don’t follow bad friends, don’t collect food from anyone, always be respectful to your teachers, don’t join bad gang, don’t carry your bad attitude there, remember you are going somewhere I will not be able to go with you”
My mom drawled and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes 🙄🙄
With the way she was talking you would think I’m going to the University, it’s highschool, ordinary secondary school
Okay maybe not ordinary high school
It’s state high school
A school only for rich kids
And unfortunately I’m not a rich girl
You may be wondering how I gained admission to the school
One thing you should have guessed about me is that I’m crazy
I don’t really like trouble
I just like the things that an average person will stay away from
It’s not my fault that thing is called trouble

There was one day, a sunny afternoon to be precise, I was going to one of the stalls in my area, to get cold water and sugar to soak my Garri jejely.
That was when I met a couple of bad boys Harrasing an old man, they were trying to rob the man, I was so angry

No matter how crazy I am, I can never ever hurt old people

And this two boys were doing that, they pulled the man’s beard and tapped his head, one of them dipped his hands into the man’s pocket and brings out the wallet, he counts the cash and smiled at his friend
The boys were tall and gangly but I used my athletic body and swiftness to my advantage.
I jumped on them and gave the boys the beating of thier lives
I made sure I broke thier arms, wound them and left them limping.
The old man thanked me profusely and gave me a card, he told me his son has a school and he will help me secure an admission in the school
He helped me

I wipe off an imaginary speck of dust away from my black jeans
I haven’t gotten my uniform yet so I wear a black top, black jean and a black and white sneakers, I also wear a black and white face cap
Mom doesn’t like the way I dress but I love dressing like a tomboy
“Erica, you forgot your food ”
My little sister Jules yelled, she opened the door and points me the flask, a blue and yellow flask I’ve been using since junior high, I like it because it looks small but can actually contains a lot of food😉
Jules(Juliet) is seven, she is my adorable little sister, she still beleives fairies are real and her aim in life is to be a Cinderella princess.
Honestly! I find it so hærd to tolerate her stupidity at times
So I’ll carry flask on my first day at school, but I can’t miss my lunch for any reason.
I collect it and put it in my bag
” you’re going Erica, you’re going to forget about me, you’ll have new friends, rich friends and you won’t want to hang out with me anymore ”
I turned my head and saw Nancy, my best friend, she was dressed in her school uniform and she was about to go to school, we are classmates in one local community school in my area but now that I’ve gained admission to a rich school, she naturally thinks I’ve changed
Her eyes were sad and dull
” come on Nancy, don’t be dramatic, you know I don’t like these rich kids, they are always spoilt and stupid ”
I said and her face brightens a little
” promise me you won’t make friends with any of them ”
Nancy said strongly
” I promise you, are you happy now ”
” yes I’m happy!!! ”
She hugged me tightly and bounced off to school, her two shukwu hairstyle dancing on her head.
I just smirked
Nancy may want to be a control freak but I’m Erica oladimeji
And no one controls me.
The hooting sound of a bike disturbs my thoughts
” what are you still waiting for, won’t you go and meet him ”
My mom yells at me and I went to meet him .
My mom had booked Paul’s bike for me the day before and as I sit on top of the bike I can’t stop thinking about those rich kids that will be dropped by thier personal drivers in a very expensive car.
I’m not a vain person so I wonder why I’m even thinking about that.
” are you set ”
Paul asks me and I nod my head before answering him .
Jules waves at me and I wave back reluctantly.

I alight the bike and I was about to enter into the school when I see a fancy black purse on the ground, I pick it up and find some cash in it.
I put it in my bag because technically I didnt steal it, I picked it💁.
My mouth open in awe 😮at the grand entrance of the school, If the exterior looks like this, then how would the interior look like.
This school is really nice ! 😮😮
The gate keeper open the door for me with respect, I was about to enter when I saw a girl looking frantically around, she seems to be looking for something.
I hope it’s not a purse!
Because that one is a goner!!
” please did you see my purse ”
She asks a guy that stood near the bus
” your father!! Do I look like a thief!!! Better look elsewhere for your purse before I design your face for you!!! ”
The guy barked angrily
The girl sits on the floor dejectedly, not minding how dirty her white uniform will become, she started crying

” miss, are you entering or not ”
The gate keeper asks me as he noticed that I’m still holding the gate
” my schoolfees”
The girl said before fresh tears flooded her eyes.
What sort of thing is this 😒
And I have mentally calculated the things I would do with this money 😒
I walk over to her
I zip open my bag, bring out the black purse and gave it to the girl.
She wiped her tears and stares at me in admiration, wondering how generous I am to return her purse.

I didn’t wait to hear the rest of it
I marched into the school angrily
Wondering why I’m such a fool to part with that money.

” we have a new student here today, if you want to know everything about the school, then you require the services of Miss Jayne Eji”
The principal yells after the assembly
I am so surprised
This big school and I am the only new student
today
It makes me remember my former school, where students will be trooping in,side every day.
Well the road to hell is wide

She stops in shock when she sees my face and I recognize her to be the girl I returned her purse.
” I wanted to thank you but you didn’t wait, thank you so much, I won’t charge you, come on let’s go, let me show you around ”
Na wah oh, so they even charge someone to show you around in this school.
I smile stiffly because I’m still angry with myself for returning that money.

Jayne says as we enter into a room painted white, it was very org-nized library with different books arranged neatly on the bookshelf
” Oliver is the librarian, he’s not hærd to recognize, he always wear this geeky spectacles, he always comes here every morning to make sure everything is…
Barely had she said the words when a nerdy looking boy shows up
” I’m Oliver, the ..um.. school librarian ”
He said shyly without making eye contact with me
Jayne took me to the laboratory, the sports field, the sick bay, the different halls in the school… , the cafeteria…
” what in God’s name is that ”
I point at a girl that came out of the toilet cleaning her mouth, a boy also walks out after her and he adjusted his trousers.
Jayne drags me away from there and whispers in my ears.
” Erica, listen to me, throughout your stay in this school, you must never go near that toilet ”
My curiosity was instantly piqued
” why ”
” because that place is a blow job centre, girls give guys blow jobs there and they get paid”

It makes me remember the dirty stinking toilet we have in community school

Jayne tipped her head and smiled
“I have never used that toilet if that’s what you’re thinking but I am Jayne Eji and someway and somehow, I always know everything that’s going on in the school ”

Everyone squealed in the delight at the arrival of one guy
Who does he think he is to March into the school right after the assembly
He is handsome, there’s no doubt about that, he walks with a kind of swagger, flying his collar like he owns the school

I ask Jayne
” every school has this hot guy that everyone is crushing on and that’s our prince in State high, Viktor Peterson, our very own Nigerian oppa, all the girls like him”
Jayne face colored
Shit she likes him too!
He may be the girl’s oppa but I don’t even like him.
He is too proud and arrogant
” which department are you ”
Jayne asks me, I don’t even need to ask about her own department, I already know we’re in the same department
” I’m arts ”
” perfect, you’ll be in my class ”
I and Jayne walked into the courtyard and I follow closely behind, the girl walks like flash and I find it so hærd to keep up with her
The way she locates everywhere is so surprising
” this is our class ”
Jayne announced breathlessly and I took a deep breath
This class is so different to the ones I’m used to, the desks were super upgraded and the class even has a projector
” list of people you should avoid, the back benchers, stay away from them, and ‘mother Jesus’, ( she points at a fair skinned girl holding a Bible and speaking in tongues) popularly known as madam spiritual, please stay away from her, she is going to frustrate you with sermons about how to live a holy life and bullshit like that ”
I look at Jayne in shock, how can she just call the Lord’s sermon a bull shit, she must have seen the angry look on my face because she hastily ammended
” look its not the way you think, madam spiritual, the girl is….
She faltered guiltily
” who is she ”
I ask Jayne while trying not to be so obvious as I point at a pretty girl, the girl looks so different, in fact her complexion is so different, her skin looks much more exotic, more creamier, like a perfect blend between brown and white
The girl looks normal enough but it was her actions that caught my attention , the way she placed three different dolls on her seat beside her.
” That’s Shanaya, miss weird, she is half Indian and half Nigerian, Shanaya never parts with her dolls, the teachers have tried to stop her but they never succeeds, the day a guy grabbed one of her dolls and called it a flimsy doll, do you know what she did to the guy( I started to talk but Jayne huffs and continues) she clawed his face with her long finger nails, damn her nails are so long, the guy’s face was bleeding ”
This girl is really weird, I’ll try my best to stay away from her and her stupid dolls
Not that I fear her or anything
But I don’t have long finger nails and I still value my eyes
A girl throws ice cream at me from the front row and smirks when it falls on my black top,
It falls on my belly and the cold ice-cream makes my skin cold, it also leaves a patch of yellow vanilla on my clothe
” that’s Sasha Grey, the bitch in this school, her father is f-cking rich, she is a wh-re and I’m sure she has slept with almost half of the guys in this school and the ice cream she threw on you is just her way of welcoming you ”
Jayne blurts out in hushed voice
I walk over to her table and she smirks arrogantly, her light skin is so fair, she is slim and tall, she has brown eyes and her hair is brown
” stay away from my table, you stinker ”
She huffed and bend down to take something from her bag.
How dare her
No one bullies me
” you know I also have a way of welcoming someone , brownie ”
Her face flares up in anger
” don’t you dare call me brow..
I zip open my school bag, bring out my food flask and dump my hot watery beans on her head
Brownie scre-ms in pain, trying to scoop the beans away from her body.
Her eyes were red as she walks out of the class to clean her clothe
Jayne looks at me in horror
” Erica, you’re in deep shit ”
Duh! I’m only angry at myself for wasting my precious lunch.

I look at the new girl in awe, she is the first person I’ve seen that doesn’t fear Sasha
Pardon me for not introducing myself
I’m Victoria Gates, a fat and clumsy girl
Most people don’t associate with me in the school, they bully me a lot.
But the moment I set my eyes on Erica, I have a feeling that everything is gonna be different.
The girl must be extremely rich to have the confidence to hurt Sasha
Imagine me having someone like Erica as my friend, no one will dare to bully me
The thought of it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
And with that thought in my head, I leave my seat and walk to the front towards her.

I watch a girl push her way forward from the middle row, she moved clumsily and accidentally tripped her leg on a locker, she falls down and sent the books on the locker flying around the class.
” watch it, fatty ”
A guy sneers and sends a hot stinging slap to the back of her head
Miss clumsy apologizes helplessly
” now, pick my books for me, you idiot”
The guy yells at her
” that’s enough ”
I say before realizing what I just said
” and who the hell are you to talk to me like that”

I walk over to him and give him a loud slap, I drag him with his tie to the front seat.
Damn! This guy is so weak
He is not even a worthy opponent!!!
” Erica, he’s Azeez, one of the most notorious guys in this school ”

Jayne whispers in my ears while Miss clumsy just has a frightened look on her face
Azeez blows me in the stomach making me reel in pain, he tries to punch me in the face but I hold his hand and twists it, and I use my other hand to deliver two slaps on his face.
” that’s for bullying her ”
I said viciously (pointing at miss clumsy)
Some of the class cheered me while others had a ‘I pity you ‘ look on thier faces
Suddenly a female teacher enters with Sasha, she has changed her uniform, she now wears a simple short gown
” why is there so much noise in the class, there’s a new student here ( her face w¡dens in surprise when she sees me twisting Azeez’s hand) I see, she has already started displaying her vagabond attitude on her first day at school, Erica!!!! ”
I drop Azeez’s hand immediately
Sasha’s eyes were filled with hatred, she tries to slap me but the teacher was quick to intervene.
” enough!!! Erica you’re nothing but a rebel, you deserve to be in detention but I’ll forgive you just this once because you’re a new student, Any time such thing repeats itself, you will be suspended or put in detention ”
” but Sasha threw me ice-cream in the first place and Azeez was bullying this girl ( I point at miss clumsy) ”
” and who made you the judge, do you know how much you hurt Sasha, do you know that she has burns on her skin, do you know who are parents are!!! ”
The teacher yells at me

The teacher said, getting frightened a little

When she hears what I have to say, I’m sure she’ll be shaking in her boots!
