Diana and Peter came in just then.

Peter saw the tension and excused himself.

“Diana,are you alright?”Maggie asked Diana, she’s more worried about her than David who’s still giving them a stony look.

“Am fine Mom?”she said lowly.

“What’s all this about,can someone please explain this commotion to me?!”Tricia was asking again going to stand in the middle like a judge.

“David,am really sorry, I.. I..this is so…am very sorry, I shouldn’t have done this”Diana stammered, fighting to look up at his face.

“Wait!.. you guys are confusing me,what’s all this about Diana?!”Tricia asked looking from one to the other.

“You know,I should have known,I was such a fool,Harry said something about this but I was too dump to understand what he’s talking about!,now Mom I need an explanation of who this slut is?!!”David shouted pointing at Diana.

“What?!”Diana shrieked.
Diana’s heart broke into pieces, very tiny pieces.She slumped to the ground as her knees became too weak to carry her,her tears didn’t hesitate to soak her cheeks.

“No son!..don’t refer to her with such disdainful word!!”Maggie shouted making to slap him again, but he ducked away quickly.

“David how could you?!..am so dissappointed in you, what has she done to deserve your insult?!!”Tricia knelt down beside Diana to console her.Her heart hurted for her friend, she could have taken an oath that such a word wouldn’t be mentioned by David, at least not to Diana.

She was really struck by shock, Maggie came around them and held Diana close.

“Am really sorry for putting you through this mess!”she said,her eyes watered with tears,she didn’t control it as it ran helplessly down her cheeks,this is all her fault.

“I shouldn’t have allowed this happen in the first place,come on let’s go in,side”Tricia said drawing her up,she stood reluctantly and they went in,side together.

David stood watching with counted patience,all he needs is an explanation for all of it.

“I understand you should be angry,but I thought you are more reasonable than this”Maggie started,went to sit down,then continued”I did what I thought was best for you…..”

“Mom!..this is no best for me!!, how could you do this to me? now look at what you have done, someone is against me for no reason at all and am certain he’s the one trying to fall my company while she holds me down with her……”his voice trailed off.

He ran his fingers through his hair and grinded his teeth to withhold anger.

“If you had gotten yourself a wife,why would I stress myself hooking you up with a total stranger though she and Tricia are best friends but it doesn’t guarantee that she’s good,I had no choice and you left me with non”Maggie said taking her glass of wine between her fingers.

She took a sip of her drink and cleared her throat.

“And…I don’t think she has anything to do with those stolen files if that’s what you meant,she doesn’t look hungry to me”

“Look at you mom!..must she look hungry to tell you she’s after the money”David snorted.

“I just don’t think so,the investigation is still on so we will find out the truth anyways,can you please calm down for now?”Maggie questioned him.

He shoved his hands into his side pockets and knodded.
“Am going home”he managed walking towards his car with quick steps.

“David?”Maggie called.
He turned to look over at her face.

“Am sorry, you also have to apologise to her,that word was too harsh, she never wanted to do it in the first place”she said standing up to go in,side, she’s getting chilly already.

“Mom,I… can’t,bye!”he got into his car and drove out.

Maggie should have known that apologising is the last thing his son will do.
She felt uneasy,she has gotten Diana emotionally drained.

The lady was only trying to help her,she shouldn’t have putted her through it.

What if their hearts are now involved?

She ignored that warning ringing a bell in her head and joined them in,side.

“How did he find out?”Tricia asked Diana as she handed her a cup of milk.

“I.. Melvin called”she took a gulp of tea and took her lower lip between her teeth”I was talking to him on the phone and I didn’t know he was listening”she finished her tea and placed the cup on the lower cupboard.

“I feel that he heard the wrong part of the story that’s why he’s behaving like that,am so sorry Diana,it’s all my fault”Tricia said taking Diana’s hand.

“It’s fine Trish, I accepted to do this myself… I just don’t want him to see it the wrong way”

“I also feel guilty right now,he has the right to be angry, he’s going through a lot…I mean the company is going down day after day and now..”Maggie said as she walked into the kitchen,she threw her hands up to emphasize the situation at hand.

“It’s okay Mom, nothing is ever going to happen to the company,I mean it’s his legacy,I trust David won’t go easy on whosoever is doing that to him”Tricia said.

“I pray so honey”she turned to look at Diana”am sorry for all this,I wish you two had met on better terms,you are an awesome person Diana”

Diana could only stare at her hands which she folded on her laps.

“I wish so too mom,I mean she changed my brother, and I think David really likes her”Tricia putted in.

“I…I will go home tomorrow”That’s the only thing Diana could say.

“Home?… where?”Maggie asked .

Diana smiled weakly,she understands the woman doesn’t know which home she’s referring to,she had always called David’s house her home,now she wants to go to the home she belongs.

“To my parents”she clearified swallowing nervously.

“Oh!”Maggie growled.

“Isn’t it too early to leave tomorrow?”Tricia asked.

“Well…yeah,but I just miss my mom”she replied.

“It’s okay, I will go get your bag for you tomorrow morning,hope you will forgive me for making this holiday a horrible one”Maggie said smiling.

“No mom, it’s a wonderful holiday,I enjoyed it I swear”Diana laughed huskily.

Maggie drew her into her arms;”you are a wonderful person Diana, and I will like to meet your family,hope you will allow that?”

“Yes mom,that would be awesome,you don’t even need permission to do that,just tell me when you’re ready and I’ll take you to them,my mom will be glad to see you”Diana said.

“I don’t think your mom will like a drama queen”Tricia said laughing at Maggie’s reaction.

“Hello young lady, you’re talking to your mother… remember?”Maggie told her.

Tricia rolled her eyes”but that’s true,at least I have met her, she’s not the too many talks type”

“Then I will help her do the talking”Maggie said and they all laughed loudly.

“Am happy that we have gotten over tonight’s unfortunate event,so let’s call it a day young ladies”she added.

“Oh yeah mom,am really tired, goodnight”Tricia said giving Maggie a peck on her cheek.

Diana did the same.

“Though it’s stupid to say,am glad that all this has finally come to an end”Tricia said as soon as Maggie closed the door behind her.

“Well…yeah… I.. I just feel sorry for David”Diana said.

“But he went extra miles,he was too harsh on you, he could have listened to get the details”

“Mmm…if I where in his shoes, I might’ve done worse than that, I think I deserve what he said to me”

“No Diana, please don’t say that, you are not a slut, please!”

“But do you know what I did Trish?,I….”

“Stop Diana, none of this is your fault, and you are not a slut, I know David said that out of anger but am so dissappointed in him, you don’t deserve that, even if he doesn’t like you, he doesn’t have the right to call you ugly names…

I mean, you spent three weeks with him answering his wife and helping him get out of his shell is enough work that I can’t imagine myself doing, he should be grateful to you”Tricia said taking the tea cups to the washing basin.

“If you say so, and….”she shrugged”This holiday is a remarkable one babe”she smiled as they found their way into Tricia’s room.

“Am sorry to ask this but..Diana?”

Diana looked at her,then she asked further.
“Do you love my brother?”

Diana wasn’t surprised, she has always known that Tricia’s too forward.

She is the kind that will go straight to her crush and ask “you are crushing on me right?” then tell him “fine let’s roll”

And she doesn’t seem to care about dating fifty people at once. If she wants to end a relationsh¡p, she will simply make the old guy meet the new one and the relationsh¡p is gone, she never cared.

“Well…. you see… I….”she didn’t know how to put the words and her phone ringed at the right time,she heaved a sigh of relief and excused herself.

“I will wait for you in my room, let’s share a bed so we will do girls talk tonight”Tricia offered smiling as she went in,side her room.

Diana returned the smile and took a few stairs down before looking at the phone to see the caller.

It’s her course mate, Greg.

Whatever made him remember her today.

She picked the call and they talked for one hour plus fifteen minutes before he said goodbye and hung up.

Diana sat down on the staircase weighed down by what took place just hours ago, she never wanted it to go this way, what if he thinks that she has a hand on what’s happening to his company?…”God I pray not”she sighed.

She didn’t know when tears ran down her cheeks, she noticed when it touched her l-ips and she tasted the salty warm flavor of tear.

She shut her eyes and allowed her mind travel through the memory lane of the few weeks she spent with David which has now become a broken bond.

She wiped her face with the hem of her dress and stood to go in,side.

She turned to find Tricia watching her, her hand was on the railing and she inclined her head to balance on her shoulder, her posture told her that she had been standing there for at least thirty minutes or more than .

She moved to her and took her hand “let’s go grab some sleep babe”Tricia said wiping her own tears.

David paced around his living room with a glass of whiskey at hand.

He threw away the glass and grabbed the bottle of whiskey, he smashed it against the wall, he had always lived alone, happily.

Why does it seem hærd to do now just because of Diana.
She only deceived him right?

“Why can’t I get over you?”he asked and it echoed in his ear over and over again before dying .

He should have taken Peter home with him, at least he might be less lonely,even if it means sleeping over at the quarter.

He had tried working with his laptop as he has always done before she came into his life,but he still can’t concentrate.

He even went to swim and now he’s all cold but she seems to be locked in his head.

Now, after drinking a full bottle of whiskey, his head is spinning like roller coaster but she’s still there smiling s€×ily at him.

She had touched every aspect of his life in a few weeks,his office,his kitchen,his bedroom,his heart…

“Gosh! we performed magic together, I… I had thought we… David you are crazy, stop thinking!”he wailed staggering backwards,he fell on his couch and tried being quiet for a while.

“Diana why?”He whispered to himself shutting his eyes to push away her image, but she’s there in the darkness of his mind, she shone brightly, hot tears wetted his cheeks.

His eyes stuttered open.”how could you do this to me?”

His heart broke as he fell limbly on the floor.
The memories of them baking in the kitchen, making love on his bed,on the dinning,in his office, the pool flooded into his mind.

He allowed it linger there,he gave a weak smile and took the memories to dream land.
He’s never going to be alright without her, he’s sure of that.

“Cheers to a successful job and more money in advance!!”three men sat around a table, all in black merried over their successful job.

“I told you guys,that we will do it,now look at it,I told you that Diana came at the right time,when the man is busy loving her,we will be busy playing tricks on his business while she plays tricks in his heart”One of them said laughing.

“Yes,you are correct, it only remains forty five percent of his shares, all we have to do now is hire another lady, an experienced one in the field of work with him and I suggest his Personal assistant will be of good use,then we will get a lawyer”the second person said scratching his head.

“Mmm…what’s the use for a lawyer?..let’s simply use his personal assistant against him on the next meeting, if it works and we get all the forty five percent remaining then we will not need a lawyer but if it fails then we put it into consideration” the third person offered taking a big swallow of wine.

“Oh yes!… you have a point there,and I hope you guys have thrown away the gloves you used on that girl, I don’t want any of those stupid investigators nosing around to get a hint of the girl’s dead”the second person said again folding his hands on his broad chest as he watched them speculatively.

“We didn’t just throw it away,we burnt it,the only problem we have now is money to hire a car for our next mission”the third person said.

“That’s not a problem, I will look for a way to extort more money from him, and you guys should get ready, because he’s going through emotional trauma now, it’s the right time to hit on him, I will look for a way to make the next meeting come up sooner” the second person assured and raised his glass.

The others did the same and they drank merrily.

“Waiter!!…more drinks!!!”they shouted laughing loudly.
