“Who is he?” Anastasia asked, staring at the figure standing beside the door.

“This is Mr Jayden Donaldson, son of Mr Donaldson of the Coff Enterprise. He’s actually the owner of the restaurant you work in.” Bella introduced.

Anastasia looked at the young gentleman, forcing a smile on her face. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr Donaldson.” She stretched out for a handshake.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Miss r-manoff.” He said, shaking her hand.

Jayden sensed some thing was wrong some where. First, she asked Bella who he is, and secondly, she called him Mr Donaldson. She never calls him that, she does call him Mr Jayden.

Anastasia looked at the flower in his hand, he looked at it too, smiling. “Well, I heard what happened to you, so I brought you this.”

Anastasia smiled again. “Thank you, Mr Donaldson.” She sniffed the flower, it had a sweet smell. “I love it.”

Jayden smiled. He looked at Bella. “Can I have a word with you, please?” He asked.

“Yeah, sure.” They exited the room to a corner.

“What the heck is going on?” He asked.

“Well, Mr Jayden, a lot is going on right now because Ana here, is really not the Ana you once knew. I’m pretty sure you heard the news. She got hit by a car last night which led to severe brain damage.” She sighed. “She doesn’t remember any thing or any one.”

“Jesus Christ.” He shoved his hair backward. “How severe is it?” He asked, concerned.

“Very. It’s not just temporal, it’s permanent which means it’s gonna take a lot of time to get her senses back to normal.”

He sighed in confusion.

“But, there’s only one way to save her.”

“Which is.” He said immediately.

There’s only one way but that was so difficult for Bella to say. She knew doing so would only end up breaking Anastasia’s trust for her. It was a helpful, yet dreadful one.

“Talk to me, what is it? I can do any thing to bring her back.” He said desperately.

“I don’t wanna say this but… you have to play like the two of you are lovers. It might help her remember some thing about you.” She said, hating herself for telling him in the first place.

“I thought she had a boyfriend already.” He said.

“Yes, she does. But right now, he has a lot he is working on and it’s gonna take a lot of his time. Look, it’s not like I am asking you to date her or any thing, all you have to do is to be there for her. Let her believe she is never alone. Take her out, have dinner, get some fresh air together, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna help.” She suggested.

“Are you sure this is gonna work?” He asked to be sure.

“As long as you’re always there for her, I’m certain this is the best idea.” She assured him.

“Fine. I’ll meet with the doctor. Take care of yourselves.” He said, leaving.

“I will.” She said almost like a whisper, walking back into the room.

“What took you so long?” Anastasia said as soon as she walked in. “What did he say?” She asked.

“Well, he was only concerned about you, that’s all. You know, he’s been your favorite customer, so he was worried about not seeing you at work.”

“When you mention my work, I feel like I’m some one special.” She said with a slight blush on her cheek.

“Of course, you are. He also comes to your restaurant with his best friends, rich friends and he never leaves without paying double.”

“He does?” Anastasia asked, surprised.

“He always does it, and some how, I think it’s become a habit of his. But… I also found out some thing during this short period of studying.” She said, w¡dening her eyes.

“You mean the college studying?” Anastasia asked.

“College?” She scoffed. “Who gives a fu*k about college? I’m talking about the two of you. You and Mr Jayden, I figured out that he really likes you so much.”

Anastasia blushed, but it fades immediately.

Bella noticed it, she asked. “What’s the matter?” She asked. “You should be happy.”

“I know. It’s just… he’s handsome, and wealthy and tall and… who will ever give a fu*k about me? Take a look at me, Bella, I’m an orphan, a poor helpless orphan. I’m the typical opposite of what he is.” She chuckled. “It’s pointless to care about if he loves me or not.”

Bella felt sad, but that wasn’t the end of the story yet. “Well, there’s some one else who didn’t give a fu*k about who or what you are. Some one who owns every part of your life, some one you can never do without. Do you wanna know who this some one is?”

Ana’s cheek was growing red, her mouth slightly open with a smile. She nodded her head. “Of course, I do.”

“That’s me.” She said with pride, pointing at herself.

The smile on Anastasia’s face faded off, she eyed her. “Can you ever for once be serious in your life?”

“Okay. Okay, it’s a guy. A rich, tall handsome guy.”

“Handsome than Mr Donaldson?”

“Ten times more handsome than Mr Donaldson, and trust me, you can never ever take your eyes off him.”

Anastasia gasped a wow. “Where is he? Is he in the state?”

“No, he’s not for the meantime.”

“So, what’s his name?” She asked.

“His name is… Pablo.”

“Pablo?” She repeated. “Just Pablo? Well, that’s a weird name.” She scoffed.

Bella feared to tell her his full name. Seeing the way she had cursed Mr Vito, promising to take revenge for killing her parents, she decided on hiding his surname from her to avoid her hating him.

“When you two were a thing, you didn’t care about how weird his name sounded.”

Anastasia moved her head at both sides but still maintained her gaze at Bella. She looked at the book in her hand, bringing it closer to her face.

“What’s going on, Ana?” Bella asked, growing uncomfortable with what she was doing.

“I think I’m blind, Bella, I can’t see a thing.” She said,

“You what?!” Bella snapped.

“The writings are blurry and you’re appearing double in my eyes. I think I’m having an eye problem.”

“Holy shit! When did it start?”

“Just now! Now!” She said in a loud voice. “Bella do some thing. Please do some thing about it!”

“Calm down, Ana, you’re freaking me out. It’s just an eye problem and nothing much. Don’t worry, I’ll go get the doctor.” She calmed her down.

Bella left the room to get the doctor. Anastasia was taken to the eye clinic section where she was examined. Anastasia’s eye condition resulted in her spending the rest of her life wearing glasses.

“You look beautiful in glasses.” Bella complimented.

“I miss my eyes.” She said sadly.

“Come on, Ana, it’s not like it’s been stolen from you. You still have it intact in your eye sockets.”

“Can’t you for once sound lovely? Gosh!” She eyed her.

“I’ve talked with the doctor, you’ll be discharged tomorrow morning. Then, I’ll take you to your restaurant and you’ll see what I am talking about.”

Anastasia smiled. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Anastasia’s phone rang. Bella looked at it, it was Pablo calling. She thought he was finally in Chicago. Maybe he’s only calling to ask for their whereabouts.

She left the room to answer the call. “Hello?”

“Hey, Bella, it’s me Pablo.” He said from the other side of the line.

“I know.”

“How is Ana?” He asked.

“She’s getting better.” She replied.

“How about the internal bleeding? Has it stopped already?” He asked.

“Yeah, it has. She looks better like nothing happened.”

“What about… her memory?”

Bella sighed. “It’s not getting any better, sir. The only thing she remembers is me, any thing else…” she shakes her head. “…she doesn’t remember it.”

Pablo was calm. He didn’t say a word, Bella thought he had hung the call but when she checked on it, it was still counting.

“Mr Escobar, are you there?” She asked to know if he was on the call. “Mr Escobar, I think you should come over to Chicago, she needs you more than ever.”

“I wish I could but… I can’t. My father is dead, and the empire belongs to me now. I can’t just leave now the empire needs me. You’re her friend, right? I need your help.”

“Tell me, I’ll do whatever it is.” She said,

“I want you to do whatever it takes to make her remember. Whatever it is, you can take her out for dinner, have a walk, hang out, any thing. Whatever you need, feel free to call me, I’ll help.”

“I’ll do it, I promise.”

“And…” he paused, then continued. “I think that’s all for now.”

Bella knew what he wanted to say. All he wants is to get Anastasia to remember him, he wishes he could do all these himself… with the empire involved, he can’t. Not yet.

Bella walked in with a sad face. It hurts to see Anastasia in such a condition, worst of all, not remembering a thing. It’s all gonna take a long way to get her to remember some thing.

“Bella, who called?” She asked.

Bella looked at her with a sad face. “He called.” She mentally said.

Was it necessary to tell her who it was that called? Even if she has to, Anastasia doesn’t remember who he is. Just a few minutes after they had talked about him, she felt his name sounded weird. Would she be able to understand even if she had to explain it all a million times?
