Hope and Revenge episode 2 – 3

**** 5th August,2017. Aston Villa, Accra, Ghana. 8:00pm.
She stares at her reflection in the dressing mirror, letting her f!ngerstrail over the two hvge ugly scars just above the flesh of her eyes.
She cringes like every other time when she sets eyes on the scar on her face, disfiguring her.
The scar that had managed to disfigure her once perfect and flawless face just about a year ago.
One more month and it was going to be exactly a year after her dad had brou-ght in that woman
A year after her stepmother had deliberately pushed her ma-king her land face first on the pieces of broken flower pots.

She could vividly recall how she had screamed when the rou-gh object pierced into the delicate flesh above her eyes.
She could vividly recall how her own blood had splashed onto her face.
Alexa sighs heavily, running her f!ngers over the scars again.

It was a miracle the broken pieces of pots hadn’t directly pierced her eyes seeing as the scars were located just a little above her eyebrows else she would have gone blind by now.

Only God knows how long she had to stay at home for her wounds to heal.
The wound was de-ep.
So de-ep it had to be stitched twice.
And now,all that was left of it were two ugly scars parading on her once perfect face.

The high pitched voice interrupts her thoughts and she snaps back to reality turning to face her two best friends..
“God girl! I’ve been calling you for minutes now. Don’t tell me you spaced out again”
Sophie queried adjusting her purple wig.
“We need to leave. The [email protected]’s began alre-ady”
Lydia chimes in Zi-pping the boots she wore.

Alexa sighs getting off the dressing chair and staring at her reflexion.
Cringing in disgust immediately.. She hated how she looked now.
She used to be perfect, pretty, slim and curvy in all the right places.
But now, due to her wounds she had locked herself up for weeks, months even and now she’s gained weight.
Such ugly weight she’s gained.

It made the little self esteem she had left fly out the window She rubs her belly.
The belly that used to be so flat was now bulging.
Fat sticking out in all the wrong places.
Her face looked bloated.
Her once pretty arms were now chubby looking and her th!ghs were starting to rub together when she walked.
All because during those times she had been suffering from depression, food, mostly junk foods had been her escape.
She spent all her time eating and eating just to while away time so she wouldn’t have to think of how people made fun of her facial scars anytime she stepped out.

Ugh! Scarface.
That’s what people called her with.
“Alexa come on!”
Sophie whines and she sighs again.
She picks up her scarf,wra-ps it over her head and pu-lls it down to cover her forehead where the scars were.
“Finally! Come on!”
Lydia drags her as they exit her room and descend the stairs silently and successfully ma-king it out the house. ****

This is not my thing It never was It never has and never will be.
I up-ll down the scarf over my face as I sit near Lydia and Sophie in the club.
I didn’t want to come but they f0rç£d me to.
I li-ck my dryl-ips, fidgeting with my red dress.
This dress used to look so good on me back then.
But now, it looks like I’m wearing a dress meant for a ten year old.
I sigh. The music in here is too loud, This place is too crowded and sweaty. I hate crowded places, It triggers my anxiety.
And I don’t have my antidepressant pills with me.
Oh God..
“ Hey girl,you okay?”

Lydia asks me and I nod.
“I’ll go get you something to drink yeah? To calm your nerves”
she tells me and I silently thank her.
She comes back later with two [email protected] of white liquid I presume is water since it’s colorless.
As for Sophie, she’s alre-ady on her second beer since we got here.
Here Alexa. Relax”
Lydia hands me the drink and I take it.
My hands are shaking, I realise.
Too many people are squishing themselves into the dance floor.

Oh God.
I li-ck myl-ips again.
I think I’m going to have a panic attack again.
Clutching the [email protected], I ti-p the contents into my mouth, gulping down everything at a go.

I grimace when I feel the liquid burn it’s way down my throat, ma-king bubbly s-en-sations in my belly.

I feel strange.
This liquid tastes strange.. I shake my head.
The s-en-sation doesn’t st©p.
“Ugh.. I.. I think I need fresh air”
I tell my friends and dash out without waiting for a response.

The cool evening breeze hits me as soon as I step out.
I begin to take in de-ep breaths, to steady my ra-pid heartbeat.

“Careful. You’ll hurt yourself” a sweet, cool yet de-ep voice says from behind me.

I ignore it and keep focusing on my breath exercise.

I hear the voice again and this time, I feel his pres£nce before me.
Lifting my head, I come face to face with the most handsome face ever.
His eyes.
I’m mesmerized.

“Can you hear me Lady.
Lady becareful!”

He screams this time and that’s when I hear a squishing sound.

I look at my hand and realise I’ve been clutching the [email protected] ti-ghtly all the while and I just crashed it with my palm.

I wince as I feel the shreds of [email protected] pierce into my palm.

“Here let me check it”

Mr cutie gr-abs my hand and begins to pu-ll out the broken pieces of [email protected] in my palm.
I don’t even feel the pain as all I’m interested in is his handsome face.
And how his biceps and muscles stretch with every of his movements.
“You’re so h0t”

I blurt out.

fv¢k! Did I just say that.

The drink Lydia gave me must contain alcohol.. Mr cutie st©ps dressing my wounds and stares up at me, surprise and wonder flashes in his his.

He chuckles, his eyes twi-nkling.

God! This man.

“Even your laughter is so h0t.”

I say again and he grins.

Okay, what’s wrong with me?

“Your eyes. They’re pretty”

I continue.

Oh Lord.

What happened to me today?

What gibberish am I spewing?

Mr cutie grins wi-der.

“And you have pretty eyes too. I love them”

he says and I frown.

“I’m not pretty. I’m always mocked anytime I step out. See”

I lift my scarf to show him my ugly scars.

Okay, why am I telling my secrets to a stranger? I stare at my right hand.

And why do I suddenly have ten f!ngers?

“These scars prove nothing. They just repres£nt the past. You’re pretty, believe me. Your eyes, they’re so blue. Are you a half cast?”

He asks with wonder and I grin sheepishly.

“Yes. My mother. She was from Chile. She was white and my dad is a Ghanaian. I inherited her blue eyes”

“They suit you”

Mr cutie, since I do not know his name c*resses my cheeks and I shudder.

I instantly begin to feel h0t.

My insides are burning.

I feel dizzy.

“What’s your name?”

he tells me.

Oh dear Lord, what’s happening to me? His voice.

It’s alluring I lean closer to William.

She stood in the dark, watching as the medicine took it’s effect on her.
She smiles pu-lling out her phone when she feels it [email protected] against her bu-m shorts..

she speaks into the phone twirling her hair as she watches them.
You got the girl?”

“Yep. I’m watching her.”

She pauses, frowning

“But there’s this guy with her”

‘Well separate them then.

. I need her today. Tonight.”

“Uh OK. I’ll try. She’s drun!kanyways”

“I do not care Lydia. Whether she’s drun!kor not. Get her away from that guy and bring her to me. Failure to do so,and you won’t be able to t©uçh a single cent of that money, got it?”

“Sure. But wait… How do you know her father is going to make her the sole heir of the Wallace properties?”
Lydia asks

“Go do your work and st©p prying your nose into matters that do not concern you. Curiosity kills the cat”the voice thun-ders.
“Okay fine. I’ll bring you Alexa but keep my money re-ady” she replies and hangs up.

Blue eyes.
That’s all I can think of as this lady who’s name I’m yet to know leans closer to me.
She bites herl-ips and I almost gro-an .
Hasn’t anyone told her not to bite thel-ips in such a manner in front of a guy?
I stare at her.
She doesn’t look like someone who regulars at a club.
She looks too innocent for that.
“You never told me your name”
she says and stumbles ma-king me wra-p my arms around her w@!st to steady her.
‘Mm. Alexandra”
I whisper, tasting the name on myl-ips.
“My name sound sweet when you say it Mr cutie”
she grins and I chuckle.
Yep, she’s definitely drun!k.
“Come let’s clean your wound yea?”
I pu-ll away.
She smears her bloodied palm over her ba-re th!ghs and I wince.
“Come on”
I lead her a few metres away from the club and st©p when I come across an empty quiet, dark sp©t.
“Here, sit”
I gesture to the large rock.
She obeys quietly
. I bite myl-ip.
I need to get back to my brothers before they begin to think I’ve gone missing.
I sigh.
“Sit here and don’t move. I’ll try to see if I can find a pharmacy nearby. Stay put okay?”
I say and she nods gingerly.
“Come back soon plea-se”
she pu-lls her knees to her che-st and hvgs herself.
She’s fragile.
Too fragile.
“I’ll be back soon”
I reply and sprint away.

One minute. Two minutes. Three minutes. Oh dear, why is he taking so long? Relax Alexa.
It’s been just a few minutes since he left.
I try to convince myself but I can’t seem to relax.
For some strange reason, I seem to be scared of the dark.. I feel like I’m being watched.
I feel uneasy, dizzy and drun!k.
I place my head on my kness and shut my eyes, rocking myself back and forth.
plea-se return soon Will.
plea-se. I pray gingerly.
I hear footsteps and my eyes shoot open.
“Oh thank God you’re back William. I was greeting scared and…”
My words get stuck in my throat when I realise the silhouette of the person standing before me was much taller, bigger and bulkier than William.
And it was not just one.
There were two of them.
I gulp, taking a step backward.
“Ugh hi. May I help you?”
I ask meekily.
They don’t respond.
They just keep their stance watching me with unblinking eyes.
I gulp again, feeling my anxiety rise again.
Surprisingly Will had managed to calm me down earlier but now?..
‘Umm.. Are you lost?”
I try again reaching into my purse for my phone.. Dang it! I left my purse in the club.
“Ugh… Seems like you don’t need my help s…so I’ll just ummm leave”
I turn quic-kly to leave when strong arms gr-ab me, nails digging into my skin.
I wince.
“Not so fast Alexandra Wallace”
I shudder in fear.
How did he know my name? What do they want?
“What do..y..you want? I.. I don’t have money. Let me go plea-se”

“Oh as for money we’re gonna get a lot if we bring you”
the one who wasn’t gr-abbing me sm-irks.
His voice s£nds disgusting shivers down my spine.
“W…what do you want?”
I ask feeling my panic rising.
“Oh you’ll see. In due time”
the other says and begins to drag me.
Without thinking, my instincts set in and I sink my teeth into his arm b!tt!g as [email protected] as I can till I taste blood in my mouth.

He hisses letting go off me abruptly.
Taking it as my cue, I turn and I run. But I don’t get far.
I don’t get far when I feel someone yank me from behind ma-king me t©pple forward.
The bulkiest amongst the two gr-abs my n£¢k.
I choke.
Colour drains from my face as I begin to [email protected].
“Look here lady, we’re not here to [email protected]. We love to do a quiet and clean job, get our money and disappear. We hate when our victims try to make our work difficult just like you’re doing right now. Do not make me hurt you lady!”
He growls at me digging his nails into my th!gh.
[email protected] for breath and with his hand still choking me, I yank my th!gh away causing the hem of my dress to tear.
He let’s go off my n£¢k and I break into a coughing fit, tears blinding my vision. He turns to his [email protected] and begin to whisper something in a different language.
Seeing their distraction, I turn to run and yet again I couldn’t get far.
They were too hvge for me.
Too strong.
I feel myself being pushed forward and like a flash,
I get the s-en-se of a déjà vu as I t©pple forward.
A loud scream escapes me as I fall, hitting my head on the rock I was seated on earlier. I hear the rip sound as the scar on my left eyebrow rips open, save from it’s stitches ma-king blood gush out..I I scream.
Pain shooting accross my entire system.
It bloody hurts.
“You fool!!”
Both men gr-ab me and yank me up harshly, blood from my scar spilling down my face.
As they drag me, I don’t fight anymore.
I can’t.
I’m weak.

li-ck my steps I cross the road to the other side and make my way towards the sp©t where I left Alexandra.
I feel strange.
I don’t know why but I want to get to her so badly.
Clutching the polythene bag which contained the necessities I need, I rush even more.
I’m almost there.
Almost there.
ban-g! I hear the high pitched scream and my eyes wi-den, my pulse accelerating.
It couldn’t be her right? The scream booms across the silent atmosphere and that’s when my legs begin to move on their own accord. Running with my heart on my sleeves, like I’ve never done before.
When I get to the sp©t, I don’t find her seated where I left her.
Instead, the street lights illuminates the tiny sp©t and my breath hitches.
Sprayed all over the rock.
I drop the bags and begin to walk frantically searching for her.
And that when I sp©t them. Two men who looked like they’d been lifting weights all their lives, dragging a bleeding Alexa.
“Hey you!!! Why don’t you pick on someone someone your own size?!!”
I growl rushing towards them, adrenaline pumping throu-gh my veins.
They stare at me for a second and then they drop Alexa before scurrying off.
Honestly, I didn’t expect them to run off without a fight.
They could have easily beaten me to a pulp but they just run.
I shake my head, tuning off thoughts of them and rush to Alexa.
Oh my God.
She’s bleeding.. fv¢k! I dropped the items I bought from the pharmacy how do I clean her wounds now.
“Alexa, can you hear me? I’m sorry I took too long to come. I’m sorry Alexa. Alexa? Can you hear me?”
I gather her in my arms,pu-lling out my handkerchief to dab her wounds.
“Will… P..pill…. P…panic attack”
she stutters and it takes a while for her words to register. Pill? Panic attack?
“Alexa? Where are your pills? Tell me and I’ll get them for you. Where did you leave your pills plea-se tell me”
I ask desperately but she doesn’t answer.
She’s beginning to hyperventilate.
Fear grips me.
“Alexa breath. You have to breath. Take in long de-ep breaths..
. Alexa come on! Breath!!”
All my efforts are in vain.
Oh Lord.
She needs to breath.
What to do? Glancing at her dress, I gr-ab the bust and rip it [email protected] to give her more space to breath.
I pu-ll off my jacket to fan her and that’s when I feel a strong b!ow hit me.
I gro-an .. fv¢k!
“You bastard!! I’m going to kill you!!”
A de-ep voice thun-ders behind me and I turn.
There’s an angry looking man with a woman and two men behind him.
“Sir I was only trying to..”
My words get caught in my throat when another b!ow comes my way.
I stumble back in shock.
“This is a misun-derstanding sir. I was only….”
Another b!ow lands on my face and I [email protected] out blood.
The man pushes me aside and rushes to Alexa.
“Oh Alexa. My daughter. Look what he did to you…”
I hear my father’s soothing voice.
What I don’t un-derstand is how he got to know I was here? Who gave him that information?
“Linux, get her into the car, have her take her pills and make sure she gets medical treatment. You,Mark stay here”
I hear father instruct his two b©dyguards and soon, I feel myself been lifted off the ground.
What’s going on? Who told my father I was here? With great difficulty, I open my eye and that’s when I see her.
Alice. My stepmother standing behind father.
The witch! I’m sure she planned everything and then brou-ght my father here.
Conniving bit-ch!
“And you young man, you tried to r*pe my daughter!”
“No Sir…I..”
“Shut up! You think I didn’t see how her clothes are torn? The blood on her th!ghs and face? I swear you messed with the wrong girl this time. I’ll make sure you rot in jail!”
My father spits.
I want to tell him.
To tell my father William is innocent.
He’s just a good summaritan.
I want to tell my father those who hurt me have escaped but I can’t.
My throat feels dry.
My eyes feel heavy.
My breaths are coming in short spams.
“Mark, take him to the police station. Make sure he doesn’t get bail. I swear you’re going to rot in jail for tou-ching my daughter. Mark gr-abbeys him!”
My father growls.
And that’s the last thing I hear before darkness engulfs me.
