced at the screen guiltily before placing it on silent. Ella observed what he did, but said nothing and busied herself with her food as she wondered who had called him.
