∆ SCHOOL DORM ∆

Francis got to the dorm he uses with his friends only to see Nicholas in the room.

“Why are you here?” Nicholas asked as Francis came to seat on the sofa beside him.

“I needed to give someone a thinking space” Francis replied.

“Who? Joanna?” Nicholas asked and Francis nodded.

“Tell me, what will you do if you confess to a girl and she doesn’t believe you ” Francis ask.

“Well I would show her my sincerity” Nicholas asked.

“By doing what?”

“By sticking to her side twenty four seven until she gets sick of my face” Nicholas said grinning foolishly while Francis frown his way.

“Is that the only answer you can give?” Francis asked and Nicholas nodded.

“Sure. Girls love it when you are all over them and am sure that this girl you are trying to impress will love it too. ” Nicholas said.

He promised to give her time to think but if he should do as Nicholas says will that work? He thought letting out a frustrated sigh when the song Nicholas was humming in his head began to disturb him.

“Shut up!” Francis said suddenly which got Nicholas starring at him.

“Me? But I wasn’t even talking ” Nicholas said.

“That song you keep on singing in your head, stop! It’s way off beat” Francis said getting off the sofa.

“But I wasn’t singing that out ” Nicholas voice followed him even as he went out of the room.

“Whatever! Just stop it, it’s ruining my ear bud and also prepare my room, I will be staying here for tonight” Francis said.

“I knew it! You must have annoyed Joanna and ended up getting kicked out but don’t worry, there’s always a place for you here you homeless boy” Nicholas said jokingly.

“F**k you” Francis replied even as he left.

He made a turn into the hall leading out side when he saw Pierce.

Pierce look up just as Francis saw him and for a brief moment their eyes clashed, Francis tried to listen to Pierce thought but he couldn’t hear a thing since Pierce wasn’t thinking.

Francis tried to walk past Pierce without saying a thing but Pierce had another thing in mind.

“How is she?” Pierce asked.

“Why do you care?” Francis asked in return.

“Cause I want to know” Pierce replied and at that moment Francis saw some thing in his eyes, some thing which got him feeling uneasy.

“You don’t only want to know, you also want to see her right?” Francis asked referring to Joanna.

“I doubt if she will want to see me” Pierce returned.

“You love her? Don’t you?” Francis ask again surprising Pierce who hadn’t even thought of that.

“Love? Of course not. I just….am just worried about her” he said.

“Then I hope it keeps being that way ”

“Why? Are you scared I might steal her away if I decides to ?” Pierce asked.

“To you Joanna might be a play thing but to me she means the whole world and I won’t let you hurt her even though you now feel some thing for her ” Francis said before walking on, leaving Pierce starring after him.

Pierce was about to go into the lounge when his phone began to ring and the caller turns out to be Jocelyn.

He didn’t feel like talking to her and so he ended the talk.

∆ NEXT DAY ∆

Joanna was heading into school still brooding over her conversation with Francis when a car horn beside her, jolt her back to reality.

She turn only to see Pierce in his car, waving at her.

Her thinking required her time from both Pierce and Francis and so she didn’t want to see any one of them but with Pierce being here and all she has no choice and besides she already told him to let them remain as friends and if she should ignore him now, it will seem weird.

Taking a deep breath, she went into the car forcing a smile on her face as she put on the seat belt.

“Good morning ” she greeted.

“Morning, for a while I thought you were going to ignore me” Pierce said starring at her intently.

“Why would I ? I said we should be friends and not ignore each other” she replied still having that forced smile on her face.

“Am glad then cause I would have felt bad if you choose to ignore me” he said and she found herself starring at him wondering why he would feel bad if she chose to ignore him.

“I know this might sound foolish and all but can we start again?” He asked suddenly.

“Uh?”

“Can we start over, we forget about the past few days and start afresh” he said again.

“That sounds……good. Am fine with it” she said.

“Since we are starting afresh you won’t mind if I ask you out tonight right?” He asked startling her again.

“Ask me out? ” She repeated again.

“Yes, I want to take you out and if you won’t mind, I would like us to get to know each other better” He answered.

“Errr ……I think we should….” She got startled when another car horning loudly distracted her.

On seeing the plate number of the car which horn, Pierce let out a sigh and turn to her.

“I will be right back” he said turning to leave but Joanna stopped him.

“Do you know who it is?” Joanna asked not liking the black tinted wind screen which the car had.

“My dad” Pierce said before going into the other car which was parked right in front of them.

Joanna remembered the night of the party and she wondered if his father is once again abusing him.

It’s been thirty minutes since he left and thinking the worse had happen, she open the door and was about leaving his car when she saw him got out of the black car.

Having a sad expression on his face, he got into the car with her just as the black car roared off.

“What happen?” Joanna asked.

“Nothing” he said forcing a smile on his lips.

“Are you sure? You look pale, did he hit you?” She asked feeling worried.

“Joanna, please do me a favour” he said suddenly.

“What is it?”

“Can you please leave” he requested which earned him a frown from her.

“Please, I need to be alone” he said, she stared at him for a few more minutes before leaving just like he said.

And as soon as she was out of his car, he drove off leaving her feeling more worried.

~ HOURS LATER ~

“If he went as far as to confess to you then you should give him a chance cause to be sincere, I like Francis for you” Mirabel said as they left their class together.

“Who don’t you like for me?” Joanna asked.

“Think about it? Who decided to help you get Pierce, Francis. Who turned you into a swan who is now attractive in Pierce eyes, Francis. Who was always there for you when you needed…..”,

“Okay! Okay! Okay! I get your point. Francis have always been there for me when I needed him and surely I should feel the same way but……” She paused.

“But what?” Mirabel urged.

“I don’t know, am just so confuse right now” she said.

“What’s confusing you? Is it Pierce?” Mirabel asked.

“He asked me out today, he said he wanted us to start afresh and that he wants to take me out but then his father came and he grew distant” she said remembering the whole thing again.

“Speaking of Pierce, have you seen him today?” Joanna asked.

👤” Did you hear that Pierce got into an accident today”

👤”No, is it serious?”

👤”Well I don’t know, I only witnessed his car being pulled out of the ditch but I don’t know how he is but am sure that he will be injured badly”

Two girls who were walking by at that moment said and that got Mirabel and Joanna looking at each other.

“I will see you later” Joanna said running off before Mirabel could stop her.

“Update me about his health okay?” Mirabel yelled after her.

She turn to leave only to see Jessica behind her.

“Gosh! You scared me” Mirabel said moving back wards.

“We’ve got to talk” Jessica said folding her arms.

“About what?” Mirabel asked wondering what Convo she had in common with her.

“Nicholas” Jessica said which got Mirabel brow raising.

“What about Nicholas?” Mirabel asked.

“Nicholas is mine and so it’s best that you stay away” Jessica warned.

“Yours? From what I know, Nicholas is single” she said.

“Does it seem that way to you then it will be shocking once you know that he isn’t” Jessica retorted.

“You must probably be one of those girls who keep throwing yourself at him?” Mirabel asked angering Jessica.

“On the contrary am someone Nicholas needs. If it weren’t for me then Nicholas won’t be here and just so you know Nicholas is dangerous,am sure you know nothing of his past right?”Jessica asked glaring at Mirabel.

“What’s there to know about his past?” Mirabel countered.

“A lot is, a lot is there for you to know and let me tell you, you won’t like it. So love, stay away now before you end up being hurt” Jessica said sauntering off leaving Mirabel feeling confused.

∆ HOSPITAL ∆

Thanks to Nicholas who told her what hospital room Pierce is, Joanna got there on time and after a brief knock, she went into his ward leaving the door open a bit.

Apart from a bandage which was wrap around his right arm, he was seated on his bed gazing outside through the open window.

“Hello” she greeted and on seeing her a smile lit his face.

“You are actually my third visitor today ” he said motioning her to come close with his head.

She did and stood by his bed side starring down at him.

“After dropping you off, I was so busy with my thoughts that I ended up driving into a ditch and luckily for me, I only broke my right arm” he said smiling.

“It’s not funny, you could have died” Joanna said.

“Do you mean it?” He asked suddenly.

“Mean what?”

“Your being worried? Are you really feeling worried or is it just an act?” He asked.

“How can you call it an act? I truly am worried about you” Joanna said.

“Help me seat up” he said suddenly.

“How do I achieve that?” She ask.

“Well there’s a lift button on the bed some where search for it” Pierce said which got her doing it.

She saw the button on the other side of the bed and so she bent over Pierce and press the button which got the bed rising a bit.

She was about to move when he held her by the waist, preventing her from moving away.

“Can I ask you this question?” He said starring at her.

“What is it?” Joanna asked feeling uncomfortable by their current position.

“Do you still love me?” Pierce asked.

“I…..I don’t….” She didn’t get to finish her sentence because Pierce move her towards him and kiss her on the lips.

Joanna was too startled to move but on hearing a sound at the door way, she pulled free only to see Francis standing there with a stricken look on his face.

“Francis” she called slowly and took a step towards him only for Pierce to hold her back.

She turned to stare at Pierce who had a ‘dont go’ expression on his face and when she turn back to look at Francis it was to see the door way empty.

“Don’t go after him” Pierce said and that got her pulling away from him.

“You did that on purpose right?” Joanna asked.

“Am sorry, I just didn’t want him to take you away and….”

“That was a selfish thing to do!” Joanna said feeling very angry.

“I know and am sincerely sorry but am not sorry for the kiss or for him seeing us ” Pierce said.

“You really are a jerk” she said before taking her things to leave.

When she got outside, she was hoping to see Francis but there was no sign of him.

She hailed a taxi and while she told him to take her back to school, she began to talk to him through her thought, hoping he would hear it.

★IF YOU CAN HEAR ME FRANCIS, PLEASE CALL ME. IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK★

She said in her head and a while later she got a call but it was from Pierce.

Ignoring the call, she got out of the taxi and after paying the cab driver. She ran into school heading to the private house the four of them use but there was no sign of him.

She hailed another taxi and ask him to take her to the apartment she shared with him and as soon as she got home, she went straight to his room but there was still no sign of him.

She turn, prepared to leave again only to see him curled up on the chair with his eyes closed.

Letting out a relieved sigh, she went towards him and knelt in front of the chair starring at him.

Sensing her presence, he open his eyes starring straight at her.

“Francis” she called making a sad pout, he stood up wanting to go to his room but she pulled him back.

“We’ve got to talk” she said.

“We don’t have anything to talk about. What I saw gave me your answer and I accept it, you love Pierce and so am out which is fine with me. Am not someone to break down from a refusal, I will move on by finding some one new, so you don’t have to worry or…..Arrgh! That hurts!” He yelled when she slapped his back hard.

“How could you say you will find some one new that easily ?” She asked as a tear slid off her face.

” I have to, if I must get over you then I have to” He replied.

“How can you say that to me! Just when I realized that it’s you I want, that it’s you I love and not Pierce !” She said now sobbing hard.

“What did you say?” Francis asked.

“The kiss with Pierce a while ago was his doing and not mine. I stopped loving Pierce a long time ago, I thought that what I felt was still love but today I realised that it was just a fantasy and that it’s you I love but then you want to move on from me, fine then! You can go ahead and do that” she said turning to leave.

She had only taken a step when he wrap his arms around her, preventing her from leaving.

“Am never moving on from you,I don’t think I can cause you have forever stolen my heart, you’ve got me falling helplessly for you” he muttered turning her to stare at him.

“I love you Joanna, I love you” he added before claiming her lips…….
