She locked the door then said;
“Haman, just because you used to screw me and I used to like you doesn’t mean that you do whatever you want in here; I am the boss and I decide what I decide. I called you to my office but you took me for granted, I am going to give you a warning letter.”
“Hunie calm down, what came over you? Why are you being so rude?” I asked politely.
“Don’t honey me! Listen and listen good, from today henceforth, you are just like any other employee of this company, you address me as Madam. Are we together?” She replied rudely.
I suspected that she knew about me and Silvia but even then, it made no sense how she was okay with us working in the same office. I just took my briefcase, took out the resignation letter and together with the car keys, I gave them to Mwikali.
“I am sorry Mwikali but I cannot continue working under these conditions. Let me make it easier for you, instead of a warning letter, here is my resignation letter and the car keys. Thank you for everything you have done for me but this is the part where I say goodbye. You are right, I should have never agreed to be your s€× toy, I am glad you opened my eyes and saw it fit to end everything.” I said bitterly then took my briefcase and walked out of the office.
Mwikali did not expect such kind of a reaction since she thought I would not sacrifice the car just like that. She watched me walk out but said nothing; everyone was staring at me wondering what was going on.
I met Sly at the reception and I called her aside then said;
“I know you went to call Mwikali for me and probably told her I was rude to you, hope you are now happy that I resigned and you have the wh0le office to yourself. Anyways, I called you to let you know that I know your little dirty secret with Mwaura. Just keep off my life if you want me to continue keeping it a secret.”
Sly was left speechless, of all the things, she never expected that I knew about her and Mwaura. She tried to speak but her l-ips were just vibrating.
“As long as you stay away from me, nobody shall ever know that you are screwing Edwin in his brother’s car.” I added then walked away leaving her in deep thoughts.
I knew there would be consequences for my actions but it felt good to have broken the ties between Mwikali and Silvia. I felt free once again after being Alsace to my own actions for so long.
Though jobless, I was not broke, I had some few coins in my account. Mwikali had been sending me money back when we were together so my savings account had enough capital to begin a good business.
I took a taxi back to my house and met Lucy seated at the balcony. She was with Viola busking in the sun.
“Uncle Ham, are you okay?” Viola asked after she noted that I looked sad and I was not cheerful like she was used to.
I took her in my arms and lifted her to my chest trying to force a smile then said;
“Yes dear, I am fine just that I am tired.”
“Go take a warm shower then get some rest uncle Ham. When you wake up I will teach you a new game which we shall be playing.” She said smiling.
I placed her down, gave her a peck, then said smiling;
“Okay dear, let me go and get a shower then sleep for a few hours; I can’t wait to learn the new game.”
I then looked at Lucy trying to fool her with a broad fake smile but she could see anger written all over my face behind the smile.
“Viola, go and play with your friends, I will call you when uncle Ham wakes up.” She said to Viola.
After Viola was gone, she took my hand and pulled me gently towards my house then asked;
“What’s wrong Ham?”
“Nothing dear, I just feel tired.” I replied trying to force a smile.
“You might have fooled Viola but you can’t fool me Ham, I know how the tired you looks like. I can tell that something or someone got you upset and you don’t wanna tell me about it.” She said looking me in the eyes.
“I lost my job dear; I resigned.” I said abruptly.
She did not expect such kind of a reply, she just took her hands to her mouth and became speechless.
“Were you out of your mind dear? How could you resign such a good job?” She then asked.
“I will be be fine dear. I will begin my own business with the little I had saved.” I said after I saw how worried she was.
“Go take a rest dear, I will see you when you wake up; I don’t want to stress you any further.” She said then stood by the door and watched me walk into the house.
I went to the shower, took a warm shower then took my laptop and began searching for a good business to start. I could not get sleep due to thoughts but I had to convince Lucy and her daughter that I needed to get some sleep so that I could get some time alone. I settled on a certain business which was favourable for my capital and began making the budget.
I got so consumed by the task I was doing, I did not realize that it was getting late; night had began falling. At around 8pm, Lucy walked into my house and found that I was still in the bedroom; I had not locked my door.
She was used to every part of my house except my bedroom; she always came to help me with the dirty dishes, clothes and other house chores so she knew my house like the palm of her hands.
She tried calling out my name but I was having my earphones in the ears as I watched some business cl¡ps on my laptop, I did not hear her. After calling out for so many times, she decided to come and see why I was not answering her.
She walked into my bedroom and I did not notice her. She came and sat beside me and that was when I felt the mattress sink and I looked up; she had scared me.
“You have scared the hell out of me!” I said as I took off the earphones.
“I called you like ten times and you did not respond.” She replied smiling.
“Am sorry, I was watching some business cl¡ps here.” I said.
“It’s okay dear, I just came to check on you.” She said smiling.
Lucy was so caring, loving, charming and above all, generous. I just could never want to break her heart at any single point. The reason why I never even touched her despite the many times we found ourselves in favourable situations for a one night stand was because she used to remind me of my girl Christina and we had grown a mysterious, amazing friendsh¡p.
She was of exact size as Christina was and also the kindness and generosity of her heart was just like that of hers. Lucy’s smile was as bright as that of Christina as well and her cle-vage resembled Christina’s beautiful curves and edges. Were it not that her face was totally different, I would say Christina was still alive.
“I got a business which I feel is worth investing.” I said smiling lightly…
