Every time your mind shifts, your world shifts. We often say that we want peace of mind but what we really want is peace from mind. Crucifix wanted to break the shackle of embarrassment in his life and it must start from his mind. He needed both peace of mind and peace from mind. Sincerely, no one else could give him that but Margret. He could feel the attraction like magnet of different poles. It’s just so sadden that the more he tries to get her attention of attraction, the more bundle of embarrassment he bundles for himself. To complicate issues, Kenny High wasn’t the best place to get want he wanted even though what he wanted was in Kenny High. Oh, poor boy. Nevertheless, teenage hormones never let him set his mind fully on the right path. To him, Margret is a subordinate to the path that seems right otherwise remain incomplete. Therefore, he remained resolute to have his peace from his mind.

Kenny High dismissed for the day and Margret returned home happily, briskly flung her school bag on the bed. She opened her wardrobe to see many clothes which made selection very difficult for her. She wanted the best of them. Wait, what does she need the cloth for? You can’t believe it! She was excitedly preparing for her first date! Who could that be?

Margret finally selected a gown. She walked to a mirror to analyze how sophisticated she looks on it. Unfortunately, in the process, Eda entered.

“You seem excited about something.” she startled the young girl.

Margret swiftly turned to her. “Good evening, mama Eda. Am i?”

The woman totally walked in,side. “It’s written all over you. What are you up to?” she sat at the edge of her bed.

“Uhm… Mama Eda?” she sat beside her too, thinking the best way to express her request. But she must, so she gazed at her with trembling l-ips. “You know I’m kinda close to sixteen. Tonight may be my kinda first date too.”

“Really?”

Margret nodded her head, patiently waiting for her approval. Eda, truly, kept her waiting thereby rising her paturbation and lengthy tranquility. She exhaled deeply and said, “Our camera hasn’t caught anybody and you’ve not received any package again.”

Margret couldn’t believe she changed the topic! Was it a ‘no’ to her request to go on a date? Holy shit! She had to do something. “Mama Eda, actually, may be it’s because the person has noticed the camera.” she replied.

Who said so? Margret didn’t want the nanny to know that she has found the unknown person. She just didn’t want her to know that it’s a boy. As a matter of fact, he’s the person she was going on a date with.

“I see..” Eda stood up. “You’ll go on your first date but I’ll like to see the boy who wants to take you out.” she concluded.

“No problemo!” she grinned excitedly and returned to the mirror…

Almighty Crucifix once again felt the texture of his local bed when he got home from school. He neither removed his shoes no his clothes as he stared at the ceiling, reflecting on what happened at school. He really felt like not going back there, but the fire set in his heart by Margret hadn’t kindled.

“I don’t need to read the stars to know that your first day at school didn’t go well.” Geb’s voice brought back Crucifix mind from Kenny High to his sanctum. Yet, he neither said anything nor sat up.

The grandfather had to fix his butt on the edge of the bed. “You’re alright, son. Teenagers make a lot of mistake and it’s really good they make the mistake.”

Hearing that, Crucifix glanced at him.

“Yes!” Geb continued. “How can a teenager learn without making a mistake? He learn from his mistakes. So whatever thing that’s killing your mood, take it as a mistake, learn from it and never repeat it. Not a mother, nor a father, nor any other relative can do more for the well-being of one than a rightly-directed mind can. Our life is shaped by our mind; we become what we think. Joy follows a pure thought like a shadow that never leaves. If youwant power, control the narrative in other people’s head. If you seek happiness, control the narrative in your own head.” he concluded and walked out of the room. “I left some food for you.” his voice came from outside.

That was it! Crucifix wanted to set his mind to the right path and do the right thing which must include professing his love to Margret regardless the out come. Quickly, he stood up, picked a pen and a paper. You won’t believe what he was writing..

The sun had set, darkness began to find its way to that part of the world. Nelson, Raina’s father and his wife seated in the living room, watching a program on a television. The man was on caftan while the wife wore a fairly long gown. Unexpectedly, a knock came from the door.

The woman looked at the husband said. “Are you expecting someone?” she asked.

“No.” he replied.

“Raina!” the wife called before the girl ran down from the staircase wearing a black leggings and white top. “Check who is at the door.” the mother ordered.

Raina flung her butt to the door and was stunned at who she saw when she opened it. “Crucifix?” she whispered as both eyes never departed from each other. Crucifix had the opportunity to read her mind but that wasn’t in his mind.

“Who’s that?!” Nelson’s voice sank Crucifix’ heart down to his stomach once more.

Raina didn’t know how to answer her father, so she opened the door widely and stepped aside. Crucifix entered like a snail.

Furiously, Nelson sparked. “I thought I told you not to see you here…”

“I know!” Crucifix interrupted him. “I just want to set things right, that’s why I spent hours writing this.” he brought out the paper from his pocket while all stared it him.

The living room became quiet except the volume of the television which Nelson also totally reduced thereby increasing Crucifix’ heartbeat the more.

“Mister and misses Nelson, I’m Crucifix but hope you don’t crucify me.” he began, reading from the paper. “I live around the neighborhood. I apologise for my anomalous and atypical actions. Raina and I met months ago and we became friends.” he looked at the parents. “Like not like boyfriend and girlfriend, you know..” he swallowed hærd and turned to the paper again. “Raina has been a good friend to me which I wouldn’t want to end because of my abhorrent attitude. So I plead for a second chance and hope, once again you don’t crucify me.” he concluded.

Raina kept smiling while the parents waited to pass their judgement.

“So you didn’t have s–x with my daughter through the window.” Mrs. Nelson asked.

“s–x! No! I don’t even know how that is done. Raina, do you know?” he turned to the girl.

She shrugged her shoulder. “No, I don’t know too.”

Crucifix looked at the parents once more. “You see? We don’t even know how to do it.” he said.

Mr. Nelson shook his head amusingly. “This boy is full of drama. Alright, apology accepted.” he said.

“Really? Thank you so much, sir!” Crucifix had never been happier!

“Dad, can he stay for dinner?” Raina requested.

“That is also accepted.” He replied.

Whoa! Crucifix set a goal and accomplished it without sabotaging it. What a day! At least, the first problem has been solved. Next was Margaret and Kenny High generally.

On the other hand, at a restaurant, Margret could be seen seated opposite Caleb, a young popular boy in Kenny High School which every girl wished to date, but Margret gave him a hærd time. If not that Caleb took his friend’s advice about claiming to be the anticipated unknown person and strategized his manner of approach, Margret wouldn’t have given the date a thought. Nevertheless, she still feel lucky to have a date with the most popular boy in school. On the table before them were two bottles of drinks.

“So tell me why and how you knew exactly want I wanted before dropping them at my door steps? On the first day I picked up your note, I was stunned because it sounded like you know about my dead parents.” Margret broke the silence.

Caleb cleared his throat. “I saw you leaving the school gate sadly while driving home. You know, you always resisted me from approaching you or talk to you, so I thought the best way to express my words would be through a note.”

Damn, the boy is a good lyer! Crucifix should get prepared for him.

“So why the other things you dropped?” Margret was still inquisitive.

“Is it not obvious, Margie that I love you.” he located her delicate hands and held them gently. “You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever set my eyes on.”

“Thank you,” Margret was kind of shy.

The date ended r-mantically. Caleb had to drive her home in one of his father’s cars. Pulling over in front of their house, the two teenagers gaze at each other, sparkling beautifully.

“Thank you, once again for tonight?” Margret broke the silence.

“No, I should thank you.” Caleb replied. “I’ll see you tomorrow at school.” he added calmly.

“Okay.” Margret smiled as both stared in each other’s eyes. Gradually, they brought their heads together and k-sed. Oh, no! Crucifix dream, someone was already living it. So sad…
