Wrapping her palms around the doorknob she opened it and there stood her almighty mother, jamming her palms in a clap of mockery.

Joy was surprised to see her standing in her doorway so early in the morning,” she decided to play it cool hoping she didn’t hear it.

Goodmorning mom,” she greeted warmly

Oh good morning my beautiful daughter, how was your night,” her mom responded politely.

It was fine, what about yours,” she asked back maintaining a lame smile knowing that her mom had never been a joking type.

Oh, erhm, she scratched her hair trying to come up with one truthful lie, It was a classmate,” she replied coldly.

Oh, your classmate?” Her mom faked a smile
So What were you discussing with him,
Joy’s heart skipped at the mention of “him” Now am in trouble, what am I going to use as a defense,”
Erhm….we were talking about a subject,” she later found her voice but stammered.

Oh, great,” her mom faked another smile and cleared her throat,” so tell me, when did your school add “love studies” to their curriculum?” she asked directing her gaze toward her.
Joy who finally lost her voice looked down in shame.
Joy, look up to me and answer my question, when did your school add “love education” to their curriculum.

Joy, Joy, Joy, how many times did I call you?

Joy shyly raised her three fingers without looking at her mom.

Joy, you’ve changed drastically, so it’s now gotten to the point that you now lie to me without fear, all I am saying is just for your own good oh, it’s just for you to be a responsible person tomorrow
if you graduate tomorrow and get a nice job,
did you do me a favor? Is it not for your good?,
ok now, If you get unwanted pregnancy and have your study terminated, did you do me any bad?

They embraced and sobbed on each other’s shoulders, that day was a sad one for them.

It was just a wonderful Christmas season like this, I’d already arranged with my friends where to meet, after makeup, I carried my bag and was going out when my mom called me back, Mary nwa m(my daughter),” she called sitting up on the wooden bench in our living room.

Episode 6

⏮️ Flashback continues..

No mama, I can’t postpone it, it’s very important to me, “I threw the word at her and slammed the door ignoring her multiple calls.

I later met with my friends that day and we had fun, I presumed it to be

the happiest day of my life having no idea of what was to unfold next,

What happened, “Joy asked her mom and listened attentively;

Well, after we’d enjoyed ourselves to the fullest, we decided to go home,

and it’d already gotten dark

The place we went wasn’t close to our houses,

so we were to pass

through different locations some were extremely dangerous, we got

to a particular joint that looked extremely lonely and dangerous.

That was when it all happened,” she paused,

What happened, “Joy asked getting more scared;

Two huge masked beings jumped out of the bush and stood in the middle of

the road,

We turned back to run and discovered another pair of similar beings

standing there too, and was marching toward us, we had no other option than to run but being men; they were far better racers than us, it wasn’t long before I lost balance and crashed on the dusty ground, that was the only thing I could remember

What happened, did they catch you?” joy asked as she hear bits steadily;

Well, I didn’t understand what happened but when I opened my eyes, I found myself in a strange room being surrounded by strange people that looked nowhere but stared at me,

I wanted to s¢ræm but one of them(a woman) calmed me down,

It’s okay dear, we’re not going to hurt you, my husband found you in a pool of blood by the roadside and brought you here,” she elucidated calmly.

I lived with them as a house help for several days till one fateful day,

I fell ill, running to the toilet now and then, throwing up and urinating every minute, soon it got to the knowledge of the woman and she took me to a hospital for a check after which I was confirmed to be one week pregnant, it was like a fairytale to me, how could I have taken in without any physical affair with any man, I begged the woman to at least talk to the nurse to consult another test but she did not even listen to me.

I sobbed till we arrived At her place that day.

I’m sorry but I can’t leave under the same roof with a pregnant person,” that

was the exact word she said to me before sending me out of her house,

Ma’am, please don’t do this to me, I have nowhere to go,” I pleaded but it

all landed on deaf ears as she ordered the gateman to throw me out and

lock the gate, I sobbed at foot of their gate that day till all the liquids

in my gland dried up, my sight blurred and everywhere spun, soon my sorrows

were erased by sleep,
I was later roused by a very deep cold that was caused by the heavy mist rushing down like a thousand throngs of horses galloping into a battlefield, I curled on the ground as my teeth clapped and my whole body quaked in cold…
