HATRED ON A GIRL CHILD ?

EPISODE 17

Ben was caught unawares when he saw me. He didn’t recognize my compound because there were grown-up weeds in front of it.

Tears welled up my eyes and flowed in torrents down to my face.

He saw the tears streaming and immediately ran into his car and drove out.

I still love Ben with my wh0le heart. He was my first love and he equally helped me during our days in the University –resenting him was truly difficult.

“Why are you crying and why did he leave without saying a word?” My daughter queried me as though she suspected that something must have gone wrong.

“No! nothing, don’t worry” I replied.

“I thought I’d lost you” I added as I k-ssed her on her left cheek.

Victory was wreathed in smiles and promised to narrate everything that happened.

When we went in,side, I gave her the remaining food Edith brought to eat. After she finished eating, she told me every bit of what transpired.

She told me that the abductors took them somewhere and she was rejected while others were accepted.

“They dropped me in the middle of a tarred road and that man who brought me here stopped as I was sitting at one corner of the road and carried me to his house” Victory verbalized.

My eyes were on stalks as I kept listening to what she was saying.

“When I got to his house, his wife’s countenance made my blood run cold: she did not even respond to my greetings” Victory uttered.

I raised my eyebrows and was impressed at how my two-year-old child was narrating what had happened to her.

“How did the man know that this is your village?” I asked her.

“I told him the name of our village and he said that he had been to this territory before” Victory replied like a dog with two tails.

“You will tell me the remaining part of the story later but for now, you’ve to rest” I muttered and smirked.

“Okay mum” she replied and lay down.

I knelt instantly and started thanking God for bringing my beloved daughter back to me.

I also thanked him for giving me such a brilliant daughter.

After praying, I lay down with her and my happiness was restored.

The next day, Victory’s headmaster and some of her teachers visited. They were happy as a jaybird.

She shared the same story with them and they were amazed.

The headmaster was wowed at how a two years old child can narrate stories in such a way. Even her teachers were all struck dumbed.

The headmaster was also a bit sad because of those innocent children that were butchered and he said that they had met with their parents.

They gave Victory a huge amount of money to buy drugs and other things and they left.

Three years later, my daughter was five years old then.

She participated in a quiz competition for kids held by the government and won a scholarsh¡p to finish primary and secondary school education without paying a dime.

She was also given a token of a hundred thousand nairas.

I was jumbled when I heard this and then I knew that my daughter will wipe away my sorrows.

EPISODE 18

I was out of the blue when Mr Bola, Victory’s headmaster and Victory drove into my compound with their faces filled with great smiles and disclosed that my daughter had won a quiz competition.

“Good evening Ma’am, your daughter just won a quiz competition,” Mr Bola said and smile brightly

” she also won a scholarsh¡p to study for free in our school throughout her primary and secondary school education and a token of one hundred thousand naira” He added positively.

I was cloud nine listening to what the headmaster was saying.

“The scholarsh¡p and the token we gave her served as an award for her brilliance” Mr Bola uttered and chuckled profusely.

My heart staggered instantly as tears of joy started flowing down my visage like a river.

“Mummy stop crying” my daughter consoled me with a face looking as though she was dismal.

“Ma’am you should be happy,” the headmaster said.

I cleaned up the tears on my face with the back of my hands and then hugged victory tightly because she indeed made me proud.

Mr Bola was clapping with his countenance chock-full of smiles.

I thanked him endlessly for giving my daughter such an opportunity to participate in a quiz competition.

He was elated and told me not to worry before he drove out.

“Mummy you must cook my favourite today o! ” Victory muttered immediately the headmaster left.

“You’re now the madam of the house, your wishes I would always do,” I said as we burst into laughter.

I had enough foodstuffs and I went to our thatched kitchen and started cooking while she went in,side the house.

I pleaded with her to rest because she was stressed out throughout that day.

She obeyed me and lay down waiting for the food to finish cooking.

When the food was done cooking, I served her and she started eating as though she hadn’t eaten for a long time.

I watched her closely as she was holding the lump of fufu. She liked okro soup and it was her favourite.

After she had finished eating, she told me that she answered all the questions that were thrown at her.

“My fellow contestants were stunned with their mouths all opened when I was answering all the questions correctly” My daughter uttered.

“Some teachers were infuriated and they wanted to set in partiality but the headmaster noticed and cut them off” she added.

“Who is really this girl?” I asked myself ” when did she learn all these words?” I asked myself again.

“I am so proud of you, continue to be a good and God-fearing girl okay? I love you” I spoke when I k-ssed her on her forehead.

“I promise to always obey you mum, you’re the best,” she said enthusiastically.

My heart was filled with joy.

” Indeed life is just a bowl of cherries,” I said in my mind smirking.

The next day, I heard that Ben was cheesed off when he heard that my daughter won a competition.

He flógged his son which caused a fight between him and his wife.
