CHAPTER FOUR : SILLY SUGGESTIONS
Muchen exhale then look at li-mu ” don’t you think she behaves strangely?”
” She do have the right to get angry milord ” li-mu replied and am so very offended ” you didn’t visit her for over five years ”
” Hmmm” mumbling, I look back at her quarters and grimace, I do not wish to see her face again, she really terrifies me, and I wish not to see her anymore ” find that maid for me li-mu ”
” Milord, you are truly are funny ”
” Huh”
” Nothing, milord, I will do as you say” nodding my head, I move back to my quarters, my neck and shoulders hurt badly, due to the hunt last night? I never knew it will have this much impact on me.
” Milord ” hearing Mona voice, I turn around and stare at her, she look really worried and those eyes, all I could see is fear in them ” milord ” she repeat her words when she step closer.
” Queen Mona” I mumble ” what have you looking so troubled?”
” Your highness” holding my hands, I watch her move closer, the maids and guards are starting to watch now, and for some reasons she increase her voice ” queen Jing has threaten to kill my child ” I blink and stare at her, I have always wondered if Mona was the stupid kind but not really.
She is actually trying her best to ruin queen Jing reputation and this should be the part, I act furious and angry but I don’t have that in me today.
I actually don’t care.
” Oh ” mumbling I frown ” that’s awful” watching the disarray in her gaze I exhale ” leave me for now Mona, am not in good health ”
” What’s wrong, your highness?”
” Go to your quarters, I will deal with queen Jing later ” that’s a lie, I don’t plan on doing anything concerning this child or the mother, he or she can die for all I care.
If it will bring this much trouble to me, I don’t want it.
Stepping into my chambers, I frown at the sight of my mother ” your highness” mumbling, I step in looking quite tired to deal with this today.
” You have heard the news right?”
” Indeed ”
” Won’t you do something concerning queen Jing”
” Do as you please mother ”
” Muchen gang!!” Calling my full name, I look at her and notice how angry and old she is getting ” you need to drop this attitude of yours, you are a king and will soon be a father ”
” Never did I ask for a child mother ”
” Then you shouldn’t have spent your night with a woman ” listening to her has always been stressful
” Silence” I growl, getting tired of each word that leave her mouth ” leave my quarters at once”
” Muchen?”
” It’s your king order ” watching her dash out with anger, the door shut, I relax properly on the bed, eyes closed and breathing maintained, could they be anyway I can drop the title of king and father?
Lifting my hands up, I hold my chest from the pain I felt earlier when meeting Jing, it’s always happen like this…..it’s painful, even when that maid was here, I could feel that slight pain.
Maybe everyone close to queen Jing is threatening me, I must stay clear of her, at all means.
” Milord ” remaining quiet, she speak on ” I have come to apologize for my behavior earlier” hearing that voice, I sit up and stare at queen Jing, swallowing hard…… Are my peaceful days over.
” You need not come here ”
” I merely came to apologize milord ”
” You may leave ” I expected her to turn around and leave but she didn’t, she remain standing, eyebrows furrow and hands clench, is she planning to attack me?
” Milord ”
Trying to change the topic, I stand up and look at her, no expression on my face ” I heard you are trying to kill my unborn child ”
” And if I say yes?”
” I will have to punish you ”
” Punish me? You have no proof I did anything” she growl, why do she keep on getting mean by the second ” besides you don’t care about the child ” my eyes widen, it must be the only reaction she has gotten from me. How did she know?
Can she read mind?
” Why do you care if I kill it anyway ”
” Queen Jing ” I smile ” leave my presence ”
“I only came here to say a few words milord ” she bow her head ” and since your wife have finally have the courage to pay you a visit after five years, shouldn’t you offer me a tea?” She lift her head and I stare at her.
Unlike Mona who is stupid, navie, dull and foolish…..this Jing will bring me alot of trouble, she is too feisty, plan on getting everything she want done and that too at the time she demand
” I do not feel like…….” Before I could complete my sentence, she clap her hands and her maid, step in with table, two chairs and tray with two cups and jug.
She arranged all these before coming too? You can’t disobey your king this way!
” Your highness, please have your seat ” watching her sit down, I exhale then pull out my chair and sit.
” Speak ”
” Grant me permission to see you everyday ” the cup stop midway after hearing her request, looking at her, I notice how vulnerable she look ” I wish to see you everyday and that too at night ”
I almost choke on the tea ” night?” I frown ” what for ?”
” I wish to bear your child ”
that made me frown ” preposterous” I watch her flinch and withdraw” you come to my quarters, unannounced, I said nothing concerning that and now you bring this ridiculous suggestion?” Growling, I stand to my feet ” have you no manners ”
Watching him grow in anger, I remain seated and frown ” did I ask for too much ” looking at him, I try fighting the tears that threatening to fall ” you tried raping a maid, so why not sleep with me!!” Using that against him was wrong but am angry, why do he loathe me so much?
” Leave my presence”
” Your highness”
” At once!!!!!!”
Standing up, I step out of his chamber, my maids head bow but fang shake her head, probably telling me not to cry ” none of what happened today should leak out ” I force the words out of my lips ” or else I will kill all of you ”
” As you wish your highness” they all said same word but before I could leave, lord Muchen personal assistant move towards my direction, what’s his name again? Li-mu
” Milady, lord Muchen still wishes to see your maid ” with the look in his eyes, he fully know it is I ” I will advice you warn her probably on what will happen if the king image is tarnished? She might die ” looking at him, he force smile on his face ” excuse me ” watching him leave, I squeeze my hands.
Alot of things have happened today, Mona news, queen mother invitation, finally meeting the king and me almost ruining his reputation.
I should probably rest ” fang come with me ” I mumble when we step out of the king quarters ” the rest of you are dismissed” they bow their head before leaving, I decided to move to the old palace, built south.
It’s quite far on foot but I still continued.
” Milady, is something bothering you ”
” No fang ” mumbling I smile ” am just sad, it appears the king truly hate me” the reasons I Know not of? What did I possibly do to him, why did he get so angry when I bring out the issue of birthing his child.
” What about Mona pregnancy”
” It’s done milady ” fang responded ” I heard most of the other queens planing on putting poison in her food to cause miscarriage, the third queen, queen hua already switched her drugs to that of abortions pills ”
” That’s horrible” I chuckle.
” Am glad you don’t have to stain your hands milady?” Fang mumble, happiness is evident in her voice, I stop then look at the sky, the sun already going to rest
” Yes fang, am glad ” a lot of things are going to happen tomorrow and by the time I heard the news about throwing a ball for Mona pregnancy celebration.
I believe the king has finally lost it, perhaps he truly want the child dead.

CHAPTER FIVE : GLIMPSE OF FEAR 1
Jing stare outside her window, a week have passed after I storm into lord Muchen quarters, I said nothing to him and he haven’t even bothered to pay me a visit either, am still pretty sure he is looking for the so called maid.
” Milady, dinner is ready ”
” Fang?”
” Yes milady ”
” What do you think about Mona pregnancy, have you completed what I asked?”
” Yes milady ” looking at fang, she move closer ” queen Mona believed me completely and have ask me to inform you of her visit today”
” Today?”
” Yes milady ”
” After a week, she have finally decided to see me? How kind of her ” rolling my eyes at my words, I look at fang who’s head is still bow down ” what do you think of me dressing like a maid to lord Muchen quarters?”
” Milady?”
” Speak freely fang ”
” I definitely think it’s risky to try something of that kind, what if the king recognize you ?”
” He won’t ” I mumble ” I just want to see him, I won’t try to go when he is awake anyway ” looking outside the window I nod ” I will go late at night to stare at him sleeping ”
” Just like before?”
” Yes but this time, as a maid”
” But why, if I may ask ”
” You may not fang ” replying, I breath out calmly before noticing queen Mona carriage approaching my quarters ” arrange for tea, fang ”
” Yes milady ”
” Queen Mona is here to visit milady ” hearing the maid voice, I nod then speak
” Let her in ” the door open revealing queen Mona, she look so overwhelmed, black sighs under her eyes…..the moment the door shut, I motion my hands and direct her to sit on the mat, I expected her to refuse but to my surprise, she did as I asked.
” Queen Jing ” she look at me ” are you behind all the advances to kill my child?”
” And if I was?” Furrowing my brows, I notice how she clench her hands ” what will you do about it queen Mona?”
” I will ask of you to stop ” she frown ” this is the king child, have you no fear?”
That made me chuckle ” queen Mona, relax yourself, I plan to help you, not to kill your child ” I watch confusion dawn on her
” What do you mean ”
” Did you do exactly what my maid ask you to do?”
” Yes, I didn’t take the drugs and I stop eating each food brought to me ”
” If you didn’t trust me, your child will be dead by now, I know you had the drugs tested to confirm” she nod
” Why help me ?”
“Help?” I stand up and look at her ” do you think my protection come freely?” Moving closer, I bend down and stare at her ” you will do as I say and I will keep the other queens at bay…..as you can see, nothing goes outside my watch ”
” Queen Jing, am not stupid enough to agree to this ”
” I can have you killed, queen Mona you should know your place ” standing up, I move close to the window ” don’t think because the king, is spending his night with you mean you’re the joy in his life, have you forgotten your position in the ranking of the queens” I listen to her movement, she stood up.
” I will not have you throw insults at me queen Jing ” turning around, I watch how angry she looks and I won’t lie, it’s satisfying ” with this child, I will look down at you, once this child is out into this world”
I chuckle at her silly words ” out? That child means nothing until he is named the crown prince, that’s if it’s a boy” her eyes widen, she probably didn’t think of that ” I will say this again, am the first wife of the king, who will definitely produce the crown prince but as for you……if you wish for this baby to be born, you will do as I say ”
Silence engulf us, we stare at each other for minutes but no words escaped our lips….I didn’t pick Mona to be the kind to think deeply before agreeing, she must be wary of me.
I will sure protect her from other queens, that wasn’t a lie, I meant everything I said
” I accept your deal queen Jing”
” Just don’t say it, prove it ” I smile ” the moment lord Muchen comes to your chambers, send him away ”
” Queen Jing!!!”
” What is it?” Looking at her, I step closer ” you can’t do it ”
” You’re asking for the impossible”
” I see, you wish not to bear this child. That’s fine to me, you can do as you please.”
” No queen Jing, it’s a deal, it’s a deal” she repeat it twice ” I will do ”
” I knew we will come to a reasonable agreement” smiling, I lift up the cup of tea and sip before speaking more ” from now on, do not eat or drink anything without inspecting it, tomorrow I will address the other queens ” looking at her, I notice the hatred in her eyes, the feeling is mutual anyway ” you should get ready for your ball right ”
” It’s has been postponed”
” Oh ”
” Excuse me ” watching her leave, I couldn’t help but to smile, what a silly little queen, she has no idea how hard life is out here, did she think because she is quiet, kind and lovely, everyone will love her?
Stupid mentality.
I learnt the truth the hard way.
” Milady ” fang muttered ” your dinner is served in your dinning room” guessing from the change in voice, someone is probably there.
” Who is it” I asked and she shake her head, that only means one thing, people are outside and she can’t speak of it without them hearing and was ordered not to announce his or her arrival.
Who could it be, queen hua? The king? I doubt the king will make any effort to pay me a visit, so who ?
But since fang look Iess bothered, it means this person has no meaningful use.
” Alright, lead the way ” stepping out of my chamber into the hallway, I stare at the number to maids outside which completely made me realize who she is
Queen xiang, the second queen of the nation, is today all about meeting with these stupid queens…..what do she want ?
” What do I owe this visit” I mumble the moment I step in, she stand to her feet and smile
” I heard you were about having dinner so I decided to join you, hope I didn’t interrupt anything?”
” Of course not ” taking my seat, I look at her ” so what is your main reason for coming here?” She sit down then smile.
” I just heard you are allies with queen Mona ”
” Why will I be her ally?” I frown
” I notice she step out of your quarters few minutes back ”
” And so what?” I smile right back ” haven’t you heard that it’s crucial to keep your enemies close ”
” You’re surely brilliant queen Jing” xiang face turn completely to mockery ” am surprised you’re not pregnant” all the queen knows that am the only one the king refuse to touch, he might not visit them frequently but he did bed them.
” That’s a shame xiang ” I chuckled” you appear to be barren ” we both chuckle and I watch her stand to her feet with clenched fist
” It was nice dinning with you ”
” I don’t know what you speak about queen xiang ” I frown ” the feeling us not mutual” watching her leave with anger got me relaxed, she definitely looking for who to spice up her evening…..wishing to play these games with me are not fun.
” Fang!”
She run in ” milady ”
” What happened”
” Queen Mona has sent the king back to his chambers, using the lie of headache”
” Perfect” standing up I smile ” I shall pay him a visit now ” not as the queen though, he has been looking for the maid right, I should give him his wish.
