LA city hospital… 8:20am..

“M-mom…”

Mrs Ben heard Claudia’s voice gro-ning quietly in her sleep, she opened her eyes.. and rubbed off her eyes.

“Mom..”

She heard the voice again, she turned her gaze towards Claudia’s bed… expecting to see Claudia laying lifeless on the bed.

But to her greatest shock, her eyes w¡dened when she saw Claudia trying to reach for water.

“Claudia?!” Mrs Ben called.. as if she’s not sure what she’s seeing right now.

“You’re awake?!”

Claudia nodded slowly, a gro-n left her mouth as she tried to sit up.

Mrs Ben quickly reached out and helped her up, she pulled the pillow up and rest Claudia’s back on the pillow.

“Mom..w-what happened?” Claudia asked.

“You were shot by your LOVELY father!” Mrs Ben said, emphasizing on the word *lovely*

Claudia frowned as she recalled everything, she gasped loudly and almost jumped off the bed..but her mother pulled her back.

“Where are you going? You just woke up”

“Nicklaus.. Nicklaus, where is he? Is he ok? Did dad hurt him too?” Claudia asked.

Her skin look so pale, her l-ips have turned blue… she’s the perfect definition of a ghost.

“Claudia, you just woke up, you narrowly escaped death..you should be worrying about yourself”

Her mother laid her back on the bed, she car-ssed Claudia’s hair.

“But Nicklaus…”

“Nicklaus is fine, he’s not seriously wounded”

Claudia’s eyes grew wide, her heart started beating fast and she began to feel pains in her heart…her hands flung to her chest and she clung onto her heart.

“What’s wrong, Claudia? Are you feeling uncomfortable?” Mrs Ben asked…fear obviously in her voice.

“I’m fine, you said Nicklaus is wounded… where’s he now?” She asked.

“Are you sure you’re ok? Should I call for the doctor?”

Claudia glared at her mother, she’s getting frustrated with her.. coupled with the fact that her heart seems to be having serious pains.

“Where’s Nicklaus?” She growled out.

Then she started breathing heavily, she bite her lower lip and threw her head back on the pillow.

“Mom, it..it..it hurts..it hurts…”

“It hurts? Where hurts?”

“My heart…it hurts so much..it really hurts..” Claudia said.

She started tossing on the bed uncomfortably, her face squeezed.

Mrs Ben quickly hits a red button above Claudia’s bed… and a bell started ringing.

“W-water” Claudia stuttered quietly.

Mrs Ben quickly reached for the jug and poured some water in a glass and handed it to Claudia.

Claudia quickly take large gulps.

But the force in which she swallowed the water was too much…which only made the pains in her heart increased.

She stretched the almost empty glass back to her mother and clung onto her chest.

“What’s wrong?!” Mrs Ben asked.

“I.. can’t breathe.. I’m gonna die!”

“No, you’re not gonna die, it’s not gonna happen.. not when I know my God is alive!”

“Mom, save me, save me… It hurts.. it really hurts so much” Claudia cried.

Just then, the door flung opened and nurses rushed in.

“Ma’am, please step aside” one of the nurses said.

Mrs Ben looked around them and frown. “Where’s the doctor?” She asked.

“Doctor Max will be here soon, but you have to step aside let’s attend to her”

Mrs Ben shook her head, but before she could argue any further.. the doctor walked in.

She rushed towards the doctor and grabbed his coat.

“Doctor, please save my daughter.. she’s in serious pain

The doctor laughed lightly.

“Ma’am, you’re holding me back.. I can only save her if you let me go”

“Oh!” She released his coat. “Please go, go save her for me!” She said.

The doctor rushed towards Claudia, Mrs Ben stepped aside but she’s closely watching everything the doctor’s doing.

“Hand me the really extra injection!” The doctor said to one of his nurses.

The nurse quickly handed it to him, he turned towards Claudia.. he smiled at her gently.

“Hi, Claudia, I’m doctor Max.. but you can call me Max”

Though she’s in severe pains, but she stopped tossing and simply stared at doctor Max’s face.. her eyes followed the smooth outlines of his face.

He looked so young and handsome, Claudia is so enchanted by his looks that she didn’t even noticed when he’s injecting her.

“You.. you’re so handsome.. and young” Claudia stuttered.

Doctor Max chuckled softly and shook his head.

“Well you can say I’m handsome, but I’m not so young anymore”

“Huh?”

“I’m a thirty years old bachelor!”

“A thirty years old bachelor?” Claudia asked feeling perplexed.

She couldn’t seemed to believe a thirty years old would still be a bachelor.. even with such a handsome face.

“Why aren’t you married yet?” She asked.

“Em.. no girl wants to marry a doctor, you know, we are always busy”

While all these conversations are going on, doctor Max is busy injecting her with different injections.

“Are you still having pains in your heart?” He asked her.

Claudia frowned, she’s a bit confused at his question.. then she remembered she was actually crying a few minutes ago.

“I.. I think I’m fine now” she replied.

Doctor Max turned back to his nurses, he tells them something and they quickly jots it down.

“So.. did anything happened just?” He asked, directing the question to Claudia and Mrs Ben.

“What do you mean?” Mrs Ben asked as she doesn’t understand the question.

“I mean, why was she in so much pain? She wasn’t supposed to feel so much pain”

Mrs Ben walked towards Claudia’s bed, she stared at Claudia and held her hand.

“We were just talking about her friend, Nicklaus”

“Oh, is Nicklaus someone very important to her? Her husband.. perhaps?” Max asked.

He recalled she was brought in yesterday in a wedding dress.

“He’s not her husband.. but she is in love with him”

“No! I’m not in love with him!” Claudia said quickly.

Mrs Ben and doctor Max turned to her questioningly.. Mrs Ben frowned deeply in surprise.

“He’s just my friend” Claudia said.

She closed her eyes and mentally slapped her mouth.. wondering why she’s clarifying things between Nicklaus and her..in front of doctor Max.

Doctor Max sighed.

“Anyway, her heart might not need to be replaced.. if she can avoid being emotional for now and let the injury in her heart heal”

Mrs Ben smiled widely. “Really?!”

“Yes, the test results is out, it’s just a tiny h0le in her heart.. but if she stresses her heart with emotions.. she might expand the injury and that will be very dangerous for her.. she will have to need a transplant then” doctor Max explained.

Mrs Ben nod and smiled even w¡der than before, tears run down her cheeks.. she wiped them off.

“Are you ok, Mrs Ben?”

“Yes, yes, I’m just happy” Mrs Ben said.

Doctor Max turned back to Claudia, he smiled at her and she smiled back.

“Claudia, I have to go attend to another patient.. don’t stress yourself too much, ok?”

Claudia nodded speechlessly, looking at doctor Max’s face always make her lost herself.

“Ok.. I’m leaving now” doctor Max said and left.

Mrs Ben smiled at Claudia.

“Claudia, did you heard him? He said you don’t need to undergo surgery if you take care of your heart”

Claudia rolled her eyes.

“I heard him” she sighed. “Starting now, I don’t wanna talk or hear about Nicklaus… I will check on him when I’m out of the hospital”

“Huh?”

“I’m hungry” she said.

Mrs Ben nod. “Right, you haven’t eaten since yesterday” she got up. “I’ll be right back”

With that Mrs Ben rushed out, Claudia pulled the thin blanket up to her chest and closed her eyes.

Rhoda’s pov 👠

Raymond’s apartment…

I opened my eyes and released a yawn, I rubbed my eyes and take a look around.. I realized I’m on Raymond’s bed.

How did I get here?

Last I remembered, I was sleeping on the couch and Raymond was sleeping on this bed.

My eyes quickly scan the room, there’s no Raymond in sight.. just me.

Where could he have gone so early in the morning? He’s sick and can’t go to work…

I hopped off the bed and rushed to the living room, he’s not there.. but I heard him called my name.

“Rhoda!”

I turned and saw him standing by the dinning table, he’s holding a plate of cake in his hand.. I rushed towards him.

“What are you doing?” I asked him in a scolding manner.

“Well, I figured you’d be hungry when you wake up.. so, I decided to make breakfast” he said.

I sighed. He’s right, I normally get hungry when I wake up in the mornings.

“Sit let’s eat” he said.

He dropped the cake and pulled out a chair for me, I sat down and he put the small cake in front of me.

“I know you love eating cakes after breakfast.. so I made a very small cake for you” he said and also sat down.

I smiled as I stared at the cake.

“How did you manage to remember all these little things?” I asked.

“I never forgot” was his reply.

“Wow! That’s nice then” I said.

I look around the table.

I reached for two slice of bread, I rubbed some butter on them and took a bite.. my eyes closed involuntarily and I nod in satisfaction.

“Yummy!” I said.

“Then eat more”

We continue eating in silence, until I’m almost full.. then I remembered Raymond’s fever.

“How are you feeling now?” I asked him.

“I’m good, my fever is gone” he replied.

Reaching for a glass of water, I took a few gulps.. I picked the cake and started eating.

“This cake is very delicious.. just how I like it” I said.

Raymond smiled and continue eating his food. Halfway through my cake, I bite a metal object and I quickly spit it out.

“What’s this?” I asked.

I picked it up and realized it’s a…

“Ring?!” I exclaimed.

I raised my head to look at Raymond, but I’m surprised to find him kneeling in front of me.

“Really? A ring in,side a cake?”

He nodded. I rolled my eyes, this is so outdated.. but I love it.

“Will you accept my ring?” He asked me.

I wanted to speak but no words came out from my mouth, I gaped at him.

“Wait.. why are you suddenly proposing?” I asked him back.

“I don’t want to waste any more time, last time there was a huge misunderstanding because of my hesitation… I don’t wanna hesitate no more!”

He collected the ring from me, he stretched it towards me.

“Please accept my ring, I swear, I’ll try to be the best man for you this time… I’d be a good father to our son and give him all the best things life can offer”

Right now my heart is bumbling, I’m so damn happy that Raymond is asking me to marry him, but…

“Raymond, let’s not rush”

“Let’s not rush? Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this moment?”

I scoffed mentally, as if that wasn’t his fault for not explaining things.

“I don’t wanna wait anymore, be wife.. let’s start a new life together.. please”

“But Bill doesn’t even know you’re his father, he… ”

“Don’t worry about Bill, I can take my time to win his heart”

“Then what about my brother and my mom? They don’t like you”

He smiled, he reached for my hand and k-ssed my knuckles.

“I can make them like me, I’ll show them that I’m not a bad person… all I need right now is your approval” he said.

The moment I have been secretly waiting for all my life is happening.. I can’t believe it’s happening!

“Rhoda, please be my wife”

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” I breathe out happily.

He quickly slides the ring in my finger, he got up and leaned closer to me.. then crashed his l-ips on mine.

I can’t believe this is actually happening… I’m engaged!

Anastasia’s pov 👠

Aunt Bell’s apartment…

“Thank you for the food, aunt” I thanked aunt with a smile.

I reached for a tissue and wiped my mouth.. Klaus poured a glass of water and handed it to me.

“Here, baby, drink some water” he said.

I collected and took a few sips, then handed it back to him.

He frowned at the very little water I was able to drink.. he wanted to speak again but his phone’s ringtone cuts him off.

He checked the caller, then gro-ned.

“Sorry, I should receive this call” he said and got up, he walked outside.

Aunt turned to me after dumping a big fish on Denzel’s plate, I almost laugh at Denzel as he made some funny face.

Aunt knows he hates fish but she still forces him to eat it everytime.

“Aunt, I don’t want fish.. give me some meat” he said.

He reached for the meat but aunt slapped his hands away, I laughed at him… Klaus and I are done eating.

“So… Anna, you’re pregnant now…”

Oh God! I hope it’s not a sermon, I can’t survive it.. I grumbled mentally.

“.. you should be very careful now. You’re no longer a kid, you’ve just begin your first step of being a mother…”

My first step of being a mother? How many steps are there to be a mother?!

“.. you should make your child your top priority now. Don’t act on impulse, always tell Klaus about every of your movements”

I nod at every word she spoke, just then Klaus walked back in looking very worried.

Though he’s trying really hærd to stay calm, but he’s my man, I understand every of his body language.

“Sorry, aunt but we have to leave now.. something came up at the office and it needs my urgent attention” he said.

Aunt smiled and nod.

“Ok, drive safely and carefully.. remember you’re driving with a pregnant woman sitting next to you”

Klaus nod, he signaled me to get up. I got up and walked towards him, his arm goes around my wa-ist.

“Aunt, we’re leaving” aunt nod. “Denzel, don’t give aunt too much trouble.. ok?”

“I don’t give her trouble” he replied and I gave him a thumbs up.

“Alright, kids.. drive safely” aunt said.

Klaus and I stepped out, Graham greeted us with a bow when he saw us.. he quickly opened the door and we slides in.

Without wasting time, he started the car and sent it ingo the road.

Klaus didn’t speak to me after we got into the car, he started typing on his phone furiously.. a very deep frown on his forehead.

“Klaus?” I called him.

“Hmm” he hummed not looking away from his phone.

“You looked trouble when you came in.. what happened?” I asked him.

He stopped typing and turned to me, he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

“Marcus called me, he said the police sealed my company and they are interrogating my workers”

I frown.

“Why would the police seal your company?”

“A dead body was found right in front of the building…”

I interrupted him with a gasp, my hands covering my mouth.

“How come there’s a dead body there?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know”

Is this a set up or what? How can there be a dead body in front of Klaus’ company?

“So are we heading there now?” I asked.

He wanted to answer but stopped himself, his eyes moved to my stomach and he shook his head.

“You said you wanted to see your dad.. right?”

“My dad?”

I was confused for a moment.

“Dr ghost” he replied.

I nod quickly.

“I’ll drop you off at his place first, before going to the company”

“I’m not coming with you to your company?”

“No, it’s not good for you to be there!” He said in a firm voice.. giving no room for arguments.

As if he could read my mind.. I was actually thinking of insisting on going with him.

“You don’t have to trouble yourself with matters related to the company.. just focus on you and our baby”

“Oh!” I pout sulkily.
