THE DANGEROUS GAME
(THE DISCOVERIES)

EPISODE 23
Sylvia held her cheeks tightly as her face swayed to the right from the impact of the slap, while her face got covered, by her hair.
..
She looked at her father strangely, as if she was looking at a stranger.
..
Mr. Smith, came back to his senses immediately, as he stared apologetically at his daughter.
..
For the twenty one years of her life her father had never raised his hand to hit her, no matter what the provocation looks like or how she spoke. She was seriously surprised. As tears could be seen clouding her eyes, as she wept.
..
Her father looked at her and sighed in regret, as today was the first day he had lost his temper on her, and he knew it was all due to frustration, an anger where by all you do is for her own good but she simply doesn’t understand and listen to you for once.
..
“Sylvia I’m sorry.”
He muttered in resignation.
..
For a reply she ran towards him and hugged him while crying.
..
Mr. Smith was surprised, as he knew what his daughters temper was like, she would have walked away rudely and not talked to you for days or even weeks .
..
“I should be the one sorry dad. I have always been a bad daughter, acting impulsively without trying to hear you out as if you are the villain, I understand you are disappointed. I’m sorry dad.”
..
She muttered as she cried softly on his chest.
..
Yea everything her father did he did it for the family and not neglecting the bigger picture.
..
Hearing his daughter, Mr. Smith closed his eyes as tears clouded his sense of thinking, they were still in an embrace as tears filled his head. while drop of tears escaped the confines of his eyelid .
The general belief that real men don’t cry is a fallacy in most cases, at some points in a person’s life emotions do rule the greater part of one’s life, as everyone has their ups and downs.
..
“Sylvia I have really been a bad father and I have endangered our lives.”
Mr. Smith said softly.
..
He cupped her face up as he k-ssed her forehead tenderly, while helping her wipe her tears.
He drew her to a sit beside him.
..
“I have something to tell you dear, this is a secret I have held up for a long time. so that you would understand your father better and realise how a coward your father really is.
..
“It all started twelve years ago, when I was working as a chief editor in a multi national broadcast cooperation………….
(THE AUTHOR NARRATES IN PERSON)
FLASHBACK
..
Mr. Smith, was working in the cooperation his pay was really nice at least more than enough to carter for his family and an extra keep as savings for unforseen circ-mstance.
..
Mr. Smith had an amazing friend called Mr. Linus, who equally worked in the broadcast company too but was of a much higher ranking than him, he was one of the bosses in the company.
..
He later introduced Mr. Smith into the project known as “Into the welfare of Nigeria”
The project was basically to source out more and ask questions on how the economy of the country is expended and the secret ongoings.
..
But as the project ran and many secrets began to get uncovered, like in the case about the outright discovery of an embezzled 40 billion Naira by a senator known as Senator Edeth and that really got Mr. Linus and senator Edeth at daggers point, since Mr. Linus made the act public, and seeing all this Smith decided to be on his own, apologising that he can’t continue with him on the project. his main reason was to safeguard the life of his family, as he knew what a desperate politician could be like.
..
While running away from trouble, doesn’t really mean escaping one.
..
Mr. Smith had a problem with his salary paid to him that month, as the pay was one digit short off the count (like for example, if he was being paid 50,000, but instead got 5000, as an alert) he guessed the problem was a computer error, so he had to to his boss office.
..
On reaching there he started hearing discussions, in his boss office.
“I want him dead, and his family too, make sure you do the job cleanly my boy.”
A coarse voice could be heard from the office.
..
“Sir, I would make sure I do a clean job, he is under me, and I can easily monitor his movement. consider Linus a dead man.”
The boss said seriously.
..
Mr. Smith had, sweats cover his back as he heard the discussion, fear engulfed him as he tried to gently turn around and leave and know If he could contact Linus, but he wasn’t aware he was too close to the door and mistakenly had his feet dash at the door.

..
Charles had already started his move and his next target was Sen. Edeth, but he found the information regarding the man blurry, as he himself couldn’t just understand the man. it was like he existed and yet didn’t exist. He embezzled 40 billion Naira from the country twelve years ago and suddenly disappeared into thin air and appearing four years ago, back to Nigeria, with a clean record and no crime recorded against him.
..
Something really gives Charles the pricks about this Mr. Edeth.
..
After a while, he decided to drop it for now and concentrate on another man there, as he promised he would surely find out about Mr. Edeth.
..
He concentrated on an old sinister looking man, known as Boniface Obi in the gathering of the eight men.
..
As he threw the pen knife and had it pierce into the picture in the wall as a sign of execution.
