TITLE: SISTERHOOD

When Esther got back to the hostel, she met only Zainab in the room. They talked and Zainab asked her what happened. She wasn’t interested in that conversation. She asked her instead, “What is squirt?”
“Who squirted?”
“I did. With Efe. It happened four times. I am so embarrassed.”
“He made you squirt? Does that mean you never squirted with Jake? I have heard about it. My cousins talk about sex freely and I find it amazing. Some of them enjoy it while some don’t. One of my cousins told us she decided to marry her husband because he made her squirt. She said sex with him is amazing. I couldn’t look the guy in the eyes after hearing that.”
“It means a guy that can make a girl squirt knows how to perform. I can’t count how many times I came yesterday. He is very good.”
“Better than Jake?”
“By far.”
“So, is Jake out of the picture now? Because he was here last night looking for you.”
“He is. I like Efe, he is good to me.”
“Or the sex is better.”
“All of them. He is nice. It is messing up the place that is my problem. I don’t know how long he will endure it.”
“Did he complain? Men enjoy it. They like it. Why not ask him? Although I think it is too soon to jump into bed with another guy after Jake. You should have healed first.”
“I don’t regret it. I am not going back to Jake.”
Esther sent a message to Efe thanking him for making her stay with him pleasurable. She talked about the mess she created with wetting everywhere. She would see him as soon as he had the time.
Efe liked the message. She was shy which was understandable. She was a young girl who moved around in an adult’s body. He wanted to see her again but he stopped himself. He didn’t want to scare her off. He responded casually.

Jake came to the hostel on Sunday. There was a fire incident at his restaurant on Friday. It was minor but it required him to close the building. He was upset about it. Even though it was seen to be an electrical fault from one of the air conditioners, he was still not convinced it was ordinary. He called Baba.
“Where is the girl? She has given your good fortune to someone else.”
“Baba, what are you saying? In how many days she has given herself to someone else? She is not that type of girl.”
“I have told you, once she shares it with another person, he will get more. She has shared it and the incident is to register their presence. When was the last time you gave her money? You are not making her happy, the other guy must have made her very happy for this to happen.”
On Saturday, Jake bribed the porter and came into Esther’s room. She was on her bed asleep when he entered. Nkem and Zainab were awake and still in their night clothes. He dragged Esther off the bed. She was startled. She screamed, “What is it?”
“Come with me.”
“For what, I am not going anywhere.”
“You are coming with me otherwise I am not leaving here.”
“Then we will call security for you,” Nkem answered as she made to leave the room.
“Relax. I am sorry Esther. I messed up. Why are you doing this to me? I have been begging you. I have called you over how many times. I messed up and I want to make amends. Please follow me home so we and talk about the issue. I admit, I fucked up but please don’t ruin my life because of that.”
“Jake, I don’t want to talk to you or discuss anything with you. Kindly leave here before they call security for you.”
“Esther because you are fucking someone else you have decided to ignore me. Do you know what has happened to me? I will kill the guy and kill myself if you don’t follow me. I swear to God, I will kill both of us.”
“Go ahead. I don’t care. I am not interested in the relationship anymore.”
“His blood will be on your hands. Let me find him first.”
Jake left the room. He stormed out of the room. What happened there was strange and they all looked at Esther. Something was going on and only Zainab was aware of it. They had to ask Esther and she confessed.
Nkem asked, “How did Jake know about it?”
“I don’t know who must have told him.”
“Who did you tell?”
“Only Zainab. She was the only one around when I came back.”
“How old are you and you have had two sexual partners. Why are you in such a hurry or is the place scratching you? That was why they were circumcising women in the past. High libido has its downside.”
Funke added, “Nkem asked a very good question, how did he know you were with someone else? He was specific and sure. Hmm. I hope he doesn’t have anyone following you around.”
“This happened on Thursday. I came back yesterday morning. See, I don’t care. I will be with whoever I desire. Jake can do his worse.”
“You need to warn Efe. He might go after him.”
“I will talk to him.”

Jake didn’t leave. His suspicion was confirmed when she didn’t deny it. He knew Esther was stubborn but he thought he had tamed her. She was crazy. She sounded like she didn’t care. It hurt him. He regretted his actions that day, he should have gone after her and apologized but he felt he had subdued her. Now it had come back to haunt him.
He had to wait to follow. He must know the guy she is sleeping with. For her to stare him in the face and respond, the guy must have rocked her world. He was angry with himself. He should have managed it better. Now his business was failing. The restaurant has to be closed for a week. No income. He was scared another problem will arise. It did. The brand new generator he just installed had refused to work. What could have happened? He suspected sabotage. He quickly put a call through to baba.
“Where is the girl?”
“She refused to follow me. She is proving stubborn. Can you give me something to use on her so she will obey me?”
“She has to give you willingly for it to be plenty. The more you fight with her the more you lose. If she sleeps with another man you will lose more money. She will take from you to give to him.”
“Ah! She is very stubborn o. How do I beg her now?”
“Know what you will do. Once she agrees, all the money you lost will come back double.”
Jake refused to go anywhere that morning. Fighting her new lover will cause more harm than good. He decided to humble himself and shamelessly beg her. He waited for her outside.
Three of them came out from the hostel walking toward class when Jake joined them. Esther wanted to walk away but Jake knelt in front of her. They were shocked he would do this. He must genuinely love Esther.

“I am sorry. I accept I messed up, I must have been high that day. I haven’t touched drink or weed since you left. You are my everything, so why would I cheat on you? It was a moment of weakness. I am sorry. Forgive me. Take me as the sinner I am and make me a better person. Please. What punishment do you want to give me? Punish me but don’t punish me by giving my food to another person. I did it and I realise how painful it is. If you do it to me, I will die. Please my heart, forgive me. I swear it will never happen again. You are my woman, my wife, my life.”
It sounded so romantic. Esther helped him stand up and she hugged him. His speech was touchy and for him to do it in the open was convincing. He wanted her to go home with him immediately but she asked him to come in the evening to pick her up. She had some things to do.
Esther wasn’t happy. She had been communicating with Efe since that day and had agreed to spend the weekend with him. Now that Jake was back in the picture, she didn’t know how best to break the news to Efe. She left her friends and went to Efe’s house.
She was early. He had just woken up from sleep when she came. He held her in his arms and kissed her. He was excited she was there. She could feel their chemistry. She decided to have the last sex with him and break it off. She stripped before him. He watched her take off all her clothes. Efe didn’t need to be invited, he led her into the room and they made love. The passion in which Esther performed shocked Efe. When she decided to be on top, he died and woke up. She was on another level.
He went to get breakfast for them to eat. After eating, Esther talked with Efe. “Jake was at my hostel early this morning. He came begging. He has asked for forgiveness and has promised never to allow it to happen again. I am considering it.”
Efe was hurt. They just had amazing sex and now she was dropping the bombshell. He knew she would go back to Jake but not this soon. He had already fallen for her. She had occupied his mind since that day. How would he cope without her? What was he to do? Beg her to consider him? She was used to a certain lifestyle; can he give it to her?
“You aren’t saying anything?” Esther asked.

“What do you want me to say? Why then did you make love with me when you know you are going back to Jake?”
“I don’t know. I like you and I want us to remain friends.”
“We’ve had sex so we can’t be just friends. If I see you, I will want to have sex with you and you would too. That will be cheating. I won’t subscribe to that.”
“But if we don’t see we can still talk on the phone …”
“Esther, I asked you if you were through with Jake and you said you were, how come it was so easy for him to woo you back? You have forgotten easily what he did to you. I know it is the money that is attracting you, not a problem. But why did you have sex with me knowing you were going back to Jake? Isn’t that deceit? You know what, Esther please be going.”
“Efe, it happened suddenly and I came to you immediately. I am sorry if I hurt you. I treasure our friendship and I want us to remain friends. Please. It is not the money but the sincerity in his plea. I have dated him for almost two years, he has repented, let me give him another chance.”
“Esther! Ok. You have spoilt my day today. I don’t know if you know what love means but then you won’t understand. You shouldn’t have had sex with me today knowing you were ending it. I think you should leave now.”
Esther didn’t expect this reaction from him but she understood she had hurt him. If Jake hadn’t apologized, she would have started a full-blown relationship with Efe. She liked him a lot. He spoke to her calmly and he was responsible. Before the sexual relationship, he had encouraged her to pay more attention to her academics. He said other things could wait. Now he had ended the friendship.
That evening she went with Jake. When he made love to her she thought about Efe. She realized she was comparing the two of them. Efe was more passionate and giving during s-ex than Jake. She didn’t make a sound until he was through. She was lost. She knew she would always go back to Efe for sexual satisfaction.
