RETURN OF Th£ DEVIL’S SON👿
Author: Jasm!ne Josef
Lucian woke up !n th£ middle of th£ night, covered !n sweat and ©vt of breath. h¡s h£art was b**t!ng wildly |ns!de h¡s ch£st and h¡s eyes were filled with tears. h£ had th£ same nightmare h£ had every night, wh£re h¡s broth£r killed h¡m over and over aga!n. It never ended, th£ pa!n and th£ suffer!ng, even after h£ woke up.
Lucian would feel as if h¡s wh0l£ b©dy was burn!ng and s1©wly h£ would be unable to breath£ because of th£ pa!n. [email protected]||!ng from h¡s b£d h£ would crawl on th£ floor struggl!ng to get some air but h£ h¡s throat would t!ghten as if h£ was be!ng choked. half th£ night h£ would spend !n an unbearable pa!n and pray for th£ morn!ng to come soon.
Wh£n th£ morn!ng came h£ would wake up and f!nd h¡mself still [email protected]!ng on th£ cold floor. h¡s wh0l£ b©dy would ach£ and h£ would feel dra!ned of energy. It would take h¡m a while to get up and prepare to go to work.
Today as h£ [email protected] on th£ floor wait!ng for h¡s b©dy to recover h£ remembered Nora’s words. $h£ had said that h£ had to much power, which h£ did notice th£ last few days. Someth!ng ab©vt h¡m was different s!nce h£ came ©vt of that well. h£ was capable of do!ng th!ngs h£ couldn’t before. That h£ realized one night wh£n h£ woke up from h¡s nightmare feel!ng as if h£ was be!ng choked. h£ had wi$h£d to go ©vtside to get some air and suddenly by some unknown force h£ found h¡mself ©vtside. How that was possible h£ still couldn’t compreh£nd, but h£ did enjoy h¡s new power. Or should h£ say powers? Because th£re were oth£r th!ngs h£ discovered h£ could do, such as disguis!ng h¡mself as someone else or mak!ng h¡mself !nvisible. h£ could even manipulate people, only by look!ng !nto th£ir eyes.
Maybe h£ was th£ Devil’s son after all.
As h£ [email protected] on th£ floor th!nk!ng h£ h£ard angry sounds com!ng from ©vtside h¡s room. Soon load footsteps followed and th£ door to h¡s room flew open and hit th£ wall with a crush!ng sound. Th£re at th£ door stood an angry John.
“Who are you?” h£ asked accus!ngly.
Lucian was confused as h£ stood up and looked at John.
“Who are you?!” John repeated angrily. “And don’t lie to me th¡s time.”
Lucians gaze went to th£ paper !n Johns [email protected] and h£ immediately realized that John had found one of th£ sketch£s that were made of h¡m wh£n h¡s broth£r was try!ng to f!nd h¡m.
“Th¡s…” John said hold!ng th£ paper up. “Th¡s is you. Why was th£ crown pr!nce look!ng for you?”
Lucian didn’t need to answer that. h£ knew that John had already figured it ©vt.
“I should have known…with your long hair and th£ way you carry yourself. You are a royalty. Th£ youngest pr!nce of Decresh. I knew that I had h£ard your name somewh£re, my son must have told me once or twice.” John cont!nued h¡s eyes wide with realization.
h¡s family had gath£red beh!nd h¡m and th£y stared at Lucian with a look of betrayal.
“j√$t leave!” Lucian could h£ar th£ disappo!ntment !n Johns voice.
h£ could understand that th£y were hurt and feel!ng betrayed s!nce th£y had welcomed h¡m and treated h¡m like a family. Maybe now was th£ time to leave anyway.
“Fath£r h£ has nowh£re to go.” Anna spoked as h£ took a step to leave.
“That’s none of our bus!ness.” John said coldly.
“But h£ is a witch and you always say to h£lp fellow witch£s.” Anna argued.
“We don’t know for sure that h£ is a witch. Nora?”
“Yes fath£r h£ is.” Nora spoke. “But…” $h£ h£sitated.
“h£ is th£ one rum©r£d to be th£ devil’s son.”
Lucian sigh£d. Those rumors never left h¡m alone. “I’ll j√$t leave.” h£ said. “Thank you for your hospitality.”
But suddenly Elle ran to h¡m and hugged h¡s leg. “Please don’t leave. Fath£r, please don’t let h¡m leave.” $h£ had tears !n h£r eyes.
Lucian ¢rov¢h£d d©wΠ to h£r level and wiped away a few tears that fell d©wΠ h£r ch£ek. “I have to. But I will be [email protected]¢k some day and visit you.” h£ said clapp!ng h£r h£ad, th£n h£ stood up and looked at th£ rest of th£m.
“I am very thankful for your h£lp and I had no !ntention of hurt!ng you. I apologize if I caused you any harm. I’ll take my leave.”
Johns expression didn’t change but th£ rest looked regretful as h£ made h¡s way ©vt. Strangely h£ was regretful h¡mself. h£ had really enjoyed stay!ng h£re, liv!ng a simple normal life with John and h¡s family, but noth!ng good or bad lasted forever.
j√$t as h£ was ab©vt th£ exit th£ front door a man appeared !n front of h¡m. Th£ man who was almost as tall as h¡m was wear!ng a military attire, th£ type that only th£ royal army of Decresh wear. Th¡s must be Johns son Julian, Lucian thought.
Julian froze !n place, h¡s eyes widen!ng !n shock as h£ noticed Lucian. !n h¡s frozen state h£ dropped h¡s h£lmet on th£ floor and opened h¡s m©vth to say someth!ng, but noth!ng came ©vt.
Great! Now Lucian had to deal with h¡m as well. Maybe h£ should j√$t snap h¡s h£ad off. A perfect way to repay h¡s family’s k!ndness, h£ thought sarcastically.
“Yo…your Highness. You…you are alive.” Julian stuttered !n disbelief.
Before Lucian could th!nk of anyth!ng to say, Julians family came rush!ng.
Julian stood like a statue, h¡s gaze still fixated on Lucian while h¡s family hugged !n turn. Lucian j√$t wanted to leave quickly but th£ wh0l£ family had crowded th£ exit while be!ng excited ab©vt Julians return.
“Fath£r?” Julian said f!nally while nodd!ng toward Lucian question!ngly.
“Oh yes. h£ is leav!ng.” John said.
“Leav!ng? Fath£r do you know who h£ is?” Julian asked.
“Yes, that’s why h£ is leav!ng.”
John raised h¡s eyebrows !n surprise. Julian walked past h¡s fath£r and up to Lucian. “Your highness…is it really you?” h£ scanned Lucian ¢ar£fvlly “I thought you died.”
Lucian detected sadness and relief !n h¡s voice. It confused h¡m, but h£ didn’t th!nk much ab©vt it. h£ was leav!ng anyway.
“Goodbye.” h£ said and aimed for th£ front door but Julian blocked h¡s way.
“Your Highness? Wh£re are you go!ng? It’s not safe ©vtside. Please come !n and stay.”
“j√$t let h¡m leave.” John spoke.
Julian ignored h¡s fath£r. “Please Your Highness.”
“Yes. Why don’t we eat th£n you can decide who will leave and stay.” Charlotte suggested.” I th!nk Julian is tired and hungry.”
Julian nodded. “Thank you grandma. Your highness please.” Julian gestured toward th£ liv!ng room. Elle looked at h¡m with hopeful eyes.
Lucian followed Julian |ns!de while wonder!ng why h£ agreed to th¡s. h£ should have j√$t left. Maybe deep d©wΠ h£ still wanted to stay h£re. While Julian looked happy that Lucian had agreed to stay for lunch, John was still unhappy and sat with h¡s arms crossed over h¡s ch£st.
Julian was curious ab©vt how Lucian had come to live and ended up h£re and Anna was happy to expla!n th£ wh0l£ situation. Julian listened ¢ar£fvlly th£n turned to h¡s fath£r.
“Fath£r? Wh£re you ab©vt to throw h¡m ©vt because h£ didn’t tell you th£ truth? What was h£ supposed to say? I am a pr!nce? Would you have believed h¡m?”
John sigh£d. “It’s not only that. It’s dangerous for our family to keep h¡m h£re. If th¡s goes ©vt we are all dead.”
Lucian understood that John was only try!ng to protect h¡s family.
“No one will know.” Julian said.
“Someone might already know.”
Lucian didn’t like that th¡s family were fight!ng because of h¡m. “I’ll j√$t leave.” h£ said stand!ng up.
“Pr!nce Pierre is soon gett!ng crowned. You know h£ doesn’t ¢ar£ ab©vt th£ wellbe!ng of th¡s k!ngdom. h£ is already plann!ng war. h£ wants to overthrow th£ k!ng of Gatrish and take over h¡s k!ngdom. Probably because h£ h£lped you. You know Gatrish is a powerful k!ngdom. It won’t be easy w!nn!ng over th£m. Many people will die for noth!ng.”
“Why are you tell!ng me th¡s?” Lucian asked.
“Pierre wants to raise th£ taxes for th£ poor people and expand th£ slave trade.” Julian cont!nued.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Don’t you want th£ crown?” h£ asked.
“What makes you th!nk I would be any different than Pierre?”
“Because you are a witch and witch£s don’t damage, th£y restore.” Jula!n expla!ned.
Lucian was gett!ng annoyed. “Look, I am not a witch and I have no desire to become k!ng.”
Now it was Julians turn to get annoyed. “What ab©vt all th£ people who died for you. Died to protect you, all your men. Did th£y die !n va!n?”
“What is go!ng on h£re?” [email protected] asked wh£n $h£ came !nto th£ room.
“Many people will suffer if you don’t take th£ crown. Don’t tell me you don’t ¢ar£. Fath£r say someth!ng!” Julian required.
John seemed to th!nk deeply. “Why don’t you th!nk ab©vt it before say!ng no?” John suggested.
What was h£ supposed to th!nk ab©vt. Go!ng [email protected]¢k to th£ prison h£ grew up !n. That place would br!ng noth!ng but bad memories. Still a part of h¡m wanted to listen to Julian, to go [email protected]¢k home and take th£ throne. h£ felt obligated to do so for th£ people who died protect!ng h¡m. For those who stood by h¡s side no matter what, like L!ncoln.
Lucian thought ab©vt th£ fact that h£ would never see L!ncoln aga!n, never h£ar h¡s scold!ngs or h¡s advice. h£ would never see th£ rest of h¡s men aga!n, while those who betrayed h¡m, those who betrayed th£ir own comrades were probably still alive. Th!nk!ng ab©vt it made h¡s blood boil. Yes, h£ needed to go [email protected]¢k and forget ab©vt hav!ng a normal peaceful life, because h£ wouldn’t get peace until h£ destroyed those who destroyed h¡m.
