CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: APPEARANCE OF THE WITCH
Listening to his footsteps fade away I hug my knee to myself, I can’t believe where I have landed, I have no regrets but I still doubt things will work out the way I expected them to.
Am getting tired of fighting alone, things are starting to be difficult and each day I keep feeling lonely
” Am still here “Hearing Muchen’s voice I realized he just shut the door but never step out “Are you okay?”
I didn’t bother to raise my head ” am not ” mumbling, I hug myself tighter ” I just feel like everything, every single thing I have worked hard for will soon come to an end ”
” Jing ”
” Milord, I have killed someone and…..” He cut me off, making me lift my head to stare at him bending right next to me
” So what if you have killed?” He has this confused expression on his face “What’s so wrong in ending someone’s life, and if you don’t like that person ”
” But?”
“Human life is so fragile and easy to kill ” he furrows his brows ” Are you sad because you’re also human?”
” What are you talking about?” Looking at his expression, I frown deeply “You are also human, why do you keep making sounds like you are far different from us?”
” I never said I wasn’t Jing ” He lean close and kiss my forehead ” You should relax, they are nothing wrong with killing people, just don’t let that weak part of your mind confuse you into thinking that you are wicked, you are just wiser and stronger ”
” Really?”
” Indeed ”
” Can you leave now?”
“No” he frowns ” I need you to spend the day with me in my quarters ”
” You must be joking, I already told you, I just had a miscarriage, I should be weak and sad”
” That’s precisely why I want you to come with me, I wish to take care of you ” I furrow my brows at him, I know he is aware that I was never pregnant, he knows fully well that I fake everything, every single thing but why is he so interested in making me feel like he suddenly like me
” Lord Muchen ” he look at me and I proceeded “Do you like me?” My words seem to have made him withdraw a little, no response tho ” I mean, if you keep asking me to spend my entire day with you, I will think you like me ”
” Jing ”
” Do you like me, yes or no ”
” Hmmm” he smiled ” I like you ” his answer came so easily, everyone will know he just agreed so that I can stop bothering him, he Just need me to stop asking that question, and just like my thoughts, he mumbled” now you have your answer, stop asking and just stick with me ”
” Am not convinced ”
He sounded offended “What?” I watch how he stands to his feet “You have to be joking ”
” I do not joke milord “Standing up, I look him straight in the eyes “You did mention that after whatever I have with the ghoul is done, you wish to see me naked in your chambers….why is that” my sounds might have made him angry
” Jing, are you not satisfied I am spending my days with you?” He furrows his brows “Do you wish for me to meet another?”
” No, that’s not what I meant ”
” Then stop with your need of finding reasons for everything I do ” I watch how offended he looks, maybe I shouldn’t have asked too much, but many things might be running through his head “Let’s go ” Before I could respond, he held my hand and drag me out of my chamber, my quarters and to his.
I know gossip will be swirling around the whole palace now, after the failed ball, xiang death, and the child’s loss, the king does look calm than I expected him to look.
Not even his child’s death affected him and with the continual talk of humans and then blood, he might just be like another creature, if he knows about ghouls, he should be aware of others.
Does that make him a ghoul too? He keeps taking blood because he wishes not to kill someone, my gaze fixes on his face and then, I shake my head, I highly doubt he is a ghoul, he won’t be something like that “Milord?” Mumbling, he stops in the hallway, he is having that heavy breathing again ” Are you okay?”
” It’s been so long ” he looked down at me with red eyes ” I might just end up killing you if I try anything funny ” With those predator’s eyes, I am convinced. He is not human.
Muchen let go of her hand and Avery his gaze, since I woke up, I haven’t drink to my satisfaction, just kept taking a little sip from her, and trust me, that is not enough, if I don’t get enough soon, I might go rampant.
” Milord ” she hold my hand ” you look pale, are you sure, you’re okay?”
” Am fine, just go to my chambers and rest ”
” Am worried ”
” You need not be “Frowning, I look at her, all I could smell and think of right now is blood ” I need you to go to my chambers and lock the door when you do ”
” You’re scaring me, why do your eyes keep changing colors…..is it a trick ”
Getting tired of her stupid questions, I frown ” I told you didn’t I, I need you to go into that chamber and wait for my return ”
” Where are you……” Glaring at her, I watch her shut up and walk towards my chamber, turning around I head to my garden, trying to calm my nerves ” I have the file on Queen Jing Milord ” Li-mu mumbles and I turn around looking at him before taking the file from his hands
” Was it difficult?”
” Not at all milord ” he replies ” but the details in there will shock you ”
” Shock me?”
” Yes milord ” he bowed his head ” I will suggest you don’t read of it in, maybe in the future ”
” Those words will only trigger my curiosity ” Looking at the files in my hands I exhale “Surely it’s not something horrible ”
Li-mu lifts his head and stares at me, I know that dead expression anywhere “Li-mu?”
” Excuse me milord ” he left and my gaze travel back to the file at hand, if li-mu didn’t want me to read about it now, how horrible will it be? I doubt her existence will be that much threat to me.
Dropping the file on a table, I look at my beautiful flowers ” I will read that later, I should learn to live in curiosity for a while “If it’s something that will make me wish for her death, I do not wish for that, killing her means killing me and now’s I want someone dead.
He or she must die!
Before I could think further, the smell that clouded my nose, made me frown, no human smell like this, not even vampires, Only witches. Turning around I stare at Queen Hua, this should be my third wife, I haven’t met her before, right?
” Milord?” She bows her head ” I wish an audience with you ” I have one rule.

Muchen look at her more closely ” I have no time for such talks ”
” Milord ”
” I am busy queen hua ”
” It’s concerning queen xiang death ” she mumble while bowing her head ” I believe it’s murder ”
” Everyone believed is murder” looking at her, I notice how she roll her eyes for awhile before lifting her head and showing me a calm and gentle face.
” Everyone think it’s someone that hated her but I believe a monster did this”
” A monster?”
” Yes milord ” she move closer, her gaze fully fixed on mine ” a very rare creature, what do they call them?” She pretend to be thinking before saying the rest ” a ghoul” I can see, she is trying her very best to hide the fact she’s not human.
” What’s that?” I asked ” forgive your king for being ignorant”
” You’re not milord ” she bow” not everyone one know of them, they eat human flesh ”
” And why do you think this ghoul of a thing, eat queen xiang?”
” Someone ordered it ” I frown, she must have done her research properly ” am sure someone in the palace is in touch with that creature, am sure it was all planned”
” Hmmm” looking at her, I shake my head then avert my gaze to my garden ” you shouldn’t involve yourself in this, if that’s the case ”
” Queen xiang was my only friend, I can not forsake her ” sadness is evident in her voice, refusing to look back, I noticed her footsteps move closer ” milord, she needs justice”
” Justice”
” Whoever did this to her” I turned around at that ” needs to die ” my Expression remain void, I notice how emotional she is getting ” if I could do it alone, I would have ”
” Am sure you are capable of doing it alone ” stepping close, the whole garden remain quiet, breeze move in slowly from the windows, the flowers make little noise while I approached her.
Place my hand under her jaw and make her look at me ” I know you can find the culprit, hua ” smiling I touch her cheek ” do that for me and I will reward you”
” Reward?” And just like that, the thought of justice left her mind, all she could think about right now is the reward.
” What is the greatest thing you desire?”
Her words were not what I expected ” a divorce milord, I wish to be free from you ” I didn’t drop my hands from her face, I just watch her while she withdraw” forgive me if I speak out of order ”
” You did not queen hua ” mumbling, her head is still bowed down ” it is what you desired and then I shall give it to you ”
” Milord” she sounded happy ” thank you so much milord, I will find the answers you seek ” and with that she left the garden, I look at the flowers and think carefully, if she knows it was a ghoul, it probably means xiang told her of the strange feeling she has been having but she didn’t do anything about it.
Could it be that hua wanted xiang to die ever since, from her voice, she sounded really sad but then when the reward was announced, she suddenly became happy and joyous.
I know for a fact that she is a witch, I know how they all smell, I have been with alot of them in my past life, am sure she is one but then why will a witch even marry the king? If she was after the tittle why leave now?
And if she really find the culprit, Jing will be involved, running my hands through my hair, I move towards the table, pick up the file and head to my chamber, many thoughts swirl in my head, all I can think of was how to leave this throne.
Even when I was asleep, am sure this human wanted to leave this shit of a throne ” milord ” Jing called the moment I step into my chamber, I look out the window and notice the sun going to rest ” I heard you haven’t eaten today ” I look at Jing, she isn’t smiling ” I asked the maid to provide this small meal for you ”
” Why?” Looking at her, I drop the file on the drawer, I notice her eyes followed it before meeting mine again ” did I say anything about food to you?” Am not starving, all I need right now is her blood, other food will just give me an upset stomach ” eat on your own ”
” Milord ” she frown ” remember, you were the one that asked for my company in your chamber, I never wanted this ”
” Hmmm” ignoring her, I pick up the file and head into the shower room, hide the file in a secret corner then decided to take a peaceful bath alone, no words, no maids, just me and the water.
I know fully well that am running out of time, if I do t take blood soon I will go berserk, and am sure everyone including the queen dowager will die. Many things have been in my head lately, queen Jing evil ways, her horrible character.
Which I adore but then hua had to come up, the councils, Norman on my neck, ju-li trying his hardest to take Jing from me and the state affairs, no food and water in the capital and villages.
I am not cut out to be the king ” I wish I can just step down ” and then the thought hit me, if I have a child, I can live a peaceful life outside the palace, the moment he turn sixteen, I will be gone ” I should just pregnant Jing, she should be strong enough to train him, I won’t even have to wait for sixteen years before running away, five years, and then i will be gone ”
Jing frown after he walk into the bathroom, sitting on the bed I just couldn’t understand him, he just keep acting different, so different that I just can’t think of why, he keep changing his character ” oh Lord, why do I have feelings for this bastard” I growl.
Edward will visit my quarters any moment from now and if he doesn’t find me, only God knows what he will do and since am here, I can’t even ask about what the queen dowager is doing, if she has forced the truth out of my physician mouth.
What do I do? I still can’t come up with a plan, Should I visit her quarters? Or kill the physician?
I can’t keep killing people, what do I do? Covering my face with my hand, I growl out of frustration ” when will I finally have peace, everything keeps getting worse, can’t I just win?”
” Jing ” dropping my hand, my face immediately hit up, Muchen is standing right there, towel wrap around his waist, chest bare and hair wet ” you look frustrated ”
” Huh” I couldn’t think properly, why is he trying to seduce me? Why is he half naked ” milord, please put on some cloth” he didn’t listen, instead he move closer and place his both hands at my sides, placing me in the middle
” I have an offer for you ”
” An offer?” I look at him, he look really serious right now, why is he this close?
” I need you to bear my child ” blinking, I look at him, he is not the kind that wish for a son ” I need an heir ”
” For what purpose ”
” To secure the throne” he look at me closely ” will I have some other motive to have a child?” He slowly kiss my lips but before he could do anything else, I stood up
” I wish to go to my quarters ”
” Jing?”
” I can not hide in your quarters forever, as your first wife, I have things to attend to ” he hold my hand and I look at him ” do you love me lord Muchen? ”
” Jing ”
” Do not think of having me to yourself until you feel as I feel for you ”
He frown ” you clearly told me, it’s only obsession you have for me!”
” Then get obsessed over me too ” I try to fight my feeling ” I don’t want this one sided affection forever” turning around, I walk away but his next word angered me.
” Maybe I should go to queen Mona then protect her myself ”
” Be true to yourself milord ” I mumble ” you lust after me, you want no one but me ” I watch his eyes darken as I said that, I had no idea when he move to my direction, so fast, I knew I just hit a nerve I shouldn’t have.
” You think you can read my mind now?” He growl, I didn’t flinch, just stood my ground
” Yes milord ” stepping closer, I frown ” don’t deny the fact ” I watch how his jaw clenched for few seconds, he breath out then step closer, the next sentence that came out of his mouth, scared me.
” Will you prefer I r-ape you?”
