Melanie’s pov 🧚

I woke up to the sound of a very familiar voice, scre-ming loudly all over the place. I sat up and held my head as I felt an unbearable headache hit me.

A gro-n left my mouth, my eyes started searching around for the source of those scre-ms, but couldn’t find it.. it’s just me.

Where’s she scre-ming from, how did she get here, how did she find me, I wondered.

Caleb’s body….

I cut off my thoughts as I took a second look, taking note of my surrounding.
There are no dead bodies, no fallen doors, no blood flowing on the floor… it’s just a clean, smooth tiles and Caleb’s head is nowhere to be seen.

That’s when I realized I’m no longer in Caleb’s den, I’m back in my room.. in Mr Bright’s mansion.

What happened? When did I get back? Weren’t Mr Bright and I just arguing?

I calmed down a little and tried to retrieve my memory, then it occured to me that I must have passed out.

Gabby’s still scre-ming loudly, she must have created havoc by now…I tried to listen to her words, but could only interpret a few words, like…

*…I said I wanna see my friend…*
*…be safe and sound!*
*.. don’t try to calm me down..*

I shook my head, though she’s being kinda overdramatic, but the protective in her voice was very clear and firm.

That’s what I love most about her, she can move heaven for the one she cares about.

“Ga-gabby” I called in a very low and stuttering voice.. even if she was close to me she wouldn’t hear me.

My eyes searched around for a glass of water, but there’s none. It’s best she sees me, that’s only she would calm.

I got off the bed, though I felt a little dizzy but I managed and pulled myself together, then headed towards the door.

★★★

Gabby was glaring daggers at Mr Bright, when I entered the living room.
She placed her hands on her wa-ist, looking so serious as though her face is gonna make it rain.

I bite back a laugh, now I have confirmed it, she’s really my best friend.

“Hey! You!” she called for Caldwell’s attention.

“Yes?” Caldwell gave her his attention.

She threw Mr Bright another malicious glare, deadlier than the first.

“Has your boss suddenly gone deaf? Or he’s purposely ignoring himself not me!”

“Shut up!” Mr Bright suddenly growled.

Gabby flinched back, her fierce look vanished at once. I don’t know if Caldwell did it subconsciously, but he quickly stepped in front of Gabby as though he wanted to protect her.

Mr Bright got up, took slow steps towards Gabby who in turn is taking quick steps back.. Caldwell is still stand in front of her though.

I saw Mr Bright clenching and unclenching his jaw, which means he’s trying hærd to keep himself calm.

I better do something now or he might hurt her, with that thought in mind, I jumped forward.

“Gabby!” I shouted, maybe a little too loud as I winced at how dry my throat was.

They all turned their heads towards me, Gabby’s eyes lit up instantly as she pushed Caldwell aside and rushed towards me.

“Oh my God! Lanie, you’re ok!” she exclaimed happily.

She pulled me into a very tight hug, the kind that can crush even the strongest iron.
We stayed in each other’s arms for a moment, until we pulled apart when we’ve had enough.

“Lanie, what happened? You were absent from school for five days, you didn’t bother to call or text me…what happened?”

I shook my head.

“I…”

“Wait!” she cut me off.

She took a step back and studied me with a frown, she reached for my hand and studied it further.

“You’re so pale, Lanie, what happened to you? Were you sick?” she asked.

“I’m fine” I replied in a low voice.

I coughed to clear my throat.

“You don’t look fine to me…”

She paused, then narrowed her eyes at both Caldwell and Mr Bright.

“.. did they do something to you?” she asked through gritted teeth.

I glanced at Mr Bright, he smiled sweetly and winked at me, but I scoffed and turned back to Gabby.

“They did something to you, right?” she asked again.

“No, it’s not them” I answered.

“Not them?” I shook my head. “Lanie, you don’t have to be scared of them, I’m here, just say whatever you wanna tell me”

I linked our arms and rested my head on her shoulder, I sighed.

“They really didn’t do anything to me”

“Then why are you so pale like a ghost?” she asked anxiously.

I could feel it in her tone, she’s praying they were really the one that hurt me.. as if she can fight either of them.

“It’s ca-caleb” I stuttered the name.

She paused and torn her gaze from them, she looked at me with a frown.

“Who?” she asked.

“It’s Caleb, he abducted me” I said more clearly this time.

“What?!” she exclaimed, sounding very surprised at my response.

Well, I can’t say he abducted me, I walked into his trap.. I offered myself to him in a silver tray.

“How is that possible? Why would he do that? In fact, where’s he?”

I shook my head sadly.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

Caleb’s head rolling on the ground flashed across my mind, it’s almost as if I’m back in the scene, I could review the picture of his headless body dropping to the ground.

I recalled the way his blood flooded everywhere, turning the floor into a small red sea.

I shuddered and shook my head, I shivered in disgust.

“Why would Caleb do such a thing? What happened?”

“I’ll tell you, let’s go home first” I said.

She nodded, then led me towards the door, but Mr Bright appeared in front of us, blocking our way.

“Home? Darling, aren’t you home already?” he asked me.

“This is your home, not mine!” I snapped at him.

I’m still mad at him for insulting and calling me names in front of his sl*t, I don’t even stand ten feet near him.

“Darling, I know you’re mad at me but we can resolve it, just give me a chance to explain myself” he said.

“No, there is nothing to explain” I tapped Gabby’s hand. “Let’s go” I told her.

We didn’t take a step before he stopped us again, I glared at him but he ignored it.

“Don’t be like that, we’ve just started dating and we shouldn’t let small fights get in the way of our relationsh¡p”

“You call that a small fight?”

I balled my fist beside me, as it’s tempting me to land a sweet, hot slap on his cheek.

“That wasn’t even a fight, it was the utmost embarrassment, it’s humiliation at its highest peak!”

“But you can’t leave home, we should sit down and talk about it.. darling, I’ve seen a lot of couples fight but they still make up”

He just reminded me of what I looked like when I was asking him…or should I say, begging him to chase that girl away.

Well, I don’t know if this is considered wickedness, but he should get a taste of his own medicine!

He held my left hand and looked in my eyes.

“Please, let’s sort this out. Besides, you just recovered and shouldn’t be moving about”

I scoffed mentally, as if he cares for my health!

I snatched my hand from his, turned away from him as if he’s got some strange incurable disease.

“Gabby let’s go, I don’t wanna stay here for a second.. the air here stinks” I said in a cold tone, that’s passing a secret message, which is…

*Try stopping me this time!*

I narrowed my eyes, glared at him, then dragged Gabby along with me…even Gabby was also scowling at him.

Mr Bright couldn’t stop us this time, he simply stood and watched us leave.

“Lanie, what happened? Why did you break up with your boyfriend just a week in your relationsh¡p?” Gabby asked me as we approached the door.

“I’ll tell you when we get to your apartment” I answered.

She nodded in understanding.
I don’t have any strength to say anything, I just want to bath, eat and sleep some more.

Caldwell’s pov 🧚

A smiled played on my l-ips as I watched those two badass saints leave, they left boss speechless.

A sudden crash caught my attention, I shifted my gaze to master and saw the big TV scattered under his feet.

I don’t need anyone to tell me he broke it, it’s very obvious with the way he balled his fist tightly.. besides, we’re the only ones here now.

“My darling doesn’t understand anything!” He grumbled.

“Mr Bright…”

“Hansel, have you sent him home?” He asked me.

I shook my head. “No, sir”

We would have sent him (Hansel) and his family free two days ago, but master didn’t let us, he insisted we wait.. I don’t know why though.

“Good! One more question, are you on Facebook?” he asked me.

I frowned, I’m confused at his question, why is he suddenly asking if I’m on Facebook? What is he planning to do?

“Caldwell, I asked you a question!” He gritted out.

“No, sir”

He facepalm himself.

“You’re outdated” he said.

“I’m outdated? Are you on Facebook, sir?” I asked him.

He paused, raised an eyebrow at me. I gulped, though from his look I can tell he’s not on Facebook either.

“I’ll create a Facebook account right away, sir” I said.

He nodded.

“Good, make sure umbrella is your friend”

He’s calling her umbrella again, I don’t understand why I feel offended and have the urge to correct him… something I wouldn’t do normally.

I even wanted to protect her from master’s wrath earlier, which I wouldn’t have been able to face the penalty.

Challenging master is a death penalty, but I wanted to take the risk for her…why?!

“Ouch!” I gro-ned when I felt a stink on the back of my head.

I rubbed the s₱0t gently and faced master.

“Sir?”

“I said make sure umbrella is your friend on that Facebook”

“Oh.. but why, sir?” I asked.

He adjusted his shirt, smirked and cleared his throat.

“We’re doing someone a big favor soon!” He replied and rushed upstairs, either he’s going to his room.. or office.

He stopped midway and faced me.

“Carling just told me, my goods have arrived.. take some demons to the lakeside tomorrow to offload them and transfer them to the warehouse!”

“Yes, sir” I answered.

He didn’t say anything else, he rushed off or should I say teleport.
I sighed and looked towards the door, I recalled Gabriella’s scowling face and burst into laughter.

That girl is something else, I just pray she doesn’t provoke master into killing her one day.

To be continued.
