Alex’s POV

I took a look at gabby, looking almost lifeless. Her l-ips had gone dry and her closed eyes now looked like they were attached, I intertwined our fingers and gave it a light k-ss.

“Gabby, can you hear me?” I pushed my hair back “I know you can and I want you to know that I love you, I don’t know how but I love you so much and our baby,” I moved my second hand to her stomach “I promise to be a good father and husband, I promise to always be here for you two, please don’t leave me yet. I need you so much” I felt a tear roll then a little tug between our hand.
My brows narrowed as I looked at my hand intertwined with Gabby’s , I felt a pull or was I hallucinating.

I felt another pull, a little hærd this time and I stood up, not letting go of Gabriella’s hand.

“Gabby!” I called “Can you hear me?” I asked, instead I felt another pull and a little mo-n.
Her eyes shook a bit and her head turned

“Gabby. Oh My Goodness! you’re awake” I yelled and immediately the door burst open and Mrs Sheppard rushed in with a nurse.

“Alex, what’s wrong?” she asked looking at me.

“G-gabby moved, she shook her head” I rushed my words.

“Are y–

“Mmh,” Gabby soft mo-n interrupted her and her eyes lit up.

“S-she j-ust moved” she ran to her.
“Please get the doctor” she turned to the nurse who hurried off immediately and returned later with the doctor.

Gwennie’s POV
.
We were at the cafeteria, having lunch and some random talks. Hailey and Guy can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, I suspect they had something they weren’t telling but I let it be. That wasn’t what was really troubling me now.
Alex still wasn’t in school and neither Gabriella, I’ve tried his line but it wasn’t going through, I couldn’t keep in curiosity in check any longer so I planned on going over to his house today, somehow I felt really concerned.

We had lunch and head back to class, I went to my seat and we had the next period which later ended.

“Hailey can I get your note?” I asked .

“Sure,” she handed the notes to me and I copied some stuffs then gave it back to her.
The bell rang after two more periods and I packed my bags, we all moved out of the gate and Hailey and Guy shared a k-ss, not on the cheeks but on the l-ips.
Well I wasn’t surprised, it was obvious they were dating and Hailey affirmed it after they separated.

I waved them bye and moved to the station with Guy then took a taxi to Alex’s. I got down and paid when we arrived then moved to the porch and knock.

“I’m coming,” I heard a voice which I recognized as granny’s then the door flung open.

“Oh,miss Gwen, it’s you”

“Yes granny, good afternoon” I greeted and moved in when she moved aside then locked the door.

“Uh granny, is Alex here?” I asked.

“No,he has not been home for two days now, the last time he came he didn’t stay up to an hour” she said and my brows narrowed.

“Why? Do you know where he is?” I asked.

“Yes, he’s at the hospital, miss Gabby had an accident”

“What!” I exclaimed.

“She took some dangerous drugs” Granny said with a frown.

“She’s still at the hospital?”

“Yes, but Alex says the doctor assured that she’ll be fine” she said.

“Oh,” I muttered “Is Anne here?”

“No, she’s staying the week at her parent’s” she said and I nodded.

“I’ve been trying Alex’s number for three days now and it’s not going through, I guess he has no time for mobiles now but I’m worried, do you know anyway I could contact him?” I asked.

“Yes, the hospital line, come I’ll show it to you” she took me to the telephone’s cradle.
“Do you want me to call him?”

“Yes, I guess that’s okay too”

“OK” she punched few numbers and placed the phone to her ear for a while.
“Here” she stretched it to me “It’s ringing,” I collected it from her “I’ll be in the kitchen” she left.

“Super shield hospital , How may we help you?” a lady’s voice spoke.

“Good afternoon, I’m Gwen, Please may I speak to Alex McCormick?” I asked.

“Please hold on,” I heard some fumbling sounds “OK, hang on a bit”
Two minutes later.

“Gwen,” I heard Alex’s voice, so soft and gentle.

“Alex, it’s Gwen,”

“I know” he said

“How’re you?” I asked.

“Honestly Gwen, I don’t know,”

“I heard Gabby’s unconscious, I’m so sorry, I had no idea”

“I know and you don’t need to be sorry, she’d have been in a worse state if not for you” he said.

“Is she getting better,”

“I guess so, she’s unconscious now but the doctors are still with her, they’ve been there for hours now and I’m worried.”

“She’ll be fine, Okay?”

“Yeah, thanks”

“Any news about the baby? Is it OK?”

“I have no idea, first the doctor said the baby have a rare chance to live but now that Gabby’s awake I haven’t heard anything from them and f-ck I’m getting impatient” He cursed.

“I’ll forgive you for using the ‘F’ word but just don’t do anything that’ll cause attention okay?”

“Yes mom,”
I smiled.

“Take care of yourself”

“Sure thing, goodbye”

“Yeah, bye” he hanged up and I sighed then dropped the phone on it’s cradle before letting out another sigh of relief.
She’s awake, that’s a good thing and I’m glad but the baby.
I just hope it’s safe as well, I wonder why she’ll want to get rid of it..
Children are one of the best things but I guess she might have a pretty strong reason for it. Now my mind is largely at rest about gabby now it’s time to give a chance to Jay, a chance to love, he might’ve understood that I was thinking about it but geez! there is really nothing to think about, I’ve loved him right from time. I just wanted my heart to be at rest over gabby’s case before I go for My Heartbeat.

“Granny!” I moved to the kitchen.

“Yes dear”

“I’m done talking to Alex”

“Did he mention miss Gabriella recovery?”

“Yes, she’s unconscious now and the doctors are with her”

“That’s a relief!” she smiled.

“Indeed” I said.

“I’ll head home now…

“I thought you’d stay for lunch,”

“I promised to do the grocery for mom so I have to hurry before it gets late”

“OK honey, bless you”

“You too granny, bye”

“Bye dear”

I took a taxi home and got off before paying then moved into the house and made for the grocery store since it was beginning to get late.

Alex’s POV

Hearing Gwen’s voice actually made me feel happy coupled with gabby’s unconsciousness, I still wish I could speak to her, I wanted to see her, to know if she was OK, if my baby was safe.
My mind was still troubled about it and hearing Gwen’s voice and assurance actually strengthened me even more than Joe’s . Gwen is a good friend, she was someone one could turn to in dire times.

I was glad Anne was with her parent now, I wouldn’t have liked her to see me in this state, I was happy she now had the family she had always craved for, She now had a father figure, someone who loved and adored her like I did.
They were even planning a wedding, since they got Anne at a tender age they thought it’d be more proper to have a real wedding, the invitations as expected were out but the date weren’t fixed yet, they vowed to go with whatever I decided since gabby was still unconscious and well, I was glad about that too.

I glanced at Mrs Sheppard, Mr Sheppard, Joe, Lana and Muriel, a friend of gabby who recently arrived from the states. they all had worried and hopeful looks, all eager to hear what the doctor will say once he gets out of her ward.
Mrs Sheppard was a shadow of her old self her eyes were dim and her body frail, her hair was loosed and untidy and her face had a sleepless description, she’s going through a wh0le lot, Gabriella was her only child and I guessed it must’ve been more painful not to know that her child was taking something as harmful as caniidop, she had been clueless. I watched as Muriel patted and comforted her and she sniffed at intervals even though the tears didn’t pour out as much as before.

The door to Gabby’s ward finally flung open and the doctor walked out with two other nurses behind him both carrying an iron bowl with stuffs.
We rushed to him.

“How’s my daughter?” Mrs Sheppard asked first, covering up all our questions.

“Firstly, congratulations, she got out of it safe and like I’ve mentioned before the drugs hadn’t gotten completely through her systems so she’s very much alive now. She lost much blood so we had to transfuse and take out her damaged internal org-ns then have them replaced. She’s strong enough to receive visitors” he said.

“Thank you lord” Mrs Sheppard smiled wryly.

“How’s my baby, is she OK?” I asked.
His face tightened a bit.

“I’m sorry Mister but we lost it,”
My face fell and an arm crossed my shoulder,Mr Sheppard.

“Unfortunately, the baby wasn’t strong enough to fight it, it still has its liquid form so it had no strength of resistance, I’m so sorry but we tried our best” the doctor soberly said and a tear dropped from my face.

“Are there any other effects from the drug? like womb damage and others?” Mr Sheppard asked.

“Happily, no. the only two effects were loss of blood and damaged system and luckily enough the parts that got damaged are not really vital and besides we already replaced them” he said.

“Thank you so much, doctor John, I really appreciate”

“You’re welcome Mr Sheppard. You can all see her now but she still needs less stress so I advice you go in individually” he said.

“Thanks”
he nodded and left, the two nurses behind him.

“Alex son,” Mr Sheppard’s grip tightened on my shoulder “Why don’t you go in first?” I faced him and nodded in appreciation.

“But–
Mrs Sheppard was about obliging but her husband placed a palm on her shoulder and she nodded “Go ahead then”

I moved the gabby ward, pulled in the door and got in then gently closed it before stepping aside, gabby’s face was turned to the other side but I knew she was awake, she suddenly turned and her eyes met mine, I dragged my feet to her and saw her eyes sadly looking at mine.

“Alex,” she called in a misty voice and I went to her “I-I’m–

“Shh,” I obstructed her sentence with a finger and a tear roll to her side “Don’t say anything” I bent and hugged her, raising hee head up a bit, I was careful not to let my weight weaken her.
“I’m sorry gabby” I whispered to her and I felt her body shake a bit.

“It’s not your fault Alex, it’s mine, I was too clouded to think, I-I thought I could hurt you, I didn’t think about the life I was murdering” she whimpered.

“I wasn’t there Gabriella, I should’ve been with you but I wasn’t, you had been sick and I was your friend but I wasn’t there for you gabby, I had no idea” I said in tears.

“Alex,” her fist grip me tight as I felt her body tremble in tears.
Recollecting the doctor’s word about not engaging her to stress I gently pulled away and let my finger wipe her teary face.

“I’m happy you’re back, Goodness! I was so scared, I thought I had lost you” I said.

“I couldn’t go without apologizing, the doctor informed me about your stay here, and I’m sorry that that reason is gone, I’m so sorry”

“It’s OK and besides the doctor said the drugs left no other side effect, we can have babies later but your health’s what is important now”

“We?”

“Yes, Gabby we,” I pulled her palm up in my and placed my lip on her knuckles “I love you and I’m ready to start a new life with you” I said, her eyes w¡dened first then her l-ips parted and closed as she stared shockingly at me.

“Alex!” she gasped “How? Why? I mean when?” she asked in awe.

“I don’t know sweetheart but I know I’m in love with you, the few days you spent here was like hell and partly heaven to me, it made me realize how much I needed you gabby, how much you mean to me, I couldn’t imagine life without you and I know very much now that I care a lot about you. if my love isn’t strong enough to make up for the time that I let you go then we could use yours, if you don’t mind”

“Alex,” she sat up and hugged me hærd “Of course I don’t mind, I love you so much, I’ve always loved you and I always will” her breath warmed my neck.

“And I love you too” I said.

“Oh Alexander, I love you more” she whispered and I smiled as we disengaged.

“And we’ll have children once we’re married”

“Yes,” she nodded “Of course we will” she cried and we hugged again.

Though my child’s gone but I’m happy I’m in the arms of my woman.
Gabriella.

Gwennie’s POV
.
“Mom, don’t you think the make up’s a bit too much?” I asked, checking my face in a lengthy mirror.

“No honey it’s perfect, the best for a date night” mom said and I rolled my eyes.

“But I didn’t tell you it was a date, it’s just a brief hangout..

“With a guy? does it make any difference?”

“I guess it doesn’t” I gave up and mom smiled.

Well, earlier today back at school, I had told Justin I was ready to give him an answer, the expression on his face almost made me blush so I told him to meet me at a fountain in a street close to ours because I wanted a place where we wouldn’t get much attention to ourselves and he accepted without an argument and also called it a date, which I of course laughed at before nodding.
And well I got home, I wasn’t sure how I’d wear my make up but I knew I needed something light and I asked for mom assistance and all through the session she kept telling me how to act, how to sit and blah blah blah, like it was my first time. She was done with the make up which I assumed was too much but I let it go, I wasn’t in for an argument so I just grabbed my silvery purse instead and head out, I said my bye to Jerold and Emily, who was having dinner with us and k-ssed mom before rushing out to board a taxi.

It dropped me at the next street, close to an ice cream cart which had a fountain just behind it, I paid and got down, eyes were on me already but I gave it no attention. I was used to people staring at me, I sighted Justin on a long bench and when our eyes met I suddenly felt shy, I was sure my cheeks my be pretty red because they were hurting a bit, he’s the only one that makes me feel this way.
It took few seconds before I got to him and his stares almost made my feet move on air.

“Y-you’re beautiful” I blushed a bit.

“Thanks. sorry I kept you waiting”

“I wouldn’t mind spending a day here, waiting for you” he said and I smiled, my blush deepened.

“Should I get us Ice cream?” he asked

“Not for me, I’m not really an ice cream fan” I said and he mumbled an oh.

“Hey” I looked up, noticing a new presence and it was a guy, with wavy dark hair and a cute face.

“Hi,” Justin responded, his jaw firm.
“Actually I was talking to the lady not you” he said.

“Oh,” I looked at Justin whose face wore anger “Hi” I responded and he smiled.

“You’re really beautiful,” he said and it took a light touch from me to Jay to stop him from doing something I know would be rash.

“Thanks” I said, Justin wanted to talk but I gave him a look and he just angrily glared at the guy.

“I’m Miguel,”

“I’m Gwen” I said and Jay gave me a ‘Com’on’ look.

“Pretty name,” I smiled “I was wondering if you’d like us to hang out, I mean stroll to the fountain and get to know each other more” he said and jay gave me a look, I could sense he was running out of patience and I knew I had to send this dude off before they create a scene.

“Actually, I don’t think that’s a good idea because I’m with my boyfriend and I don’t think he’ll like it” Jay eyes softened on me.

“Y-your boy—

“Mr Miguel, I think it’d be better if you leave now. The lady has made a point” Justin said.

“But–

“Just go Miguel” I said and he looked at me sadly for a while before walking away.

“I seriously thought you were about to ditch me” he said and I smiled.

“I was just trying not to be rude, he really has guts, approaching even after seeing me with someone else” I said.

“You mentioned I’m your boyfriend, does that mean a yes?”

“Do I have a choice?” I blushed as his eyes were lovingly on mine.

“You don’t,” he smiled and took my hands “Thanks a lot Gwen, I promise to be your perfect boyfriend”

I blushed.

“I know you will” I said.

“Do I need permission to k-ss you?” he asked.

“Yes,” his brows narrowed “And you have my full permission all the time” I said and shifted closer to k-ss him.
