Defiled (episode 8 & 9)
Trials and crisis test the strength of any relationsh¡p. If your relationsh¡p can withstand the storms of life and come out stronger, then nothing might be able to tear you and your partner apart ever. No one prays for bad things to happen in their lives but it’s quite unfortunate that they do happen regardless as life consists of both good and bad times. In Belinda and Sam’s case, it seemed as though they were never going to catch a break from the constant storms in their marriage. Just when the couple felt they had moved on from every trauma and pain from the past, another misfortune came knocking on their door.
Immediately the doctor broke the sad news of Belinda’s miscarriage to Sam, he almost lost his mind. At that moment, it felt as though his heart had been punctured with a sharp knife and was left bleeding. He didn’t know how to react to the sad news other than stand there in total shock. Despite being emotionally drained, he still managed to inquire about his wife’s wellbeing. “Doctor, how is my wife doing? Is she going to be ok?” He curiously asked and was quickly assured by the doctor that Belinda would be fine.
At that moment, the wh0le world seemed as though it was against the couple. When the doctor left, Sam began to question why God keeps permitting tragic things to happen to them and asked God what his true intentions were. “I don’t understand anymore Lord, why us all the time? Why can’t my wife and I catch a break from these tragic incidents? What did we ever do to deserve these constant misfortunes and ill fate? What did we ever do wrong? My wife doesn’t deserve all she’s going through after her dedication and devoted service to you when she was still a spinster till this very moment. We know the battle isn’t to the swift but to God that shows mercy and grace but does it mean that being good isn’t rewarding anymore? I know your ways are different from ours but this wh0le thing isn’t making much sense to me anymore. I love you so much Lord but I’m so tired and don’t know how long I can continue keeping it all together. Please help us” he soberly said. That day was probably one of the toughest days of their lives.
After sobbing for a while in the corridor, Sam walked into his wife’s room to see how she was doing and when he walked in, he found her crying bitterly. That sight was heartbreaking for Sam to behold and without hesitating, he laid with Belinda on the bed and hugged her. “Babe it’s ok, stop crying. God knows best and is still in control” he soberly said as he patted her back. As much as Sam tried to calm Belinda down, she didn’t want to be consoled. She cried and cried and cried till he found himself shedding tears too.
“What did I do wrong? Why is all these bad things happening to me? I thought I would have a happy life but my reality has been far from being completely happy. Why me? Why my baby? What did we do to deserve this constant misfortunes? This isn’t fair” Belinda said as tears fell uncontrollably from her eyes. Sam didn’t want to ignite her pain by asking God questions too but rather, he kept consoling her by telling her that everything was going to be alright. The couple cried in the hospital room all day and didn’t want to accept the reality that their unborn baby was gone. So sad!
After what seemed like forever, the couple finally left the hospital in the evening and went back home. Immediately Belinda stepped her feet into the lonely house, her heart shattered and she burst into tears over again. This time around, she wailed nonstop. Sam could feel her soul and pain in every scre-m. She laid on the floor and cried her eyes out till she was almost at the verge of fainting. Sam wrapped his arms around her and held her extremely tight. They stayed that way for hours sobbing till she finally slept off in her husband’s arms.
It was such a relief to Sam that Belinda was now asleep and no longer crying. He didn’t want to wake her up by taking her to the bedroom so he just stayed put and kept running his fingers through her hair. They laid on the floor together till he managed to sleep off too.
Breaking the sad new to their parents was a tough thing to do. Belinda’s mum came visiting the next day to comfort her daughter after losing her unborn child. The elderly woman prepared food and spoon fed Belinda because she was too tired to feed herself due to the constant crying since the day before. Sam had to leave to the office to take care of some important issues at work so he left the two women at home.
As Belinda’s mum spoon fed her, she began to cry again. “It’s ok my daughter, stop crying” the elderly woman calmly said as she cleaned the tears from Belinda’s eyes. “Mummy, I’m tired. This isn’t the life I imagined for myself when I was still a spinster. I thought God loves me but with all that has happened in my life since I got married, I can only but question God’s love for me. This isn’t fair mum, I don’t deserve all this” she soberly said.
On seeing the broken state of Belinda, her mum almost joined her in crying but had to be strong for her daughter. She wiped the tears from Belinda’s face and held her cheek. “It’s ok my child, God knows best. I know it might be difficult for us to know why God allow certain things to happen in our lives but I promise you that It’s for a reason. God’s ways are not our ways and his thoughts are certainly not our thoughts. It might take till eternity for us to understand why God allows certain things to happen to his beloved children. Most times, it doesn’t makes sense to you and I but God knows what he’s doing. The strongest people face the toughest battles and God won’t give you anything you can’t handle. Don’t you know that the devil is always up on his toe seeking for ways to bring down a person after God’s own heart? The devil is the enemy after your home because he hates were there’s peace and happiness. If only God could open your eyes to see the enemy’s devises against your marriage on a daily basis: the plots, plans and schemes to make life extremely miserable for you and your husband. If you could see these things, then you will gives thanks to God daily for every second you are alive here on earth. When God sent his son Jesus to lay his life for us, every power and dominion over the affairs of this world was conferred to us as God’s children. Jesus is seated at the right hand side of his father and can no longer interfere in the affairs of mankind so this is your battle to fight and not God’s battle. You have already been equipped with every weapon of warfare you need to put the devil in his place once and for all in your marriage. You can’t continue to be maltreated by the same person whom God gave you dominion over. Stop crying and take charge of your marriage and life. Don’t fold your hands and let the devil continue to inflict pains on you. It breaks my heart to see you like this but I know God isn’t dead. Wipe your tears away my child, everything is going to be alright” the elderly woman said.
Immediately Belinda’s mum was gone talking, it felt as though a heavy burden lifted from Belinda’s heart. For a split second, all her pains seemed to go away. Despite the fact that she was still hurting within, there was this happiness that came with the revelation her mother had just opened her eyes to. Both women spoke for a little while before Belinda’s mum left after preparing dinner for her daughter. It was such a refreshing visit that changed so many things!
After that day, Belinda stopped crying about the loss of her unborn baby. Despite the fact that the pain was inherent, she didn’t want to let it weigh her down anymore. She started life from where it stopped but this time around, she was no longer willing to show the devil any mercy in her marriage.
Due to the advice given to Belinda by her mum, she began to take her prayer life very seriously and Sam wasn’t excluded in the drilling. The couple deliberately worked on their relationsh¡p with God and began to draw more closer to him. They prayed together every morning before leaving to work and in the evening before bed time. They wrote daily scriptures which they meditated and memorized to enhance their literacy of the bible.
Gradually, the two lovebirds began to fall in love all over again with God and his word. Without even realizing, they began to last much longer in their prayer and devotion to God. From praying for few minutes to praying for almost an hour. This drastic turn around in the couple’s relationsh¡p with God gave Belinda great confidence to put the enemy in his rightful place whenever he tried raising his ugly head in her marriage. This new approach to life made the couple glow and love each othe even more despite all they went through in the past that broke them.
Since after Belinda’s miscarriage, the couple have been trying to conceive again but it wasn’t happening. They had faith in God and never allowed their Faith to waiver despite not seeing the answers to their prayers. It was a tough test of their faith but they remained positive no matter what.
Days, weeks, months and years passed but still no cry of a baby in their home. It’s been 3 years now since Belinda and Sam got married but no child was forth coming. Unlike before, Belinda would have constantly cried herself to sleep but this time around, she wasn’t letting her circ-mstances steal her joy or make her doubt God’s faithfulness. Instead of crying, she praised. Instead of murmuring, she prayed. Instead of complaining, she gave thanks and instead of finding faults, she reminded grateful. Despite everything that could have broken them as a couple, they remained strong and even more in love with each other. Life remained the same for the couple till God showed up with a miracle.
It happened that Belinda went for her usual medical check up just to ascertain the state of her overall health. When she arrived at the hospital, she sat in reception waiting to be called upon. Finally, it was her turn to go in for check up so she walked majestically into the doctor’s office.
As the doctor checked her body parts with the use of a scan, he couldn’t help but notice something strange in,side her body. The doctor zoomed the scan to have a closer look of what seemed like two heads in Belinda’s tummy. Shocked and confused on what was truly happening, the doctor began to put all puzzles together in his mind. Immediately the reality of the situation at hand dawned on the doctor, he voiced out. “Mrs Samuel, are you pregnant?” The doctor asked out of nowhere and Belinda reluctantly replied “No doctor, I’m not. I think I’m just bloated “.
Unable to hold back the truth for another second, the doctor dropped a shocking revelation; “Mrs Samuel, you are carrying twins in your womb. You might not know this but you are pregnant”.
Shocked to the brim, Belinda scre-med “What!”.
