Sequence 18
I slept peacefully especially that Tash didn’t cry too much at night she just woke up a few times and would go back to sleep after br-astfeeding, in the morning I instantly opened my eyes when I heard her cry.
“Hey, you are up my baby?” I said as I carried her Then started br-astfeed her.
“You look so beautiful my Tash, my gift from above, I will never stop thanking God for giving me you” I told her as if she could hear whatever I was telling her.
“You are finally up?” Chloe asked when she entered the room, I just nodded at her
Let me bath her before I go out I have a quick meeting will you be okay?” she asked
“It’s fine we are going to be fine since its just for a few hours I am sure Justine will come by later plus Betty is around .” she said
When she was done bathing and dressing her, Chloe went to take a bath as well so she could get ready for her meeting.
“You look amazing” I told Chloe when I entered the bedroom, she was wearing a grey office suit with pink heals, trust my sister for fashion advice she knows how to blend things together.
“Don’t I always look good?” she blushed
“You always do, mummy”
“I am going now will be back soonest, and least I forget the kids will be coming back today I am not sure what time” she said
After Chloe left i got my phone because I was surprised why Justine hadn’t called then I realized I had switched it off before sleeping. I switched it on and while it was loading there was a knock on the bedroom door.
“Come in” I said softly
“Hey my pretty ladies,” Justine said as he handed me a big box wrapped in a pink wrapping paper.
“Hey another gift for Tash?” I asked
“Well yes special babies deserve gifts everyday”
“Don’t spoil my baby for me” I laughed
“Open it, aren’t you curious to see whats in there?” he asked
I giggled, got the box and started opening it, in,side the box was a gift basket which had assorted items for Tash as I was trying to remove what was in the basket a small box wrapped in purple caught my eye so I got it and opened it.
“Oh my Justine whats this?” I asked looking surprised. in,side the small box was an elegant silver ring, “is this what I am thinking it is?” I thought
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you Pam I want to wake up to your face everyday marry me” he said
“Justine oh my this is a big step in my life especially now that I have a baby,” I said
“I will accommodate the both of you. You know I love Tash as if she is mine”
“I am scared Justine, Dan was this loving in the beginning then he changed, what if you change on me also, what happens if I take time to conceive and you leave me, “
“Pam I love you very much I have never felt this deep for anyone, I want to love you the right way, to show you that not all men are jerks”
“Can I at least have a little time to think about it?”
“ I don’t expect you to give me an answer right away, I need you to think about it, I am going to South Africa for a month and when I am back, you can let me know whether you will accept to be my wife or not”
“Okay in a month’s time I will be able to give you an answer” I sighed
“I hope you say yes, I will never disappoint you, give yourself a second chance at love” he smiled
Justine left an hour later and he promised to stay in touch every chance he got I knew I was going to miss him.
After he left I had so many things running through my mind concerning the proposal, I had the ring in my hands and I didn’t know what to do with it, it wasn’t just me I would have to think of if I decided to marry Justine.
What if his family hates the idea of him marrying a divorcee with a kid? What will people think that I rushed into the marriage? What of my daughter would he change on her if we had other children?
I had just had my lunch and was trying to doze when I heard some noise and I instantly knew who it was, the kids rushed into room shouting and they woke up Tash in the process.
“Shhhhh you guys you woke her up” I said. Then I carried her and they came to sit just next to me.
“Awwwwww this baby looks so cute she looks just like me” Emilie said
“No she looks like me” Ernest answered
“But you are a boy and the baby is a girl, she can’t look like you” she responded
“No, mummy said the baby looks like me” he said
“No she looks like me, can I hold her auntie Pam, please pretty please” she asked
Emilie is one funny kid, I just laughed when he said please pretty please while pouting.
“She is too small to be held” I said
“But you are holding her” Ernest said
“Well because I am her mother I can hold her anytime but you can only hold her when she grows up a little bit now you can watch her, talk to her and k-ss her cheek” I said
“I will k-ss her first, no I will k-ss her first, no it’s me” the kids went on and on till the door opened
It was Joe’s sister Stella, who entered,
“You two are making noise for the baby take your things to your room.” She said
“Hey! How’re you?” I asked
“Well I am good, congratulations I heard about the baby, when Chloe called us the kids couldn’t sit still they wanted to come that same day” she said
“These kids can drive you crazy I tell you, how are you doing? How are the twins?” I asked
“Oh they are fine, they went for a party, how is motherhood treating you?” She asked
“It’s challenging, learning something different each day” I responded
“Oh I got this for the Tasheni” she handed me a plastic bag that had some clothes and shoes
“Who’s Tasheni?” Emilie asked when she entered
“The baby is Tasheni” I responded
“What does Tasheni mean? He asked
“It means giving thanks” Stella responded
“Can you watch TV for a while, as I talk to aunty” I asked her and she immediately left the room
“These are really beautiful Stella, thanks on behalf of Tash” I said
“Can I hold her?” she asked I handed her the baby and she instantly fell in love with her.
“Awwwwww Pam she is adorable” she said
“Thank you” I replied
After some time Stella left and it was just me and the kids, they kept asking me questions till I dozed off. When I woke up I found Nono washing baby clothes.
“What time did you get here?” I asked
“A while ago I didn’t want to disturb you so I thought of keeping myself busy” I she answered
“Thank you Nono, how are you?”
“Nilichebwino madam, eh you have a cute baby sure, I was looking at her while you guys slept” Nono said
“Thank you, waina weh what have you been eating?” I asked
“The usual Nshima madam eh, so who is the father of this child?” she asked
“mmmm Nono wabwela na,a questions yako ai (You have come with your questions)” I said
“Awe sorry madam was just asking, I hope she is not Dan’s child because that man ehe he is a very big problem, he needs to meet a person that can beat him up, don’t you have any brothers madam?” she asked
I just gave her a deadly stare and she kept quiet, like who talks like that, Nono would never get tired of talking, as long as you gave her an audience she would talk and talk.
“Iwe Nono I help me find a maid, someone elderly with a bit of experience with kids so I can monitor her before I go back to work” I said
“Madam I can come back to work for you” she volunteered
“I would like that but what happens to the people you work for?” I asked
“I will make a plan” she said
“Okay please let me know by next week” I told her
It would make me happy to have Nono work for me again because I know I can trust her despite her talking disease she is really good at her job and she would take care of Tash perfectly well unlike getting a new person.

Sequence 19
Two weeks later, I was missing Justine big time, we hadn’t been talking much because of his busy schedule but every day that came by was an indication that I was getting closer to when he would get back and want an answer to his proposal.
So many women would have jumped at the proposal but after being hurt like that by the man I really loved I needed to think so that my decision would not haunt me later in future. Growing up I always said my first marriage would be my only marriage, I never believed in divorce no wonder I fought so hærd for my marriage but things just failed to work out, was I really ready to get into another marriage? I had so many what if’s only someone who has been through this would understand how hærd it is to get into a new relationsh¡p after being badly bruised.
Nono quit where she was working and came back to work for me, she is a hærd worker and easy to get along with, I had no problem with her the past three years so I knew now wouldn’t be any different.
I still couldn’t believe I was Tasheni’s mother and each time I looked at her I would think it’s a dream that someone would soon wake me up from it. My baby wiped away all the tears I had cried, she became my weakness and no matter how much another person would break me I knew she would be the reason I would fight so hærd to get back on track. I couldn’t even begin to describe the love I had for her. I had forgotten all the pain I went through she was worth the humiliation.
Monday morning after I finished bathing Tash I left her with Nono so I could also take a bath, when i was done I found Nono staring at Tash while humming to her a song.
“Mmmmmmmm madam now that I have taken a close look at this Tash, she looks exactly like the father” She said
“Eh Nono which father are you talking about?”
“Ba Dan weh, even a blind person can tell this is his child madam awe sure bapalana mwe” she said
“Nono please give me my child before you run mad with your conclusions and get me a glass of water as I dress up” I told her
After Nono left I put on a T-shirt and Leggings then I put Tash on my shoulder while soothing her so she could sleep.
When Nono came back with the glass of water and she started removing clothes for washing then we heard door bell ring.
“Let me check who it is” Nono said
I was still holding Tash when Dan entered my room unexpectedly followed by Nono.
“Take a sit sir its good you are here to see the baby, she looks just like you” Nono said
“Nono can you leave this place and take this person out of this room, I was glad Dan couldn’t see Tash’s face only her back.
“Pam! how long will you hide this from me, this is my child” he said
“Dan I am barren remember?” how come you are now questioning a barren woman over another man’s child.
“This birthmark on her back Pam” he was slowly walking to where I was standing, gosh I had completely forgotten about that birth mark. So I quickly got a shawl and wrapped her
“Don’t come any closer, can you please go the living room and talk from there, you are disturbing my child’s sleep” I said
He got out and I called Nono and scolded her then I told her to remain with Tash while I talked to Dan, I left Nono my phone and told her to dial Chloe and let her know Dan was in the house.
“You know what Dan I have no strength to argue or fight with you, I am getting married soon to the father of my child and this drama I will not tolerate so please see yourself out” I said
“There is no way you will expect me to walk away from whats mine, from my daughter that’s my child Pam” he said
“There is nothing that’s yours in this house just leave me in peace”
“I will not allow another man to raise my child, this is the very reason I married Mary in the first place because I didn’t want my child growing up without knowing me” he said
“The child is not yours, get it into your head and let us be”
Dan didn’t want to leave no matter what I was telling him so I just watched him talk and talk till Chloe arrived after some minutes.
“Dan what are you doing in my house?” she asked
“I am here to see my child” he said
“Your child you say?” she asked Chloe asked clapping her hands and laughing
“You have no shame at all, leave my house before I call the cops on you and never come back again” she said
“I will be back this is not the last you have heard of me” he said.

“Do you think he will want to prove that the child is his?” I asked Chloe after Dan left
“Let him try doing that, we shall be prepared for him that man thinks he can’t be touched huh?”
“Dan is really a nuisance” I said
“Anyway let me check on my baby so I can drive back to the office”
After Chloe left I scolded Nono once again, I warned her to resist on talking about things she had no idea about or else I would kick her out.
That evening Justine called just as I was about to sleep.
“Pam” he breathed
“Justine” I sighed
There was this connection between us that was hærd to explain despite being miles apart i could feel it and I know he could too.
“I can’t wait to see you, I miss you” He said
“I miss you more, come back fast please”
“I will be home in no time baby, I just called to say good night, I have an early morning tomorrow” he said
“Okay thanks for calling at least now I will sleep in peacefully after hearing from you”
“Good night babe”
“Good night stay safe” I called out
After talking to Justine I lay on my bed facing the ceiling with hope of sleep coming to my eyes like a teenager in love, was in love with Justine? Or maybe it was just a whim.
I woke up the next morning hearing noises outside like some sort of argument and I dashed out thinking Nono was arguing with someone because she can be quiet quarrelsome.
“What’s going on here?” I asked when I walked to the living room, as Nono stood in between the door as a way of blocking someone from entering.
“I was trying to stop them from entering the house but they kept shouting and insulting me”
“Who?” I asked trying to go outside
“Ehe good you are here now can you bring my grandchild so I can see her” Dan’s mother said
“Who gave you the rights to come to my house and cause havoc?” I asked
“We have every right because you are keeping us away from our niece” Rose said
“You guys are really trying my patience please leave before I call the cops on you” I said
“You wouldn’t dare” she said
“Try me”
“I see you have grown wings “she asked
“Ah please I have no time for you people” I said then entered the house and locked it leaving them yapping to themselves.
I wasn’t going to allow Dan and his family to control my happiness like they did back then, I would never allow them to mistreat, mock or insult me ever again.
A few minutes later there was quietness outside indicating that they had left, I went back to my room and talked to my baby, I had developed a habit of talking to her especially when she is sleeping because I enjoyed watching her sleep.
Two weeks later, on a Thursday to be specific, I was chatting with Nono, when I heard a knock on my bedroom door, I didn’t hear any car drive in so I thought it was Betty because she had gone to the market, but when I said come in, Justine entered and looking at him at that moment made my heart skipped a beat. Nono excused herself and it was just me and him.
He stared at me with clear warm eyes and I could feel the passion growing between us, I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I was lost in his eyes.
“I missed you” he finally broke the silence and hugged me, he smelled heavenly and being in his arms felt so right, there was nowhere else I wish I could be at that moment.
“You smell so good” I managed to say something after being quiet for a while
“So do you” he laughed
“Why didn’t you say you were coming today?” I asked
“Well I wanted to surprise you, how is my baby doing?” he asked
“She is all good, she has grown even”
“Hope she hasn’t been giving you any trouble”
“On the contrary, she has been an awesome girl” I said
“I bought you some things, they are in the car but before you get them fill me in on what has been happening here” he said
“So much has happened Dan and his family have been constantly nagging me about the baby though I didn’t tell them she is his” I said
“I think they will want custody of the child sooner or later we have to be ready for that” he said
“I don’t want him to have anything to do with my child what will I do now?”
“Don’t worry about that, I have a friend of mine who is a very good lawyer and if need arises she will take the case up and I know you will have full custody of the baby” he said
“When we get married I would like to adopt her so she can carry my last name if that’s okay with you” he said
Tash and I spent the day with Justine as he told me about all the meetings he had attended while in South Africa. He bought a lot of gifts for the wh0le family and I was so happy but there was a box he told me not to open till the following day, he said we were going for dinner the next day and I could only open the box when getting dressed.
“Promise you won’t really open it” he insisted
“I promise I won’t, I cross my heart and hope to die” I laughed
We had Dinner as a family, Chloe, Joe the kids and Justine, he left after we ate and promised to come and check on us the next day. I was putting Tash to bed when my phone rang, it was Justine.
“You can’t get enough of me” I asked
“I miss you already” he smiled
“I am putting your baby to sleep let me finish off then will call you back” I said
When Tash finally slept I dozed off and only remembered I had promised to call Justine back when I saw his missed calls the following morning. So I immediately called him back and we talked for a while.
“Morning baby”
“Morning” I answered
“So I am rushing to the office but I have sent some people over please accommodate them” he said
“What kind of people?” I asked
“You will see them when they come” he said that and hung up before I could question him more.
At 10:00 Justine had sent me a hair dress to do my hair, she gave me a number of options to choose from and I settled for the black long Brazilian curly weave after she did my hair she styled it when she left, someone came to do my nails and my makeup and by 17:00 I was ready to take a bath. Chloe knocked of early that day so she could baby sit Tash, Justine later called and informed me he had started off already so I opened the box and my jaw dropped when I saw what was in there.
“Oh my God” I exclaimed. in,side that box was a dress, heels and jewelry to compliment the outfit.
“Get dressed I see how beautiful you will look” Chloe said.
I got dress and was surprised how Justine managed to get such a nice dress and the perfect size for that matter.
The dress Justine bought was red in color and it was V-shaped showing the upper part of my b-obs, with a side slit and I loved how perfectly it curved my h¡ps, I then wore the gold neck less and earrings. Lastly I wore the black heels gosh I looked very beautiful I couldn’t recognize myself in the mirror. Chloe took a few photos of me before I went.
“Wow you looking amazing, Justine complemented when he saw me
“You look good as well” I said
Justine was very quiet throughout the way, I guess he was as nervous as I was, I wasn’t even sure what answer I was going to give him if he talked about the proposal, whatever answer would come at that moment is what I would give him.
An hour later we got to this amazing Hotel I had never been there before, it looked unique and beautiful, Justine opened my car door and we walked in holding hands. We got in,side the hotel and Justine lead me to the roof top where a table was already set and waiting for us. The table was decorated covered with red linen, and flowers and candles. Pulled the table for me and I immediately sat down.
Then he called a guy who looked like a waiter and they brought us our food, I hærdly ate because Justine was too quiet for my liking, I tried engaging him in some conversations but he would only give me one word answers.
After the meal, the song “If you are not the one” by Daniel Bedingfield started playing, it played for while as we waited for our des**t and Justine was still quiet so I concentrated on mastering the lyrics of the song.
“If you are not the one then why does my soul feel glad today? If you are not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way? If you are not mine then why does your heart return my call? If you are not mine would I have the strength to stand at all? I never know what the future brings but I know you are here with me now will make it through and I hope you are the one I share my life with, I don’t wanna to run away but I can’t take it I don’t understand if I am not meant for you then why does my heart tell me that I am” The song played
Just as I was enjoying the song they bought us Vanilla cake for des**t and when I was about to cut a piece I saw a Gold ring in the middle of my cake engraved with our initials. As I was still processing this, Justine got down on one knee then he held my hand.
“A few months ago I met a beautiful lady who changed my life forever, despite being pushed away and blocked for some time I still pursued her because I knew I would never find another like her, this lady is charming, beautiful and amazing in every possible way, I have never loved anyone like I love her because she is different from the rest, she has shown me a great deal of happiness and I just want to make her mine” he said
I was melted away with his words and by this time tears where already streaming off my face.
“Pam Chansa, Tasheni’s mother, will you do me the honor of being my wife?” he asked
Just as I was about to answer fear crept in, I had a mixture of emotions and the usual what if’s flooded my mind, God I was shaking, here was this amazing man proclaiming is undying love for me and I was still taking my time to answer.
