CHAPTER 63
+
“I am truly very sorry” Martha apologized to Rosanne, helping her up her feet.
“It’s okay. Really, it is. I should have focused on my path carefully.” Rosanne smiled.

“At least get a little angry at me.” Martha breathed out a smile.
“You know I can’t” Rosanne added.

“So… On your way home?”
“Yes, just returning from the castle.” Rosanne replied.
“Same with me. When the lanterns floated up to the sky, it was marvelous. I really enjoyed the Hayest festival” Martha shrugged with a small smile. As she and Rosanne began walking on the road again
“Oh, I missed the lightening of the lantern, I was in a situation at that moment” Rosanne added.
“Oh” Was all Martha could say.

“So… You’re talking to me.” Rosanne pointed out..
“What?” Martha was surprised.
It was true, Rosanne didn’t have to point it out.
“You hærdly ever talk to me. Despite the fact that we’re friends. You hærdly ever, I’m grateful tonight was an exception.” Rosanne smiled.
“I just… I do talk to you.” Martha defended.

“No.” Rosanne shook her head. “Recently you’ve been giving me cold shoulders, anytime I try to start a conversation with you, you brush it off and walk away, did I do something wrong? I won’t know until you tell me.” Rosanne sighed.
Martha stopped walking and clutched her dress.
“Fine.” she sighed.
“You’re the only female friend I have Rosanne and lately I have been giving you cold shoulders and I admit it” Martha expounded. “You did nothing wrong, I am hating on you for a petty reason I’m ashamed of admitting in front of you”

“What?” Rosanne was stunned. “What petty reason.”
“I…” Martha started walking again and Rosanne trailed behind her. “I am in love with… Garam… I finally said it” she sighed.
Rosanne stopped on her tracks. “What?” She almost scre-med.
“I know it’s ear shocking and stupid of me to do so but yes, I am in love with your betrothed you can hate me now.” Martha rushed her words.

Rosanne shook her head. “No… I am not going to hate on you because you’re in love with Garam. I am not”
“Really?”
“That would be petty” Rosanne smiled. “But I am surprised, I never thought you’d like Garam. And why was liking Garam ever bounced back on hating me.?”
“Because with you in the picture he’d never look at me. I am truly sorry Rosanne.” Martha frowned.
“It’s okay” Rosanne took Martha hand in hers.
“I understand you.”

“You don’t.” Martha scoffed.
“But I do.”
“You can never understand me Rosanne, no matter how you try”. Martha shook her head.
“I don’t have to be in your shoes to understand. Fine, maybe I have never loved another betrothed but I know how you feel, love can be strange and we cannot control it. I cannot change how you feel or beg the stars to let you have Garam but I know for sure, things will turn around for you Martha. I do love Garam, but maybe, just maybe, I can talk to the stars, I’d let you have him for just a day and be happy for once.” Rosanne shrugged..

“Silly you, even if you do let me have him for a day, he can never love me, Garam despises me” Martha spat.
“He doesn’t. He can be airheaded sometimes, but he doesn’t. I promise”. Rosanne smiled.

“I’ll keep that in mind, you and Garam are just so perfect that I feel like I’m ruining it by unnecessary falling for him.” Martha sighed.
“Perfect.” Rosanne repeated. “Garam and I are far from perfect.
“You’re both not”.
“We are. And tonight we both found ourselves in a brawl.”
“Really?” Martha was far from surprised.
“Yes, He lowly thinks something outrageous is happening between the crown prince and I. When clearly nothing is going on.” Rosanne shook her head.
“That is one to think of.” Martha shrugged.
“What do you mean by that.” Rosanne snapped.

“I mean… I did have a glimpse of the crown prince today and he is far from unsightly, he is Aesthetic and charming. And you, you are clearly the same, what if Garam is right, what if something isn’t happening but something will happen.”
“I do not understand you Martha.” Rosanne huffed.
“And you’re home. It’s late, why don’t you head in first” Martha rushed her words pointing to Rosanne’s father cottage.

“Tell me what you mean by that.”
“It’s late. Don’t think about what I said.” Martha sighed.
“No tell me, I’m leaving for sylph tomorrow, what do you mean by something will happen.” Rosanne was getting fierce.
“Fine… What if eventually you fall for the crown prince or he falls for you.” Martha breathed out, stepping in front of Rosanne, her height towering Rosanne’s height.
“That can never happen. I do not understand, why is everyone seeing different, I am nothing but the crown prince’s servant. And he can never fall for me.”
“And how are you sure about that?”
“Because I know the crown prince. Love is one thing he can hærdly feel.” Rosanne stated.

“As long as he’s human, he breathes in air. Lives under this sky, he will and can fall in love. Do not underestimate” Martha snarled.
“Martha. Thank you for your time and good night. You’re all getting this wrong” Rosanne sighed.

“Well good night, I do have to get home too.” Martha said and with that, she started walking away.
Rosanne sighed and watched her go, before stepping into her own home.
.
“Rosanne.” Her father called immediately his daughter stepped into the bright cottage.
“Father. Good evening.” she greeted politely.

“Where have you been Rose” Zackary sighed.

Rosanne glanced at the corner of the cottage to see Garam, seated quietly and helping himself with a wooden bottle of water.

“I’ve been out.” Rosanne breathed out. “With the crown prince.”

Garam’s head snapped up.
“The crown prince?” Zackary replied.
“Yes, he wanted to explore Orrander.”

“You missed the lantern wish” Zackary sighed.
“I know that, but I did make a wish. A lantern came to us and the crown prince and I made a wish, so I did not miss it” Rosanne smiled.

“Fine then, you’re leaving for sylph tomorrow.?”

“Yes… Somehow I feel excited somehow I don’t” Rosanne sighed.
“And why would you feel excited leaving for sylph?” Garam snapped.
“Let’s not do this tonight Garam.” Rosanne sighed.
“I’ll leave you two alone now.” Zackary sighed, shaking his head before walking away.
“No father, do not leave. And listen to this”
