✍️ CHAPTER TITLE ✍️: A Sight of her.

At the part of the mall that had different individuals bartering and discussing in there, Caleb walked through the corridor in search of her.

Earlier he was on call with Andromeda, his purpose of calling being that he wanted to know how things were going on there.

There was no other reason aside from his instinct that kept on bothering him to call and ask after the butler. He wanted to believe that no problem had taken place since Vera returned home. He was worried for her.

Still busy on the phone conversation, and while speaking he decided to step away from Damien and Annabel. He planned for the outing but he doesn’t want Damien or Annabel to be aware of him speaking with Andromeda.

Already blending in the discussion, as both of them were uttering words at different intervals, he was lost in that and was busy ranting.

For as much as he was conscious of his environment, he had not been really focusing on it. He was still ranting until when of a sudden, he started hearing a familiar voice coming from a distance.

“I asked if to come to join y’all,” Andromeda repeated, speaking from the other end of the phone and noticing how Caleb had not responded with any words, as his mind was elsewhere.

“Are you listening, Caleb?” Until Andromeda questioned again, Caleb kept on gawking around such that he forgot been on call with her.

Curious and surprised, could it be possible that he heard the right voice? He needs to search for who was speaking right away.

“Crystal is here,” he muttered and Andromeda raised her brows where she stood in her bathroom in confusion, wondering what he was talking about before he quickly said,

“Excuse me, please. I’ll return the call soon,” Caleb rushed his words, barely waiting for Andromeda’s reply, he hung up right away.

Not giving it a second thought he started trailing after the voice to where it was coming from. None of the people around seemed to be the ones speaking, and if he could remember well, the voice didn’t come from behind, it was ahead of him.

Staring back and forth at everything he could see then wondered on the reason why his heart was thudding loudly against his chest. He couldn’t differentiate between if it was because of the thought of meeting Crystal again, or because of something else.

Caleb had gone after the familiar voice, using all his time to search for who had spoken. It took him a while to walk through the corridor before spotting a figure that wasn’t far from him anymore, where she stood outside a door in the mall.

Caleb didn’t know when a sigh escaped his mouth, staring at the body that wasn’t facing him right now, and he couldn’t see the body doing anything aside from just standing.

After many years, he finally met with her. He hadn’t seen her face yet, but even just her back figure was enough to show that it was her. It was Crystal; that voice belongs to her.

As he stared at the figure of the woman who had made life difficult for both Damien and Annabel, anger built in his stomach.

Caleb could not add himself as a tool of her wickedness or misery because strangely, Crystal had never done anything that could physically hurt him. He has only shared in the pain that she caused Damien and Anabel but never had a moment of her causing him his own portion of pain. He was always spared.

Caleb had slowed down his steps, not moving faster as he was doing earlier, and instead was approaching the woman who stood a few feet away from him in a quiet movement.

Even if he hadn’t seen her face to confirm, there was no excuse for this woman not to be Crystal. The voice that he heard couldn’t have deceived him and he was sure of it.

He was closer to swiftly pushing her body around while expecting to see the surprise look on her face, she would not have expected to see him.

Out of nowhere, a man appeared, the one who pushed Caleb backward and landed a punch on his face. Before Caleb could balance his body and find out what suddenly happened, he was thrown across the wall with a heavy kick on his knees.

Caleb’s back hit the wall and it hurt terribly before his body slumped down the wall in pain. It must have been that the man still wanted to hit Caleb more than he had or probably had something else in mind, Caleb who closed his eyes could not say.

For the last time, he heard Crystal’s voice again saying, “Lay another finger on him and I’ll have you burnt alive,” the man looked at his mistress whose eyes were in a rage, and was uncomfortably staring at the man whom he had attacked just because he wanted to protect her.

Caleb’s head was spinning, no one to help because it was a quiet corridor in the mall. All he could try to do was fight against the headache and open his eyes to observe his environment.

He wanted to see the woman who was before him but instead what he saw was emptiness. Neither Crystal nor the man who attacked him was there. They’ve both escaped.

His eyes blinked severally as he wondered for a moment if he had hallucinated what took place but that can’t be possible.

Caleb was sure that it indeed took place and he truly met with Crystal. Her last words confirm it, but who was the man who attacked him? Caleb was close to finally seeing her face.

Regardless of what had happened, Caleb didn’t give up. He checked back and fro to see if anyone was coming and could help but he didn’t find any. It made him wonder if it was supposed to be so, the mall was to big to have an empty corridor.

He placed a hand on the wall, using the free hand to hold his head which was aching in place, Caleb raised his body from the ground with difficulty.

His mouth bled, and he could taste his blood in his mouth. Staggering forward, he stubbornly went after her.

It isn’t long before everything takes place, Crystal should have eloped by now together with the man who attacked him. For him to attack her, it means Crystal was aware of it and they already noticed his presence.

Caleb didn’t notice any footsteps behind him before the attack and this got him thinking about where the man had appeared from.

Having walked for minutes while searching for her, he had brought out the handkerchief from his pocket earlier to wipe the possible blood off his mouth, dusting his dress so no one would be aware of anything.

All his efforts to find Crystal was futile. She was nowhere to be found and as his back was almost broken earlier which made his strength reduce, Caleb lost the courage to continue look for Crystal who might have possibly disappeared into thin air.

Giving up on searching as nothing profitable was assured, Caleb decided to inform John quickly about the new information that he just got. The man needs to know that Crystal is back.

Crystal is back from wherever she has hidden and was moving around, she needs to be searched for and found. It’s Caleb’s bad luck that she escaped from him, but it was her ill luck that Caleb found out she was in the country.

“A call from a missing per-”

“Where are you? I need to speak with you urgently,” Caleb cut his speech off sharply and rather shared.

“Calm man. I’m joining Damien to search for you as you’ve gone missing. Where are you?” John answered, nodding his head at Damien who asked to confirm if he was speaking with Caleb, as he refused to pick up any call from Damien.

Caleb furrowed his brows while trying to grab the piece of words John had uttered, and when he finally did, he dropped the call and went to search for Damien’s whereabout.

Once he got to where Damien and John were sitting while having a drink each in their presence, he pulled the nose mask he had put on to reveal his appearance.

There were few people here and so far Damien’s face hasn’t been seen yet, they will still be good. If anything happens, the guards ain’t far from them to take care of it and get them out of there.

“Did you go after a woman? That thing between your legs doesn’t want to rest anymore?” Damien angrily blurted, attacking Caleb the moment he appeared, and didn’t take notice of the change in his appearance.

“You suggested the outing and yet you have the gut to disappear,” he hissed, throwing his face around.

“Where’s Annabel?” Caleb could see Damien and John sitting together but where is Annabel? She isn’t with Damien.

Seeing nobody answering, he followed the directions of Damien’s eyes and was able to find her where she sat along with Salle, they were licking ice cream on another table and he felt calm.

“John, I need you to start tracking Crystal’s whereabout now,” he told to the detective who raised his brows at him.

“Are you sad about me having a nice time with my sister or why should I work on a special occasion like-” Caleb didn’t let him finish speaking before saying,

“Crystal is back in the country. I heard her voice and trailed her, but she escaped before I could see her. I was beaten up too by her accomplice I guess,” Caleb shared out of restlessness.

Aside from John who had a surprised expression on his face, another reaction which he had expected came from Damien, he suddenly had a different expression on his face. As expected at the mention of Crystal’s name.

“Are you sure? She was the one?” John was the one who curiously kept his drink aside and paid his full attention to the recent information that Caleb was sharing.

“I won’t gain anything by lying. Look here,” Caleb brought out the kerchief he had used to clean his mouth earlier for them to see. “There would be red marks on my back if I raise my shirt,” he added for them to believe him.

Right away, Damien who was paying less attention to what he was saying raised his eyebrows in shock, he had thought Caleb was lying but it was turning out to be true.

His muscles were hardening and so was his chest rising and falling constantly out of anger. Crystal! She’s back in the country? The hell!

That one person he had already prepared her doom and he didn’t know where to find her, now she’s back.

“She already left, I searched everywhere later but couldn’t find her,” Caleb yelled when Damien stood up and was about to leave the place.

Wherever Crystal had gone, he was going to search for her and rip her head apart from her body.

“Face the front and don’t get me killed!!!!” Crystal yelled again at him. Barnabas the new accomplice she just involved in her dirty jobs nodded his head. His hands were shaking on the steering.

He doesn’t know the reason why she was suddenly furious, he had done everything she asked him to do without failing anyone.

The car was moving at its fastest speed, so fast that all that was left to increase the speed was to begin flying. It was her good luck that the road wasn’t busy today, else who knows whether Damien had come after them, and it would have been difficult to escape.

While the car was moving she kept on looking behind the car to check if any car was suspiciously following them, but there was none.

A sigh of relief left her red-colored lips. After five years, she met with her son today. She didn’t mean for Barnabas to attack him, but she needed to do something to escape from them.

“Stop the car,” she instructed and he abruptly stopped the car without questioning her and faced the difficulty in stopping the car since he was speeding with it earlier.

Once the car had stopped Crystal quickly stepped down onto the road. Staring at her surroundings to see if anyone looked at her in suspicion and when there was none she said,

“I’ll find my way back to where I live from here. You can leave and return the car to where you got it from,” she ordered the man who was staring at her right now.

“A simple mistake can cost you your life, I’m sure you still want to live. Leave now,” When she was done speaking, she could see him opening his mouth to speak but with her glaring hard at him, the latter closed his mouth and instantly drove off from there.

Watching the car disappear into space until she couldn’t see it anymore, Crystal took another route and left the place.

She can’t afford to get caught, doing this is the only way to keep herself safe. Why did she visit the mall? Now Damien would be aware that she was back to the country.
