✍️ CHAPTER TITLE ✍️: GOOD FOR A START!

“She happens to be a popular model that they expected to match with you,” Caleb briefed before looking out through the contracts.

“I still want to know what your job is Caleb. All those contract can be cancelled without me having to intervene in anything,” Damien reacted tiredly.

“I wasn’t born to serve you,” Caleb scoffed then reshoots his eyes like a lady will…

“Even if I wanted to shot with their company, bringing Ciara for me to model with has ruined everything. Stewart has his way of doing things for his selfish reasons,” Damien fastly discussed.

“He only wants what is best for his company. You could have done same if you are to be of the shoe,” Caleb replied.

“I don’t go around in search for some unnecessary things.” He blurted out coldly.

“So what do you want now? I’m wordless,” Caleb surrendered.

Arguing with Damien in the first instance was just an aimless trial, as he would never ever change what he has in his mind.

“Send them different letters of rejection every time in a large file. They must learn not to act selfish everytime,” He finally replied after a minute of being quiet.

Caleb spared him a glance to examine his face. It’s cold presently like he used to keep his straight face before Annabel came.

“What have you planned for Annabel?” Caleb asked even when the question wasn’t understandable to Damien.

“What was that supposed to mean?” Damien questioned in a confused state of mind. Plans for Annabel? What for?

“She can’t stay in the mansion all through her life,” Caleb answered. Even after what he has said, Damien still looked at him like… he never said a thing.

Caleb understood Damien’s look and immediately said.

“I’m talking about her next phase in life. I know she spent a lot from her life in coma, and that was unfortunate for her and everybody,” he paused for a moment to check if they’ve gotten to the office environment yet but they haven’t. Not even closer to being there yet.

“Maybe if such a thing didn’t happen, her journey wouldn’t have been paused. Now she’s back and healthy, ain’t you supposed to plan her life, with her telling how she wants it,” He completed.

Damien on the other hand tried reasoning what Caleb just proffered to him. Truthfully he has only kept the happiness of having his sister back in his heart, but he never thought about a life that she should live for herself.

“What made you think in that way ?” His expression was normal.

“Her age warrants me thinking in such way. It’s normally that she acts childish because she was barely fifteen when what happened did happen.”

“She might find it difficult to embrace adulthood quickly, but making plans to help her adjust is the best begining that I think it’s best for her,” he explained in excess and his explanation got Damien imitated.

Caleb is a good friend that everyone deserves in their life and needs to keep. Even though he doesn’t have a family of his own or a sibling to refers to as his blood.

He never failed to take concern in any situation that concerns Annabel’s life. Was it like a dream? When Damien’s father met him begging for what what to eat years ago.

Mr. Stewart instead of offering the little boy money or food to eat decided to ask about his parents instead.

How a cute little boy beg for what to eat by the side of the road without a guardian to guide him from danger.

After hearing about his story, he felt enough pity needed for Caleb and decided to take him in.

Maybe a day will come that his family will seek for him and then he will return him back to them.

But, was it not who’s alive that would ask about their little prince?

Caleb was trained up as a Stewart’s son. No outsider would get to discriminate about his whereabouts beause he breeds and rules amidst Stewart’s.

Damien and Caled spent almost their childhood together. Annabel came and joined them. She specifically fulfilled their happiness of having a sister.

Everyone was dwelling in happiness and satisfied state of mind until Mrs. Stewart brought misfortune into the house by bringing in Crystal, who ruined everything.

“Such idea never crossed my mind,” Damien confirmed after reviving himself back from thoughts.

“I think of it each time I see Annabel in the house. She should know what she wants for herself. I will suggest her returning back to school,” Caleb replied.

“I will do something about it.”

“But if something needs to be done, we should also remember that Crystal is out there and I don’t trust her,” Damien reprimanded.

Caleb nodded his head and then swathed out a satisfied breath.

Okay! This isn’t hard to do like he thought it would. Damien must be in one of his best mood today.

Although there was truth and facts encircled around what he says. Speaking about Crystal, is she still alive?

How could no one has heard of her for the past five years? In the first two years after the incident, she had sent different horrible letters to Damien, but just in the third year when Damien took it upon himself to end her, she suddenly went out of sight.

Brown came to the company in disguise, with a devilish movement which makes Damien suspicious, if Crystal sent him over to his misfortune.

Five years already that they’ve been in search for Crystal. Maybe Caleb doesn’t take it upon himself to find Crystal, but Damien never missed preplanning her downfall, even when he hasn’t found her.

But the frequent question is that, where’s Crystal? She should come outside to explain what happened five years ago.

*

There in the dark room that could barely allow brightness into it, was some scattered arrangements on the ground, especially the table that looks ruined with alcohol.

Everywhere stink, and the atmosphere in the room can kill a little creature that doesn’t know about the poisonous smell of the room before entering.

She sat down by a corner in the room. Her cloth all shattered with her messy hair touching her knee. She puffed the smoke into the air lazily, polluting the already polluted atmosphere.

How did her life get to this extent? Three years already that she made herself available for the room to devour her flesh.

What she aimed at getting touched her hand with stain, and all the game she has played all this year’s ended up falling back at her. She never won and doesn’t think she ever will.

“Those br*ts!” She gritted her teeth together then yelled. Taking enough portion of the smoke from the cigarette and then releasing it to the air.

‘It’s time to stop resting,’ she told her instinct that failed to let her mind rest on a plan.

After staying in here and watching how to ruin everything from a far without him noticing about her plans. Over the years she has gotten enough reports from her spy, who always tell her about what is happening in the country.

What Damien doesn’t know was her presence missing in the country. He must have saved some smile of victory on his lips.

He deserves some happiness till the next time she would visit him. After all, after a long time and several years, Annabel is back.

Hurting a single hair on her isn’t too much to welcome the colorado’s life and for surviving the death.

“I want it coloured in vanilla,” Annabel protested to Vera.

“Strawberries always have the great taste anyone will ever wanted. It calm the nerve and also the stress,” Vera answered and jokingly winked at her while revealing her cute smile.

Seeing the little gesture that she did, Annabel stared admirably at her without bothering to take her eyes away or bothered about getting noticed by Vera.

‘Why is he so adorable?’ she asked internally without an answer.

“Do you want me to add another portion of cream to the salad?” Vera asked as she mixed the salad together.

“No. It’s fine,” Annabel blinked her eyes away.

As Vera doesn’t know that her eyes has been on her, she nodded her head carefully and then fetched enough portion for Annabel.

“You should leave to the dinning while I bring the salad right behind you.” She reported while taking the remaining salad to the refrigerator.

Annabel smiled sweetly at her before saying.

“I want don’t want to stay at the dinning. I prefer my room to stay alone than the dinning,” she declined.

“Oh! No problem, I will still bring the food for you,” Vera insisted like a perfect gentleman.

What Vera failed to notice was how Annabel stared at her, and how often she take notes of every, of her reaction.

*

“You both got back late, and Damien, why are you in a different outwear?” Annabel coed as she hugged her brother tight.

“He saw it on the road and decided to put it on,” Caleb answered sarcastically and then walked to have a sit.

Damien released a smirk from the corner of his mouth as he rubbed Annabel’s back gently with the discussion that he has with Caleb in the morning crossing his mind again.

“I wasn’t talking to you!” Annabel shrieked and then engaged in a pillow fight with Caleb who was laughing hysterically.

Damien left the both of them and walked up to the dining instead.

A worker walked past him and respectfully bowed his head, and then again Vera came into view while climbing down the stairs in her casual attire.

“Good evening, master Damien,” she greeted calmly. Staring at his long face that wasn’t available for her to look up to since morning.

“Hey Disguise,” Damien answered simply as he would on other days.

Even only his voice that Vera heard made her happy already, not to mention the happiness of him not being harsh tonight and for the past three days.

“Don’t worry. I will do it,” he stopped her when she was about dishing his food out for him.

“Just get my coffee for me,” Damien ordered.

After that, Vera left and without another minute passing, Damien fetched enough food for himself and started feeding quietly on it without bothering about Caleb and Annabel who hasn’t stopped chasing each other around the sitting room, with Annabel scattering the throwing pillows everywhere.

Very soon he needs to discuss an important issue with Annabel.

*

“I want to learn house choice and cooking from Disguise. I’m not ready to study,” she replied after Damien finished explaining everything to her.

Damien looked at Caleb who as usual doesn’t want to intervene for some mercy, but as expected, he didn’t take his eyes away from the laptop.

It has become a duty to stick with his laptop every night.

“Why cooking? Studying is better,” Caleb chimed in when all hope was almost lost on him.

Annabel turned around where she stood to face Caleb who has taken his eyes away already like he didn’t speak in the first instance.

“Because I want to know how to bake and all that I’ve seen Disguise preparing. I can learn those within a month but it needs several years for me to study,” she defended herself.

“That is not a priority,” Caleb shrugged his shoulder at her.

“Not a priority but it’s what I want. I’m not ready to study,” Annabel protested.

Caleb spared Damien that was listening to them a glance and shrugged his shoulder restlessly. If Damien continues staring into space, then he might end up saying nothing.

“You cannot always have your way, Annabel. I will let you stay in the mansion for a few months till I am sure about your safety,” he suddenly started speaking.

“Once it’s confirmed that Crystal’s chapter isn’t a problem for your safety, you will resume back to school,” he instructed without missing a word.

“Best brother ever,” Annabel rejoiced and scurried closer to him on the bed. Throwing her slender hands around his neck while hugging him tightly. Her sweet brother.

“You are so sweet, unlike Caleb that is always prepared to feed on my intestines,” Annabel pokes fun at while teasing Caleb with her tongue.

*

Another expected daylight in her environment.

Lazily, she crawled down from her bed, grabbing a scarf from the hanger, and circling it around her head and neck, she went out of the room without bothering about what her sleepy state was telling her.

Several greetings from her maids that she came across while climbing down the stairs. All their greetings don’t matter to her, so she didn’t bother answering.

They must have covered their noses with their palms as she passed them by. Her body stinks and she knows.

The last time any of them sighted her room was years ago. She never bothered about anything in the room. Even the bottle of alcohol that she has taken in the last year was forced to roll around in her room till present.

If they didn’t notice the pale look on her face as they won’t dare share eye contact with her, none of them with their eyes set on her back will fail to see her skinny legs.

“Where’s he?” She asked the old man when she got to the outside part of the mansion.

“He already left, but told me to give you this,” the old man’s hand which shook as he pointed the little piece of paper out to her reported.

“Do you have a sense for your work? I told you not to let him leave,” she yelled at him in her husky voice.

The man trembled in fright but didn’t take a step away from her. Instead, he stretched his hand forward for her to pick the paper lying on his palm.

She rolled her eyes irritatedly before picking up the letter.

Opening it without wasting a minute as she fastly read the content within herself.

‘This is good for a start!’ she let out an evil smirk.
