Thelma stood in front of the restaurant waiting for Peter.

He had called her and told her to wait for them in front of the exclusive restaurant they had been earlier in the morning.

She glanced at her wrist watch for the seventh time ever since she stood there,she gave up waiting for them outside and thought of going in,side.

She’s aware of the cops eyes following her every move,as planned,they had gotten the police involved and they stood ready, waiting for Peter and his cohorts to show up then they will be apprehended.

Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be showing up, nonetheless, all hope is not lost. not yet.

Everything has to end this night, it’s almost dark already, people are going and coming out of the restaurant like it’s a market place.

‘How people love enjoyment’ Thelma mused smiling at how they streamed in and out of the exclusive… expensive restaurant that a table water costs more than….is it half her salary?

She won’t even glance at it if she wants to save money, if not, she will remain penniless.

She made to step into the restaurant when something strong, hot, solid…like a stone that has been under the sun… slipped slowly into her left arm, she cried out as she slumped to the ground.

The glass of a car parked behind her shattered and skidded all over the place, her eyes shut up, she could only hear people’s shriek and quick footsteps as they ran helter skelter into safety.

The police siren blew, gun shots followed, strong hands pulled her up before her mind blanked out.

“Is she still unconscious?!”David barked at doctor Fred .

“Hey calm down, she’s fine, she’s in safe hands…all she needs now is rest”Fred assured David.

“Can…can I see her?”he asked,and added”I need to be sure that she’s fine”when he gave him a side look.

Fred patted him on the shoulder”when I say she’s fine, believe me,she is…and remember I told you she needs rest,you can’t disturb my patient now, I will take you to see her when am certain it’s due”

“Fredrick?…are you….”

“Don’t you trust me again?”Fred cutted him off,his friend is nervous,he can see that, and he’s afraid the lady in his care is severely injured, he’s very sure of that, for him to call him with his full name and run his hand through his hair repeatedly.

“F…Fine,if you say so… I just wanted to be sure”David said and backed away from the hallway that led to the ward were Thelma was deposited.

He dumped his hands into his pockets,glad that the trouser he wore has deep pockets.

“Trust me,let’s go into my office”Fred nudged on his friend to follow him in,side his office.

David was in the police car and had witnessed Thelma’s sudden fall and what transpired between the police and two men whom escaped and as it is, they couldn’t be traced.

He had insisted that Diana went home and waited for him.

She had called earlier to confirm if they are alright,she said she got a glimpse of what happened on the news.

He had told her to stay home,he sent two police men to go keep her safe for she said Peter is nowhere around the house which signifies how true it is that he’s the one behind everything that’s happening to him.

That still surprise’s him.

He went into Dr Fred’s office with him and waited for him to explain his Assistants condition.

“I said it!…my instincts were right, I thought of what could possibly take Peter into that expensive restaurant in a car, because I was certain it was him that I saw!”Tricia exclaimed in fury.

She and her mother had come over after watching the news about the day’s happenings steering on Daily News.

Diana had confirmed the bombshell to be true, they had actually imagined it to be a some kind of movie that David featured in.

The news aired everything as it happened, a CCTV camera was said to be mounted outside the restaurant which caught everything just the way it is.

Maggie hadn’t uttered a word ever since she arrived in her son’s house, she’s still shocked to core.she keeps staring into space and wished her son will drive in at that moment,that’s when her vocal cords will be able to voice out anything again.

“I.. I still can’t believe my eyes,what am wondering is how… I mean..how did everything turn out like this?,how did they know the plan to avert it…to twist it like…God!..what could I have done if they had shot David?!!”Diana felt a tingling chill run through her system.

She will die of course!…her heart pounded so much that her ears hurted.She’s surprised Tricia and Maggie isn’t hearing her heartbeat.

She placed her hand on her chest and shivered all over.

“God forbid!.. nothing like that will ever happen to my brother”Trish snapped her fingers.

“Amen!”Diana couldn’t help accepting.

Tricia went close to her mother and stood beside her,she took her hand and gave her a reassuring squeeze.

“Mom, David is fine, don’t let this eat you up”She said using her thumb to clean the tears that wetted her cheeks uncontrollably.

“Let it be”Maggie whispered not recognizing her own voice, she’s not sure if anyone else in the room heard her,she couldn’t figure her own words out.

“Mother..no, David is fine,we have spoken to him,you heard his voice and you know he’s fine,he promised to come home soon, don’t let this wh0le mess get a better part of you”Diana said taking her hand in hers.

She and Tricia pulled her to a chair.

“What have I done to deserve this?,what has my son done?,why us?!”Maggie sobbed pouring her heart out .

“Mother you are going to make me cry!”Tricia said placing her head on her mother’s laps.

It hurts her to see her mother like this, ever since the day David’s files where stolen, her mother has lost her cheerful self, her smily face, her jovial self and had been always lost deep in her thoughts.

It’s been from one unfortunate event to another.
Tricia hates it,now she wishes this holiday never came in the first place.

“Mom,cheer up”Diana said confused on how to handle such a situation,she hugged Maggie and patted Tricia on her back.

She wished David would come in right at this moment, he’s best at handling such a situation, at least Maggie will lighten up at the sight of him.

David came out of Fred’s office and almost collided with his best friend,Harry.

“Oh man!.. I saw the news,gosh!”Harry mumbled shaking his hand and slapping him on the shoulder friendly.

“It’s just as you saw it,man am really in a state of dilemma,I don’t know what to do,say or even think!”David responded quickly throwing his hands up in confusion.

“It’s okay man!, everything will fall back in order”

“When?!…when?!…Harry,when?!”David questioned derisively.

“David,what makes a man is when he faces trying times and conquers it, isn’t your father who always says that?”

“Thanks for reminding me!”he shot him a dry look and made for the door.
Harry followed him, anyways.

*Fifty five minutes later*

David came into his house,Harry right behind him.
Diana sprang up and ran into his arms,he k-ssed her lightly on the l-ips and averted his eyes to look at his mother and sister.

“Well…they have been very worried about you, and here they are!… asleep”Diana stated flatly.

“Wow…it’s terrific”he managed.

“Seems no one noticed me”Harry hummed practically from behind David.

Diana turned to look apologetically at him”oh my…am so sorry, I was so caught up… you know…this…”she shrugged giving him a peck on the cheek.

“It’s alright, I understand”Harry said smiling, though it makes no sense smiling at the moment but Maggie and her daughter’s position on the couch is enough to make someone like himself grin.

“Alright…”she rushed to where Tricia lay and tapped her repeatedly”wake up,Trish!”
She made to go to Maggie’s side but her eyes fluttered open.

Maggie’s eyes w¡dened at the sight of her son “oh God!.. David are you okay?”she bursted into tears.

“Don’t do that mom,am fine,it’s gonna be alright”David said as he sat beside her and hugged her tight.

“Thank God you are fine”Tricia said when sleep left her eyes.

“Yeah.. come on and give me a big brother hug,I have missed that”David said forcing a smile to dance on his l-ips.
Tricia hugged him,Harry and Diana watched sadly.

“I will go set the table, at least we have to eat”Diana announced heading for the kitchen.

“You cooked?!..when?”Tricia couldn’t hold back her surprise.

“When you are in your dreamland,I made something quick”Diana answered disappearing into the kitchen.

“Wow, I will help you set the table then!”Tricia said and joined her in the kitchen.

“Seems you don’t like seating down anymore”Maggie mused to Harry .

“Oh!”he sat down.

“Mom,you have the energy to tell him to sit,he should stand there for all I care!”David snorted.

“Mother f-ck….”Harry caught himself and zipped his mouth when Maggie sent him a killing look”sorry mom”he apologized instead.

“Acceptable”Maggie allowed a smile cross her l-ips for the first time after she had watched the shocking news.

“Dinner time!”Tricia announced pleasantly.
Everyone is gradually cheering up,they need to eat after all.

They ate in silent, maintaining light discussion until everyone did justice to their food.

When they are done eating, David freshened up and said goodnight to the three important women in his life, Harry had left immediately after dinner.

Diana wanted to join Maggie and Tricia in the guest room which she had used for the few days she spent alone before sharing David’s bed ,so as to give him time to get rested enough not to pry in his privacy but that’s not David’s version of reasoning, he invited her to share his room avoiding the prying eyes of his mother and sister.

She bade them goodnight and joined him.

“Love,I can’t believe they are back together”Tricia mumbled to her mother as they went into their own room.

“Love can be tricky, don’t you think so?, you should go get yourself a man that will love and cherish you just like your brother to Diana”Maggie said rolling her eyes.

“That’s exactly what I will do tomorrow,it’s quite late tonight!”Tricia snorted laughing silently.

“Harry will be a good catch!”

“Mom!..for Pete’s sake, I need some rest,you never cease to amaze me”

“Like American wonder?!”Maggie laughed huskily.

“Certainly,wonders shall never cease!”Tricia didn’t find it funny on her own part,she lay on the bed and covered every inch of body with the bed sheet.

“I have got to use a sheet you know!”Maggie retorted.
They dragged over the sheets playfully and it did a great job on their mood.They fell asleep delighted.

David and Diana lay down facing each other, Diana’s fingers car-ssed his cheek.
“You are okay?”

“Yes, why?”

“Just wanna know”

“Worried about me?”

“I should be,you are my husband after all”

David grinned”and you are my wife,I won’t appreciate you getting worried over me, your husband is a strong man,you should know that”

“I know,so…is there anything you would want me to do?”she asked in a whisper.

“Mmm….Yeah”

“What could that be?”

“k-ss me”he touched his l-ips slightly.

Diana smiled and planted a k-ss on his l-ips.

“Done”

“That’s not a k-ss”

“Huh?.. you are joking right?”

A laugh escaped his l-ips,he lifted her head and lowered it to rest on his chest.

“Goodnight baby”he whispered softly to her ear and closed his eyes.

Diana knew he’s tired,she didn’t disturb him,she kept her head still and drifted slowly into a peaceful sleep.

Diana woke up early,she was awakened by her phone,she hissed when she saw the caller’s ID, what excuse would she give to her mother now?.

She took the phone and walked quietly downstairs, careful not to wake anyone.David especially.

She went into the bathroom to take the call,her eyes fixed on the big mirror situated opposite the door,she thought carefully of what she would say to her mother that made her not to keep to her promise yesterday.

She took the call and darted her eyes when her mom didn’t say anything, she’s probably waiting for her to speak first.

“Good morning Mom!”she greeted lowly, sliding her eyes off the mirror as she chuckled softly on what’s coming next.

“Am listening”Her mother coaxed.

“Mom!… you haven’t replied my greeting”she said with a tiny voice like a child’s.

“You think I called you so you would greet me, I should have known better than to believe you”Jasmine whined.

“Am sorry mom, something came up…”

“Something came up?…and you didn’t call to inform me so I wouldn’t get my hopes up, what’s your problem, Diana”

Diana noticed that her mother is angry with the way her voice sounded,she looked at her face in the mirror again and saw how sad her eyes are.

“Mom… I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you”

“Am not hurt,I didn’t say that, am just sick of watching my daughter drift so far away from me, you wouldn’t say I have ever been against any of your wishes,

and though you and your father are not in good terms,he misses you, I miss you…we miss you.. you’re our child after all, which parent wouldn’t miss their child, it’s not fair…

I can’t even boast that I know a thing about you!”Jasmine said angrily,then added lowly”I know you are fine,so…be good for me, don’t hesitate to contact me if you got trapped in a problem though I trust you wouldn’t”

“Mom I…. hello?…Mom?!”Diana looked at the phone to see that her mother had cut the line.

She stared at the phone confused on what to do.She decided to call her back.

Her attention flew to her phone that she didn’t notice David enter.

He stood with his back against the door and watched her beautiful form.

When her gaze returned to the mirror,she was startled as she turned to look at him.

“I didn’t hear you come in!”she exclaimed with an eye roll.

“Don’t worry, I wasn’t eavesdropping”he said liking the way her tongue darted out to w-t her dry l-ips.

“I didn’t say anything about you listening to……”

“Okay… okay”he threw his hands up as a sly smile played on his l-ips”I take that back,now can my beautiful wife say a blessed morning to me?!”

“Huh?…that’s not a big deal honey, beautiful morning love”she laughed silently and threw her arms around his neck.

“That’s more like it,how’s your night baby?”

“Thanks to God,it was marvelous,and yours?”

He planted light k-sses all over her face”it’s ….as…. gorgeous…as … you”

“Oh my…stop flattering me”she threw her head backwards giving him enough space to k-ss her neck repeatedly.

“You are sweeter than honey, I want to drink on you,baby”he whispered as he thr-sted his tongue to the hollow of her br-asts,his hands where all over her, touching every bit of her soft body.

She whimpered when his hand moved to press her ass while his mouth returned to her face to claim hers.

“I missed you”
She couldn’t stop the words before they escaped her l-ips.

Was it not a day?,no it wasn’t up to a day that he found out about the planned marriage and she had spent the night at their family house,it was just for a night,few hours.

But it’s like fifty years spent apart from him,how about if she travels home and spends up to a week away from him or if she returns to school?. She’s sure she will die of aching for him.
Is this really how love works?

If it is,then it’s not good for her system,she can’t seem to find the acceleration pedal to her own heart so she would slow it down,her feelings for this man is getting out of hand.

It’s a crazy good feeling.
She buried her fingers in his hair and allowed him take control.

“Diana?”

They didn’t hear that call until the bathroom door swung open,their eyes flew to the door to see Tricia standing on the door way,her hand on the door knob as she looked at them in amazement.

They were still locked in each other’s arms,only their faces are on her.

They slowly separated themselves,while Tricia is still standing in a transfixed form.

“Oh..wow… I.. sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt…..”her voice trailed off as her hand slid off the knob.

“Well… I need to brush my teeth”David said like he’s announcing some great news.

Diana chewed on her lower lip slowly as she found her way out, dragging Tricia out with her and closed the door quietly behind them.

“Hey babe…when did you two become so intimate all over again?,like… wasn’t it yesterday that you two hated the sight of each other,I didn’t think you guys would make up so easily”Tricia said looking at Diana when they are settled in the kitchen.

“Do you care for tea or coffee?”Diana asked raising the tea container and coffee as well for her to see.

“Idiot!… you know what I like and don’t try to snub my question”

“I don’t see the use of this coffee in this kitchen,no one seems to pick interest in it,why did David buy it in the first place,he doesn’t even like it”Diana hummed practically avoiding Tricia’s words.

“Diana!!”Tricia rushed to block her by standing in front of her with a serious look.

Her efforts to hold back her laughter failed,she bursted into a loud laugh which she’s sure has awakened her mother at Diana’s action which is k-ssing her quickly on the l-ips”she devil”

“You need to see your face when you’re putting on a serious face”Diana teased and joined her in laughing.

“No…am really serious,I think am missing something here”she went back to her seat and splayed her hands on her laps.

“You are missing alot honey,but don’t worry I will give you the full gist when we have this house to ourselves alone”Diana replied pouring a warm water into a cup for tea.

Maggie’s head popped into the kitchen before she opened the door fully and entered.

Their heads turned to look at her.
“Awwwn,so this is where that aroma is coming from!”Maggie said moving closer to look at the tea that Diana is making.

“Good morning Mom”they chorused.

“Wonderful morning my babies!.. I hope you ladies dreamt about your men?”She said hugging Diana,then turned to repeat the action with Tricia.

“Wahala for who no get man!”Tricia mused.

“No baby,you have a man,you just don’t know yet”Maggie said sending her a radiant smile.

Diana pretended to be busy with her tea making,as she laughed silently.

“Where’s my son?”Maggie asked no one in particular.

“Bathroom”Diana replied bluntly as she handed them each a cup of tea.
She carried two cups outside,they followed her .

They all settled on the dinning and waited for David to join them.

“Diana?”Maggie called.

“Yes Mom”Diana answered and dashed into the kitchen to get bread.

Maggie waited patiently for her to get settled again before talking.

“I had a dream”she began at length”a very bad dream,and it’s about you Diana,in that dream you were injured…like… someone shot you,I think you need to be careful,very careful about your movements, though hærd to say but I think you …

David too should allow the police do their job,I don’t want anyone of you to get hurt because of the company’s present condition,the person behind it thinks the best way to go about it is getting rid of you and David since his secret has been revealed”

“Well… that’s…”

“It’s just a dream!”Tricia cutted Diana off clenching her teeth.

“I think we need to pray for God’s divine intervention”Maggie continued ignoring Tricia.

“And most importantly,we need to thread with care”David came in,he sat down and looked at his mother.

“I was asking about you”Maggie told him.

“I was using the bathroom,good morning”he replied lifting his tea cup to his l-ips.

“Hope you had a good night rest?”

“Yes Mom,you?”

“Yep!”

“Here’s bread”Diana handed him bread.

“Thanks”

David’s phone ringed, from upstairs.

“I will go take that”he said excusing himself.

“I pray it’s not another bad news”Tricia sighed.

Diana got busy with taking her breakfast,not ready to think about the possibility of her friend’s words.

“God knows the best”Maggie managed and tried taking a bite of bread.

“She’s awake?”David asked Dr Fred over the phone, he’s the caller.

“Yes,and she’s fine,you can come and see her now”he replied.

“Okay, I will be on my way”he cutted the line and wore his clothes,he picked his keys and ran downstairs.

“Am off to the hospital”he announced to them .

“Hope she’s fine”Maggie asked first.

“Fred assured me but I need to confirm that”he replied.

“Drive carefully”Diana said with the coolest voice she couldn’t remember using before.

“I will,can you guys do me a favor?”

“What?”Tricia questioned.

“Stay here and stay indoor under the protection of the police officers outside, please”

“Huh?..what about you?”Maggie asked standing up.

“I will be fine Mom”he replied giving her a peck on each of her cheeks.

“You need to go with the police too”Diana countered worriedly.

David crossed over to her side and hugged her from behind”I promise you that I will be fine,for you”he whispered to her ear as though he’s telling her a deep secret that others aren’t meant to hear.

Diana sighed hiding her hands between her laps under the table so they wouldn’t notice her shaking hands and nodded.

“That’s my baby!”He said k-ssing her ear and moving towards the door.

“David!”Tricia shouted sending him a killing look”you haven’t completed the ritual”

“Oh …am so sorry”he went to her and k-ssed her cheeks”am I good to go?”he asked smiling.

“Very”Tricia nodded grinning sheepishly.

“Baby,come and s-ck br-ast”Maggie teased her daughter when David left them alone.

“They aren’t firm anymore, I can’t s-ck fallen br-ast”Tricia said childishly.

She and her mother laughed,then looked at Diana who doesn’t seem to be with them anymore,she was staring at her tea cup, sadness written all over her face.

Maggie touched her lightly on the shoulder,she lifted her gaze slowly to look at the older woman.

“Diana darling, he’s going to be fine”Maggie tried to be strong,for her daughter,for her son,for herself,for Diana ….for her family.

“I know, I think I have headache,I will go upstairs”Diana said and stood up to leave.

“I think I have headache too,let’s stay upstairs together”Tricia said following Diana.

“So you will let me be alone?.. I think mine is heartache,let’s stay upstairs together”Maggie joined them.

Diana couldn’t help laughing as they all ran upstairs leaving the dinning table to take care of itself,she will probably come down to see to it later.
